50 years later, they will be in the super bowl once again. ainsley: right. pete: 50 years. to recognize that occasion, ainsley wore her 49ers dress. ainsley: did i not plan. this when i came on set that's exactly what pete set. welcome. pete: thanks for having me. ainsley: what's your prediction? pete: we were talking about, this patrick mahoney plays at another level. i am telling you th 49ers defense an the packers looking really good right now. steve: i heard amazing fact last night when i was watching the game. that is the cbs crew said, you know, 50 years ago when the kansas city chiefs were last in the super bowl, the super bowl was on cbs. and the fellow who did the play-by-play was jack buck. the legendary sportscaster. 50 years later on fox two weeks from yesterday and his son, joe buck will have the

play by play. ainsley: we are flying out next week. leave after the show on thursday. we will be live down there on friday, saturday and sunday. and then be covering of course on monday. pete: it's going to be great. ainsley: then iowa the election starts. pete: i will be your roving correspondent. all things super bowl whatever you need. ainsley: super bowl, iowa. then the state of the union address. the president will be giving in d.c. we will be covering that and then the next week is new hampshire. pete: that's right. ainsley: a lot going on. steve: they are playing for the super bowl of impeachment. what's happening next, officially the impeachment trial starts in the senate tomorrow at 1:00 in the afternoon. remember when the democrats got together and they came up with that organizing resolution, house resolution 660 which essentially set the ground rules? pete: yes. steve: and stacked the deck against the republicans. that is right now what mitch mcconnell is doing. they are doing organizing resolution to figure out

exactly how the impeachment trial will run in the senate. he is prone to think that the clinton model was a good one where each side had 24 hours to present their case. it would run over two weeks. however, then have you got people clamoring for witnesses in which case ted cruz said that thing could take months. pete: absolutely. that is the latest message of the left, of democrats saying i know we already had a trial in the house. i know he this had a a chance to call as many witnesses they wanted in the house. here is pushing for witnesses in the senate, also. >> in any trial, all relevant witnesses must be heard. any republican senator who says there should be no witnesses or even that witnesses should be negotiated is part of a cover-up. >> let's bring in the witnesses. let's put the truth before the american people. >> we don't know what witnesses will be allowed and even if wool be allowed witnesses. >> i also want to hear

witnesses and see the evidence. >> we believe a fair trial involves witnesses. >> let's call the witnesses. >> ainsley: rush, rush, rush you, rush it through the house and now they are trying to get these witnesses to witnesses before the senate. the senate has a responsibility to hold a trial if that's what they're going to do. steve: they are the jurors. ainsley: house impeached. the house has the opportunity to produce their case. it's not the senate's job to redo what is the house's sole responsibility. steve: yesterday, you heard on the sunday shows and we heard from that little montage bouquet of soundbites. pete: montage bouquet. ainsley: steve: unless they allow witnesses it will be a cover-up. but, to your point, back when the house wrote up their dream list of witnesses, where was john

bolton? where was mic mulvaney? pete: they had ever commence. steve: they knew if they asked for them and put them on their list, the administration would appeal because of the executive privilege. ainsley: executive privilege. if they strip the president of executive privilege that will affect presidents going forward they need to know that. pete: is that true argument the lawyers are going to make. you have to have private conversations with your advisors. if you force them to testify chilling affect across generations. steve: the democrats knew that. that's why they didn't push it. they wanted to speed it through. lindsey graham calling them out. watch. >> if we call one witness, we're going to call all the witnesses. there's not going to be a process where the democrats get their witnesses and the president gets shut out. when it comes to donald trump, nancy pelosi may pray for him privately but she has orchestrated the church of holy hell from the time trump has been sworn in it wiluntil now.

48 days to impeachment this president. he could not call any witnesses. he could not have a lawyer present during the intel whecommittee. a partisan job. what they are doing to the institution. steve: church of holy hell. one other thing, regarding the organizer resolution that mitch mcconnell is figuring out along with his team right now, apparently they are thinking about putting in a kill switch essentially what that would do is let the president's legal team essentially call for an immediate verdict or a dismissal if the senate trial devolves into a circus which if the house version was any indication, probably going to head toward a circus. ainsley: allow the trump team to dismiss the articles of impeachment. steve: mr. chief justice we call for immediate vote. pete: also going to be very different because you have justice roberts, is it also

