tv   The Ingraham Angle  FOX News  February 27, 2020 7:00pm-8:00pm PST

7:00 pm
extremely frustrated now with the fact that right now there isn't any evidence whatsoever that a grand jury has been convened. i know for us -- thank you so much. >> let not your heart be troubled. laura ingraham is one studio over. >> laura: i thought you were walking through the door. >> you want me to walk through the door? >> laura: they have the door open like you are some -- they have a door open like he is the king coming through. >> the king is coming through, is that right? >> laura: they acted it. now i am sitting and you aren't coming. this is embarrassing. >> they have me wired up here. >> laura: this is -- this is live television. you know now there is no tape. >> no script. >> laura: do you have a microphone? >> i'll all mic'd up.
7:01 pm
>> laura: nice interview with the vice president? >> the adult was in charge. the sad thing is here, we have led the world in cures and treatments and israel is on the brink. they think of a vaccine. the company in massachusetts. and i'm watching and listening -- >> laura: it's sickening with the left. this is a what they talk about. what else will they talk about? >> they can't run on anything they've done. they hated trump for three years. president trump did something they wouldn't have liked. now we'll quarantine you. they don't want to close the borders. cut off people coming from countries that did have a lot of coronavirus. he did this in january. the national emergency right away. and it's like they don't care. mark made a great point tonight. what has the senate been doing with two weeks? >> laura: wasting time, energy and focus on things hurting
7:02 pm
the country and false and corrosive in the constitution. we know what they were doing. it wasn't keeping the country safe or asking good questions about the coronavirus. this is all very recent their concern. >> listen, you are all over it. now, should every american need to be concerned? of course we do. about all of it. >> laura: well, if there have to be changes made in the way we're doing things, this task force is going to do that. if there are processes in place in government where they have to be changed to deal with this type of crisis, they will deal with it. it might be that some things have to change the way we have structured our response. that's fine. >> i'm hoping our scientists do what they always do and israel and the world helps us. we'll do what we always do, share what we discover with the world. >> laura: thanks for coming to the swamp. >> by the way, yes, i'm in jeans, yeah, i have sneakers on. >> laura: sean, when he was a working class kid had high top
7:03 pm
keds. now he has a european brand. you used to be blue collar. >> levi's jeans. >> laura: you are outed on the sneakers. i got to go. great to see you. i'm laura ingraham the "the ingraham angle" from washington governor mike huckabee and others responses to the fear mongering over the coronavirus. why trump's america first policies actually help during a global pandemic. cornell west has become one of bernie sanders most visible surrogates. i take on his candidates struggle with black voters.
7:04 pm
residents in philly are learning what happens to communities when george soros pumps money into them. an "the ingraham angle" expo say later on. first the left goes viral. that's the focus of tonight's angle. the latest report fears about the coronavirus continue to dominate global media, not a surprise. white house coronavirus task forces added debbie burks who will report directly to the vice president. 600 people are voluntarily isolating themselves in massachusetts after they traveled to china. smart move. australia with only 23 people infected, 15 already released from the hospital announced an emergency outbreak plan that includes designating stadiums for mass quarantines. most people here think it's ridiculous and not necessary forcing at-risk towns and cities to get vaccinated if one should be developed. stores online, retailers are
7:05 pm
running low on n95 masks. even surgical gloves. 47 countries have reported deaths. the death toll is over 2800. italy remains the hardest hit in europe with 650 people infected. in italy 17 deaths. saudi arabia has closed its two holiest shrines to all foreigners. and the u.s. stock market we know what happened today took other nose day. the largest single day drop in history for the dow. >> coronavirus fears are sending stocks tumbling today. the dow losing almost 1200 points. the dow and s and p on track for the worst week since the 2008 financial crisis. >> not something to be taken lightly. a lot of traders watch for it. >> laura: the president's newly -- pence sought to reassure the country the administration is being pro-active. >> we'll continue to bring the full resources of the federal government to bear to protect the american people.
