president before impeachment begins. you are watching "fox and friends first". jillian: thank you for starting the day with us. in half an hour donald trump will take the stage of the world economic forum after landing in switzerland overnight letting the world know the us is open for business. rob: john roberts joins us live from davos with a view of today's events. >> reporter: it was different from last time donald trump was here leading up to the visit in 2018, 10 feet of snow. today the day has dawned bright and clear, not a cloud in the sky, the president touched down at the zürich airport, a quick beautiful helicopter ride. in half an hour he will give the opening address to the world economic forum, the

president giving a preview on his way here saying heading to davos to meet world and business leaders and bring good policy and additional hundreds of billions of dollars back to the united states, we are now number one in the universe by far. in his remarks the president is expected to touch on his recent trade victories with passage of the us mca in the senate, passed by the house a few weeks ago, the president will likely sign that in the next week or so along with the page 1 trade deal between the united states and china which he hopes will lead to a more comprehensive deal maybe before the election or not until after the election. he will also touch on continuing trade problems, with the european union. the president continuing to threaten 25% tariff on european cars if they can't get a new trade deal. a little bit of movement it would appear, with digital

services tax which donald trump does not like at all, a good discussion on the attack hoping to avoid tariff escalation, the president tweeting back at him that he thinks it is a good thing. they would like to avoid any more escalation. france doesn't want us tariffs on its main export of wine. the president will meet with the international business council and a number of bilateral meetings with the european commission, the president of the swiss confederation meeting with pakistani prime minister and will meet with the prime minister of iraq. one thing the president is trying to do on a day of contradictions is to show he is here in davos, switzerland doing the business of the nation while back in congress

on capitol hill, democrats trying to stop him doing that by kicking him out of office. the us economy likes with the president has been doing it even though futures are down it pointed to over 29,000, the president has a lot of good news economically, there will be points of disagreement on things like climate change what the president has a good hand as he kicks things off today. shannon: we will bring it to you live, thank you so much. rob: all eyes on capitol hill as donald trump's impeachment trial begins. shannon: the president calls on republican reinforcements to help defend against the democrats. rob: kevin cork joins us from statuary hall with what we can expect today. >> let me walk you through the process. >> the people at home so they can follow along.

mcconnell and trump want to ignore sworn evidence and brit hume saying more a cover-up than a fair trial and others saying it is an effort to conceal the president's conduct in the dark of night. what do you make of this reaction? >> we have been through this twice in the house. they have had every opportunity to present their arguments in the house and on tv and they will continue this in the senate. shannon: this is reaching a lot of americans who watch other channels and listen to these people when they say these things. >> it does. it is campaign a at its best. we will hear not only at this impeachment hub but also in the coming months with a presidential election. this is what we will hear from all the democrats who tried to unseat this president. rob: republicans say abuse of power is not a specific crime. democrats say it is the

ultimate crime. who is right on that? interesting back and forth. >> the articles of impeachment do not site one criminal law violation but it doesn't have to. it is the general high crimes or misdemeanors. these 100 senators make an independent decision that rises to a level of impeachment and you won't find that answer in any criminal code or united states code or state code. >> the president will start his defense calling on a number of house republicans, take a look at the list of them. what do you see when you see these names? >> these are members of the house. shannon: they have been fighting for him. >> they will not be making arguments like schiff would be. he is a manager of the democrat house.

shannon: thousands people fled virginia's state capitals peacefully protest, the event coming after days of speculation about possible violence. rob: a lot of weapons, none of them used. griff jenkins joins us from richmond, virginia this morning. >> reporter: they came from as far as california and texas and there were a lot of them with a clear message, leave our guns alone. we have official numbers, estimates some 22,000 people turned out, 6000 on capital square without guns, 16,000 outside the perimeter. many of them carrying weapons, with only one arrest, 21-year-old woman arrested for carrying a mask. here is what they had to say. >> it leads to accomplished -- we have to protect ourselves, an individual's right to protect themselves.

mexico as their cases are decided. the president threatened mexico with economic sanctions if it failed to do so. the latest in flux, the mexican president offered migrants jobs in mexico if they into the country in a peaceful way but by sunday mexico's immigration agency says many of those who complied with the government's instructions would be sent back to their home country. and this confusion the mexican president issuing the statement, quote, trump's threat led to a revision of what was going on at the southern border. mexico wasn't acting as a retaining wall, and what mexico is doing is adhering to the law. the trump administration has agreement with guatemala, el salvador and honduras to seek us asylum to those countries instead. those asylum agreements being challenged by the aclu in district court.

rob: candidates in the 2020 race talking race issues at the brown and black democratic presidential forum but there was only one nonwhite candidate on the stage. jillian: the field narrows ahead of the primary. fox news political analyst gianna caldwell, thanks for being here. we are keeping an ion davos. as we keep an eye on that is there a diverse any problem within the democrats? >> they created this problem, there should be some level of diversity, we should be looking for the best candidate most equipped to handle issues that plague america but when it comes to the democratic party and the black vote a lot of the

things they are offering our issues they created, policies through and through especially when it comes to the african-american community, it led to rules in the black community, mass incarceration, the crime bill the joe biden and bernie sanders voted for, dodd-frank, banking regulations among jpmorgan chase and bank of america, african-americans arrived for loans which african-americans retained a lot of wealth so think about a lot of these issues that come up day today that they are trying to fix are things they created themselves. rob: let's pull up candidates that participate in this forum, the brown and black for him in the list of people you see here especially the front runners, there is no diversity among the front runners in this race, what do you think of that?