john roberts? steve: it is john roberts. pete: so confused. he is asking questions so the senators won't have the same ability to grandstand in the senate the way they did there. ultimately the irony is so thick and rich for democrats who rigged an entire process in the house and now they are yelling about fairness and witnesses. makes me think of this town, we have broadway. if it's on broadway, it's got to have over 500 seats in the theater. that was mueller report. that's how it worked. off broadway is 100 to 500. that feels like the house trial. you know there is something called off, off broadway. even less than 100 seats in the theater. that's what this feels like. ainsley: did you see the president said thank you because the republican party has never been so unified. pete: unified. people -- this brief has to be filed today and that brief tomorrow. we have done this already. we know how this show end. steve: i think, speaking of the show. i think we have just discovered according to your metric, the u.s. senate is off, off broadway.

pete: pretty much. steve: it only seats 100 senators, just saying. pete: that's right. steve: speaking of someone who know yous how this work robert wray former independent counsel is going to join us one hour from right now. we have plenty of questions. ainsley? ainsley: in just a few hours, second amendment advocates will rally in virginia as lawmakers look to limit gun rights in the state. pete: some bills would ban assault rifles outright and shut down indoor shooting range. steve: griff jenkins is in richmond. security is on high alert. not allowing anything to fly over the grounds. griff: that's right. steve, ainsley and pete. good morning to you. look here and see this is outside virginia's state capitol where lobby day will happen. every year the virginia citizens defense league a pro-second amendment group comes out here, lobbies lawmakers before the legislature starts. this year the legislature is totally democrat controlled.

the senate, the house, and of course governor ralph northam. he has security because in his words incredible threats made rally take place here. gates open at 7:00. three people arrested last week with ties to a white supremacist group. but, when it comes to the laws that people are rallying against, senate hearing that would do three things. restore one handgun a month law. also do universal background checks and increase local authority over guns in public places. and we spoke with one of the house delegates, a republican glen davis yesterday. he is from the virginia beach area where you recall that horrific shooting that killed 12 past may. he says the opposition to these measures is bipartisan. listen. >> definitely bipartisan. i have had democrats come to me and say glen, i'm a democrat. but this is extremely important to me. this isn't a tax hike here or some other issue there.

this is an ability to protect your family and loved one. that's not a republican or democrat issue. griff: guys, they are expecting such large numbers because those three measures we mentioned are not where it's going to end. the house democrats have several other measures. one, in particular, you mentioned, pete, house bill 567 that would essentially outlaw private shooting ranges and we spoke to the colonial shooting academy owner peyton, she is very worried about it. listen. >> there is the one bill that is aiming to just put us out of business. we are the solution. we are not the issue here. and not sure why they are targeting indoor gun ranges in the state of virginia. we do so much good. we create responsible gun owners on a daily basis. you know, we would love to have northam come here, take some classes and show him what it's actually about. >> and it is beyond. citizens and police. shoot their guns [inaudible] on thomas jefferson's doorstep here. we will see what happens. it's peaceful. buff you can see the police, no risk. guys? steve: griff, thank you very much. we had a little problem with the audio via satellite. meanwhile, i was just looking at the "new york times." they have come out with their endorsement, president of the united states and something new. they are hedging their bets. they didn't pick one person. they picked two. pete: that's like i'm cheering for the super bowl both the 9ers and the chiefs. ainsley: they chose amy klobuchar and elizabeth warren. they said they are breaking from convention this year. steve: they said of elizabeth warren she has a serious approach to policy making and commitment to anticorruption legislation which the "new york times" says it has the potential bipartisan support. amy klobuchar is a wonderful democratic senator. bernie sanders too old and divisive and joe biden his main pitch is that he can

beat trump but he makes a lot of gaffes. he is too old. pass the torch. ainsley: elizabeth warren said i guess amy klobuchar and i are now both undefeated in elections and undefeated in the "new york times" endorsement. pete: i read the whole op-ed. it reads like someone who has no idea who to pick because the choices are so bad. here is a quote from the "new york times" op-ed. we are not veering away from the values we espouse. but we are rattled by the weakness the instiewtions thainstitutions totrusted undere values. i guess elizabeth warren is the radical model, amy klobuchar at about 5% in iowa. which she needs to win being from minnesota is the realist model. it doesn't look good. ainsley: elizabeth warren and bernie sanders could be called off the campaign trail if they have to be sitting in the senate during the trial. pete: and amy klobuchar. steve: high profile television event. i read somewhere somebody said it actually could be a good idea for the senators.

