clinton, it was an upset victory, marked a moment for his electability, the state did not produce the same results for him tonight and that is a huge disappointment for his campaign. coronavirus concerns canceled his rally, didn't appear to impact voting in michigan, sanders's campaign encouraged election officials to address long lines at polling locations urging them to -- the same white college-educated voters, favored biden, one with a broad coalition of men and women, black, white, suburban and rural voters. sanders losses are more predictable and repeat from 2016. 's inability to secure broad support among african-american voters is turning out to be the achilles' heel of his campaign especially with a rival like biden who has long-standing support with that reliable voting block advocate number of endorsements, sanders was asked if he could see a path to the

nomination without support from southern voters and the delicate map still says yes. even with the losses tonight sanders is not dead in the water. next tuesday four primary states offer 577 delegates compared to today's 352. the results for three states are not yet in including washington state which could be a bright spot for him. he had more resources in that state and biden did and also a chance that progressives could rally around his campaign. earlier tonight we saw 30 elizabeth warren staffers pledge their support for sanders even though she has not endorsed a candidate after dropping out, they are perhaps sensing a void there. martha: let's talk to dana perino, cohost of the 5 an anchor of the daily briefing and juan williams, fox news political analyst, great to have you with us. there is a tone to reaction,

coverage from joe biden himself, turning to bernie sanders and saint wouldn't it be nice if you let your supporters, convince your supporters to turn his way? >> he is trying to convince everybody's not sleepy joe but sweepy joe in tonight it looks like that is inaccurate description. think about why this is. why bernie sanders is very worse against joe biden than he did against hillary clinton and there are a couple reasons. part of it is people are so desperate to beat donald trump that they don't want to take chances on a candidate who might prove unable to do that because of exotic positions even though they may sympathize with those positions and the other reason is even within the democratic party, social and this is not turning out to be a big winner and sanders has to confront the prospect as he tries to gain ground on biden but what he is selling they are not buying.

potentially biden voters and that brings me to the second point. is this the moment bernie sanders should follow in the footsteps of pete buttigieg, amy klobuchar and others report and say in the name of party unity and defeating donald trump i pledge my allegiance to joe biden. i don't see it. i think what bernie sanders has proven his over the course of two runs, he wants to be a player, some democrats say he has to prove he is a real democrat but put that aside. he wants the convention and he may want a role in terms of how the biden campaign progresses. he has a lot of things that are on his agenda and i think i would agree he has every right to push it. i don't anticipate him dropping out before the sunday debate in arizona but i don't know how
