is behind both attacks, alex hogan live in the bronx at the precinct where we expect one of the officers to be released actually from the hospital any moment now, alex, what's the latest? >> eric, exactly, the police are saying that the man that opened fire is the very same who just did that this morning, we are told that both officers are in stable condition and the one who was shot last night actually expect today walk out of the medical as we speak, that could happen any moment, again, we were at a news conference just moments ago that wrapped up and police told us that the suspect is in custody, police say this morning that he barged into the headquarters of the 41st precinct firing multiple rounds, one of those bullets hitting an officer in the arm. nypd saying that the man was taken into custody at 8:00 a.m. after the gunman ran out of bullets, all of this happened 12 hours after suspect, accused of opening fire on two officers in

a patrol van, one of those officers was shot. >> and that's what is most frightening about this, this is not a crime gone bad, this is not a -- a liquor store robbery interrupted that a tragedy erupts from, this is a premeditated assassination attempt. >> the suspect according to police had a lengthy history of violence including a conviction of attempted murder for which he was paroled in 2017, yet he is in custody and a woman who was there at the time is being questioned as well. new york governor cuomo responded called the crimes heinous saying the officers put their lives on the line every day to keep the public safe, new york mayor bill de blasio also speaking out. >> there's just too much hatred out there right now, there's too much hatred in general, there's too much hay dread being -- hatred directed at our officers

diseases at providence regional center, thank you for joining us. >> good morning. arthel: good morning, if you could start first by telling us how this patient was treated and why is it considered successful? >> yeah, well, we placed him in isolation that was strictly, you know, appropriate for this sort of infection where we could prevent any infection of other providers, nurses, any of the caregivers, the patient himself early this presentation had relatively mild disease, about a week into his course he got worse, developed pneumonia and at that point given results from china and under the cdc, we elected to give him, antiviral medication and within 24 hours he improved significantly.

this was quite encouraging and he improved and thereafter remained without fevers and felt much better, over in the next few days we felt it was safe for him to be discharged to home turned care of the local health district. he was very happy to be able to go home and we were relieved that he improved and was able to return home as well. arthel: and i understand that he lives alone and remains isolated apart from that caretaker, is there any potential for relapse or is his immune compromised making him more susceptible to catching viruses like the flu? >> so he does live alone which is very helpful and we do have a support system for him while he mains in isolation of home. at this point, we feel he's basically fully recovered and should not really be at risk for any further infectious complications or relapse for that matter.

arthel: you believe it was experimental antiviral medication that you gave to the patient, can you apply the same treatment for all people infected with the coronavirus or does it depend on the stage of their infection? >> yes, at this point the cdc has been working with the authorities in china and have recently opened a large clinical trial of chinese patients looking at those with severe disease as well as moderate disease and will help inform us of the effective of the antiviral for all patients. we had positive response in one patient, we would certainly like to see the data come out. arthel: and how soon would you get that type of data? >> i think they are looking to get information over the next couple of months to enroll patients within that study. arthel: you are monitoring in the meantime more than a dozen

people who had close contact with the patient that we started out talking with, the man in washington, have they shown any corona symptoms and should families, dr. díaz, or medical staff get same treatment or injection that you gave this patient and is it kind of like getting the flu shot for prevention, if you follow me? >> yeah, so we -- as far as we know all the contact of the patient has been positive, we are not aware of any positive other than single patient, we are doing monitoring of caregivers who had contact with the patients to make sure that they don't develop any symptoms but we are confident with our practices that there were no exposure amongst caregivers within the hospital. arthel: okay, dr. díaz, keep up great work, good luck, sir, thank you very much for your time. eric: one of the new york city police officers wounded in the attack is leaving the hospital.

here today, arthel. arthel: okay, jacqui heinrich, thank you so much. eric: congressman tim ryan joins us, he's a biden campaign surrogate, hello, congressman, are you guys worried? >> good morning. no, not at all, this is -- this is four quarters, iowa is the first quarter, new hampshire is second, nevada is third, south carolina is the fourth quarter to have early primary states and i think those will be viewed in totality and, you know, we will do very well in nevada and in south carolina as well. look, when you go to iowa, two of the key constituencies for joe biden were not participating in the iowa caucus and that's communities of color which iowa is a very white state with very little diversity and older people who vote who won't necessarily take two or 3 hours

on cold winter night at iowa night to go caucus, so that was like joe biden fighting with two arms behind his back, but as the maps change, he's going to consistently do better, pick up steam and we will get the nomination. eric: doesn't he need everybody else to get the nomination and defeat president trump in november? >> he's the key person i think to build the diverse coalition. you know, i represent youngstown, ohio, this is joe biden country, he was instrumental in saving the auto industry, we are looking at two things here in places like ohio, michigan, wisconsin, do you understand what we are going through, the economic insecurity that prescription drug costs, the opioid issue, that's a resounding yes, joe biden understanding that but -- who also understand where is do you need to go, who is going to help us built electric vehicles, build charging stations, i think the person who helped saved the auto industry knows the auto

industry best and can position us for a renaissance here in manufacturing in the industrial midwest, that's joe biden. eric: beyond the midwest, let me tell you what "the new york times" say this is morning, you mentioned the next two contests, south carolina, this is what the times say, another week showing rivals, mr. buttigieg and bloomberg and, the wall street journal wrote this, mr. biden finished fourth in iowa and might be the collateral damage of nancy pelosi's impeachment missile she aimed at mr. trump and hit uncle joe. mr. buttigieg is rising in new hampshire could become the default nonsocialist alternative, are you worried that the democrats are going to be fighting each other and cutting each other up so by the time they get to the convention into the general election they won't be strong enough to face a real challenge to the president?