it's kind of a split decision. the "new york times" doing that it will be interesting to see if amy klobuchar, who, to your point is, very lowly rated right now in iowa if the "new york times" endorsement actually helps them. in other words, it would translate into is the "new york times" relevant? do people listen to the "new york times"? i was looking. since 2,000. they have made five endorsement in five elections only barack obama was elected. they picked al gore, john kerry, hillary rodham clinton, of course she won the popular vote as they write oftentimes. but, nonetheless, do people still listen to newspaper endorsements? let us know friends@foxnews.com. ainsley: no they listen to meghan markle's dad. he was speaking over the weekend. people were talking about that in my circle of friends. they were not talking about impeachment. steve: they are going to vote for the person he thinks to be president? pete: probably more than the "new york times," yeah. safe bet. ainsley: jillian has headlines for us. jillian: good monday mornings. let's go to this fox news alert now. two police officers are shot

and killed in a horrific standoff. honolulu officers tiffany enrique and calliki. the shooter set fire to his home after his landlord tried to he auto convict him. police believe he died in the fire which spread to other homes. police say he had mental health issues and previous run-in with one of the officers killed. two other women are still missing. also breaking overnight. several people killed in two separate bar shootings. a manhunt is underway in san antonio for the person who killed two people at a bar on the city's popular riverwalk. police believe it started as a fight inside the bar. in kansas city, a separate shooting leaves at least two people dead and 15 hurt. three of them critically. police say a gunman opened fire during a concert. he weighs killed by an armed security guard. we will keep you updated on those situations. in the meantime today the nation gathers to celebrate dr. martin luther king jr. >> i have a dream.

♪ pete: welcome back. the women's march gathering in washington, d.c. over the weekend taking on president trump for the fourth time since he took office. but what started as a nationwide movement as quickly dwindled over the years. with attendance dropping from as many as 5 million in 2017 to 747,000 in 2019. so far this year, the rallies in new york and d.c. were just a fraction of that. less than 10,000 in

washington, a few hundred in new york. meanwhile, the march for life in d.c. appears to be only growing. going from an estimated 50,000 in 2017 to as many as 300,000 in 2019. so what does this tale of two marches really say about the women's movement? here to react is aerial davison staff writer at the federalist. aerial, thanks so much for being here this morning. what does this -- these tale of numbers tell us about women in america today? >> well, what it tells us is that the march for life is severely under reported. we are approaching what will be the 50th anniversary of the march for life in the next coming years. and what is really remarkable about the women's march, i actually attended the women's march this past weekend. and what i found it's really not a march about women. it's an anti trump march that's marketed towards women. meanwhile, the march for life is actually a very prince telled approach, these women who end men and

many women who will be marching will be marching for the safety or preservation of life. that's hugely important. i think when it comes to examining these two marches what we shouldn't is that the media is not going to give the march for life nearly the coverage it deserves. declining attendance for the women's march frankly speaks to the declining anti trump movement among women. if your whole platform is hating trump, you have to have something more than that you have to have principle. pete: the headlines they try to write them about the women's march growing and relevant. of course it's anything but that you know the contrast to the march to life will be much different. there has been issues inside the top of the women's march as far as anti-semitism and problems there. you are saying that the key to the march to life is the pureness of the message. the principle of it. my church is sending a bus load of people there as well because they stand for the unborn. >> exactly. you will also notice that

around a quarter of the participants in the march for life are young people. college students, high schoolers. this is across all age groups. when i went to the women's march, what i found it was really motivated by anger. and it didn't really have -- there wasn't really a cohesive message. instead of addressing issues like sexual assault or domestic violence issues that actually pertain to women. the women's march this past weekend was really focused on hating trump. and it seemed very unproductive and it was alarming, actually. frankly alarming. pete: grabs on to any topic they want. it became about environmental justice, a grab bag of leftist causes as opposed to a celebration of life. what's your prediction that the pro-life -- the mexico pro-life march is this friday, the 24th, what's your prediction as far as numbers? >> i mean, i'm really excited to see, hopefully around 100,000, i believe. at least 10 times what the women's march in d.c. was. like you said, pete, they only had 10,000 people

