♪ [applause] >> is dancing with me. rob: there you have it that's all we have for today. rob: "fox & friends" starts right now. have a good day. brian: here we go straight to a fox news alert. the man accused of shooting two cops in 12 hours charged with attempted murder. surveillance video that you are watching appears to show robert williams opening fire inside of a new york precinct, actually in the bronx. ainsley: just a few hours earlier police say he shot at two officers van in bronx hitting one of the officers in the neck. williams was convicted of attempted murder in 2002. he is due in court today on a separate dwi charge. new york officials now condemning the attack. >> this was an attempt to assassinate police officers. we need to use that word. because it was a premeditated effort to kill and not just to kill other

human beings but to kill those who wear a uniform that represents all of us. steve: the daily mail is reporting this morning that a memo has been sent to new york city police officers warning them and their loved ones against wearing any police-related items any logos or uniforms. we have reached out to the new york city police department. so far they have had no comment. nonetheless, this particular gunman a career criminal says he shot officers because he hates cops where did that come from? ainsley: the president said i grew up in new york city and over many years got to watch how great's nyc's finest are. now because of weak leadership at governor and mayor stand away water thrown at them. regulations and lack of support. our yuferl nyc police are under assault stop this now.

brian: can you believe shoot up it after after tried answer one of his questions. it was a setup considering he was release released in 2017n bail and attempted murder in 2002. and when cops walked up to him he started shooting at the cops. you can't say where did this come from this guy was a time bomb. ainsley: thankfully those officers shot were not killed. steve: they didn't know how many buments were in his gun. he was able to squeeze off a couple of rounds. but then he ran out of bullets. thank goodness. and then he just laid down and they took him prisoner. the sergeant's benevolence association has had it up to here with this anti-cop thing. and they tweeted this out. mayor de blasio, the members of the new york city police department are declaring war on you, mayor. we do not respect you. do not visit us in

hospitals. you sold the new york police department to the vile creatures, the 1% who hate cops but vote for you. new york city police department cops have been assassinated because of you. this isn't over. game on. one of the things that recently happened was they had this down in the subways, because there's a certain number of people in the new york city area who would like to get the coming out of the subway us. so they had this decolonize deplace contest aimed at police-free subways. it was really just full of a lot of language and graffiti and it was clearly a message they were trying to send. we don't need cops in new york city, they were trying to say. ainsley: don't you remember when we were younger when everyone was scared to come to new york or people were really worried about security and about safety. and then rudy giuliani came in and i'm told that he cleaned up times square, that that was like a red light district. he cleaned it up. there aren't as many homeless people any the city there weren't at the time.

he had heart for them. and said to his police officers if you see anyone that's homeless, grab them and let's put them in the shelter. he would ask him to do that one at a time. he was asked to about what is happening in new york and this is what he had to say. >> i don't know how it to say to you that my heart is breaking for the city i worked hard to turn around 24 hours a day. mike bloomberg held it together well. i know a lot of differences with him on running for president. but mike bloomberg kept it safe, which i always appreciated. and this guy is a total disaster. but he is the typical democratic mayor. look at all the cities that are governed by democrats forever and ever. i took over a city that was governed by democrats in democrats forever and forever. two cops attempted assassination in two days. brian: whole broken windows thing smallest crime needs to be followed up on. jump a turnstile detained.

i don't think he has the momentum to carry this to a national election. griff: speaking of momentum, let me catch you up what is happening. sanders with the lead one day to go. and mayor buttigieg trying to close in on him on a surprise surge from amy klobuchar. here is the latest "boston globe" suffolk university poll. sanders 27, buttigieg way up to 14 and warren and biden decide at 12. a comfortable 22 point lead. that's not going to be the case this go around. we will have president trump here just in a few hours, 12 hours i suppose. over my shoulder you see the southern new hampshire university arena. we'll give you a look here. it's snowing still. it's very cold. but we have seen several people walking around. i just met one couple from connecticut who say they braved the cold to drive up here because they want to here what the president has to say, no doubt the president will weigh in on