7:06 pm
we're all in this together. this is not the time for partisanship. this president will always put the health and safety of america first. >> laura: even before he spoke, the usual suspects continued to launch their wildly unfair and deceitful smear campaign against the president and team of professionals on his emergency response team. hear are the five biggest lies. lie number one. vp pence isn't qualified to manage coronavirus task force. >> i expressed to him the concern that i had of his being in this position when he was governor of indiana slashing the public health budget and having some clinics especially planned parenthood. >> he struggled to cope with a public health crisis on h.i.v. by delaying needle exchanges. >> deep government policy related to health or the signs.
7:07 pm
>> like giving children crayons to write in a coloring book. >> laura: bill weld has so much credibility. these attacks are so pathetic they're not worth dig any filing with a response. they really hate the fact that mike pence is pro-life. that he doesn't believe in enabling drug users, that is a not a liberal. because all those liberal governors are doing such a great job with their states' crises. lie number two. the response hampered by trump budget cuts. >> he tried to cut back on the cdc. defunded centers for disease control, cdc so we don't have the organization we need. >> we increased the budget of the cdc, the president today has wiped that all out. >> laura: so wrong that even the associated press had to call it out reporting the national institutes of health and cdc aren't suffering from budget cuts. financing has increased. here is a little lesson for my
7:08 pm
liberal friends. congress, not the executive branch, has the power of the purse. they can always appropriate more money, go to the president and say we need more money and work out the budget between the two branches. that's how it usually works. lie number three. president trump is anti-science. >> this administration has a war on science often for political reasons and gutted expertise. >> i believe in not silencing health professionals. >> they have not taken the advice of scientists in their own administration. >> we all know that president trump in the course of his service has disrespected science and scientists. >> laura: now going back to climate change. i love these attacks how trump is anti-science from people who won't acknowledge when life begins. and who say they are like 24 genders. spare us the lectures. of course trump made it clear yesterday he has trust in his
7:09 pm
professionals inside his working group. does anyone think if he doesn't think changes should be made along the way he won't make them? you bet he'll make them. lie number 4. trump only cares about covid-19 because he cares about the stokt mark. >> the president is more concerned about the impact on the stock market. >> what has jolted him into action is what happened with the stock market. >> the most dangerous thing is trying to happy talk a national health emergency because you are worried about the stock market. >> laura: i would like to direct their attention to the white house announcing the creation of the virus task force in january and bipartisan briefings have been happening for weeks and weeks with officials from the hhs and the cdc. i don't think that the public wants a potential health crisis politicized, do you? perhaps after this week's reprehensible finger pointing cooler heads may prevail? >> look, the president said to
7:10 pm
me look, i want you the reach out to the republican and democrat leadership because we want to push politics aside. we want to make sure we get the resources that we need to respond to this to make sure the cdc, all of our agencies have the support that they need. >> laura: our political leaders need to know that we're prepared and calm in dealing with whatever comes next. the president's task force is taking this threat seriously and they understand the need for full transparency. calm down, we have not had thank goodness a death yet because of this in the united states. we're going from 59 cases yesterday. we wish they were none to 60 today. this is not exploding at least not yet. that's a good thing. further travel bans may be necessary, maybe some public events will be canceled and schools may be closed in the near future for some period of time. we don't know yet. but we're america. we'll deal with it and we'll deal with it smartly.
7:11 pm
instead of giving it panic and partisanship perhaps we should thank the good lord we live in the most well-equipped country in the world to weather these challenges and overcome them. that's the angle. all right, joining me now is mike huckabee former arkansas governor along with an attorney for trump 2020 advisory board member. governor you led your state through disasters. how would you rate president trurm's performance so far. >> a few moments in his press conference last night where he may have given a typical trump answer. he said it could have been better, could have been worse. that caused some people to go nuts. the truth is he has done exactly what he should do. appointed top health professionals. given mike pence the opportunity to coordinate it. there is a great teamworking on this. the fact is in a nation of over 330 million people, we have 60 people who have the coronavirus. it is not exactly a pandemic
7:12 pm
yet. it could be one, we don't want it to be and we'll do everything possible. the president has done exactly right. let me tell you something, he could personally suck the virus out of every one of the 60,000 people in the world and suck it out of their lungs, swim to the bottom of the ocean and spit it out and he would be accused of pollution for messing up the ocean if he did that. there is nothing this president can do that will ever satisfy the people who hate him more than they hate the coronavirus. >> laura: tonight chris cuomo tried to draw some type of comparison with 9/11. >> one of the lessons that we learned from back then was what, at the time the heroes were told you'll be fine. you do the work down there the air quality is fine. information matters, people like the first responders deserve to know what the realities are in the world around them.
