major night of fundraising in florida saturday night. as we watch the sunday shows today, he and attorney barr are getting a lot of criticism from democrats. in palm beach. a whole lot of politics. hi, mark. >> hi, leland. good afternoon. the president did have some fundraisers. $10 million to his reelection warchest. at this hour, the president is no longer in west palm beach, he is making his way to daytona. serving as the grand marshal to this year's race. we want to show you video as they left just a little while ago to make their way up to daytona. you will notice that the president and first lady will be using the presidential limo sometimes known as the beast on the racetrack. he will not be staying in daytona very long. speaking of d.c., the controversy surrounding attorney

general bar, he remains front and center. several calling for bill barr to step down after the justice department overruled prosecutors handling the case against roger stone. >> bar should resign. he should leave and he should leave right now. congress should use every tool that we have, we don't have many, but let's use what we've got to try to get him out of there. >> bar has made it clear he won't be swayed by the outside opinions about his work at the justice department. he did make some news after he criticized president trump for his comments and tweets when it comes to cases that the justice department is dealing with when it comes to political ties. a senior advisor to the president said the president has every right to speak up. >> and he expresses himself, cuts out the middleman, i know the middleman do not like that, he tells everybody what he thinks on a number of issues.

>> some form or just officials appear to be speaking to protect democracy. it's collected signatures saying that they want barr to resign. i've seen video of air force one. leland: we will take it back here in the studio for a minute. live pictures of air force one flying over the daytona 500 you can see them making a left bank here. a couple hundred thousand people there over the race tracks. the president coming in on air force one. he will land and then as mark was mentioning, motorcade over to the race track and the beast which is the presidential limo will make a lap on the track. >> i've a feeling this will be a fun day for the president. warmly received by the crowd at nascar. not every sporting event, but it seems today will be a good one for the president.

looking forward to getting on the ground and soaking up the ambience. just hovering in the air. imagine the view from up there. >> they did it at the army navy game. air force one took a lap over the stadium. if you talk to people in the white house, they will say that this is some of the most fun the president has. the runway is not too far away from there in daytona beach. the president, they say, as some of the most fun at these events. this is what he loves. he goes to a lot of events. daytona, national college football, lsu versus clemson. took a big congressional delegation there. he's gone to the world series. he's gone to the super bowl at one time. these are things. molly: a little catch error in the corner between the trees. you can see the plane. phil keating was talking about

how low they would actually fly when they went over the stadium. incredible. i'm sure people had a great deal. this is one of the president he crowds. he has shown a pretty big affinity for nascar. the ceo, brian france, in recent years, some of the famous drivers have endorsed him when he was running for president in 2016. i think you are right. i think it will be a fun day. has air force one actually landed there? we just lost the shot. >> the airport is right behind the freeway. they will land there. only a couple minute drive. they will shut down a number of the roads and asked a couple minute drive speed to one of the nice things about being a president. leland: we will check back in. the president taking a lap around in the beast. he will visit pit row. then make the proclamation for gentlemen, start your engines. molly: so many unanswered

questions. we will see. leland: how much training the secret service did for that. we will move on. molly: trump administration defending the decision to deploy tactical border control units and sanctuary cities and its efforts to crack down on undocumented migrants despite pushback from local officials in those areas. we have molly who has more on this move and what some of the key agency heads are saying. >> they say they have no choice. they don't get to pick and choose which laws to enforce. they need help tracking immigrants who are here illegally and living in sanctuary cities and some u.s. cities. that is why the trump administration ascending some of the most elite, highly trained, border tactical or board tact agents from the border to the sanctuary cities. >> we will continue to safely enforce the immigration laws of this country. we will do professionally. we will do it with compassion. we will do it. we have no other choice.

there is no others being asked to ignore a order from a federal judge. that is what some of these politicians are asking us to do. >> president trump has said it's dangerous for law-abiding citizens because enjoy cities protect illegal immigrants. the president said last week that "not one more american life should be stolen by century cities." here are some of the sanctuary cities where some of those only border agents reportedly will be helping officials from boston, new york and chicago to atlanta, san francisco and los angeles. some members of congress a "no clear justification for this escalation of immigration enforcement". in a letter to the department of home and security, representatives including massachusetts democrat, new york democrat alexandria cortez and michigan democrat writes "our communities are not war zones. we demand that you reverse course and immediately withdraw board tact in any other recently

deployed cbd officers from our streets and neighborhoods." they also want to know how many agents have or will be sent to which cities, for how long and what they're exactly will allowed to do. molly. molly: thank you very much. we are now getting word that the president is safely on the ground there at daytona. just ahead of his appearance there at the daytona 500 before the fans. acting as grand marshal. we are expecting the final roll up as they come to a soft stop here and a couple moments. the first lady as well expected to be there. as part of all the excitement today. leland: the president will be on the ground for a couple hours before he heads back to washington. unclear if the president will make any remarks when he hops off air force one. the presidential travel pool of reporters that is with him, it normally sets up for when he comes off air force one, sometimes he makes a couple remarks here and there so we will monitor that as it happens.