back of the pack in new hampshire. they worry that bernie and liz are too polarizing and pete doesn't have enough experience. he also has a problem with minorities and women. and so they are looking to bloomberg, because he actually is a billionaire. he has a lot of money. and he could stand up to donald trump on the debate stage. if you watched on friday night, it's all kind of a blur now. you just imagine, okay, donald trump versus any one of those people, what would that show be like? ainsley: well, "saturday night live," it was so funny. i didn't watch the show. i just watched clips of them making fun of the can dassments it's always fun to see who is going to play which candidate and who is going to survive. steve: larry david was back. is he a great bernie sanders. ainsley: did y'all watch the oscars last night? brian: no. real quick on the black vote with the president making legitimate inroads when you look at donations to historic black colleges and unemployment for african-americans. when you look at the

official government document by the way, with those stories and those names on it. ainsley: yeah, charlie, we interviewed somebody last week. his name was jody jones. his brother was killed under the sanctuary policies and he was furious when she did. this he saw her doing that at the end of the speech, he said like my heart, all of our hearts were being ripped out. do you think nancy pelosi regrets it? >> it's tough say. look, if her whole idea was to try to draw attention away from the successful speech, this video that we produced has now been seen 10 million times on social media. here we are almost a week later still talking about this speech. and what i find so amaze something that nancy pelosi tolerated congressman adam schiff literally making up the phone transcript of president trump during the sham impeachment hearing. then she goes after a video with nothing inaccurate at all demanding it be taken down. if anyone has an issue with misleading testimony or something that might be misdirect the american people, she should look within the leadership of her

own party especially during last. we have. i don't know if she feels bad or not, but the american people, republican and democrat that i talk to when i travel the country, they were outraged by what she did by tearing that speech up. ainsley: some of my democratic friends were too, actually. we were talking about it over the weekend. we did hear from twitter. we reached out personally, they didn't comment back to fox news. but they did post this about that video. they said we won't begin labeling or enforcement action until march 5th, 2020. so i can't get into hypotheticals. the new rules won't attach a label that reads manipulated media on material that is heavily edited. so eventually, if this were released in the middle of march it would have that label ton but they still wouldn't take it down. what do you say to the critics who do say hey it's not exactly how it happened? >> well, look what about package reels put together on the campaign trail. if we can't put together something that somebody said

so anti-capitalist. i think they should be going the other way. brian: vilifying rich people. i didn't think that happened in this country until recently where it's very easy to just vilify billionaires. you can't say millionaires anymore. it turns out the socialist is a millionaire. here is a quote from him, too. this wealth tax would only apply to net worth of over 32 million and raise an estimated 4.35 trillion over the next decade. under this plan the wealth of billionaires would be cut in half over 15 years substantially break up the concentration of wealth and power of the small privileged class. he went on to say billionaires should not exist. what's your reaction to that as a billionaire? >> well, i would be afraid of taking away incentive away from people. i mean, people become billionaires because they usually have accomplished something very significant or something great. for example, my company paychecks we process the payroll and provide human resources for 170,000

companies in the united states of america. we have been very successful as a public company. our stock has been in high demand over the years. we have a market capitalization of $32 billion. we have created 15,500 jobs. and we provide these very important services to employers. so how can you knock somebody or an organization that does that type of thing? brian: i can't. because rich people hire people. they give them benefits and give other people an opportunity to follow in your footsteps. and that's part of your book "built, not born." this was out tomorrow. access guide for entrepreneurs. tom, did anyone give you anything? >> not that i remember. i think i used alfred state tech as a two year college i went to back in the early 1960s. it was tuition-free i will admit that generally speaking, nobody gave me very much at all. it took me four years to get

mayor should have known it. steve: joe, this makes your job harder. >> we are coming up on the one year anniversary an officer shot and killed responding to a robbery in progress. this all happened because of the pro-criminal and anti-police sentiment that a lot of politicians have come up with. we see all these protests around the city, it's not just protests it's people screaming and chanting for cops to be killed and injured and people out there that are deranged that take it to heart. we saw what happened. somebody took it seriously and wanted to go out there and kill cops because they think it's okay with what's going on with the city and it's not. steve: dr. porcher, we were talking at the up to of the program how not long ago there was a test down in the subways to decolonize the police officers. get the cops out of subways completely but really there is a lot of graffiti and a lot of inappropriate language being used toward the police officers. and then you couple that with last summer we had all these police officers assaulted with th budget full of

hollywood as a result. steve: bernie, it's too common these days when a police officer is trying to make an arrest here in new york city or elsewhere to be surrounded by angry name-calling crowd. and that's why one of the reasons why right now here in new york city the police use of force is at an all-time low. nobody wants to wind up having a video, a cell cam video of them doing something that might lose them their job. >> it's worse than that nobody wants to do their job and not be indemnified and supported by the mayor. and we have seen in this city, especially with garner and some of the other incidents where the mayor himself does not support the men and women under his command. so, the cops think about those cameras. they think about what's going on in their profession. what they have to do. and are they going to put their lives on the line? are they going to put their families on the line? are they going to put their home on the line because the city, the mayor of the department will not back you when do you your job.

