live in south carolina with the highlights. griff, you stayed up so we didn't have to. griff: pete, jed, dean, your question is the right one. south carolina was the first state with heavy democratic boat. joe biden won in massive fashion. clearly the clyburn endorsement helped. this being the first test of black voters. remember they are very fond of past president barack obama. biden is making it clear he is only man to stop the president. >> the democrats want a nominee who is a democrat. an obama-biden democrat. option of winning big or losing big. that is the choice. we need to build on the coalition, the legacy of the most successful president of our lifetime, barack obama. on the campaign trail with biden. we will see him again. of course, biden will try to continue to get minority vote but it is warren, buttigieg, klobuchar who got to prove they can get some minority voters as we go to super tuesday where there is 14 states. more than 1300 delegates. there is only 54 here. 1300 in just 4hours -- 48 hours. it will be interesting when mike bloomberg jumps in the state when he has been in places like california and texas which have giant pots of pledged delegates. pete: the stronger biden is, less people look to bloomberg. he can change his tie. dean: i was focused on his dancing. he danced himself right out of that race there. $144 million, that is what he spent of his own money.

it was pretty much a anti-trump campaign anyway. a lot more people know who tom stier is now. jedediah: klobuchar shouldn't be too far behind bowing out at this point. i like klobuchar off the stage. she is more of a moderate person. terribly reasonable to the likes of bernie sanders but i don't think this will work out for her. biden keeps talking about president obama. he keeps make that as a focal point. it is interesting to me that president obama has not said anything he knows joe biden is at jeopardy. people said he will sit back. but at some point will he come to save in this guy? he was your vice president. there is a stake in this because of your legacy. biden is talking about saying we're not for what bernie sanders is talking about. i'm here to preserve his legacy. pete: he said you want results, not revolution. maybe obama was waiting for biden to actually win a primary.

chicago and california. this morning a state of emergency now in effect in washington state following the first u.s. coronavirus death there. here is what we know about the patient. he was in his '50s. had no travel history to china. he had health conditions that put him at a greater risk. washington governor jay inslee directed ault resources necessary to respond to the outbreak. that includes using the national guard there if necessary. there are currently 62 confirmed cases in the u.s. that number is expected to grow. president trump once again reassuring the public saying there is no reason to panic. yesterday he authorized new, strict, travel restrictions, to some of the hardest hit countries like italy. even side he is looking at closing the southern border. >> we thinking about the southern border. we have, we have, we received a lot of power on the southern border over the last couple years from the courts but we're looking at that very strongly.

biden tightened the race considerably last night making him the comeback kid. making him get headlines. he needed people to talk about whether or not joe biden could still pull this off as we head into super tuesday. this was a pivotal night for him. dean: you said the words, super tuesday. gets the victory one day. here it is. what happens? super tuesday. pete: today, tomorrow, we vote on tuesday. right over my shoulder, 1400, not 14,000. 1400 delegates up for grabs. some really big states that will, that where polling has been a little bit mixed. next to you on the board, california, 400 delegates. way more than all the delegates that have been given away. bernie sanders is far and away on top of the polling in that state so far. texas is another one to keep your eye on. biden had a lead in the polls in texas for months. when he seemed to fade in the polls, bernie rose. the question is, does bernie,

biden's win in south carolina even that out? that is a place the biden campaign hope they can pick up a few additional delegates. jedediah: super tuesday, accounts for 34% of total delegates. we haven't seen impact of bloomberg. he enters on super tuesday. will he knock biden out in a lot of categories. biden is worried about bloomberg. what his full impact will be. we'll see will bloomberg have an impact? will warren make her way in there somewhere because she sort of fallen out. pete: warren believing this state, massachusetts somewhere where she can win delegates. bernie had a huge rally in boston with 10,000 people. jedediah: if bernie would take massachusetts, for get it, she is done. pete: minnesota, that is where amy klobuchar says she can pick up delegates. it is proportionate. you're not picking up the whole state just a percentage. when someone takes the lead hard to take it away from them.

