public and private schools, 55.1 million-12 students. everyone is hoping and i think we are going in the right direction we will have a vaccine, no one knows if we will have one or when. what should be done about class in the fall? >> will take a year for a vaccine to get on the market safely. anthony fauci gives health expertise, the president makes decisions based on what is best for americans but it is up to governors to look at the communities and see are there outbreaks or are they meeting the downward trajectory to allow them to enter phase i to see if we reemerge into the community, but when it comes to schools we need to ensure if there is an outbreak are not in that community, do we have a protocol in place to allow kids to go
2:24 am
back safely? are we going to be doing testing every two weeks, maybe have the school nurse check each child before they go back to classrooms, limit the size of the classroom, maybe cut the number of deaths in half so each classroom, maybe start with half a day of school, younger students go to class in the morning, teenagers go to class at night taking it sure we have inspectors in the classroom, hand sanitizer and those things, having protocol in place is the key and making sure we have a plan in place, testing strategies and to know what to do if a child comes down with it, an algorithm of what to do, we test them and see who else is in the classroom needs to be tested as well. rob: everyone is talking about this and the kids were okay on this virus and you have a new thing throwing a wrench in everything. how will this multisystem inflammatory syndrome we have been hearing about change whether we send kids that? >> that is a great point. we are learning something new

every day with this virus called pediatric inflammatory syndrome and what this does is affect blood vessels and organs in the body, kids will have fevers and rashes, low blood pressure, vomiting, definitely something we need to take into consideration because this is having an impact on children and at first we thought this doesn't affect kids but that is not the case. it is affecting children, usually 4 to 6 weeks later and it is linked to coronavirus a we need to take these factors into consideration as we open up the community and keep an eye on what numbers are in each area. what happens in new york will be different than we see in nebraska. we need to take a close look, keep an eye on the date and the numbers make decisions based on the science. jillian: we will pull up your suggestions for reopening schools, you talk about different desk arrangement, kids wearing masks, cleaning and disinfecting, hand sanitizer, different tests every few weeks.
2:26 am
a lot of parents say i don't know how i will get back to work because i may not have cared for my kids, there are a lot of layers to this, not just sending your kids back to school, parents are affected by this as well. the good news for people and for governors is you have time to figure this out. >> absolutely. classes don't start until fall, we have several months and this isn't just about education although that is critical and important. for some children when they go to school that may be the only time they get a hot fresh meal and breakfast for lunch. it has a huge impact on parents, how they get to work, how they get a babysitter and day care not to mention the mental and emotional and cognitive development of children, having

that is selfish and unsafe. jillian: let's go to you. you say you think this and political but it seems like it is. seems like it is awfully political. and some conversations with some states. >> it is easy to make this political, that is the easy argument. people from the beginning just wants to get back to work, concerned about their well-being, their families, just not happy with the situation. it is easy to dive into politics and make about how this is affecting people, that is what the group is, get people a voice to understand this is not inconvenience, people are affected. it is not about getting a haircut. it is about bringing food home for their families, getting education, giving kids stability, so many issues not