we will bring in chad, formerly the chief of staff at dhs and an expert on how these events are run. you are thinking about the daytona 500. you have 200,000 people there. it is a very different environment to try and secure the race as it is and then add to it the president coming into town. how does that change things? >> a great example of why dhs was created. if you think about it, before dhs existed, 23 different agencies with all their capabilities were not coordinated. a football team without a quarterback. now when they have special high-security events like this, they can bring in capabilities from all over the government including, you know, bomb dogs from i.c.e., metal detectors from tsa, secret service collaborates with local law enforcement. such an important event that no single entity in the state can handle alone. leland: we talked about super bowls and other big events.

how much different is that for the fans, shall we say, and their experience in coming to a normal, big, american event like the super bowl versus that in the president and. >> what has been great is, the way i like to describe it is, it's almost like the invisible hand of security. the president is there and behind-the-scenes, if they do their job right, most of the fans will not notice a heightened level of security, but i can assure you behind-the-scenes whatever potus, there is a tremendous amount of what they call envelope of security on the air and on the ground. it's in with local and state law enforcement. leland: if you are the secret service agent in charge of driving the presidential beast, which we will see drive up to air force one, it is one thing to drive the president, another thing to drive the president around the daytona track. >> rumors and they will try to push it up to over 100 miles an

hour. that thing weighs, it is heavy as it is because it is bulletproof, i can only imagine the pressure on this driver. his career is on the line. leland: no kidding. it was he going to pass. it's interesting. we will talk about the beast. it is actually a pickup truck with a car chassis on top of it. a chevy 2500 or something like that. stairs moving up to air force one right now. as we are talking about this, the fans that are there who get to see the president and experienced this, george w. bush did it in 2004, they have been there for a while now. have they locked down everything in and around the, what do you call it, not the stadium, the race track. >> exactly. all the fans there will be locked down. they've already gone through magnetometers. when i talk about this invisible envelope of security, you will

see drones in the air that are basically monitoring for any kind of possible threat against the president and then on the ground a huge number of sensors, a lot going on in terms of social media monitoring as well. right now, believe it or not, this track is probably one of the safest places on the planet right now. leland: you would think that as we watch the stairs up to air force one, see if the president matches his anything when he comes down. he will drive over to the racetrack you'd he will use hundred is a meet and greets, walked pit row, perhaps, then he will take a lap around the track before the race starts. somewhere in the eight-10 minute range. then, gentlemen, start your engines and then the race begins. he is not the only president that has ever been there. president reagan did it a little

bit differently. gentlemen, start your engines while flying on air force one and then he showed up for the race for the final lap. >> the first to actually do a lap. i don't think any other president has done that. leland: bring in phil keating who was on the ground outside the speedway in daytona. phil, as we have been discussing, this is the president proud. are they excited for the race or more excited for the president? >> we heard phil's producer yell standby. there is phil. phil, can you hear us? >> i hear you. everyone is excited about the race. daytona beach is biggest day of the year. the daytona 500. never before has air force one, right behind me, at the racetrack, low-level 800 feet off the ground flyover right through the crowd. nearly 200,000 people that are

inside, counting the fans in enfield, they all had their camera phones up on camera mode recording that appeared certainly a once-in-a-lifetime shot. the plane then did a big loop around so it could land into the wind, which is really picked up in the last hour or so and landed at the daytona international airport which is just adjacent to the speedway. pretty shortly here, the president and first lady, possibly his son and son-in-law jared kushner will make their way over to the racetrack. it is they are that president will enter as the grand marshal of this year's 62nd running of the daytona 500. he will give remarks for about seven minutes to the crowd. not sure what he will say yeah. he will then check out some racecars. the race starts at 2:30 p.m. eastern airing on fox. the president and first lady will have time. and then the white house says