pence and you yourself spoke quite a bit. are there any updates you can give us this morning? >> no. it is the same as we said at the press conference. what we're seeing right now is what is called community spread, namely we're having people popping up who are infected with no known original source or index case which makes it much more challenging because the other cases, it was clear where the infection was coming from and where they got infected, such as the travel related cases. when you have the cases that we're having now in washington state and in oregon it becomes much more challenging because you got to do much more intensive contact tracing in addition to the isolation. so this is something that was entirely expected when you have diffuse infections throughout the world as you just mentioned, south korea, iran, italy, and places like that, sooner or later, they're going to be cases in your country that you can't

directly trace to anyone. that becomes much more challenging about identifying the source. dean: dr. fauci, a lot of people are comparing the symptoms and even the disease itself to having the flu s that accurate comparison or is it much less worse? >> in some respects the comparison is appropriate but in others it's not. for example, the seasonal flu mortality is about 0.1%. thus far from the information that we've gotten particularly from china the mortality of this disease is around 2%, 2.3%. maybe a little bit lower if you count all the cases but it clearly is much more lethal if you want to call it that than the typical seasonal flu. pete: doctor, there has been much made in the media about how this is being messaged, who is talking about it and when but

"the washington post" took it to another level accusing you of effectively being muzzled. this is part of what they wrote in "the washington post" on thursday. fauci is probably the most respected public health official in the united states. there is no one better equipped to explain what is happening with the coronavirus. now he is being muzzled. how do you respond to the claim that you're not able to speak freely about the state of the coronavirus right now? >> well i just would tell people to take a look at their television right now. what am i doing? i'm speaking freely. i think there was misrepresentation. pete: i noticed. >> whenever you get a request to go on any show there is always a formal process that is generally routine of clearance and when the vice president's people took over on essentially being the person overseeing the task force they said, let's take a very temporary halt on clearances so we can gather where we're going

with this. that happened. very soon thereafter the clearances went through and i have never been muzzled and never been told i couldn't say anything i wanted to say on television exactly like i'm doing right now with you. so that was really a misrepresentation. i'm not being muzzled. jedediah: doctor, one thing i want to ask, one concern people have expressed, when you look at the flu, you often think of people with preexisting conditions, older people would be susceptible to having catastrophic effects of that. now what you're seeing with the coronavirus, you are seeing a teacher, seeing some young people, seemingly healthy people. is that the big distinction here? should people be panicked about that? >> you know that is a good point. it really isn't that. of a distinction. for sure the overwhelming majority of people who get in trouble with serious disease that would lead to the necessity of intensive care and even death are elderly people, and people with underlying conditions,

heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, things like that. but every ones in a while you get someone who apparently is perfectly normal, young and healthy, who gets afflicted and gets seriously ill and even dies. that is much more unusual than the standard situation of people with underlying conditions. we see that within influenza. influenza is the same thing. mostly people who are elderly, people who have underlying conditions but every once in a while you get the situation where otherwise healthy college student gets influenza and dies. that will happen. pete: doctor, we don't have much time, play it forward for a second for me. what will the next week or two look like. i know you can't predict but give people a sense. >> you know i really think we have to get used to seeing additional cases that will crop up in the community in which there was no identified source. the american people need to

jedediah: is it also possible that obama thinks bernie sanders would have a better shot of winning? is it possible that he thinks that bernie sanders is more aligned with potentially his own ideology and what he would like to happen? is that possible? just because he had joe biden as his vice president does not mean that he is necessarily aligned or thinks that that is the best candidate. he too is watching these debates. he is watching what is happening to joe biden on the stage. it's not good. let me step back and let this play out. pete: i think the ladder is more likely. steve: i agree. pete: obama is the leftist but claims to not be a socialist. he has been at odds with bernie before. he looks at biden and says is that the guy that's really going to carry my legacy? if there were a moment for the establishment to step in on behalf of biden, it would be now. and the fact that they are not going to means it really is toss-up. jedediah: obama is not the establishment. he never felt like the establishment to me. i just don't see him as the establishment. i see him as someone who is being strategic in saying you know what? let me sit this one out for

will it really work? operation chaos organizer presley joins us now. welcome to the show. talk to me about this strategy operation chaos and what you expect it to do? >> yes, jedediah, thanks for having me. we had a two-fold prong with our strategy. our main focus with operation chaos was to be loud and clear saying to our legislators here in south carolina we want closed primaries. we are an open primary state here and for decades democrats have been crossing over into the republican primaries and voting for our -- what they perceive to be our weakest candidate. and so, because of that, we think our goal -- we know our goal was achieved because we had a closed primary bill reported out of the senate judiciary subcommittee we had a new bill introduced on the house of representatives side. we have accomplished our first goal. now, this is a marathon. it's not a sprint.

