east coast time has now killed more people in the u.s. that in china at least according to beijing's official numbers. we have more than 3400 deaths nationwide, half of those in new york state. the epicenter here at home. we have team fox coverage throughout the hour all across the country now coast-to-coast. in the midwest, cases are skyrocketing. and now has the fourth most infections in the country and on the west coast a bit of a different story, officials in the state of washington saying early social distancing guidelines may be working, but the governor there warns the state should not declare victory just yet. our reporters are fanned out across, here with me on pier 90 in new york city and good afternoon to you. >> good afternoon. we are still waiting for the first patience to arrive on the comfort. in those patience are expected to be there by the end of the day and right now it's a bit of a slow roll but once the process is set, they were expecting some 50 patients a day to be admitted

on board. state health officials and officials come together and they decide whether or not they should be treated on board the ship. an ambulance will then bring them to the comfort after they are checked to make sure that they do not have covid-19 by the hospital and then screened once more. this is a very serious situation on board. they are treating everything as though everyone on board has covid-19 created the staff is ready with the best personal protective equipment and do not want this to spread at all. the government is taking care of this with humanitarian emergen emergency. will not be accepting visitors on board.

bottom line is we are talking about someone thousand hospital beds, at their greatest assets of the 1200 medical personnel, nurses, surgeons, doctors from up and down the east coast of when you talk to them, they're used to helping out other countries on humanitarian trips. at the mercy and the comfort but there is a special pride they are feeling here in new york harbor to help us. >> two weeks early. in the meantime across town, central park is setting up ten tents. >> samaritan's, that organization has set up a field hospital in central park a remarkable site. they were expecting patients they are by end of day today. we have not seen patients there quite yet. there were 68 hospital beds including the sum of ten icu units. they will be actually accepting covid-19 patients which is different than what we've seen that these other temporary hospitals. at the same time, an

announcement is opening up at the tennis center in queens. a temporary hospital with some 350 hospital beds. mayor bill de blasio speaking just moments ago. >> folks afflicted by coronavirus, help them to survive and recover and go home and specifically helping patients who come through elmhurst hospital. >> there are 75,000 coronavirus cases in new york, some 332 deaths in the last 34 hours including the first death of a person under the age of 18. but help is on the way just talking about a thousand nurses coming, 25050 ambulances all over the country to help new york. >> bill: thank you, great to

see you. in the meantime, want to get you out to the midwest right now. how officials they are giving an update as we speak. white house task force expert dr. anthony fauci warning the virus cases and that city could soon take off. detroit officials say at least 50 people have died from the virus they were including the police department. and now nearing 500 officers in quarantine. it kicks a reporting in chicago where cases in terms of numbers around the rise. what do you have? >> a large refrigerated truck has now basically been attached to the facility to accommodate the bodies of covid-19 patients. tells us right now there's about 30 deceased patients being explored here in the trailer. serves two purposes.

in keeping covid-19 bodies away from others and it will help free up space. the expected surge of covid-19 deaths. chicago and cook county now considered one of the nation's hot spots. illinois has more than 5,000 confirmed covid-19 cases. the majority here in the cook county and chicago area now averaging 15 to 20 deaths per day. and chicago was home to the largest convention center in north america. right on lake michigan. the army corps of engineers right now transforming thousands of square feet into a facility to treat coronavirus patients. the u.s. navy hospital ship is helping new york. >> there is no sugarcoating this. the numbers are going to get worse before they get better. but we've been working round the clock to ensure our city has been able to stay on top of this

robinson died sunday from a suspected coronavirus case. >> bill: thank you for that from the midwest. let's go to the american west now, the army corps of engineers building a hospital in the convention center next to the seattle seahawks stadium. they want to help there with patient overflow. of washington says it has more than 5,000 cases. dan springer reports live from that hospital now. >> despite a rift between president trump and washington governor jay inslee, federal help is getting here and there are some hopeful signs but also some mixed messages coming out of washington state. two new studies done by the institute for disease monitoring or modeling conclude that social distancing is happening and it is working to slow the spread of the coronavirus. researchers track facebook data which shows users spending much more time at home and a lot less time in large groups socializi

yesterday, jay inslee announced a big crackdown on businesses and individuals who violate the stay at. he says there's about 90% compliance but the other 10% could face civil penalties and even criminal prosecution if they continue. >> we need more people to really stay home and not go out when it's not necessary. and there's too many folks still doing that. >> meantime, an army unit arrived to set up a field hospital in the event center connected to the home of the seattle seahawks. will have 250 beds and 300 army personnel staffing it in this hospital set up in the event center will not take covid-19 patients. they will take other types of patients so the hospitals here and be ready for a surge. they are predicting it will happen in a couple of weeks.

they are in new york city or san francisco, california? >> was as a whole nation approach and we on the department of defense want to be a key part of that. providing some great expeditionary medical capabilities. the comfort there we have already received patients in california. a great army expedition and hospital setting up 250 beds there. looking at this as a whole nation approaches. responding called across, we are positive and prepared and going to be part of this great effort. >> bill: you been following this update, you have u.s. sailors on board who tested positive. a 5,000 on board. how they can resolve that

situation? >> certainly track and event. i can tell you what we're doing here. we've taken very aggressive steps to ensure. we understand our sacred responsibility to defend this homeland. they've moved away from their families, we even have cruise and we are making sure that we are going to be able to operate. were going to be able to fight through this covid-19 virus we are going to be able to defend this nation, even though we are with covid-19. >> bill: you said is not a question of that, it's a shortage of people. it's a shortage of personnel. what does that mean in the current time? >> exactly right. things some great effort, and so its frontline health care workers, those are the keys.