7:13 pm
here we are now dealing with the fear of the unknown. >> of course we're seeing this outrageous demagoguery from the left. they're infected the trump derangement syndrome virus. i never thought we would see the media cheer for the coronavirus. in reality 40 million americans who got the flu last year. 40,000 died. that's the normal baseline. so far as the governor said we're not seeing an explosion like we have in other countries where they have totally different conditions. >> laura: wash your hands a lot. wipe surfaces down when you can. use best practices. that's how we all are always supposed to be. this is a good reminder for everyone. this was a hilarious moment and annoying and revealing at the same time. historian john meacham, watch.
7:14 pm
>> my great anxiety, aside from the impact of the virus itself, is we're living in an age of xenophobia. it is not impossible to imagine a scenario where blame is cast on some country or group of people. >> laura: apparently we can't learn anything about how china handled this. we can't ever talk about china. these people will go -- they will fall all over themselves to defend china. i've never seen anything like this. we're not scapegoating anything. we need to know how the thing got out and we're supposed to not know whether certain populations are more vulnerable or not to this? what is he talking about. he is a great writer. >> they ought to take his prize back. he was a great writer. when he says stuff like this it's despicable and totally wrong. one of the things we're dealing with now people are looking for a vaccine. the israelis say they're weeks
7:15 pm
away from having a vaccine. i want to find out when the left finds out that israel has developed a vaccine, are they going to lift their bds movement? maybe all the people on the left will not be able to take the vaccine because god forbid they get something from the nation of israel. that's how crazy these people are. we've got to keep it in perspective. give the president and most of all give these medical professionals time and the decisions mostly will be made at the local and state level to react to whether or not there is a genuine threat. >> laura: all right, governor thank you so much. as the coronavirus spreads many companies are taking precautions to stave off -- some like quantas and singapore air are scrubbing down their planes with disinfect ants, they are now. other businesses are telling
7:16 pm
employees to work from home until the pandemic subsides. the list goes on. what's the most effective strategy? here with answers is a doctor and scholar at johns hopkins center for health security. doctor, is there anything we can do to mitigate for just the millions of people watching mitigate the risk of infection? >> the only thing that we really can do is what you alluded to earlier. common sense, best practices. for example, washing your hands frequently. wiping down surfaces, trying to avoid sick people. if you're sick cough into your elbow or avoid people when you have to. those types of things. there is no vaccine or antiviral. we have to get through the pandemic. there will be things that hospitals can do and where we need to focus is getting hospitals ready for the surge of patients that may occur. >> laura: i was talking with one of your colleagues earlier with the idea that we'll need to quarantine people in stadiums.
7:17 pm
which is ridiculous. most people have flu-like symptoms and will recover at home, correct? they'll self-isolate like you do when you get the regular flu. you won't go to school or work. but the idea we'll be putting thousands of people in stadiums. this is the kind of panic talk that i think has people really distressed. >> definitely. i agree with that. quarantining people are not justified for this type of a virus and not going to contain it that way. it is the wrong approach to take with this virus. >> laura: then you'll ensure that crowd is infected and if you dump thousands of people in hospitals who aren't severely symptomatic because the caregivers and vulnerable patients are at risk. am i stating that correctly? >> you're exactly right. what we saw happening with the cruise ship in japan is what would happen with a quarantine situation. you get people infebting each
7:18 pm
other and making things worse. you don't want people to be in the hospital unless they require medical care. we have protocols for isolation. not put people in the hospital unnecessarily and expose other people and inundate hospitals already running at almost full capacity every day of the week. >> laura: real quick the facemasks that people are rushing out to buy. you can't buy surgical masks online. they're sold out. the n95 respirator is that better than a surgical face max. >> if you a general public member don't wear those masks for a costume party. not something we recommend doing. those masks or for healthcare professionals and don't want to create shortages in people buying those masks and crunching the supply chain for them. >> laura: they don't -- accept
7:19 pm
the coughing out of the mask. you can still get the disease if you're wearing a regular surgical mask correct? >> yes, loose fitting. people touch their face and don't put it over their nose. they aren't very effectively used by the general public. >> facial hair, if you have certain facial hair you have to wear the mask -- that was not a helpful post. who can follow that? there are a lot of different facial hair patterns out there on the cdc website. you are the best at explaining this. loved having you on tonight. come back soon. coming up it turns out trumps america first policy is proving to be the better way to handle outbreaks than globalism. david hanson explains why and mike bloomberg is defending chinese authoritarianism again. we'll show you how. don't go away.