and then secondarily, in order to create chaos, we simply mathematically look at the polls. we knew that joe biden was in the lead. but number two is bernie sanders. and so we decided as much as we abhorred bernie sanders and his socialist ideology, we asked all of the republicans to go hold their noses and go vote for bernie and we did. we think we moved the needle about 3% to 5%. and that's a huge move because we're just a group of grassroots people. we had a zero budget. and so we are pleased with the outcome of what we did. jedediah: let me ask you this, are you worried at all or any of these republicans worried that bernie sanders just might be able to win this whole thing? >> you know, we're not worried. i mean, we are confident in the president because we never want to rest on our laurels. but, if bernie does win, we think he is the weakest candidate to go up against

pete: and we're following two big stories this morning starting with a fox news alert, a coronavirus case reportedly in rhode island. the patient had traveled to italy. the health and human services secretary saying a case was confirmed in chicago overnight. it comes as the nation's first death is also confirmed in washington state. president trump tweeting just moments ago, minutes ago, coronavirus -- in addition to screening travelers prior to boarding from certain designated high-risk countries or areas within those countries -- they will also be screened when they arrive in america. jedediah: in the meantime, joe biden is claiming victory in the south carolina primary.

if you look among the top three amongst black voters, you see binding at 60%, steyer, 16. sanders at 14, that's more than four times. that is why the biden campaign says they will go into super tuesday demographically similar to south carolina. sanders downplaid it saying, nope, he's ready for three days from now. listen. >> the people of this country on super tuesday and after are going to support our campaign because we are more than a campaign, we are a movement. >> reporter: and there's one less millionaire, tom steyer calling it quits last night, vowing to do everything he can to stop donald trump. although now that bloomberg gets on the ballot in the 14 states, the more than 1300 delegates, well, that's anybody's guess on how he'll do there. it's important to point out joe biden has invested little and

spent little time in states like california and texas. in fact, one of the voters yesterday at the polls told me, hey, did joe biden buy a house here? i heard he moved here. [laughter] obviously, he habit. we'll find out how well he can do here. pete: and that is the core question, is this a south carolina only thing for joe biden, or does it translate into super or tuesday. this has been a race of momentum shifts. pete buttigieg won iowa, bernie wins big in nevada, now biden wins big in south carolina, reminds you how different our country is. but when you look at that map right there, that's a third of the delegates on tuesday. without money -- joe doesn't have any money -- he can't run the ads that bloomberg's running or that bernie's running with the millions he's raised. so when it comes to california and texas, big grab for delegates, and once someone gets a lead, it's hard to take it away. jedediah: biden really needed that win not only for the numbers, but for his confidence.

that was the first time in a long time that i've actually seen joe biden come off like joe biden, like the joe biden many democrats wanted to support initially, could have the potential to be that strong nominee. he kind of vanished in all these debates. that victory was important for him. now, whether or not it will move forward and increase as we look at super tuesday, whether bloomberg will come into play, whether elizabeth warren will maintain some strength, i don't know. it remains to be seen, but i think many voters who do support joe biden took a sigh of relief when they saw him take that stage and act like the joe biden they know. >> always smiles when you're winning. president trump had something to say about this, and he's tweeted that sleepy joe biden's victory in the south carolina primary should be the end of mike bloomberg's joke of a campaign. after the worst debate performance in the history of presidential debates, mini mike is taking many voters away.

exclamation point on your half a billion dollars you've spent and try to win. i don't think it works that way. i'm remindedded of what barack obama did in 2008. remember, he bought 30 minutes of television time on multiple networks and base withically did an infomercial. here's the big difference, barack obama had a movement. he had an inspiring message that people were gravitating to. that was the final exclamation point whereas michael bloomberg, we don't know who his supporters are right now. biden has the same problem. you don't meet enthusiast withic biden supporters. -- enthusiastic biden supporters. jedediah: and barack obama showed up on the debate stage. that was in addition to everything else that he was doing right in order to make himself a force in that election. bloomberg is just doing these little appearances, and when it comes time to debate, he vanishes. well, we're going to hear more from bloomberg, there's a town hall monday at 6:30 p.m., kudos to him for doing that.

