tv FOX and Friends FOX News May 18, 2020 3:00am-6:00am PDT
3:00 am
tables might need to come with helmets. jillian: all fun and games until you have to use the restroom. rob: get a dui driving one of those things around. carley, thank you so much. we appreciate it. "fox & friends" starts right n now. brian: here we go right to a fox news alert. the trump administration continuing to slam the obama administration over the michael flynn probe. steve: the president has tweeted the most incompetent and corrupt administration in u.s. history, ainsley. jillian: that'ainsley. ainsley: republican lawmakers doubling down on their demands. after joe biden requested the unmasking of michael flynn. >> this goes back, you know, way past this from the clinton email scandal to the discussion of russia. and so what i want to see happen here is let's hold people accountable. somehow this information got out. we now know who unmasked.
3:01 am
let are the stance having the investigation. ainsley: the senate intel committee set to kick off the investigation into the flynn case early next month. do you know we will be covering that brian. brian: absolutely. we will be covering that, too. and a lot of people on the obama side said i would love to explain myself. one of which is i can't wait to hear from samantha powers who has to go ahead and say why she became the unmasking king of the obama years and president obama and john brennan have no problem defending their actions, perhaps. meanwhile, mollie hemingway put it in perspective. what many on the left are saying the president distraction from the pandemic i don't think that's the case it. just so happened the michael flynn case is come up in the middle of the pandemic and the president has been on definition for two years trying to defend the fact that he did not collaborate with the russians to win an election. so here is mollie hemingway putting it all in perspective.
3:02 am
>> this could have been horrible in terms of foreign relations and it was actually quite horrible in foreign relations. horrible for domestic policy. really undermined the healthy governance of the trump administration. it went on for years. this is unprecedented levels of unmasking and leaking and conspiring against an incoming administration. we always prided ourselves on having healthy, smooth transitions of power. this was a willful attempt to undermine that smooth transition of power. that's an attack on the american people themselves. brian: now it looks to be, guys, open warfare between the presidents. president trump as you saw gallup poll 49% what president obama's is. and president obama using an opportunity yesterday during a commencement address saturday to take a shot at president trump. what does that have to do with graduating seniors? so, you know the president is going to respond. and essential liver this is totally sidelined a guy like, i
3:03 am
don't know, the nominee joe biden. this is going to be president obama against president trump for the 2020 election with the winner if the democrats win it's going to be nancy pelosi's presidency, steve. steve: it will be interesting to see how he responds because he hasn't taken the bait. the president told maria bartiromo in the episode that aired over the weekend he said this was all obama and biden these people were corrupted and we caught them. he said the president did, they got sloppy. they never thought they would get caught but they did. now going forward maria said do you believe barack obama directed the intel agencies to spy on you? and the president said yes, i do. but, maybe he didn't direct but he knew everything about it because the president, ainsley, referred to that strzok and page text passage where they go back and forth about, well, you know, the president wants to know everything we are doing because
3:04 am
the white house, the west wing is running this thing. so, all indications are it points back toward the white house, ainsley. but it's interesting to see who at the white house was actually operating it if it was being operated or if it was just a series of clumsy mistakes. ainsley: that's what we want to find out. hopefully we will get some answers so this does not happen again. mollie hemingway is exactly right. this is about the american people. we have to prevent this from happening again. someone has to be held accountable so this doesn't happen with more administrations in the future. i mean, think about this. it's an old administration trying to cause chaos. trying to cause unrest, if not more in the new administration. so, hopefully we will get some answers. i definitely want this to be investigated so that it doesn't happen again. brian: two and a half years an obsession. ainsley: more than that, actually, brian. >> will be four years this fall the next elections. so it's been four years.
3:05 am
brian: yeah. right. so they have been settle ling on that and now the president finally have some facts on why are you obsessing on russia? really? president trump will fight to reopen the economy that does effect earn. the president set to talk with top restaurant executives about safely getting back to business. hold a video conference with state governors. this comes as 15 states roll back coronavirus restrictions today. steve: meanwhile gyms are able to operate at partial capacity in the state of florida and kansas and south carolina, texas, and west virginia. while restaurants in florida, maine, new hampshire, and rhode island can now expand their dining options. ainsley: on capitol hill nancy pelosi is urging senate republicans to take up the democrats' $3 trillion relief bill. >> time is very important. we have lost time. but, again, setting aside how we
3:06 am
got here, we cannot take a pause. hunger doesn't take a pause. people are jobless across america. that doesn't take a pause. people don't know how they are going to pay their rend across the country. we have to address this with humanity. ainsley: republicans have already declared the bill dead on arrival calling it a, quote, liberal wish list. and some of those items if you talk to john kennedy which we are going to play sunday bite from him in a minute that's great. he says his bill would rewrite our immigration laws. federalize elections. allow federal prisoners to go free. he says it mentions dope, can business, more thacannabis more. references cannabis 68 times and expand obamacare. listen to john kennedy what else he had to say. >> it's $3 trillion for one thing. every penny of which we would have to borrow.
