to stop bernie sanders. so is the president right? here to debate is fox news political analyst and author of taken for granted gianna caldwell and attorney alex foyer. we appreciate having you so early this morning. alex, i'll start with you. is this a sign that the democratic party is out to shut out bernie again? >> yeah, i think we heard from mayor pete back during the debate in south carolina where he spoke up and said he was worried about having bernie sanders at the top of the party ticket and how that might affect down ballot races. so given his turnout in these past states, i think that his effort to try to put his supporters behind biden and in that moderate lane to bolster support against the progressives, it does hold true. it will be interesting to see, especially given tomorrow, how that breakdown goes given that biden and sanders are really

neck and neck in several of these states, including texas which is very delegate-rich. heather: what are your thoughts on that? do you think there is a lot of pressure behind the scenes to make this happen? >> i think alex is absolutely correct in her analysis. i'm pretty sure the party elders noted to pete buttigieg, he didn't have a reasonable path forward, considering the fact he couldn't get african americans to get around him. considering that joe biden won two-thirds of the afghan american vote in south carolina, that gives him the momentum. bernie sanders in 2016 lost by more than 85% in south carolina, this is a person who is nationally making in-roads within the black community, providing him with according to some of the latest polls one-third of african american support and especially 35 and under african americans being supportive of bernie sanders. so this race is by no means

is also super tuesday. after that, you look at michigan, for example, that's the following week and he actually defeated hillary clinton there in 2016, those rust belt states bode well for sanders' campaign, ohio's up after that. so it's going to be very interesting. i think it's becoming a two-man race. we know florida is later this month, march 17th and biden seems to be in the lead there. so it's going to be one to watch. i think if we see someone like amy klobuchar pull out too, that that could help bolster biden going forward and it's going to be neck and neck i think. heather: no doubt there's going to be pressure on amy klobuchar at this point as well. we have 46.5 million phon sanders, 18 million for biden, if the old saying rings true that it's all about the money, this may say something. >> it may definitely say something. i've got be honest with you when we're thinking about the overall race and the general election, i was in south carolina on friday for the laura ingram show

heather: welcome back to "fox & friends first." a fox news alert for you. the world health organization warning the window of containment for the coronavirus is narrowing by the day. people are concerned about more than just their health. with financial fears sending global markets sinking. the global health agency now weighing in, telling people not to panic. >> focus and do the right thing, take appropriate actions based on the reality. panic and fear is actually the worst. it's actually more impactful than the virus itself. heather: so what are the fears swaying the markets and how do we combat them with facts? joining me live to weigh in, former chief economist for the u.s. international trade

commissioner, peter mauricey. thank you for joining us. we appreciate it. >> nice to be with you. heather: have you seen anything like this before? >> well, yes. when we have things like a nuclear accident in japan or so forth, the arab oil embargo, things like that send shock waves through the economy. what's different this time is the mainstream media is so negative on donald trump that they blow up any kind of economic news that might be negative in nature. the criticism of him with regard to how he's handling the crisis, he's handling it the way h he's supposed to handle it. he's letting state officials handle it because they're on the front lines and supporting them. there's a range in outcomes, where will we be in june and september. they're trading as if the absolute worst is going to happen, like the car is going to go over the cliff, it has no brakes. and that's silly. the flu kills many more people than coronavirus does. we have several coronaviruses in

circulation that appear on an annual basis that basically cause symptoms like these but they're containable over time. heather: you're right about those deaths. we pulled numbers this morning. between october and february, there have been 18,000 flu deaths. so far with coronavirus, there have been 3,000. so got to look at some perspective. which parts of the economy are most at risk? >> well, my feeling is travel and tourism. we know about that. people are slowing down their airline flights, companies like nestly aren't -- nestle aren't traveling abroad and so forth. anything that deals with gathering, sporting events and movies. i went to the movies over the weekend and the place was almost empty. i went to see 1917. longer term, if china isn't up and running by the end of the month, we'll have shortages of barbie dolls and cell phones and