hospitals on long island in new york. >> we are outside of the screening station outside of mount sinai, this is where patients can drive in to be screened if they have covertly symptoms. they will be put in that white tent you see behind me, the forward triage tent. the most vulnerable and most contagious patients where if you have a broken arm or you go in for a party event, you can at least have some separation. you've got a fever, cough, or flu-like symptoms, you're going to be in that tent and afterwards, you will be admitted and some people are sent home with those types of symptoms. the amount of patients being treated here went from 100 to 220 and just the last two days. hospital workers say they are being stretched to the limit in terms of ventilators, and those who know how to work all of the

equipment that personal protection equipment known as tce is definitely in need. we have learned through a source familiar with mount sinai's operations commission to private planes last week through his company sending them to china to obtain approximately 130,000 n95 face masks on behalf of the mount sinai network. is the need for other is still strong all around long island, a large network of hospitals tell us they currently have more than 2200 positive patients in the area. that is a threefold increase from one week ago. a significant supply of a n95 n5 mask that he ventilators yesterday. donations of groceries here at this hospital so they wouldn't have to go after work.

working and the men and women in the trucking industry, you won't find a more hardworking group that rises to the occasion when needed. whether it be a natural disaster muslims are always the first ones to want to lend help. >> bill: do you see the possibility of the supply lines being interrupted? i heard your first answer there, but do we reach a point where your truckers can't drive anymore? >> we saw an initial rush on demand and i think you saw some empty shelves because of that but the manufacturers and supply lines have caught its breath. continuing to see that in much better shape. >> bill: thank you, keep on trucking. it's great to hear -- thank you for sharing your story today, thank you.

as we did in 2009 to say what we need at the end of this tunnel as we eventually approach it is some shovel-ready jobs to get people who have lost their jobs back in the workforce and what better way to do it to rebuild our infrastructure. >> bill: john roberts, thank you for that. back on the health front, thank you. new york's governor saying 200,000 have been tested for the virus but my next guest treats patients every day in new york city and does not have enough test to last through the night. i want to bring in fox news contributor and good afternoon to you. in treating patients every day, what is the status of those patients, do they have the virus, are you sending them home or sending them to a hospital? >> i'm having patients come in.

most of the mild symptoms really should be staying at home. you have some patients that i have to send to the hospital. wasn't breathing too well, so i did have to send her to the hospital for further care and further treatment. most likely had the coronavirus and needs to be watched, observed and had x-rays and potentially if she doesn't improve for example one of the types of patients end up on a ventilator. if you start to struggle to breathe. you have chest pain, that you need to seek emergent care. but the good news is a majority of my patients mild to moderate symptoms and only a very few

handful has to end up in the hospital. >> the governor was asked that two hours ago. i'm going to play his answer and then allow you to evaluate it to try to figure out we've had to literally five models that we look at. and it's true to say almost no two are the same. the range on the apex is between seven to 21 days. >> bill: so he is talking about that now, tomorrow is april 1st. go ahead and address how would you answer his question if you

were asked that? >> i kind of agree because this last week for me here on the ground level 95% of them are corona patients. just now starting to feel it. it is all corona patients, majority. i feel like i'm just getting into it meaning the patients are now starting to come in huge influx. so it makes sense and feels right that may be it's two weeks, maybe three weeks were going to hit the peak and i think that's a good thing because that means after that peak, it's going to go downhill from there. and as you said previously, that's why we've got to prepare now. do everything we possibly can to minimize that huge trajectory. we don't want it to go up high. it's definitely a bit overwhelming. i can feel the strain, definitely making it work but we are prepared. i've got everything i need, i've got my face shield, got my gown and all the tools i need.

what i think it's most important that we really make sure the staff. >> bill: personnel, we just heard that, 15 seconds. do you see an end in sight? >> i absolutely do. we are at the point we were getting all the resources and the support that we need whether it supplies, whether it's staff, whether it's the space to have to put patients. when i saw that paul left, i got chilled and teary eyed because i that we are now getting all the tools we need to help take care of our patients. we just really have to continue to emphasize this critical important social distancing, keeping your hands washed and clean and do not touch your face, you spread the bacteria. but stay home, stay hydrated, take care of yourself and follow the guidelines. we do that, there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

been tested negative for covid-19 before they come across are bowing to the ship. on board, we are following the same cdc and dod department of defense recommendations to help minimize any type of infection issues on our ship as well. redoing all that we can. >> bill: how does it feel to be here? >> a diehard boston red sox fan, still happy to be here. i wish i was here for other reasons, but we are all in this together. >> bill: detecting a little bit of sarcasm that we could use it, great answer. i know you're ready to, but what does that mean that no patients have come towards you just yet? does that tell us anything? >> we are mapped out right where
