remains scandalous. this is a fox news alert from america's news headquarters. the l.a. county sheriff's department is holding a media conference right now on this morning's helicopter crash that killed nba legend kobe bryant and his 13-year-old daughter. let's listen in life. >> we wanted to give you an update. we have the chief medical examiner who is here and will also speak. we want to make sure all our spanish-language outlets will be giving those remarks in spanish as soon as possible. now i want to bring to the podium alex b and wava.
8:01 pm
good evening everyone tonight's update will give you an idea of what the next step is in this investigation and everyone's role. as you can ram imagine it will be a very extensive process that will take not just days but weeks for us to recover from this. as the l.a. county sheriff's department, were working with federal partners which is the ntsb and the faa to assist them in the course of the investigation. the faa is on scene and have provided very valuable assistance in securing a 5-mile flight restriction for the area of the crash site and a 5000-foot ceiling over it. that's a great help in securing the crash site. as you may have already heard they are in route to our location to initiate the
8:02 pm
investigation. we want to thank our partners from the fire department for their timely response putting out the fire and securing the area. right now as you can imagine some logistical nightmare because the crash site is not easily assessable however were now faced with well-wishers and people morning who have descended on the area, on the residential community and even the crash site itself that we have to reiterate that it's limits to everyone except first responders and investigators. we now have personnel deployed to get people away from there and they cannot access the crash site. it is in very rough terrain even in daylight, much less in the middle of the night. we want people to stay away. the location itself is in a residential community and there are no businesses and we
8:03 pm
want to have the roads free for first responders and investigators. if you do not have an identification that establishes you as a local resident you will not be permitted access to the area. that road closure is in effect right now. those road closures will be between al gora. [inaudible] closed until further notice. north and southbound of the 101 freeway is also closed at that exit until further notice. for community members in the area there is a location if you want to go there to express condolences and support for our community and this time of tragedy. that is a place to go. i want to thank the coroner's office who is now here, you will hear from our chief medical examiner doctor
8:04 pm
jonathan lucas and the chp is assisting with the road closures. the ventura county sheriff's department is also assisting in addition with santa monica park rangers. it's a very large group that will be deployed throughout the night to secure the area. we want to encourage people, if you're not a local resident, please stay away from the area. now i want to turn it over to doctor lucas. >> good evening. my name is jonathan lucas, the chief medical examiner for the city of los angeles. first and foremost i want to offer our thoughts and condolences with all the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. today multiple members of our special operations response team on-site our recovery
8:05 pm
efforts began today, but as the sheriff's mentioned, given the terrain and the condition of the site, we expect this will take at least a couple, if not a few days to complete the recovery. our priority is completing the recovery as quickly as possible, but safely and thoroughly in doing that to make sure our staff are safe. our next priority after recovery is identification also notification of the families. all of which we will do as soon as we possibly can. i want to give a big thanks to the sheriff and his department has been extremely helpful to our department and i know they
8:06 pm
will be going forward. i also want to emphasize that will be doing our work thoroughly, quickly and with the utmost compassion. again we offer our condolences to the family and i just want to reassure everybody were doing everything we can to confirm identifications and give closure to the families involved. thank you. >> in spanish. [speaking in native tongue] >> you are listening live to a media conference being held by the l.a. county sheriff's department. they are talking about the tragic helicopter crash that happened a few hours ago in los angeles, in calabasas.
8:07 pm
basically the authorities are telling us, going over there process of investigation that follows this tragic crash that killed nba legend, basketball legend kobe bryant and his 13-year-old daughter as well as several others including john aldo belly and his wife and daughter. the sheriff and other authorities have said their main priority right now is to secure the crash site and apparently it's become a little bit of a problem, a logistical nightmare because people are morning, basketball fans have descended onto the crash site and now authorities are asking people to stay away so they can try to recover as much as they can as part of
8:08 pm
their investigation into what went wrong. the ntsb is on its way, the faa is on the scene and authorities saying it will take days to complete the recovery process. that will be followed by the official identification of the victims and the notification of the families, of course the whole world now talking about it and now knows that toby bryant was on board that helicopter. that is what several media outlets are reporting. again, basketball legend kobe bryant and his 13-year-old daughter gianna killed along with nine people, among the nine people in a private helicopter crash 30 miles northwest of l.a. and we are listening live to a press conference from l.a. authorities. let's get back in now >> every recovery is going to help with identification so like i said we've started that process and as the days come
8:09 pm
we will have more information as quickly as we can we will be removing the individuals from the site. we have made some transports, yes at this point we are transporting and we will be examining them in the days to come. the identification can be a variety of things, fingerprints being the most important, but other types of methods we can use that are scientifically based and we will do that if we need to
8:10 pm
[inaudible] we do know there was a issue of visibility and low ceiling. the actual conditions at the time of impact is still yet to be determined. we will have that from the ntsb shortly. we had none operating in the area at the time. because of the weather. [inaudible] it's roughly a football field, roughly a hundred yards across in each direction.
8:11 pm
we received a 911 call and from there all the lines light up at once so we had a bunch of people call out once. there were numerous witnesses that either heard or saw something. [inaudible] we want all witnesses to be interviewed first by the federal investigator. once they are done then we can identify. that'll be up to the faa and ntsb
8:12 pm
[inaudible] i don't really know enough about condition at this point to answer that question that i can tell you we will use every method available as needed. thank you all. >> thank you very much. >> you are watching a live press conference in calabasas from the l.a. county sheriff's department talking about the tragic helicopter crash that killed basketball legend kobe bryant and his 13-year-old daughter. we learned a little bit more information about the process that will follow in the coming days. they will try to secure the crash site and they will recover as much evidence as possible in trying to figure out what went wrong. we know the ntsb is on the way. faa is on the scene and what follows next is identification and notification of family.

when he ran for congress, he discovered a secret that a lot of washington insiders know which is you can make a lot of money doing media buys for political campaigns. for example if you were a candidate for the united states senate and you wanted to buy a million dollars in advertising and i did that purchase, i would get the million dollars but the standard practices i would get to keep about 15% as commission. you make a lot of money doing that so what does bernie sanders do, he's running for congress in vermont and makes his wife jane responsible for media buys and we estimate, based on the number. >> so the family.