>> the two leading candidates for the black vote, joe biden and bernie sanders and joe biden's model for african americans, vote for me because i have a cool black friend, the fact that we know the joe biden's policies throughout the years come being close to segregationists, shouldn't be leading in this race and younger african-americans specifically 35 and younger understand people who support bernie sanders understand joe biden's policies have been distractive. pete buttigieg whose name has been coming up, and individual who is not garnering much support for the african-american community, around 2%, if you look at the polling, african-american find themselves uncomfortable voting for someone who happens to be

homosexual, an interesting group of people and with an administration that has done a lot of targeted policies for african americans it will lead to an interesting conversation in the general election. >> let's listen to some of the candidates. >> i will not get into the details. if someone is threatening to sue talk to a lawyer. >> officers of color. >> i am proud of having started a nonprofit that created thousands of jobs, cities that are majority black. >> 30% of african-american kids are living in poverty. i don't pretend to live that life but i do know it is not fair and not right. >> that is what a number of them have to say. something you said a moment ago, you made a reference to the fact a lot of black voters don't necessarily support pete buttigieg because of his sexual orientation but why do you think that is? >> a lot of black voters in south carolina are deeply

religious people and:deeply religious beliefs and older voters who believe that marriage is a man and a woman and would rather not have a candidate in office for president who is married to a man. this is what polling suggests and people are making up with a lot of folks. >> what about mayor pete's issues and mayor bloomberg out of new york. how do you get past these issues. >> i consider mayor pete a non-issue when it comes to the black vote. he will not win much of anything. mayor bloomberg is willing to spend $2 billion of his own money but the stop and frisk

rob: a good weekend and put up a tweet that got him in trouble. >> on the heels of his big win. connor mcgregor is praising donald trump saying phenomenal president, most certainly one of them sitting atop the shoulders of many amazing giants who came before him, the early stages of term incredible. social media divided some telling him to delete the tweet, others telling him not to get political but then there are some folks who totally agree with that message, one twitter user says he just ko the lives, steve says this tweet belongs in the presidential library archives for the rest of eternity, donald trump enjoyed a close relationship with usc. there you have it. among this group of athletes donald trump is pretty popular among some.

that is the lowest in 50 years. the average unemployment rate for my administration is the lowest for any us president in us history, reasonably high rate. they are concentrating wealth in the hands of a few. creating the most inclusive economy ever to exist. and every race, religion and creed. african-american rates among hispanic americans and asian americans have reached record lows. african-american youth unemployment has reached the lowest it has ever been in the history of our country. african-american poverty has plummeted to the lowest rate ever recorded. the unemployment rate for women

reached the lowest level since 1953 and women comprise a majority of the american workforce. that is for the first time. the unemployment rate for veterans has dropped to a record low. the unemployment rate for disabled americans has reached an all-time record low. the high school diploma achieve the lowest unemployment rate in us history. wages are rising across the board and those at the bottom of the income ladder are enjoying the percentage by far, the fourth-largest gains. wages are growing faster than management wages, earnings growth at the bottom 10% outpacing the top 10%, something that has not happened. paychecks for high school graduates are rising faster than for college graduates.

young americans just entering the workforce are sharing in america's extraordinary prosperity. since i took office, 2 million millennials of gotten jobs and their wages have grown by nearly 5% annually. a number that was unthinkable. nobody would have ever thought it was possible three years ago. a record number of americans between the ages of 25 and 34 are now working. in the 8 years before i took office, over 300,000 working age people left the workforce. in just three years in my administration, 3.5 million people have joined the workforce. 10 million people have been lifted off welfare in less than three years. celebrating the dignity of work is a fundamental pillar of our agenda. this is a blue collar boom. since my election, the net

worth of the bottom half of wage earn errors has increased by plus 47%. three times faster than the increase for the top 1%. real median household income is at the highest level ever recorded. the american dream is back, bigger, better and stronger than ever before. no one is benefiting more than america's middle class. we have created 1.2 million manufacturing and construction jobs. a number also unthinkable. after losing 60,000 factories under the previous two administrations hard to believe when you hear 60,000 factories, america has now gained in a very short period of time 12,000 new factories under my administration and the number is going up rapidly. we will be beating the 60,000 number that we lost,

except these will be bigger, newer and the latest. years of economic stagnation have given way to a roaring guiser of opportunity u.s. stock markets have soared more than 50%. adding $19 trillion to household wealth and boosting 401(k)s, pension, and college savings accounts for millions of hard working families. and these great numbers are many things and it's despite the fact that the fed has raised rates too fast and lowered them too slowly. and even now as the united states is by far the strongest economic power in the world, it's not even close. it was going to be close, but a lot of good things happened to us and not so

good things happened to other places. they are forced to compete. and we compete with nations that are getting negative rates. something very new. meaning they get paid to borrowing money. something i could get used to very quickly. love that got to pay back your loan? how much am i getting? nevertheless, we still have the best numbers that we have had in so many different areas. it's a conservative approach and we have a tremendous upside potential when all of the trade deals and massive deregulation starts kicking in, which will be during this year, especially toward the end of the year. those trade deals are starting to kick in already. the regulations are -- and i see such tremendous potential for the future. we have not even started because the numbers we are talking about are massive. the time for skepticism is over. people are flowing back into our country.