steve: time for quick headlines on this monday morning. 27 people hurt in antigovernment protest in iraq overnight. security forces fired some tear gas as they threw stones at police and the protesters are demanding changes to iraq's political system. better public services and they want more jobs. meantime they are making a mess of that. and the country of iran now backtracking plans to share the flat data recorders, the black boxes from the downed ukrainian airliner. that's an about face. an official telling state tv they will try to analyze it

we ought to take cover. ainsley: joining us now with more is that daughter and ruby ridge survivor sarah weaver. great to see you. thanks for being on with us. >> good morning. thank you so much for having me. it's an honor. ainsley: thank you. i have watched part of this series and it's unbelievable. for folks who don't remember what happened to your family in 1992. tell them a summary of what happened that day. >> it was over an 11-day standoff, actually. where i ended up losing my little brother sam who was 14 to an altercation with the u.s. marshal service. he was shot and killed and then my mother the very next day was shot by a government sniper. ainsley: why were they investigating your dad? >> they wanted to recruit him to become an informant for them and he refused. ainsley: and so, as a result, they started shooting at him and your family? >> oh, there is so much to this story that led up to

that it's a whole lot to try and cover in a few short minutes. there is more that can be found for sure. i have written a couple books about it. it's something years and years and years to try to understand and recover from myself. ainsley: it sparked a big antigovernment movement. as a result, you live in anger for a long time until, what? >> well, about 10 years i suffered from post-traumatic stress. post par item disorder. i struggled with anger and of course sadness and grief and hit rock bottom one day and didn't know where to turn other than my little sunday school bible that i had been given when i was 7 years old. and i wasn't sure even where to turn then except for the one verse i had memorized for a piece of candy which was john 3:16.

ainsley: i was shocked when i was watching this last night. your mom was holding your sibling, a baby. and she is shot in the head and she collapses. how do you survive that? how do you move on from that i'm sure you had ptsd after that and seeing your mom on the ground. >> you know, i look back over that time being a 16-year-old girl and experiencing everything i went through and honestly, it's the grace of god that carried me at that time before i even knew he was carrying me. and it's been a long journey of healing with him. it's been a lot of work on myself with him. and i'm just -- i'm so grateful to be on the other side of it now and be able to share the story and the hopes that we can learn from the mistakes and we can move forward in a better way. ainsley: i'm so glad you found christ. god bless you. thank you for sharing your story. it's a wonderful three part series about your family. if you can watch it, watch it on fox nation scandalous.

national anthem. ainsley: i know. isn't that awesome? steve: it was terrific. the day after the big playoff games. now the super bowl is set. super bowl 54. 50 years since kansas city has played in a super bowl. that's why i want them to win. of course they are my team. the 49ers are a great team. who are you picking, jack? >> you know what? i want to see my old coach andy reeves win his first championship. you know, he had some rough ones there with the eagles. but, you know, it's going to be hard to beat the san francisco team. if i had to put money on the team it would definitely be on san francisco because their defense is just that dominant. you watch them. they are able to get pressure on the quarterback with only four downed linemen. that just changes the game for you defensively. you are able to play zone coverage on the back end. stop the run. so it will be a tough win. but i think those chief fans will be down here in droves, you know, taking over south florida. >> the chiefs are got an

amazing quarterback. >> they do. but you know what? you know the thing that's going to be different this week is like i said, when you only have to rush four linemen, you are going to be able to spy him a lot. they will be able to have a guy that's spying him the entire game because of their dominance upfront for the 49ers. i hope he does well it. will be exciting matchup either way but they have their hands full. >> going to be a test for sure. that super bowl you can catch it, of course, on fox and "fox & friends" will be there. the friday before and through the weekend. so don't miss that as well. ainsley: let's talk politics right now. do you want to start? pete: go ahead. ainsley: bloomberg was in tulsa, oklahoma he was honoring martin luther king. he says he has a plan that would help 1 million black americans become homeowners over 10 years while also boosting the number of black owned businesses. he pledged a 70 billion-dollar program to fight poverty in 100 disadvantaged neighborhoods. we wanted to get your take on that.

>> you know what? that's great. this country needs it. we do have a former slave population that's still hurting. let's not overlook the fact that african-americans in this country have been doing pretty well and getting a lot better and that's through the trump policies bloomberg is coming a little bit late to the game. he had a chance to do that in new york city. he didn't do that. if you look at what happened in new york, you see jent infantry occasiogentryificationn through his city there president trump has brought millions. president trump has put in the amazing tax plan that's helped stem late the economy. get more blacks hired. the immigration policies that he is putting in place is also helping the black worker, particularly the lower middle class black worker. things are working good in the trump economy. i think bloomberg is a little bit late to the game.