7:20 pm

7:24 pm
>> laura: striking moment in the president's address yesterday was when he reminded folks he is tough on borders america first approach is looking pretty wise, which of course sent the left into a fit of rage. >> as the coronavirus spreads also is racism and xenophobia. >> it has to be solved by having all these countries come together. that doesn't work with that american first. >> we talk about coronavirus that cannot be solved within the borders of the united states. mr. trump's policy of us going it alone, of america first is disastrous for us. >> laura: i am glad we now have the democrats' response to all of this, victor. more open borders and more global travel into the united
7:25 pm
states. why discriminate against anyone from wuhan province or other affected areas. we should give them free tickets to the united states. this is the most ludicrous thing i've ever heard. they'll throw themselves on the funeral pyre of illogical thinking in order to defend globalism. >> they wouldn't want open borders in their own backyard. trump had a suspicion of china, lack of transparency. that proved to be wise. he wanted to close the border and make legal immigration on the southern board and why the european agreement of open borders is pretty much in chaos with austria and italy and he has addressed -- he is worried about 500,000 americans living in squall or and vermin on the streets of our major cities. anybody with logic would say that's what we need to do. because it's trump they are against anything he says.
7:26 pm
the hysteria of yk2 or the katrina of george w. bush. this is a political weaponization of an issue in a way the mueller and impeachment failed to achieve results. lives are in danger. >> laura: victor, i guess we're not calling it a pandemic yet but in every continent except antarctica. it has brought much-needed attention to our reliance on china, i think. you and i have talked about this for 10 years on the radio and beyond for vital medical supplies. according to the "new york times" 80% of the active ingredients for brand and generic drugs come from abroad from india and china. america makes almost none of its own antibiotics anymore. 95% of ibe you proef inimports
7:27 pm
and 40% of penicillin. this is -- this needed to change decades ago, not be outsourced to other countries. >> the 2016 campaign that we need to be more self-sufficient, autonomous. we have good labor, smart people, cheap energy. all the ingredients to produce vital things here whether it was fuel, natural gas, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing. it wasn't an isolation it. why put an offshore thing when there is a time of crisis. they can't come up with a consistent coherent criticism. they're all over the map. the only common denominator is whatever he is for they're against. it is worth revisiting what we saw on the debate stage the
7:28 pm
other day. heat and no light. it is tragic. this is a real human drama that have their health affected. he is doing everything -- >> laura: just to drive this home the point we're making about the vital medicines, this is an exchange that general mark millie had on capitol hill this week. chairman of the joint chiefs. watch. i'll tell you what it says. he said you are rightly pointing out that's a vulnerability about the chinese drug manufacturers that they have -- they are manufacturing in high percentages. we need to address it as a nation. this may be the point in time where we finally address this glaring vulnerability of our basic medicines, victor. >> it is. we should have got the warning with the dog food contamination and drywall contamination. this is serious. we're not saying we just want to make everything here.