the beast, the heavily armored vehicle that the president always rides around in, they will drive around the high banked turns of this race track. maybe hitting speeds of 100 miles per hour you'd just under that. of course the racecars go 200, just under that. pretty impressive for such a heavily armored vehicle. the president and first lady will watch part of the race from one of the suites upstairs. not too long after that, they will end up going back to the airport, hopping on air force one and flying back to washington. he had a weekend down in palm beach. he got yesterday. i don't believe he golfed today. tomorrow is presidents' day. it certainly feels like a presidents day. fowler yesterday and then today he will be with all the drivers there at daytona race track. i am interested, phil, as you talk to folks outside the racetrack, a polarizing figure, have you talked to folks that have brought politics into this? this is florida. we are in an election year. you are never far away from that. >> the primary is next month here in florida. of course, president trump would be the only one on the republican ballot i guess william from massachusetts may also be on it. there is a big rv down the street right here on international boulevard. it is completely decked out in trump 2020 gear. they are registering voters this morning. widely believed that the nascar nation is pretty much a trump crowd. we've seen a lot of make america great again had speared it was awesome to see air force flyover

there it is. there it is. there is the president. i am sure the crowd will eat it up. i would imagine, the roars of 100,000 people in the stands plus another 100,000 in the infield. some of whom have been here all week long just parting it up. they will probably give lots of cheering to the president. leland: the old joke, phil, as you know, and an election year, air force one makes a lot of noise when it comes to town. the noise of air force one will be dwarf by the noise of the cars going around the track at daytona. >> -- leland: go ahead, fill. >> even though we are on the outside of the track, those are all the stands behind me. i am imagining it will be so loud. difficult to hear you guys talking to me once a race gets underway. molly: it is going to be

exciting. we are keeping an eye on the door of air force one waiting for the president and first lady to disembark and head down the stairs. wondering if they will say a few words before they head into the stadium. seven minutes or so of talking that the president is expected to do before the warmly receiving crowd on the ground. it will be interesting to see what he says. it is an election year. a chance to talk with a pretty friendly crowd. a lot of folks from florida interested in talking about that boat right around the corner as you mentioned next month. really an opportunity for the president today. leland: his home state of florida. he has moved his residency down to florida. a swing state. phil is based in miami. as you have gone around and talked to folks there, is the support for president trump fairly similar to what we saw in 2016 in florida?

>> i would imagine. yeah, you know, he beat hillary clinton, but it was close. 1.2% of a margin for victory for president trump. the democrats trying to make it their number one goal to make sure president trump does not get reelected. it will be interesting to see how the factor of him changing his primary address to palm beach, florida, will impact the electorates here in the state of florida. we have a republican governor, to republican senators, republican legislature controlled the house and the senate in tallahassee. more and more, florida decides a republican state. a swing state one of the most highly fought after state every election cycle second tuesday ohio, pennsylvania and michigan.

it could make or break your campaign. political analysts have said for months that if trump does not win florida in november, he may have a very adult likelihood of being reelected. the money will be pouring again. all the candidates i expect will be coming into florida right after super tuesday. leland: we have seen the president and his team show up in states right before the primary of that state. obviously, he was in iowa and sent a huge group of republican surrogates out there for the caucus. in new hampshire a couple days before the new hampshire primary we will keep an eye on the door of air force one. a little better shot of air force one flying over at about 800 feet flying over the speedway. this coming from the pool. we've seen the president do this with air force one a couple times. the army navy game he's gone to a couple times. a couple other events. it does go to the idea that

president trump, and he will talk about this, as sort of his own best producer in communications director and the grand big presidential moments that in an election year are in valuably politically helpful. if you think about it, whoever will take on president trump, november is out in nevada working the ground and trying to get through the primary getting bruised and bloodied by all their opponents. here is the president enjoying an unbelievable amount of coverage on a sunday flying over and revving up, pun intended, his fan base and supporters at a place like the daytona 500. molly: first republican resident to court this mass -- nascar crowd. george w. bush attended a july 4 race. ronald reagan also attending that july 4 race.

