2:17 am
deflect blame from the way it handled the virus. jillian: let's take a look at what china has to say. china responds for the calls to take responsibility. this reads, quote, some are anxious to shift the blame instead of reflecting on their own failures in the virus' early days. should a country be labeled as the origin of the virus and made to pay for other's inept responses. that's a strong statement and strong responses to that, i'm sure. people say look, if we knew about it earlier we could have had time to properly be prepared for what the virus is going to do. what do you say. >> >> the world knows hundreds of thousands died that didn't have to die because of china's coverup and retaliation against scientists and doctors who tried to warn about this. the pressure put on the world health organization not to reveal the nature, the dangerous nature, the human to human transmisability of the virus. the world knows this right now

rob: tensions high as nations gather for an unpresprecedented world health assembly online as -- it's online because of the pandemic, obviously. jillian: trey yingst is live in jerusalem with pressure mounting against china. trey, what's the latest. >> reporter: rob, jillian, good morning. the latest is that the world health organization is holding its annual oversight meeting today online, this 194 member state organization would normally be meeting in a place like geneva, though the coronavirus has pushed the world health assembly, today's event, to a virtual setting. updates on treatments and vaccines are expected to be discussed, accountability will likely be a major issue. the chinese government is facing international criticism for the early handling of the virus outbreaks. reports indicate china pressured the world health organization to delay issuing a global warning about coronavirus. the u.s. sent a letter to the w.h.o. calling on the organization to allow taiwan to
2:31 am
participate in today's world health assembly. that request has been denied as china doubles down on the position against taiwanese sovereignity. president trump sat down with fox news over the weekend, painting a grim picture for beijing when it comes to responsibility for the early outbreak of covid-19. >> we have a lot of information and it's not good but you know the worst of all, whether it came from the lab or came from the bats or came -- it all came from china. and they should have stopped it. >> reporter: some good news today in israel, for the first time since the outbreak began israel is reporting zero new cases of coronavirus. the israelis do update the public twice a day about positive results. so we will wait to see if that number increases later in the day. rob, jillian. rob: trey, thank you. jillian: the house democrats $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill isn't going anywhere. mitch mcconnell says the plan is dead on arrival.
2:32 am
california governor gavin newsom says the relief package is essential for states like his. >> we have an obligation, a moral, ethical obligation to american citizens across the country to help support cities, states and counties. jillian: president trump threatening to veto the bilker saying phase four will happen but in a better way for the american people. stay tuned for that. president trump's approval rating surpassing his predecessors. the president received 49% approval rating compared to barack obama's 47% and george w bushes 46% at the same point in their presidencies. the poll says president trump's current approval rating is tied for the best of his presidency. rob: along the state lines not even a factor he says, president trump dismissing joe biden in the 2020 race, saying that his real opponents are the mainstream media. so is he right about this? joining me to debate that, robert patilo and jason meister.
2:33 am
jason, why not be concerned with joe biden? >> well, i think that you can sees been hiding out in his basement. he can't string a coherent sentence together. he's really at the center of this scandal, this titanic scandal that happened as they were leaving, that administration was leaving and this transition of the president trump administration was coming in. they framed the incoming president as an agent of russia. you saw that joe biden was in the january 5th meeting in the oval office with susan rice and barack obama. they were talking about the steele dossier, the dossier that hillary clinton and the dnc paid for. so it's just -- he's really running against the media and he's running against the liberal, the mainstream media. he is not running against a candidate that can really string a coherent sentence together. rob: he's running against the swamp in dc as well. robert, talking about the media
2:34 am
here, let's check out a montage of what the media has to say about the president. >> this is about the kind of nation we will have after president trump leaves office, whether in january or 2025z we report on what the administration does and not on what the president says, as a general rule. >> we have to reopen. it's always been about how. the president has never talked to you about how. why? it's too hard. rob: so that's just a small sample, robert. the media has pretty much gone all-in against the president. is that fair? >> well, the media goes all in on every president. that's part of the stress of the job. go back to the writings of lincoln and back to george washington. the idea that the president is going to run against the media instead of talk about the 90,000 people dead from coronavirus, 36 million people who are unemployed currently, i think that falls on deaf ears. joe biden is leading in every
2:35 am
poll that's come out, running neck in neck in many swing states so president trump has to take it seriou seriously when is to the chance at re-election. rob: you say neck in neck in some states. let's pull up this information. look at these states in contention in 2020 and the president has favorability in these states over joe biden. and jason, one other question, he said the media goes all-in on every president. do you feel the media was all-in investigating president obama? >> i do not. i think it's unfair to even compare the way that the media treats president trump versus almost any modern day president. they framed him, okay. the mea media was complicit in l of it. there will be criminal and civil liability for some media people as well, not just the obama administration. they don't treat president trump fairly at all. rob: respond to the swing state number there. these numbers have been all over the place. the president doing better right
2:36 am
now with the 49% favorability. how is he doing this? >> look, he had -- this was an unprecedented attack on our country. invisible enemy. the president took the private sector, we have over 9 million tests that we've done, we've done an all-out approach to this very aggressively and we've done an amazing job and i think that this president, the american people see what the president has done. if you look at the model, any of the models, there were supposed to be 2 plus million people that would die. we've done unbelievable. any death is one death too many but the president, if you compare it to the models, he's done an unbelievable job. rob: at least at this point. let's listen to former president obama talking about the current president to a bunch of high school kids. >> all those adults that used to think were in charge and knew what they were doing, turns out they don't have all the answers. doing what's easy, that's how little kids think. unfortunately, a lot of so-called grownups, including
2:37 am
some with fancy titles and important jobs still think that way which is why things are so screwed up. rob: it's obviously a jab there, robert. what do you make of that? >> well, i think president obama was leveling with the next generation. he's always had a great connection with the young people. what he's doing is leveling with them, trying to explain what is going on in the country when you have a president who spends more time on twitter than working in the oval office, of course you open up yourself to accusations of being juvenile. he said during the campaign that he could be presidential, when it came down to that time, we're in a pandemic and you're still throwing out childhood nicknames on the internet. i don't think that's what most of the american people want right now. rob: to be fair, president trump goes after obama a lot as well. this is to kids graduating from high school. the forum was kind of strange. what do you sunshine. >>think?>> it's a weak attack.
2:38 am
there's no substance there. it's similar mri simply a vicin a president while the country is at war. this is a virus that originated in china and took 185 plus countries to their knees. we should be uniting this country, not viciously attacking the leader of this country. it's ric ridiculous. rob: thank you so much for coming on and discussing this with us. we appreciate it. and we'll be right back.
