[cheers and applause] and because you are in our fox news world headquarters we have a feeling y'all love the news, right? so let's talk about the story in the news today. of course yesterday we were talking about roger stone and it was the sentencing guidelines from the department of justice initially was 7 to 9 years. the president heard about that on last tuesday, this past tuesday, and said that's way too much. a.g. barr sat down last night with justice correspondent pierre thomas of abc.
3:04 am
and it's really interesting because he tells the whole story. because the way it looks to a lot of people is that a.g. barr caved to the president's tweets. but when you listen to the attorney general himself, he had already made up his mind that the u.s. attorney from d.c., the 7 to 9 years too much. he was going to clarify his position but then the president came out, listen to the attorney general and that is going to probably change your view of what has been said. >> the team very much wanted to recommend the 7 to 9 year to the judge. and but he thought that there was a way of satisfying everybody and providing more flexibility and there was a brief discussion of that i was under the impression that what was going to happen was very much that i had suggested which was deferring to the judge and then pointing out various factors and circumstances.
3:05 am
when i first saw the news reports. i said gee, the news is spinning. this this is not what we were going to do. >> so you were surprised. >> i was very surprised. once i confirmed that that's actually what we filed. i said that night to my staff that we had to get ready because we had to do something in the morning to amend that and clarify what our position was. i had made a decision that i thought was fair and reasonable in this particular case. and once the tweet occurred, the question is well, now what do i do? and do you go forward with what you think is the right decision or do you pull back because of the tweet? and that just sort of its how disruptive these tweets can be. ainsley: the president, he said, he isn't bothered. he isn't deterred. stephanie grisham said he has the rights to his opinions. i see both sides of this. roger stone, went out on a limb for him and worked for him. steve: for the president. ainsley: he saw injustice.
3:06 am
he is allowed to do that he is the commander-in-chief. he is allowed to point that out. i understand the other side too where bill barr is put in a position where it looks like the president tweeted out and then they are going to go back and review the case and makes him look like he can't do his job. brian: two things the president has ton to make the attorney general's job more i did. one bringing up his name on the phone call in the ukraine with the ukrainian leader. barr said that was not helpful. he did not want his name brought up there because he wasn't involved with it. the first time he heard it was when the transcript was released. he also went on to say the president's tweets make it impossible to do my job. so, that is somebody who is extremely loyal to the president. coming out and saying, mr. president, go ahead, go after bloomberg. have a field day with klobuchar. but when it comes to legal stuff, it really gets complicated because the president really has no experience with having a justice department when he was running the trump organization. so it gets much more complicated than when you voice your opinion on an