>> well, this is a conversation the republicans had two or 3 years ago with such a large field, this is the conversation we always have when there's a big primary and we will work through this. i don't think that we can send someone as a nominee that runs under the democratic socialist banner and i think the more we move into some of the other states the more that's going to become apparent that that's not the direction that we want to go in, we know that the globe is in chaos, we know that in spite of what the president says that the economy still isn't working for working-class people and so, you know, that all tilts towards joe biden and when you move, genin to the more diversed states, i just think iowa has gotten way, way too much attention again, joe biden competing in an election where there's no communities of color,

significant communities of color and you will hold him to standard, chiefs to go to super bowl and patrick mahomes aren't allowed to play. eric: that's the way you guys set it up. >> well, that needs to change. there are going to be some -- there are going to be some changes. eric: all right, tim ryan, congressman in ohio, in the midwest, congressman, thank you for joining us, of course. you know he's been surging in recent polls but also fending off some attacks from the rest of the field and man oman are the sharp attacks from the biden commercial and he's addressing concerns about his youth and his low support among african-american voters, you just heard of that from congressman tim ryan, the former mayor pete will be holding a rally later today.

midwest where he was a mayor, i think all of those things combined are getting him a look in new hampshire, you know, maybe that he didn't have before, it's worth remembering, of course, bernie sanders is doing well, he lives 55 miles from new hampshire, so i think mayor pete is doing pretty well for going into the backyard of a candidate like bernie sanders. arthel: well, for a moment let's look past this tuesday, let's look to the south carolina primary, it's in 20 days from now, how are you preparing to energize, engage and embrace people of color in the african-american community as a whole? >> it's tremendously important as a whole. it's large part of election and democratic primary, if you look in iowa, it's about 10% people of color, in the abc inference polls, mayor pete was getting higher support among people of color than vice president joe

biden. arthel: let's talk about south carolina, that's where joe biden will rule most likely. >> if you look in south carolina i think the key is he's coming in without the name recognition that bernie sanders -- arthel: it's not about name recognition, sir, i want to find out for from you in the 2 minutes that i have what is it going that you're going to do to engage the particular community? >> what he's going -- he's going to south carolina, capitalize on momentum coming out of -- arthel: what's your message to them. >> he has an economic plan that will appeal to a lot of people. arthel: okay, you can expound? >> i can expound? sure. the tax relief for workers take back the high-income tax cuts and corporate tax cuts that cost $2 trillion and invest it in health security and tax relief for working people. i think as people get to know him, you'll see in those areas where they already know him, he

has substantial support among all different communities and the question that any nominee is going to have is can they put together a broader coalition than the coalition that they have right now? no one has enough support to be the nominee. arthel: right, it's about trust, i understand, you have a plan that you're going to share, it's also about gaining the trust of the particular voting block.ou , right? >> for establishing trust, sure, they can look at his record as mayor and they can look at the plan on his website or when he goes around, he's optimistic candidate that wants to turn the page and has the best economic program and invite to go look at it for themselves. arthel: we thank you for joining us, i wish we had more time, we have breaking news. >> thank you. arthel: we will talk to you again and good luck to you and your candidate. >> thanks. arthel: and we will be right

united kingdom really wants to be there, but there are some things coming along, we want free trade agreement with the united states, america is the land of opportunity, we want to exploit that to the best possible advantage both uk and the u.s. eric: you talk about some of the bumps, hauwei is one that the reportedly the president had a contentious conversation with your prime minister about that, why did britain decide to go with hauwei and 5g and do you have concerns of national security about the chinese get a hand in the country, i think that's what the u.s. government is worried about? >> we listened very carefully to what the u.s. had to say, we made our own national security assessment. we believe very strongly that we can confine the hauwei investment to those areas of 5g telecom that don't impact national security and we looked at this very thoroughly with relevant agencies and as i say

we believe that we can protect our national security while at the same time delivering consumers especially in rural areas a better service and that's important for the growth of the economy and it's important for social inclusion. eric: do you think they'll be a meeting of minds between london and washington about this? >> i think we will keep talking, that's very important, we recognize america's interest but at the same time i think what -- what's got us to this stage, if you like, is a market failure, you know, how can the west have ended up in a position where the very important services can only be provided by very few providers and one of them is hauwei, so the prime minister is really keen but we talked to the americans about how together we can develop systems for the future that means we diverse fie the suppliers and we are not courting this area again. eric: not only concerns about china but also russia, as we showed at the top very strong

against russia and the carnage, humanitarian catastrophe that's continuing in syria. and it really strikes at your heart because you had the nerve agent attack in your country. >> that's exactly right. eric: by moscow. >> you're right, it's personal for a lot of people in britain given that nerve agent attack, the russians is permanent member of the security council, really ought to be joining the rest of us in upholding all of the universal prohibitions against the use of chemical weapons. instead of which they have condoned use of weapons and even now preventing the international bodies that police the chemical weapons system from doing a proper investigation into syrian stocks. that's sad but pretty despicable. eric: when you get to washington, you met the president, the daily mail that
