nicole saphier, they are flying through this process, amazing to watch but is it realistic that we could be vaccinated by the fall? >> they are surely flying through this timeline, 100 vaccines the works, pharma giant pfizer ready to start trials in the united states and we don't really know, to have vaccine by the end of summer seems like a stretch to me but only time will tell. it is not based on hopeful beliefs, if they get into human trials fairly soon maybe they will have some data by the end of summer. bottom-line vaccines are difficult to tell not only if they will be safe for humans but if they will actually work. pfizer is a huge goliath in the pharmaceutical industry, they partnered with a german company and also said they will be ramping up their own production of the vaccine which is great.

of it does prove effective who knows? maybe we will he have some. jillian: how does it work with human trials? do you start with a certain age group and then move on to another age group? how do we expect this in the next few months? >> it varies from company to company, they will be starting with 18 of 44 and testing four different strengths of the vaccine but you don't want to give it to a more vulnerable population, you want a healthy population to have less likely chance of having a reaction so once they approve effective in a healthier population may be an older population. >> we been doing a lot of steps in the process at the same time, it is interesting to think about that. another one, more than a dozen kids hospitalized in new york city with some type of inflammatory syndrome that could

be linked to covid-19. what can you tell us about this? >> we are seeing 10 to 20 cases in new york city that have been reported of this inflammatory response of children coming into the hospital with extremely low blood pressure, fever, rash, bottom line is it seems their families may have had covid-19 month ago. this may be an immune response to a prior infection, not actively infection, just their body responding to a prior infection and it is looking similar to another immune response called kawasaki syndrome. a lot of these kids, coming in shock with low blood pressure. people are keeping a close eye on this, there are cases in new york, someone at stanford said there are a couple cases, a

they call us up and say what do we do, how do we reprogram these machines that you manufacture and we help them do that and can you send us a machine very quickly. customer in portugal said we need a machine right away? can you send it over? we are fighting the fight in our own way with the parts to these customers who are very involved in producing ppe for the world. rob: the beauty of private industry. we love seeing businesses getting on board to do the right thing, helping our government out. if you look at the list of the crazies your company has been through. i want to ask what is your message to any of your employees worried about the impact of this crisis? you are giving them an insurance. >> you started to break in the

middle of march. we are in this together and we've been through many in the past, jenna relationally i have multigenerational employees, we will be this as well, we will stay together, work together and i will take care of you. not only union people but salary people. we will maintain thanks to the ppp fool salaries and we were forced by governor cuomo to reduce staff. we are back at 50% and we hope to have in the next couple weeks everybody back working. >> your advice to other companies given you survived so much in been successful. >> i think the key to success is to be adaptive and respond quickly to crisis which we are able to do. we have been through this before. we have managed our way through many things.

demand and not get means testing. give folks money if you're going to give the money and let the progressive income tax make -- sort out who gets more and who gets less but might be get a kick if mister this is cash until the crisis ends. then you are rewarding the creation of jobs. >> you look at the details if you are 16 or older, $2,000 a month if you make less than 130,$000 a year, got a lot of democrats signing on to this thing. you seem like you are not that against this plan. the president likes something like a payroll tax cut. >> payroll tax cut rewards you for getting jobs and for working. the prison system rewards you for not working. the problem with all the means testing is it is based on your tax returns.

a lot of people used to make $2,000 a year in new york city that are on the street and broke. they won't get a nickel of help until they file their taxes in april of 2021. the democrats love all this mechanical stuff so they can target votes, they need to lot of people are up against this challenge. the employees are saying i'm making more on unemployment that i would be if i were performing my normal duties. a lot of people collecting on unemployment, a lot of people are collecting on it.

>> sure they have 50 servers. suppose you're one of the 25 and they say no, i am getting more money on employment, after four months that, those big checks go away and the restaurant might not hire another 25 servers, your job might not be there if you turn it down now. also if i am an employer, you're getting too much, if i choose who to keep and who to let go guess who is getting fired? think about it that way. suppose i got a nice unemployment check. your standard might be there forever. >> staggering to see what is happening. this was a proud point when we had unemployment numbers around 4% and we are expecting 16%.

the message is we've got to get back to work somehow. he made that strongly at the news conference. >> the cure is worse than the disease, so many people file for unemployment insurance, the april unemployment figure is an underestimate, it is over 20%. the hard realities a lot of jobs being destroyed, where the economy rebounds, there is a long process after brief bounds. the longer we are shutdown the tougher this is going to be in the bigger pit we have to climb out of. i want to point out we will surpass the level of unemployment accomplished or unfortunately imposed in 1973.

jillian: california governor gavin newsom says he doesn't have to disclose the details on a $1 billion mask deal with china. rob: a billion dollars. carley shimkus here with the reaction on social media.

hey, carley. carley: hey rob and jillian good morning. gavin newsom has rejected a request to reveal specifics on his $1 billion deal to receive 200 million masks per month from a chinese manufacturer. now, in a letter to the "times." the governor's office says all responsive records are exempt from disclosure including exemption for records reflecting attorney work product or attorney-client under federal or state law. now the masks are coming from chinese electric car manufacturer byd a company backed by warren buffet. even democratic lawmakers in the state have questions like quality standards and price per mask. this discussion is making its way on to social media. jen on twitter says no reason to not disclose details of a 1 billion-dollar contract. it's taxpayer money. a little bit of sarcasm.
