heather: good morning. it is wednesday february 5th and you are watching "fox and friends first". thank you for starting a busy news day with us. what about the state of the union address last night? very emotional moments, promises made promises kept, donald trump delivered his third state of the union address, touting strong economy and military might while picking on the radical left and honoring some great americans. a lot of people honored last night but it wasn't enough. house speaker nancy pelosi, what did you think about it? this dramatic display of disdain. the top democrats to tearing up the president's speech making it very obvious what she was doing. griff jenkins live in the nation's capital with a recap of the good, the bad and the ugly. good morning.

labor force and so forth. that is why we were able to add jobs month after month even though we have record low unemployment. this is translated into higher wages for working people, the lowest 25% have made big wage gains. minorities are switching jobs because they are finding more opportunities and women so long walked up in traditional female jobs are starting businesses at a record pace because this is an opportunity economy. heather: i like the way you put that, opportunity space. a lot of arguments from democrats that the actual paychecks aren't increasing but they are and you mention the increasing job specifically the blue-collar jobs, manufacturing up 500,000, construction, 700,000, transportation and warehousing up 500,000 and that is just the start. >> bloomberg at harvard business school, harvard economics have

honored in the crowd. when it comes to al baghdadi the parents of kayla mueller in the audience, she was terrifically captured by out baghdadi and isis but the mission to kill him was called 814 in remembrance of her birthday. she brought up a human side of these terrorists that have done terrible things to our country and our troops. it was a big night to recognize the military. >> one of the big moment of the night a lot of folks will be talking about is nancy pelosi ripping up donald trump's speech. not only did she rip his speech, she ripped of what she said about what you just mentioned, the last surviving tuskegee airmen, the survival of a child born at 21 weeks, the morning families of rocky jones and kayla mueller.

what is your reaction? >> not to mention educational choice and the wonderful things he laid out. my reaction is is it was disgraceful, a dastardly thing to do, completely unnecessary. she ripped up their political fortunes in the future. it was a small move, someone who is completely controlled by hatred for donald trump. the middle of freedom given to rush limbaugh last night, a conservative icon and rush limbaugh said a couple years ago at a press conference donald trump gave, a press conference conservatives have been waiting for for 20 years. i will say about the speech the state of the union address, conservatives and patriots have been waiting for for 30 years, she hates what he is doing, who cares, ultimately that is where i come down. heather: that was a huge moment i hope a lot of people are talking about. thank you so much, appreciate it.

happened? >> iowa was a complete unmitigated disaster for the democrats, pretty hard for them to argue they could be put in charge of the country when they can't run their own caucus. it was a big victory for donald trump. he had a turnout incumbent record for a presidency, democrats are engaged in chaos. if i'll wants to maintain first in the nation status it should go to a closed primary system rather than an outdated caucus because it comes down to human error, technological glitches and partisan pranks. heather: should iowa maintain their first in the nation status? it wasn't iowa's fault, it was the dnc and this apps. >> there is not an apps for that but like patrick maholmes they will come through in the fourth quarter we will see iowa settling and i must agree with one sentiments and that is the caucus system is outmoded.

it is rather exclusive. if you don't have time to sit in a high school gymnasium for two hours on a monday night, if you are a single mom, a senior, a working person with a couple of jobs it will be really hard to get there. it also favors candidates with very passionate bases but not as broad of support not to mention there is a not a secret ballot which means if you are in the same gymnasium as your pastor or your boss or your husband and don't want them to know how you are going to vote that is taken away from you. decide to move past the outmoded caucus system and into something like an open system of voting to maximize participation. heather: interesting to watch people caucusing back and forth influence other people to vote for their candidates because that is what this is supposed to be about in america, every day americans ideas, who they think should represent them, who they want to throw their support behind. is what dnc chairman tom perez had to say, what happened last

night should never happen again. it is clear the apps in question did not function adequately. it will not be used in nevada or anywhere else during the primary election process. this technology must provide transparent accounting of what went wrong. he is blaming the apps but at the same time, dhs offered to vet the apps and equipment but they said no thanks. >> the democrats have no one to blame but themselves, the idea that you will go into iowa which is the second most important contest after super tuesday if you're a 2020 presidential hopeful and not try out the software seems a little insane. i will say this. among democrats there is a concern the 2016 was rigged against bernie sanders and you have a field, in nevada with a caucus you might have confusion and chaos again where you have a lot of presidential hopefuls on the democrat side concerned about a tainted process and a

thank you for joining us, appreciate it. i know this is your second term as president of the new york farm bureau and you advocated passage of the us mca, something the president talked about last night. how has that benefited you and your family? >> he did talk about it last night and talked about a lot at the american farmer meeting in austin and it will benefit all of agriculture tremendously. we support a lot of products and a lot of people don't think of new york as an ag state but we really are, $6 billion industry, and depend on exports tremendously. the canadian market will be a great opportunity and so will the mexican one. heather: he didn't just talk about us mca, the other trade deals helping farmers in china deal with china by $30 billion of exports, we went through us

mca. we knew markets were american farm products, $28 billion farmer stimulus package as well. think about the other benefits you have been able to see. >> a lot of what went on was a long-term decision and short-term farmers paid the price. we had lower commodity prices but looking forward to the opportunities, the disagreement and all the agreement we will make in the future as we get more markets and a premier producer of us ag products exported all over the world to feed people. heather: looking at video from your farm, it is huge, big farm you are dealing with, you dealt with it. >> we have many family members involved. the size of the farm has grown.

two sons and two brother in laws and we are proud of that and that is the family operation. heather: what was it like to be at the state of the union address as we wrap up? >> a unique experience, we met lots of people but living in northern new york a great reminder when i saw the military family reunited we underestimate the value of what those people do for us and our country and democracy and the things we have here, service men and women and families and the sacrifices they make every day allow us to have what we having the freedoms we have in america, a reminder of the great system we haven't how lucky we are. heather: a lot of sacrifices farming community has done as well as it is nice to have a president working for them now. thank you for joining us, we appreciate it, have a great day