about people who have been invested and involved in those conflicts for a couple of decades. the president spoke about this at cpac. here's what he had to say. >> today the united states signed a deal with the taliban so that we can hopefully begin the immediately process of finally bringing our troops back home. in exchange for the taliban's action against al-qaeda and other terrorists who can threaten us, we're prepared to begin those force withdrawals. and if the taliban and the afghan government live up to their commitments -- and they may or they may not, but i think we have a lot of reason why they will. i think they will. that means that the longest war in american history by far, not even close, will be are over. pete: he ran on this. dean: he ran on it, said he'd do it, and he's doing something again he said he would get done. whether that holds, that's the question. trust a little bit but verify a

lot. i think that a lot of eyes are going to be watching the taliban and how they react. if they really do follow the plan, and a lot of people are dubious about that. earlier with you, pete, you spoke to the former deputy commanding general of u.s. forces in afghanistan, and he praised the president on this deal. >> i think this is the president showing very strong leadership and accomplishing what he said he was going to do. this has been something that the country has needed for several years now. my feeling is that we accomplished our mission a long time ago in afghanistan by defeating al-qaeda there. the taliban wants power. we threw them out of power in 2001, and so this will be a bumpy road, but it's our best shot. pete: it's a fair assessment. the taliban does want power. how long do they abide by the agreement -- they're going to lie to us, and they're going to try to challenge the afghan government. our own security is what has to be the most important. isis, al-qaeda, people who

attempt to strike us, keeping that at bay. jedediah: and politically i think that the timing is significant for trump, because it is a campaign promise fulfilled. he's heading into this election, and he is going to be able to check a lot of boxes of campaign promises. often times people run for office and they come in and they don't get a lot done. this is a president who ran on things and one by one you can check off the list, the economy, regulation, border security, when it comes to foreign policy, he really did what he said he was going to do, and i think's going to be very impactful for many americans around the country who say, listen, you got what you with paid for in a sense. you elected this guy, he did what he said he was going to do, that makes him different. dean: lindsey graham said yesterday, i don't know, you've done all of this, all these list of accomplishments while dealing with impeachment, i think the word he used i won't use on the air this morning because it's early, b.s. is the short version of it, and he said you did all of it even while facing all this

♪ ♪ dean: some quick headlines on the docket this week, president trump holding a rally in charlotte, north carolina, tomorrow. i'll be there. it comes off the heels of his rally in charleston last week. and thousands of voters are heading to the polls this week for super tuesday. thirteen states holding primaries to cast their vote for democratic and republican candidates. and the supreme court set to take up its first major abortion case during the trump presidency, deciding whether to uphold the louisiana law allowing abortion providers to admit patients to local hospitals. jedediah: well, president trump calling out the federal reserve as the threat of coronavirus rattles the global economy. >> the lowest interest rates, our fed rate is higher. you look at germany, you rook at japan -- you look at japan, other countries, many of them have negative rates. and if we are not put in that position because of our fed. and now we have this problem. so our fed should start being a

leader, not a follower. our fed has been a follower. we need a fed that's going to be a leader. pete: here to weigh in, sunday morning futures host maria bartiromo. so is the president right on this? >> just to be clear, negative interest rates means you are actually paying the bank to hold your money, so we do not want negative interest rates here. however, the broader issue that the president's talking about, he's spot on. we actually do need some kind of stimulus s and we will need increasing stimulus as we go into the rest of the year because things are slowing down. look, we are talking about the best economy that we've had in years, we're coming at it from a very good place. 50-year unemployment, a solid consumer. these coronavirus fears are real, and companies are actually going to have to discuss this in their upcoming quarterly calls. and as a result, you're seeing expectations out there now saying there will be no earningses growth for 2020, don't even expect earnings

growth. now, i spoke with the vice president, he's going to be my lead guest this morning, the point man on coronavirus, and the message from the white house and vice president mike pence is more cases are coming. we will see coronavirus cases increase in the u.s., but don't get alarmed as you see a increasing numbers in the u.s. because they have their arms around it, they've got the containment efforts in place. the issue is around these test kits. these test kits were completely defective. what does the fda do? they send test can kits to 50 states, and then they say, wait, don't use them because there are three areas of this test kit, and one of the questions in the test kit is defective, so don't do it. so we have not been doing proper testing all this time. so just from that alone, we're going to see the number of cases go up. jedediah: take a listen, we actually have a clip of mike pence on your show. take a listen. >> now that we are beginning this real ramp-up of the testing, is it fair to say that