now the president and first lady disembarking. a windy day down there at the daytona hundred. heading over for the race to the speedway. get the real festivities going. we will see if he stops and talks. does not look like it. the beast is right there waiting. perhaps he will be in it quickly. spending a little extra time. it will be fascinating to see if they do get it up to 100 miles an hour or more. >> of all the drivers, how they decide which one gets to drive around the track? most the time the beast is driving around 40, 50, 60 miles an hour. molly: i want to do it. of course you do. it is going to be a great day. leland: the president just on the other side of the car talking to whoever the greeting committee is on the ground. we will see the first lady walk

back over and get into the other side and then take off. as phil mentioned, only a couple minutes from the airport over the racetrack. they are basically next to each other there in daytona. we should hear from the president probably in the early 2:00 o'clock hour. molly: the man behind the wheel. will that be the guy that gets to drive the speedway? the racecourse? the first lady coming around. a quick wave to the camera before she hops in. leland: there she is. without possibly we would see a couple more members of the first family. reports of them on the way off of the plane. we will wait for that. the president will be on the ground for a couple of hours. watch a little bit of the race, as phil mentioned, after he has talked. after making his way around the track. molly: a race in a race in a race. fascinating to hear what he has two say. big important words all about

the grand marshall. >> in the past couple of times the president has gone to events, think the army navy game, he went to visit the army team in the locker room. we heard what he had to say there. it was pretty quick. certainly not political. congratulations, gentlemen. good luck. went over to the other locker room and said basically the same thing. i think that is the air force thunderbirds they are driving past. f-16s of the air force thunderbirds. they may have done a little air show at some point in daytona. we've never really seen him go give a speech as it was involved in one of these events. that will be a note where they moment in terms of what he has to say. does it become decidedly political, is that more about the race, why he loves florida, some of the things happening right now in the world to this crowd. the race is supposed to start at 230. whether or not that happens right on time or not will depend a little bit in terms of whether the president goes on and how

♪ leland: welcome back. just about an hour away from the daytona 500 tiered the president telling the drivers to start their engines. molly: making his way to the track right now. phil keating is there on-site. tracking all of this prerace excitement. phil. >> hi, molly. good afternoon to you, leland. the president and first lady left air force one in the beast about five minutes or so ago. the plane landed 20 minutes ago. once they get inside the track, looking around at some of the racecars, maybe some of the drivers. having a really cool vip look. the president will make seven minutes worth of remarks to the crowd and then, of course, as rand marshall of this year's daytona 500, right around

2:29 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. eastern time, he will say what everyone has wanted to say since being a little kid, gentlemen, start your engines. the flyover of air force one was very impressive. only about 800 feet off the ground. everyone outside and inside the racetrack, about 200,000 people in there, undoubtably had their cameras up recording the video because rarely do you see air force one and rarely do you see at that low of an altitude. that was pretty cool. the gates open at 9:00 a.m. and the crowd of race fans has been growing walking into the racetrack ever since. one big supporter, right along speedway boulevard, revving up reelection support which is thought to be quite heavy among this nascar crowd. they also have a channel set up to register voters for next month's florida primary and the general election in november. people have been walking around and into the speedway up to five hours before the actual race

time of 2:30 p.m. eastern which airs on fox. people got here at 9:00 o'clock in the morning, 10:00 o'clock in the morning and the tailgating has already begun. people making food, breakfast on the grills. consuming tallboy after tallboy. you know what they say, at the racetrack yesterday, the race happened here, at least five crosses at high speeds yesterday. there were a bunch of car crashes and a race broke out. there will be one extra driver. it will be driver number 41 here. it is the beast. president trump and the first lady will be inside the beast as presumably one of his expert drivers drives that beast all the way around the track on daytona's famous high banked turns. they will try to get as close to 100 miles per hour, half the speed of the racecars, these nascar race car drivers go,

close to 200 miles. 500 miles. forty drivers involved. the president grand marshall and the crowd expected to pretty much eat him up and take on the volume of applause and cheers. the president will probably eat it up as well. molly: impressive to see what these drivers do. science behind the cars. fascinating. interesting to see how fast the beast goes when everything gets rolling. >> 40 drivers plus one very excited secret service agent. you say everybody has dreamed of saying gentlemen, start your engine. you did that as though you been practicing. it sounded pretty good. >> i have been rehearsing. maybe i can do it next year. leland: jj watts did it last year in 2019 and george w. bush was there in 2004. back to terms of the reception,

this is undoubtably a president trump friendly, shall we say, crowd they are at daytona beach, at the speedway, and the nascar crowd in general, how much is his campaign trying to capitalize on this in terms of any merchandise sales, supporters out there trying to get people to register to vote, et cetera, et cetera. molly: somebody is capitalizing on it. >> yeah. every trump rally, multiple vans and tables selling trump gear and make america great again had speared we just saw few people walking by with big trump flags. quite a few red make america great again hats on the heads of these nascar fans. for the president, this is great free publicity as you just mentioning, leland. not only is the race and trump's appearance at the race and a four question interview with fox