you know. it's a rough time to be a cop and we are seeing this in new york city. we are seeing it around the rest of the country. steve: joe, you are active duty. you put on the uniform every day. what goes through your mind? do you start your day wondering is today the day i lose my job? >> i stay all the time other than the military. i don't think there is a job -- there is a real chance i may not come home at the end of the day. there needs to be a fine line between fear and respect. and the two gentlemen over here going through the decades and the different styles of policing. when something would happen, police would go there and make a statement that they weren't going to have someone go out there and bully the cops. do a robbery. you would have the cavalry go out there in a respectful manner. you would make the arrest and get the people off the street that shouldn't be there. when you keep these individuals like this gentleman who had several priors. one for mom side in the past got locked up for. keep throwing them in the street. bad people are going to continue to do bad things. if they are not there in the street they can't go out there and injure anybody, especially police officers.

and it's such scary stuff. we have reached out to the nypd. they had no comment. this is where it has come to in this city it. comes after a violent weekend against police. robert williams seen here. now charged with attempted murder after attacking several officers over the weekend. new video, this morning, you can see here, shows williams opening fire in a bronx police precincts on sunday where he shot a lieutenant in the arm and nearly shot other personnel that you can see in a panic just trying to get away from the surprise gunfire. just a few hours earlier on saturday night. williams allegedly shot at two police officers sitting inside of a patrol van also in the bronx. hitting one officer in the neck and thankfully that officer was discharged from the hospital on sunday. can you see here in front of a cheering crowd. a very powerful moment as new york city leaders then condemned these attacks. >> this was an attempt to assassinate police officers. we need to use that word. because it was a premeditated effort to kill

anything like this. you know, i brought this up this weekend. and i want to make this point crystal clear. there has always been street crime. there has always been violence against police. steve: right. >> there was never during my time there nor any subsequent time later when i was a secret service agent working with the nypd where i remember seriously conversations being had in rooms in the police precincts of the nypd about potentially being assistanteassassinatedwhile goi. what kind of atmosphere? what is going on. who is pulling the thread of this society we weaved together? who is pulling at it? these are serious questions we need to be asking. why is it happening in these places where you see political leaders using cops as a political football and beating up on them all the time? is this not a serious question worth gaining? there is a thin line between chaos and sizzles. everybody knows that. that's not hyperbolic to say that who mans that line? our cops. you want to make them a political punching bag?

time to open our eyes. it's a serious, serious problem. steve: apparently that suggestion not to wear the uniform was put out by the chief of the department of corrections. ainsley: wow. don't you remember four years ago, dan, we were all in the convention. covering the conventions in philadelphia, and one of the cops told us he takes off his uniform before he goes home because he stunt want to be a target. we were all shocked by that now the whole department is being told by this corrections officer not to wear your uniform. that's where we are at this point in time. who is to blame for this? how do we fix it. >> you know, listen, you have this problem with largely liberal politicians. and i want to be careful here. i don't want to do what liberals do. i'm not stigmatizing all democrats. at love elected democrats and democrats who vote in the country who love our cops. i know that because i know a lot of them. this problem of making the cops a political punching bag, this is almost exclusively a problem with the radical left. that -- just do a basic internet search and you are going to see it.

it's a two fold problem. very simple to figure out. liberals, get your blinders off and listen for a minute. when you make the cops political ire. ridiculously so. can you get a few points in your poll. start beating up on the cops. shocker. a lot of people look up to you if you are a political leader are going to adopt that and become anti-cop themselves. number two, when you live in a liberal city run by a former communist mayor like bill de blasio makes it easier to be a criminal. guess what? guys, you get more criminals. not going to be hard. if you are going to give criminals mets tickets to go sit in games you will get more cops. i was a cop in the giuliani era. it really sucked to be a criminal. if you got caught in the corner peeing in the street, i'm not kidding. do you know what happened if you had a warrant you went to jail for the whole weekend. a lot fewer people were out there doing their business in the street.
