>> reporter: into yesterday sanders had a solid lead but then monday happened with those endorsements from klobuchar, buttigieg and o'rourke and now we have these results. it is not a commanding win for joe biden but it is a win nonetheless. look at that right there. they will break up the delegates throughout the course of the day was we are looking at the blue big number as it rises above 15%. the big winner is mister biden. thank you for your service. bernie supporter as well. what do you make of these results? >> as a political science major i'm not in any way surprised. the worst thing to happen to bernie sanders would be to have klobuchar and booted -- buttigieg drop out when they did. i'm not at all surprised but

bernie sanders has taken a hit and there is a very narrow margin between him and biden. >> reporter: that is the big take away for today. tulsi gabbard supported, haven't heard her name much today. what is your reaction? >> not enthusiastic about the results. i wanted over one% of voters support. i look at texas as the individualistic state. i want to the candidate who was anti-prohibition and anti-work to take him a larger margin. >> another gabbard supported, not indicative of the texas voting public that you're a gabbard supported. what is your reaction? >> i'm not surprised. early on you did see bernie had a significant lead over biden is biden closed out later on.

1:08 am
they vote for joe biden, you can't blame it on the establishment, big errors were made, more individual donations, more door knocks, joe biden floored him without campaigning at all in some states, very telling. shannon: bernie sanders has the edge. >> when you look at texas. and over almost people are moderates. white voters and black voters, joe biden, propelled him into this week, allowed him to do well in the southwestern states, that bernie sanders won and lost
1:09 am
this time. elizabeth is from oklahoma as i am. it was a lot of people shocked by the results. >> >> and california bernie did win. is there any impact? and they successfully prop joe biden from a dying campaign? >> it was clear they want a moderate to win, no doubt about that. no one wants a socialist to run against donald trump.
1:10 am
he will shred a socialist, you can see that in this rhetoric. the idea of a moderate candidate. i was one of the ones that was very vocal about the process being rigged. bernie sanders did come in with an advantage. he came out on top, started this on top with more resources than anybody. it was for campaign management and a lot of negativity. the dnc played a hand on it and will continue as we move forward to the convention but it will be a contested convention. >> with super tuesday behind us even though we are waiting some results what is the key to this nomination as it stands? >> we don't know what the key is or where the building is.
1:11 am
the first thing is will elizabeth warren be getting out to not further divide the progressive wing? will michael bloomberg drop out and helped joe biden? it is going to be contested. bernie sanders has nothing to lose. he won't run again. going to the convention things will get uglier before they get better. rob: another big day in two weeks. thank you, appreciate it. jillian: the military conducting airstrikes against the taliban and. >> the first such attack in afghanistan since the historic peace deal a few days ago. the agreement would have pulled american troops out of country with the eventual goal of ending this 18 year war. >> a spokesman says the strike

democrats and establishment had been denying since 2016. one of the big issues 2016 was about, draining the swamp and here you have the democrat establishment saying the impeachment sham didn't work now we have to field a candidate. let's find the sloppiest guy, joe biden, who by his own admission never worked a day in his life, goes into government for 50 years, comes out a millionaire, his family and his son hunter with more than that. if they prop him up across the finish line, bernie sanders was a career politician, no problem easily defeating either of them. jillian: a lot of people expected joe biden to get a boost after endorsements by amy klobuchar and pete buttigieg and beto o'rourke, as we look at the states that he won, didn't expect him to do as well as he

did, virginia and north carolina, massachusetts, oklahoma and texas. what is the surprise for you? >> a week ago the new york times was reporting the democrat leaders in the party are willing to risk damage to stop bernie sanders and low and behold you have mayor pete, they fire of the private jet in south bend, get him to endorse joe biden, amy klobuchar, harry reid, getting out of the race before super tuesday, certainly does prop up joe biden but maybe democrat voters looking at their choices on the east coast, and - rob: do they risk doing damage
1:19 am
to the party? that is going to make a lot of people angry. >> absolutely. to stop bernie sanders, the democrat establishment is willing to do anything they can to stop bernie sanders but they should be trying to stop bernie sanders ideas from taking hold a party which already has. this is anti-freedom, anti-growth, dangerous to the country when you are normalizing this ideology with young voters having a favorable view of socialism in the democrat primary, that is a dangerous primary the left death and destruction, the democrat establishment, they are not worried about stepping out dangerous ideas. they are worried about winning elections and it shows they only