>> mayor bloomberg has been apologizing since the beginning of his presidential run. yesterday, specifically, he apologized for being white. watch. >> now, i will admit i have never been one to look back. my brain is sort of programmed to look ahead. but i ask myself could i have built my business and enjoyed my success under these conditions? of course not. when i was starting out, i knew that my dealings with vendors and suppliers and customers were governed by a set of laws designed to protect me against theft and exploitation. that basic truth, which was critical to my success and to the success of every business in america today was denied to black americans for hundreds of years. pete: a big part of his message was i only succeeded because of white privilege. >> you know what? mayor bloomberg has a problem. you can tell just by watching him now. he is using, you negotiation

that's the economy of this country and sometimes you need to go around the world to talk about that. but don't forget, there's a lot of gamesmanship happening here in washington as we all get ready for the senate trial. and that gamesmanship really has to do with not just the process, guys, but also just how long the senate trial just may last. leaders from both parties are now weighing what will happen in the trial what and how it should all play out, including suggestions about witnesses and forcing the hand of leader mcconnell to open up the process. >> yes. we can force votes. leader mcconnell will never be for witnesses and documents. he said he is taking his cue from the white house. he wants a cover up. they want no truth. >> if we are going to call one witness, we are going to call all the witnesses. there is not going to be a process where the democrats get their witnesses and the president gets shut out. >> senator lindsey graham there spoiling for a fight. this could last we heard from ted cruz yesterday, guys, a week, two weeks, but if you start calling

witnesses, this could last 6, 8 weeks. even beyond that and obviously that would certainly change the political landscape. this is, after all, an election year. as you mentioned, the president leaving for dab davos here in maybe an hour or couple hours. if we do, i promise i will share that with you but for now back to you. steve: thank you, kevin. bring in robert ray a member of president trump's defense team. of course former white water independent counsel and former federal prosecutor as well. he joins us today from d.c. robert, good morning to you. ainsley: hi, robert. >> good morning. steve: things are going to kick off tomorrow 1:00 in the senate. what's going to be different is you will have democrats presenting their case is essentially. now we will have democrat house managers present their case and the president is going to have a legal team including you presenting your case, right? >> that's right. a little unclear exactly how that will unfold and partly

we will, i imagine, have a better or clearer understanding once the senate probably passes a scheduling order or resolution indicating the time allotted to each side. but it's likely to be i expect that the house managers will go forward probably for the better part of two days. and then the president's defense team will have the case for an equal amount of time to present their case. essentially by way of opening. and then i imagine, you know, what the country is interested in finding out thereafter will be whether or not the there will be witnesses in this case. the president's job is to be president. that's why he is doing what he is doing. our job as part of the president's defense team is to show why and how the house managers do not have a case and also i think in part that will reveal why we don't think that witnesses are appropriate and that the senate can proceed to the task ultimately.

in the country's best interest and the president's interest, that a judgment of acquittal is appropriate here. pete: robert, we have already seen a sneak peek of the arguments of both sides. the president's legal team releasing a 7-page document. those house democrats that walked across from the house to the senate, 111 page opening trial briefing. here is a portion of the kind of argument they are going to make. they said the constitution provides a remedy when the president commits such serious abuses of his office, impeachment and removal. the senate must use that remedy now to safeguard the 2020 u.s. election protect our constitutional form of government and get, this eliminate the threat that the president poses to america's national security. how do you respond to the argument that this is about eliminating the threat of the president? >> the argument by the house managers is consistent with what was done in the house of representatives. and it is typically overstated. the fact remains though, and

this will be the argument from the president's defense team, that this is an impeachment that is fundamentally and constitutionally flawed. never in history has there been an impeachment of a president without a crime being alleged. given the circumstances that is untethered to the foundational principles that come from the constitution itself. and, you know, to drift away from that is essentially an effort and a partisan one at that, to attempt to remove a duly elected president. i mean, what are they saying to over 60 million americans who voted for president trump in the last election? it is only under very exceptional circumstances that a president should be removed. that's the founder's intent. and it can only be done under the constitution in the senate if there is a two thirds super majority which necessarily means that it's