7:29 pm
we're saying that things that are vital to getting up every morning and surviving one more day have to be in some ways controlled by our own regulations and customs and protocols and values. >> laura: great to see you tonight. thank you so much. it was only last fall that mike bloomberg claimed with a straight face that chinese president xi was not a dictator. given that he was so roundly mocked for those remarks you thought he would have learned his lesson. he doubled down last night. >> you had said the chinese leader is not a dictator. do you stand by that. >> the question is what is a dictator. they don't have democratic -- a democracy in the sense that they have general elections. if your definition is a democracy where people vote and pick their leaders that is not what china is about and they don't seem to want it. they like their system. >> laura: is that what the argument is? they love being enslaved. joining me now is a former nfc
7:30 pm
director. what message does that send to china? >> what these people say is it's the most influential guy they've ever met, they are so whetted to the chinese communist party they can't see when they get rid of somebody it is not like where bloomberg fires somebody and makes them sign a non-disclosure agreement. they whack them. this is a rogue regime that kills their people, imprisons their people and locks people in wuhan to die and locks them in their apartments to die and does forced organ harvesting. i don't see how bloomberg could not see that these guys aren't a dictator other than the fact he said he is the most influential politician in the world. he has bloomberg terminals operating in china and making billions in china. so you think about this. on january 31st the president said we'll ban any travelers
7:31 pm
coming from china. what happens if bloomberg is president? xi or others call him up and say please don't do this. do us a favor because -- >> laura: none of these people on stage this democrat debate have a clue as to how to handle this crisis. they're big tai, and not doers. >> one of them told me democracy is dead. we need their model. this is what they're saying. >> laura: michael bloomberg will be fine. >> he is one of the guys who made money on this where we've destroyed the working class in this country. >> laura: remember when bernie sanders was supposed to be the tough guy on china. >> he is a communist. >> he will be tough on china. references human rights. liberalism as we used to know
7:32 pm
in the 80s. >> they've all lost their way. >> laura: they hate the american tradition or it's foreign to them. american tradition is evil, racist, xenophobic rotten. replace it with communism. >> somebody can lock you up without any rule of law or justice is blind. it is just in your face. >> laura: they'll have protests about kids being separated at the border. >> it is not the united states it's the chinese communist party. i lived in china. >> laura: will bernie sanders ever win over black voters? the media are excited to tell the joe biden come back story? will it go up in smoke? tom bevan takes us beyond south carolina next. - do you have a box of video tapes, film reels, or photos,

7:38 pm
the latest polling suggest three of the last five polls taken show joe biden with a double digit lead on bernie. new poll shows biden with a commanding lead among black voters, 45% compared to just 13% for bernie. joining me now is dr. cornell west, bernie sanders surrogate and harvard philosophy professor. dr. west i haven't seen you for a long time. what gives with that? you just haven't come by. >> it's always good to be in dial-up with you my dear sister. >> laura: good to see you. does south carolina tell us something important here about your candidate's lack of connection with the african-american community? >> no. i was just there in south carolina. i was there at royal missionary baptist church and morris brown ame church. wonderful response to brother bernie. as you know we've been on the
7:39 pm
move in iowa and new hampshire. but we have to acknowledge the degree to significant numbers of older black broerts and sisters are tied to a deep loyalty to brother barack obama and gets transferred to brother joe biden. we have a challenge, no doubt about that. we have sister nina turner and agnew and danny glover on the ground trying to convince not just black people but all people in south carolina that we have a candidate who is fundamentally committed to the preservation of rights and liberties. i want to accent that because when you talk about democratic socialism you aren't talking about authoritarian forms. you talk about those like brother bernie committed to rights and liberties and also justice. >> laura: there -- i hear what you are saying, i really do. but when you interview -- when you hear the interviews of the
7:40 pm
super delegates, the people who are ultimately important obviously in this process. "new york times" piece interviewed 93 party officials all of them super delegates will be at the convention. they found overwhelming opposition to bernie sanders in his nomination if he arrived with the most delegates but fell short of a majority. are you concerned tonight that they will try to steal this from bernie sanders? >> i just want my dear brother bernie sanders to be treated fairly and justly. i don't think he was treated fairly and justly in 2016. by fairly and justly what i mean is not just the candidate who i'm thoroughly convinced can beat brother trump, no doubt about it. toe-to-toe, eye-to-eye and soul to soul but can generate
