rob: that is scary stuff. medical professionals still don't have the supplies they need to win the fight against coronavirus. jillian: images at new york city hospital wearing garbage bags are not circulating all over social media. rob: how can we help the heroes pandemic? joining us is the president of the american medical association, thanks for coming on today, we appreciate it. what is the biggest problem facing nurses in this country? >> the biggest problem is nurses and other members of the healthcare team not being able to get the proper ppe they need as well as when we think of ppes a lot of people are just thinking of the in 95 masks. it includes gowns, gloves, face shields as well. we are always urging to have that continued on deployment of the least vital supplies to help

protect the nurses and other members of the healthcare team to provide the care that is needed. jillian: we keep hearing people say they don't have enough, they need them. how are they going to get them? >> that is one of the things and a has been lobbying for and stressing with the administration to make sure we continue to search and find where the equipment may be and get it to the proper people in need for that. rob: everybody is expecting potentially a big surge in the big cities in the coming couple of weeks. you already have a shortage. in places like spain you have 14% of the medical care people have covid-19. what would happen if that booth through our nurses in this

country? how bad could it get? >> it could get very bad. when nurses get sick, that person is taken out of commission and quarantines and a lot of times those individuals who may have been working next to that individual are also have to perhaps be quarantined which means less people available, less staff available to care for people who have covid-19 or other illnesses in the facility. jillian: let's look at this picture that has been circulating. so many people disturbed by it, nurses wearing garbage bags over their ppe and this quote from mount sinai hospital. in response to that picture they say we always provide our staff with critically important ppe they need to do their job. the troubling photo circulating in the media shows the nurses in proper ppp underneath garbage bags.

i'm not sure what to make of that. what do you make of that picture and that response. >> we continue to urge proper ppe he given to staff so they can provide the care that is necessary. jillian: one more question. we had a story on this morning and yesterday morning, a number of different schools across the country letting their medical students graduate weeks early in order to get into the force and help with the fight against coronavirus. is that the right thing to do and should more schools be looking at that? >> it depends on various states within the country. there are plans under development not only for medical students but nursing students to help with this shortage but obviously various hurdles have to be looked at like different licensure in various states and what these individuals are able

to do but they will help alleviate a little bit of the shortage that could happen as a result of staff not having enough staff. rob: nurses are the heroes right now. what do you tell people at home they can do if they want to help. >> the first thing and foremost is continue to stay-at-home, shelter in place, maintain social distancing. the other thing is send a word of encouragement to nurses and other members of the healthcare team, check on their family members when they are at work. it is difficult to concentrate on the job you have to do, you may be worried about your family members. random acts of kindness go a long way. jillian: thank you for your time. >> thank you for having me.

rob: now you have everybody pack, the us economy worrying millions about the future of their bank account as the impact on jobs of those deemed nonessential. joining us is pwc charitable foundation development leader rochelle, thanks for coming on this morning, we appreciate it. our first question from in instagram user conflict information about the amount of money and will be deposited into your account. if it is true we won't get the money until the end of april or may be may. how are we to survive? some of us have been out of a job since february. >> the irs still hasn't given guidance and this isn't the law yet. the good news is if you filed your 2019 tax return those will be the people who get paid the fastest which if you haven't filed and do a refund, absolutely file that because the

irs will process those as quickly as possible. rob: will we eventually have to pay the government back through taxes? >> the way it works is there are thresholds. a family of four get $3,400, 500 for each kid. they will look at 2020 tax return and figure out if your income is from 70,000 individually, 150,000 individually, 198,$000 for a married couple it will be settled on 2020 tax return. make sure you have your 2019 tax returns filed. rob: are we going to have to pay it back eventually? that is the way it goes.

>> that is unclear but the way they do that is in 2020 on your tax return. rob: should we start a cash emergency fund of coronavirus doesn't slow down? >> my rule of thumb is we don't have a household budget, we have one now, a difficult time to put together an emergency fund. as much money coming in the house but if you don't have a household budget, absolutely positively put it down now. it is discretionary to come back if you want to scroll away as much as you can. rob: how does a person on disability, social security retirement balance their checkbook when they are not getting help during this time? >> if you have fixed income, whether it be from social

security disability or pension. if you are concerned about the income stream coming in i would contact the social security administration just to make sure nothing has changed and you can still count on that money coming in and if you are not getting that money direct deposited now is a great time to have that many direct deposited and a lot quicker. rob: how can consumers protect their retirement savings and 401(k)s? people watching that drop a lot. >> my best advice is not to panic and now is not a great time to start shifting account balances around. it depends on how old you are. if you are starting in retirement and using that money to pull out hopefully you have invested in bonds or something less volatile than stocks and balances go up or down, now is
