that is "the story" of wednesday january 29th, 2020. as always, the story continues but we'll see you tomorrow night at 7:00. tucker carlson coming up next. see you tomorrow, everybody. have a good night. ♪ >> tucker: good evening, and welcome to "tucker carlson." an update on the world's dullest impeachment trial. if something significant happens, will bring it to you right away. the question is why has this been so boring? well, because it doesn't mean anything to it rather than a debate over things that matter, you are watching purported adult yell at each other whether a former vice president's ne'er-do-well middle-age son should interrupt his early retirement in l.a. and come talk to them. honestly? who cares. whatever. for once, we do have a semiinteresting development tonight. apparently some democratic

senators are considering casting votes to acquit donald trump. new reports suggest that senators joe manchin of west virginia, kyrsten sinema of arizona, and doug jones of alabama are undecided on the president's guilt. that's a story. undecided? how could they be undecided about this? it's not like it's a totally fraudulent exercise in partisan politics. no, not at all. if you've been watching they know that this is nothing less than and we want to be totally clear about this, and national security crisis. >> president trump is a clear and present danger to our free and fair elections and our national security. >> the president is an ongoing threat to our ongoing security. >> the president betrayed our security and undermined the security of our elections. >> undermined are national security. >> so he could keep power. >> he harmed america's national

questioning tonight, the democratic case just fall apart. i came from the floor, we are in recess here. adam schiff said on the floor that this is all about bribery, extortion. that's what's going on here. but the house did in charge bribery or extortion, they did not allege that in the articles of impeachment. we are wondering, why are we here exactly? they don't even know. i think the democrats are sensing that and i wouldn't be surprised if we picked up some votes. >> you are saying, the united state senator spent all day at the impeachment trial and asked the big questions like, why are we here? that's deeply revealing. this is hypothetical, but it turns out that the democrats don't hold the line, some vote to acquit, what will they say at that point, i wonder? as a party? >> i think they are just going to have to admit that this was ill-advised from the beginning. what it really has been a partisan attempt to overturn any election. that's what it turns down to. they wanted to impeach him from day one, hell bent on doing it.

is this amazing juxtaposition between what we saw in new jersey and the president having over 150 people requesting tickets versing nobody paying attention to the democrats by stress reelection campaign out here in the impeachment process. i read a piece in fox news -- >> tucker: i can't resist, apparently threes democrats in the senate know it's a hoax because they are thinking to vote to acquit. >> i'm proud of the senators who say the nonpartisan solution here is to dismiss this because of the after mentioned reasons i wrote in fox news. it's the democrats' burden of proof, they have not fourth and the evidence from the house whatsoever to fulfill the criteria of the articles of impeachment. second, the uncontested facts here are entirely on the president's side, on the side of the constitution and the side of the law. we know that ukraine did get its
5:10 pm
aid, no pressure. within the year it was appropriated for, and the meetings with president zelensky occurred with no announcement of any sort of investigation. so why are we here? the third thing is that the articles themselves legally failed. abuse of power and obstruction of congress as alan dershowitz has repeatedly very well articulated are not the constitutional standards for impeachment. and that matters here. even though we all make fun of this crazy theater, this actually matters to the state of our nation, that we are allowing the house to weaponize impeachment. by the way, they've been trying to pass the past 5060 years to weaponize the majority? they are now minimizing the impact of the judicial branch. our subpoenas can go through the judiciary because president trump has put over 160 judicial appointments that are conservative. where is the majority in the house? that's what they are trying to weaponize and say that we get all the power now.

