planned for other embassies. if those were planned, why can't we reveal that to the american people? wouldn't that help your case? >> i believe it would have been four embassies. >> martha, imagine if president trump doesn't give the toward -- order to take him out and the embassies are under fire. he has to take that action. >> i think the debate going on is quite american and understandable in terms of people wanting to know what the intelligence was. it meet be helpful to the president's case. i think that's why the president in the last 48 hours has given more information. he was careful to say we believe it could have been four embassies that were taken out. my mind goes back to the clinton years and the assessment of the clinton years. i remember interviewing an fbi or overseas operative who told me a story when they had bin

laden in their sights. it was back and forth between the state department and the white house. they were working hard to get him within their scope literally and were given the order to pull out. these are decisions that only the president of the united states can make. when you are told, sir, we have a target of opportunity and a window to do this. do you want to take the shot or not? >> you have to take the kill shot, right, greg? >> i don't know, i am kind of a peaceful guy. >> yes, you are. >> i have a theory about the media freak out after this event. the "times" said there is no one president has used force less than donald trump since the carter era. he is the most anti-war leader in 4 decades. that explains the hysterical response in the media. they have to capitalize on it

we should always expect that our intelligence community is forthright. but the arguments have been both ways. until now the intelligent community was infall able, the mueller report? with iran they call into question and now the escalation is it's us that escalated it. >> that's an interesting point. there is a weird wrinkle you are seeing in this story. the iranians have accidentally shot down this ukraine airliner. here's what democrat congresswoman spire said blaming trump. >> if this is true this is another example of collateral damage from the actions that were taken in a provocative way by the president of the united states. >> but for the escalation in the actions taken by iran, there

would not be 176 people dead today. it emanates from the killing of soleimani. >> wow! >> martha, i can't explain that one. >> that's really reckless talk. this was a missile made by russians. it was sent into the sky by iranians by all of the intelligence. it's a huge strategy that 176 people are dead. i want to point out this happened in 1988 and it was our fault in that situation. khomeini mentioned that. right before all of this happened. there was a missiles that took down a civilian plane and we claimed responsibility in 1988. this is a tragic situation. to put the blame on president trump when it's an iranian missiles it's just in really bad taste. >> the story of the middle east is the story of collateral

damage. we have watched decades of innocent human suffering. iran behind a lot with their militias and what nay are doing in different countries. they turned that region into a big game of whack a mole. if you had a child bullied every day and finally punched the bully. it's your kid's fault for hurting him. no, if that kid did something after he got beaten up, that's on him. in the modern era of trump derangement people are saying the dumbest thing. it is an illness. >> that missile attack doesn't say anything about trump's presidency. it speaks to iran's incompetence. their anti-aircraft radar was on because it was during a missile

attack on us. they saw an aircraft they didn't have the identity for and they shot first. soleimani used to travel on huge planes surrounded by hundreds of individuals to protect himself. >> that's why our window of availability for him was so short. that collateral damage that's their process. that's not hours. >> yes. the united states goes out of its way to make sure civilians are not affected. terrorists hide in churches and mosques and schools. we do the best we can to not target civilians. it's the opposite of what iranians. >> sometimes tragic mistakes happen. you have to look at the situation this way: jesse we know that the administration was targeting several iranian officials. they didn't have success in hitting some of those officials. they got soleimani. but they didn't get the rest of them. we don't know the extent.