sports all going to be broadcast this afternoon on national tv. great free publicity for the president. florida is a critical state for him or the democratic nominee in order to get to the white house. the president is here today. the biggest event of the year in daytona beach. a big event nationwide. especially amongst all the nascar fans. there are a lot of them. it is expected that this crowd will be giving a full throated endorsement of the president. not saying every nascar fan is an automatic trump motor, but conventional wisdom is that they, there are a lot of trump voters in the crowd. leland: he is therefore reason. a slightly different reception when he showed up at the world series game here in d.c. back in november. phil keating is outside the racetrack. obviously, we have some crews inside the truck ready to take over as the president comes out

either from the beast or to make remarks, come back to you phil as it happens. thank you, sir. molly: just stepping away from the racetrack for a couple moments. a new first coming in the college admissions scandal. a chinese foreign national will plead guilty later on this week for allegedly paying a $100,000 bribe to get her son into ucla as a soccer recruit with a 25% scholarship. despite the fact that he did not play that sport competitively. here to talk about the pretty unique case and what is next for some of the parents wrapped up in this scandal is partner and informant and former assistant u.s. attorney alex liddell. thank you for being here. we may break away and head back to the daytona 500 in a moment. getting started with the chinese national that will be there, does this speak to the international effect and involvement in the college admissions scandal?

>> i think it says 102 things. the types of parents trying to get there kids into school, trying to get their kids into american schools. it is not a surprise some of these things come from out side of the country. the people -- they knew about these parents. they try to find a legal money anywhere. that is one thing that is happened here. also chose the department of justice is willing to indict people outside the country, jump through the hoops to get them extradited to the united states. that is not a small thing. it shows how serious they are. molly: facing all those extra challenges. i have the plea agreement because there was a plea agreement with the prosecutors. they are calling for an incarceration for a period of time served because she has actually been held in a spanish jail all this time. give us your thoughts given the fact we have seen some of these parents facing six months, nine

months. >> the prosecutors know it is a difficult thing to extradite someone to the united states and they may lose. they may lose the extradition battle. they get a guilty plea. she has done some time waiting for this to happen. it is probably a pretty reasonable outcome for her case. molly: another piece of evidence also revealed here recently. the application of lori loughlin's, one of her daughters -- when you see this document, it speaks to a bunch of races that prosecutors argued this young lady never participated in from winning gold medals, silver medals, crew classic, your thoughts on the extent of the alleged effort that went into fake these applications as prosecutors allege. >> for viewers that have not seen us, and a whole resume that lays out a bunch of races she did not do. anybody that had a connection could have determined she did

not actually participate in. it just shows no due diligence being done at the admissions office to check these things which allow this whole legal scheme to happen. what is interesting though is lori loughlin and her husband say they never saw this document. they never know what happens. their defense is predicated on we just gave some money, we did not know what was going on behind the scenes to create these documents. >> one of the fascinating things, you mentioned due diligence, they cast a woman at the university, one of the administrators there looking into this and she allegedly, according to prosecutors, already working as the mastermind of this scheme. i am being told we are running out of time. i was going to ask about the trials upcoming. we don't have time. i will stay at this point in time the judge is hoping to get the first group of defendants in this case of which lori loughlin and her husband are expected, the judge would like to see in october. alex liddell, thank you so much for joining us today.

[laughter] >> do you feel like it's a from the competition between you two? >> absolutely. he knows it and definitely every time we get on the racetrack we are going for it as hard as we can. sometimes i cross that line too much. get too aggressive. how are you feeling about your chances today?

it is just a matter of taking it to the end. it's been a long week. just a chance. >> lots of expectations for those kids. the best rookie season possibly ever in the history of nascar. drivers such as those guys. we also got a chance to talk with richard and his grandson austin who won here in 2018. talk to richard about what it's like to have your grandson driving in the race that he raced in so long ago. take a listen to what he has to say. >> it is great. it is a family sport. family sport in the grandstands. to have my grandson and my other grandson, it is amazing to see the success they have had in the future that they can do in this sport. >> you have not been racing here that long. this is the sixth year. i think i talk to you on your rookie season. a couple years later you win this race which is really pretty young to do that.