bipartisan. and since this effort is entirely partisan, it is flawed from the beginning. ainsley: so, robert. we are following. this we keep hearing the democrats want all these witnesses called. but republicans, like lindsey graham is saying we want this to be very quick. we don't want this to drag on for a long time. we are hearing the phrase kill switch being thrown out there. is there anything that you can do just to make sure that if -- the president getting his way push this thing quickly through? >> look, i think you heard from the minority leader chuck schumer about the efforts that will be made and, perhaps, early on to force votes. i think presumably in order to put various senators, particularly those up for re-election, in a difficult position and to have to cast votes. but, at the end of the day, the majority leader, mitch mcconnell and his republican colleagues determine what the rules of this proceeding -- what the rules of the road will be. i think you will see that

unfold tomorrow. and those rules will provide fairness to both sides. you haven't heard from the president's defense team yet. that is shortly going to take place or as soon as or as early as this week. i think once both sides an opportunity in fairness to present their best case as to how to proceed. i think it's appropriate then for the senate and only then to take up the question about how long this trial will go. our position will be that it does not need to be a lengthy proceeding with witnesses if a determination can be made by the senate that what is alleged here and they are not crimes alleged, are not sufficient, even if shown to remove the president from office. steve: robert, you know this has been a long and winding road there are two articles of impeachment. abuse of congress. abuse of power and obstruction of congress. but along the way, there have been a lot of suggested crimes that are not in these

articles. listen to this. >> the devastating testimony corroborated evidence of bribery. >> it goes right to the heart of the issue of bribery. >> you can call this extortion. call it bribery. it's all the same thing. >> there might even be bribery. >> yes. there was definitely a quid pro quo. >> that a quid pro quo existed. >> attempted extortion and bribery. steve: so what do you make of the many attempts at impeachment. now they have settled on these two? >> if it was so overwhelming, steve, then why wasn't an article included that alleged just what you heard them say? steve: yeah. if it was so overwhelming a and pressing danger to the country first, how come bribery, extortion, obstruction of justice and illegal foreign campaign conviction or any of those crimes which arguably would constitute high crimes and misdemeanors, why weren't they alleged?

and the suggesting further as the speaker has and the house democrats that this was so pressing along the way that it warranted the immediate removal of the president from office? how come the speaker of the house of representatives held on to these articles and held them hostage for a period of almost an entire month? pete: yeah, robert. it's because they jumped from argument to argument. they know who their criminal is they have to find a crime. they found the best poll test. steve: we didn't even include russian collusion. pete: that wasn't even in there. >> this is not going to be allowed to pin the tail on the impeachment donkey. pete: that's what they are trying to do. we have got have witnesses. you mentioned a little bit in your first answer. witnesses, it's going to be unfair in the senate if we don't hear from everyone how are you going to answer that charge? i'm guessing a lot of it has to do with maybe how things were conducted in the house? >> it's the president's right under the sixth amendment to have witnesses, not the other way around. there is no right for the house managers to have witnesses. look, it's a trial.

it's an opportunity for fairness finally, and for both sides to present. if the senate decides that it needs witnesses in order to resolve something. then that's an entirely appropriate for the senate and their discretion to make. but, if on the other hand this is the type of impeachment and entirely partisan effort that ultimately doesn't have basis or foundation, what need would there be of witnesses. and in the senate can make that judgment without witnesses, they are entirely permitted to do that. that's our job to present that case. and that case will be presented later this week. steve: and we know the republicans would like to hear from hunter biden because he was one of the people they requested when they were coming up with their dream list in the house. ainsley: and the whistleblower. >> of course, if there are going to be witnesses it has to be fair and there has to be witnesses on both sides. it's very simple. it's very simple. steve: robert, thank you very much. ainsley: thanks, robert. >> thanks for having me. ainsley: you are welcome. jillian is over there. she has headlines for us. jillian: good morning to

celebrate his dream. we can serve others. there are so much that we can do. and i believe because one of his famous quotes i have decided to stick with love, hate is too great a burden to bear. so i really believe he would ask us to communicate without hatred, without fear, without rancher. rancor. i believe we can do that in america. i really do. steve: alveda, what do you remember about your uncle. not the stuff we see on television or news reels, but when you were there with him. >> there was a famous story about my ad. and his brother martin luther king jr. and they used to drive around the country preaching together. they were driving on a road one night and they had their bright lights on and so, you know how the law is you turn your bright lights down if a car is coming? steve: yeah. >> one car did not turn the lights down. so my dad said, brother, the next car we are going it turn our lights on, too.