the campaign what happens next with good reason because of the big flop in her own backyard but across the border into vermont bernie did win. he won but not as much as 2016. indicative of the surge of joe biden, 51% in vermont, joe biden far behind but considering what bernie -- 85% of the vote it was not the strong showing you are used to seeing from bernie sanders, 25 miles up the road from here bernie rallied with 3000 supporters last night. here's what he had to say. >> thanks to the great state of vermont and all the people in this state. not only for the victory you gave our movement tonight but for the years and years of love and support you have given me and my family.

let's go on to the white house, thank you. >> reporter: a lot of early reports are joe biden did great in the south and he did that these two northern states show his support stretches further, stronger than anyone thought he would have in massachusetts and vermont. jillian: thank you. rob: as joe biden surges across the country what message did voters just sends to the democrat socialist bernie sanders? here to debate, guys, good morning to you. we start with you. what did you make of last night and this thunderous resurrection of joe biden? >> reporter: putting polling companies out of business.
1:36 am
they were wrong about basically everything. the coalition of the democratically coming home to its roots. bernie sanders even when he won, 28% of the vote, even in new hampshire he got 28% of the vote. joe biden represented that the rest of the party does not believe in every government control of every aspect of american people's lives. bernie sanders did not improve his the american voters particularly in the south from 2016 and by skipping cella the week before super tuesday available to his campaign. joe biden comes in with 10-4 last night and it wasn't just a victory but nationwide top to bottom left to right decimation of the bernie strategy. rob: as we look at the states he won, talk a little bit about some of these states. texas was a surprise, massachusetts was a big surprise.
1:37 am
i thought it would be war or sanders. what did you make of that? >> the dnc did what it needed to do to prevent bernie sanders from being the nominee and it might the fourth, joe biden went from being a pathetic candidate who seemingly had a 0% shot at winning the nomination to be in the front runner. the dnc is trying to drag biden across the finish line but have to be careful about the optics. in 2016 bernie sanders supporters felt the dnc unfairly stripped him of the nomination, they were furious, many didn't show to vote for hillary in the general election. they need to be careful and make it look like biden won on his own. that is probably why pete and amy dropped out right before super tuesday. i still think the passion and energy on the democrat side is with bernie sanders.
1:38 am
there is a real hunger on the left for an outsider like there was on the right in 2016. voters on both sides are fed up with politics as usual. rob: the fundraising indicates that. when you look at the money sanders brought in versus joe biden, look at the ad spending on super tuesday, that is an indication how much money bernie sanders -- it didn't seem to matter. whoever the dnc likes, whoever they choose kind of gets the gig, seems that way because bernie is a lot more popular right now. >> bernie is very popular on twitter. rob: look at all the money he has raised. >> reporter: small donations from his loyal army. joe biden turned the applecart over and won without the money advantage without the momentum. it was simply that an establishment candidate represented the base of the party and let's not forget
1:39 am
donald trump was willing to get impeached to stop joe biden from winning. to send his associates to jail, he has been campaigning, the number one bernie brower the country for the past 5 years campaigning for bernie sanders. democratic voters understood that and realized how important it was to get behind joe biden. rob: who had the worst night? was it warren or bloomberg? or is it time they both drop out? >> it is time they both drop out. it is embarrassing and pathetic but bloomberg definitely had the worst night. he wasted half $1 billion but he's worth $55 million so he will not go hungry anytime soon. that was embarrassing for him. rob: we will see what that decides. it seems like a 2-man race now. thank for getting up early today. jillian: voting hours extended