7:41 pm
excitement to insure that the tent is broad enough to be able to push over the finish line our dear brother bernie sanders. i don't think that biden and the other centrists can do that. they don't have enough galvanizing energy and vision to do it. >> laura: i have to say, i said this in the beginning. bernie sanders is the only guy person on the stage for the democrats who has a philosophy and acts like he really believes it. i don't agree with it but he has a philosophy. he has been pushing it for years and years and it is not a cookie cutter perfect sound bite but he is a true believer. i would like to see that debate between trump and sanders, a great debate. i hope you come back. >> that's where we're headed. bernie has longevity of integrity and at the same time he has good folk behind him. >> laura: great to see you tonight. thanks so much. with bernie sanders looking more likely to win the nomination, that's what i'm looking like now, the media are
7:42 pm
they praying, though, for a biden comeback? >> it's always been that joe biden is the biggest threat to donald trump. they thought they were finished with him. now what they're seeing in south carolina through the embers of his campaign are still there. >> biden has as big a day in south carolina on saturday those financial floodgates will open up. >> biden seems to have a different pepp in his step. >> laura: joining me is tom beavan co-founder of real clear politics. we could have predicted this weeks ago. if any of them start to falter you want it to be a horse race. they really don't want sanders to be the nominee. morning joe today talking about how biden is so emotion pathetic, an empathy, talent and gene that other candidates don't. i think that's probably true but it's a little kind of a hollow way of looking at this race. >> the media certainly loves a
7:43 pm
comeback story regardless who the candidate is. joe biden is on the verge of one. last week and the week before it was michael bloomberg was the guy that everybody was pushing as the alternative until he bombed in the two debates. now with joe biden showing some signs of resurgence here in the polls in south carolina the question is where does that get him beyond south carolina? how is he positioned in the states on super tuesday? and how much of a bounce will he get out of south carolina? >> laura: none. i'll tell you how much, none. none. >> we shall see. >> laura: he won't get a bounce. he might get a little money. maybe more than a little money but bernie has the mojo. he has the mojo. i can't believe he is 78 years old. he has energy, he had the heart attack but seems like he is okay even though we don't have all the records. biden, south carolina is the -- like the old nostalgia turn when he goes to see the old rock groups and they aren't all there but you like the idea of
7:44 pm
the rock group. they'll get mad if i name any. >> that's the danger of a joe biden candidacy for the democrats. backward looking. rests on the idea that he is the most electable candidate. even that isn't necessarily borne out in the polls. he doesn't energize folks the way bernie has been doing. his biggest problem moving ahead to super tuesday he is not even viable right now in a real -- bernie is at 32, 34, 36. biden 14. bernie sanders is poised to take the biggest prize on super tuesday. biden is in the mix in texas. >> laura: bernie will win texas, too, it looks like. we'll talk to you next week as this moves forward. great to see you tonight. coming up a.g. bill barr is one of the most important indictments of our modern media ever. we'll show you next what he said. what would happen to your
7:45 pm
community after george soros pumps money into local races, da and mayoral races? residents of philadelphia are finding out and there is breaking news on that tonight. and they lived happily ever after. the end.

7:49 pm
>> laura: not only the attorney general a fabulous one but the best media ombudsman in the country. gave a powerful speech at a convention for religious broadcasters, this is what he said about modern media. >> today in the united states the corporate or mainstream press is massively consolidated. and it has become remarkably monolithic in viewpoint. at the same time that an increasing number of journalists see themselves less
7:50 pm
as objective reporters of the facts and more as agents of change. >> laura: he is absolutely right. the media for the most part with a few exceptions speak with one voice. right now it's one that spews nothing but contempt for at least half the country. now barr didn't stop there. he also revealed the danger of an ideologically motivated fourth estate. >> not only does it become easier for the press to mobilize a majority but that becomes more powerful and overweaning with the press as its allies. it puts the presses role as a break water for tyranny of the majority in jeopardy. >> laura: the disgusting attacks on barr only illuminate his point. when the press can malign a respected, seasoned man who
7:51 pm