finally, this whole bolton bombshell? this is the 11 hour ridiculous julie swetnick -- >> tucker: as we are speaking, adam schiff is on the floor demanding bolton -- we are not going to. he's demanding to be 21's presence and threatening to subpoena bolton. >> which is ridiculous and this is the 11 hour attempt to try to say that there is some sort of evidence here and we've learned after resumption after presumption after assumption that the democrats make a much ado about absolutely nothing, like they do with the kavanaugh hearings, with this being the investigation, we are learning through this entire impeachment sham, they are trying to extend the circus. we need witnesses! why? >> tucker: really quick, they keep saying we don't have witnesses but i thought they had more than a dozen witnesses during the house. >> they actually had 18. they keep saying there was only 17 witnesses. the 18th witnessed they won't even acknowledge is the iag

michael hatton sin who testified likely against schiff and the whole whistle-blower inception. they won't even acknowledge that. why do we need more? >> tucker: thanks so much for that summation. >> thank you, tucker. >> tucker: the upside of collapsing political campaigns here is they tend to be pretty honest. once they sense they are losing, candidates decide to see what they actually think. that apparently is where elizabeth warren is tonight. with her chances of becoming president having assumed an trajectory of a plane crash, she decides to go full fascist because that's who she is and has always been. warman releases a plan that the man's criminal penalties for anybody who post this information online to dissuade voters. try to ignore the relevant irony here. this is a person for years posted false claims online that she was a cherokee indian to sway voters. this is a candidate who pretended that she lost a job

5:14 pm
warren is not the first person to fantasize about this. the founders of this country understood that well and that's why they protected us with the first amendment. warren doesn't care. many on the left to have his claim, the first mammon is racist, written by slaveholders. shut up and obey! sharing information about you so she can determine things that she does not want sad and it can be punished. warren has also promised a global summit on disinformation so other fascist governments can coordinate their efforts against speech more efficiently print no word yet whether what north korea has joined warren's budding coalition, they are a natural partner in this. none of this has happened, at least not soon. voters do not love elizabeth warren enough to give her more power. but the press still takes elizabeth warren very seriously. they love her. warren won "the new york times" endorsement for president just the other day. the question is are the media on board with her plan to shut down

5:28 pm
lisa boothe, what if biden crumbles? than you might see him try to come in a contested convention and deal with that. another thing when i heard about the michael bloomberg campaign? we've got staffers all over the place? arizona, i have asked somebody affiliated with the campaign, what are voters talking about in arizona? what he was hearing out there now that you have the staffers out there? the number one issue they talk about in arizona is charter schools but no one else is talking about that but michael bloomberg has a record on that in new york, so he's out there touting it. >> tucker: i think he has an admirable record on that, actually. i do. i agree with him on that. i hope he sticks with it. >> if bernie sanders does well in iowa, he'll go to his favorite state in new hampshire, won it by a lot in 2016. we could see a bernie surge here and the democrats might get really nervous. >> tucker: if he wins nevada, it's tough. i hope he'll be along with us. >> i will see you there.

thanks, doctor, for coming on. describe, if you would, what it means to get the coronavirus. >> the coronavirus is a virus in mammals, different kinds of mammals. it goes from one species to another. this particular strain, and it's a single strand of genetic material that mutates all the time, that changes all the time, that's why it can go from being the common cold to being quite deadly. the way humans get it and we talked about this before is by being in close contact with animals. it hops into humans and it can start to accelerate and go from human to human. the symptoms you get, tucker, our fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath. sounds like any respiratory virus, right? that's the problem. we don't know yet how deadly it is, but it looks like because of all the cases in china that weren't reported and i believe there are a lot of mild cases that were never reported and it may not be as deadly as feared.

over here in the united states, the centers for disease control has done a fantastic job isolating for those who have it, checking for those who came from rohan including the 200 getting off the plane in california today, and every day that goes by, without those people spreading it to other people, the more we believe that maybe it's not as contagious as feared. >> tucker: gosh, i hope that's the case. some have died, over 100 according to the official chinese counting of it. how do they die? without being morbid, i think it's an important question. what kills you about the coronavirus? >> very important question and like with sars which is the previous one we are worried about because sars killed 1 out of 10 people who had it, it's usually pneumonia, it shortness of breath and cough and he developed pneumonia. almost everyone who has died from this so far has been elderly -- not all, there was a young teen who died tragically,