and then martin luther king jr. reportedly said no, we're not going to do that because they are doing wrong. we're going to do what's right. so, from a teenager, all the way until his death, many years later in 1968, martin luther king jr. just had that kind of heart. he was always seeking to do what's right. was he perfect? no. did he make mistakes? of course, he was a human being. he was a prophet of god. he was always trying to do what was right. that's what martin luther king did i will always remember. pete: in preparing for today i am reminded he is 39 years old. taken too soon by an assassin's bullet. he could be alive today even. i know it's impossible to project him then on to today's politics. but as you look at today, what would dr. king, what we see in america in 2020? >> well, thankfully, we have so many of his words. we can go back and read his words, they are there they are god-inspired. so he really would encourage

trained to shoot properly and be safe? why would you want to close down ranges? i think it's more about control than it is about the safety of the citizens. i mean, that's obviously an issue that has nothing to do with safety. they want to control. when you close down gun ranges and then you say, you know, and i heard that there was a bill at one time that was saying that it was going to be a felony to teach someone how to shoot a gun why would you do something like that because you want control. ainsley: we can't protect ourselves when a bad guy brings a gun in your house. pete: ranges and types of ammunition and magazines. clip magazine size and types of rifle because they look scary. to your point eventually they nip around the margins to try to get rid of the core of the second amendment which is good people

it's time to pass the torch. they have gone with these two instead? >> well, it first means that newspapers don't vote so we have to always, you know, look at the fact that newspapers don't decide, you know, who will get to be the president of the united states. with that said, i don't think any of bernie's supporters were expecting the "new york times" the establishment to endorse him. you can see the look on their face that they certainly were not pleased with his answers. also, when you talk about, you know, time to pass the torch with joe biden, it really doesn't make a lot of sense because amy, senator amy as well as warren are not young either. i think they just wanted to make a choice to just move on from those types of candidates and to go ahead and give the ladies a push in this election. they do have different views of the world. but they certainly could have went with bloomberg who was endorsed twice by the "new york times." says a lot about him and what new york feels about him. so i think it's pretty clear that a field of candidate got smoked. steve: how much impact does the "new york times" endorsement have? >> not much.

steve, the truth is this is a 14-day out, four-way race all within the margin of error. 60% of iowa caucus goers haven't made up their mind truly yet. this is going to be decided on the ground of iowa not in the editorial back room. i would make a point this is the most unconventional unpredictable election coming up that we have had in modern history. the voters are going to be the boss and navigating this in the "new york times." steve: as well it should be. in the democratic party, i saw, i think the lead story in the "the washington post" right now is about the infighting between the top candidates. a lot of back and forth between bernie and biden. to set that up. let's get back into the way back machine, 2018, here's former vice president joe biden talking about social security. >> paul ryan was correct when they did the tax code, what's the first thing he decided we have to go after? social security and medicare. now, we need to do something about social security and

biden has been strong on social security. the alliance for retired americans give him a 96% rating when he was a senator. he does talk about the deficit once in a while which is eventually something a president and candidate will have to when interest rates go up and we have to actually start paying for all of this. he has been a champion of social security as his campaign said. the truth is the democrats, this catfight will get united at some point. this is about beating trump. i think some of the polls and some of the pundits don't understand that that will unite the democrats uniquely and ultimately in this election, i believe. steve: all right. and tezlyn, one of the things that the "new york times" says about joe biden is his main pitch is i'm the only guy who can beat trump. >> yeah. well, this is right now this is not just about beating trump. this is about the record and who is trying to doctor their past record. the bottom line is joe biden, of course, has been a champion of social security. he has been a champion multiple times on tape saying he wanted to cut social security. if he has changed his mind just say it. don't lie to the american people. unlike the warren sanders debacle we can read and see

arrested them saying they thought that they might storm somehow this capitol, on this lobby you can talk to legislators and convince one way or the other on any given measure. pete: i've been texting to a few people. 3 buses headed from another town wait to go get there and that's happening around the state and virginia is an open-carry state without permit, even a long rifle, a few have also said to open carry. steve: not today. pete: we will see what happens when they get there, all we ask for is peaceful event in protection of second amendment, why and when do you get to restrict my ability to follow the law in the state of virginia which is currently an open-carry state and obviously governor northam wants to change. ainsley: god-giving right, i