we know a lot of people that know don lamon. that's not what they think. i've never belittled anyone, says don lamon. anybody. really? because we have a vcr or whatever they are calling them now. watch. >> as journalists, we have to give you the facts. what happens there is you don't talk about the substance of what you said or if there, if it's factual or not. you don't talk about that. what you do is you say everybody is out to get me. their audience just eats it up. yeah, that's right. not even caring about the facts. >> tucker: yeah, they are just dumb. just dumb. then there was the time that don, enemy of all belittling, said that it was okay to attack people for wearing the wrong hat. >> the maga hat provokes a certain reaction from many people. when you wear that hat, you are saying, "build that wall."
5:55 pm
>> tucker: we should say, we told you that it happened monday night. it could have happened any nig night. it happened over the weekend. but the point remains, remember the time don lamon attacked kanye west as a race traitor for daring to have opinions that he doesn't share? >> him in front of all these white people, mostly white people, embarrassing himself and embarrassing americans, but mostly african-americans. and now, all of a sudden, he is the person who represents the african-american community. he doesn't. this was an embarrassment. his mother is rolling over in her grave. >> tucker: of the chief washington correspondent and coauthor of "the populace guide to 2020." a book that has received no promotion and is number 11 on amazon tonight and for good reason because it explains what
5:56 pm
is going on around the world. thanks for joining us. >> thank you, tucker. appreciate it. >> tucker: so, don lamon gets caught doing something which people do all the time, which is mocking everyone out in the great darkce between the east on the west coast, but he gets caught doing on it. and then he doesn't really apologize. why? >> no. he doesn't apologize, because he and everybody there, they have sheer contempt for the american working class or anybody who would vote for donald trump. rick's joke was that these americans can't find ukraine on a map. well, he can find ukraine on a map and he wants to send you and your viewer's kids to go diana were over there. is he smarter than they are? if he can't find ukraine on a map, are you stupider than rick wilson? >> tucker: i love what you just said. you went right to policy.
5:57 pm
you did and it said that people are immoral or they are stupid. you said that they are pushing policies that are wrong. poor debate is always over what do we do with the country or foreign policy. they never even addressed that. they don't want to have a policy debate. why is that? >> because that's the easier debate, to call you racist or ignorant. you are racist or ignorant if you want -- if you don't want an open border, you are racist. if you don't want more trade with china so we have cheaper plastic goods here at home, then you are an idiot. you've never taken an economics class. what do you know? i'm like, hey, man. i'm just trying to feed my kids. you fool. you are better off. prices are cheaper. that's what they think education and being smart is. to demonize them so they don't have to defend their idiotic policy position. >> tucker: what i find so striking is that the people who are saying things like this, who
5:58 pm
are dodging the real question of demonizing the country they preside over, are the products of a very deliberate system designed to create oppressed people. pete buttigieg is a product of harvard. they are not impressive. maybe there is something wrong with the system we've created. >> you say this all the time. it's not that we are antielite. we just want a better elite. we want a better elite who doesn't come through harvard and decide the best thing to do is go work in private equity or fix bread prices. look at winston churchill and these other guys. they will go off to war. they would go and they would create -- they went off to do great things in this country. we have a great tradition of having an educated elite, which understands what it owes to its working class. these people think that they earned it, so they don't own owe them anything. >> tucker: so, they are entirely convinced that not only are they in charge, but that they deserve to be at, and if you are not in charge, you
5:59 pm
deserve it. >> this is what they have decided. they have created the system which is that they are not impressive what's away in any way whatsoever. they have to protect. america woke up in 2016. that's what my book talks about. that's what we talke talk aboutl the time. america understood that no, we don't have to buy into the system whatsoever. the people on cnn who are literally laughing at you, the one thing you have left in your life is the boat. that's what they may have. that's the only power remaining. >> tucker: of course dominic course, they are trying to take your vote away. you deserve it. that's it for us. unfortunately, we've got ddr if you can.
6:00 pm
the great sean hannity. >> tucker: you just said unfortunately, we'll be back tomorrow. you actually said those words. we are out of time. are you kidding? >> sean: thank you. welcome to hannity. the repulsive disgusting schiff show circus is over. finally, we see the light at the end of the tunnel. at this hour, very good sources are telling me that the schumer-schiff sham show is circling the drain. can't come soon enough. it appears senate majority leader, mcconnell, now has the votes to block further witnesses and this whole pointless charade could be wrapped up friday or saturday of this week. earlier today, colorado senator,