3:07 am
that's 30000000000 it's not going to pass the senate nor should it. my fellow republicans in the senate have tried to see things from the speaker's point of view. but we can't get our heads that far up our rear ends. and i think any fair minded american would agree once they read the bill. ainsley: it's definitely not going to pass in the senate. if it did the president would probably veto it if it got to his desk. we are in a different spot. in the beginning everyone needed that money. i know a lot of people still do. in the beginning we were worried about hospital beds and ppe and we were worried about ventilators and now people just want to get back to work so that they can start producing some money for their family. i mean, if you even look at new york city, the epicenter, people were out on the beaches and the mayor here was saying over the weekend he might have to put fencing around our beaches to prevent people from going out there, brian.
3:08 am
brian: yeah. couple things. ainsley: they are sick of it. brian: no question. and with the rescue package, it is not like we haven't done anything. at which time is you have got to do things to help people. liability insurance is absolutely necessary because you can't have somebody get back to work and have to deal with a myriad of lawsuits. they are never going to open up a school or university or never going to open up big companies and small companies. ainsley: true. brian: that's not anti-worker it's a practicality in today's world. meanwhile, states are getting -- people in states are getting mad at their governors and they are taking action in michigan gretchen whitmer has now got a bunch of lawsuits from republicans, in kentucky protesters are suing officials for suing the governor. they say that some of his laws are some of his new executive orders are violating their first amendment right and, get this -- in illinois where this governor is totally out of touch, shifts
3:09 am
his family down to florida play on their estate while he oppresses the people of illinois because of the high numbers in chicago. the owners of restaurant bars and other establishments, if they open too soon could face a class a misdemeanor. that's what they are doing in new york, too. even though the numbers are caving, in we have a governor who is going to -- excuse me, a mayor going to fence off the beaches and now he is stopping everybody from going outside. these bars were serving drinks and letting people sit outside, is he going to stop that until, i guess, the whole -- the virus is gone from the city. that's not going to happen in our lifetimes or at least in the next few months. we have to learn to live with it not run and hide from it. those days are over. we can't do this any longer. steve: well, in fact, and ainsley touched on this a moment ago remember in the very beginning it was all about flattening the curve and not overwhelm our hospitals that's what it was all about and that's why we needed the masks and ventilators and that's why we
3:10 am
needed the bed space and they got all of those things and thankfully we did not overwhelm the hospitals. i was reading this morning, however, the country of brazil apparently is on the verge of the hospitals being overwhelmed. when it comes to reopening and liability protection for businesses, which is something that the republicans are pushing for, i heard one worker whose restaurant opened this weekend in one of the states and that person said to her boss said i'm going to be there, you know, i'm not interested in taking the unemployment insurance. i want to work. goes to work and is told, okay, you can't wear a mask in the dining room. and it's like wait a minute, i got hoosier. i have got breathing issues, i have got to wear the mask. and the boss said nope, you are not going to do it. eventually they went back and forth and the boss realized irving has got to feel safe. not only the customers who come in so they feel like they can have a nice meal but also the
3:11 am
people who work there. it's got to work for both sides. so as this liability stuff goes through, it will be interesting to see how that all pans out. in the meantime, ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. finally, sports back on fox. and if you were watching, there he goes right there, it is at darlington it was called the real heroes 400 a little different though because there were masks. people were wearing masks. kevin harvick was wearing a mask when he jumped out of the car when he got his 50th career victory, unlike every other win he has ever done, it was different because as soon as he climbed out of the car, there was dead silence. because there were no spectators. the president of the united states watched some of the golf on nbc and called in and said it's great that sports are back. >> we want to get sports back. we miss sports. we need sports in terms of the cycley.
3:12 am
the psyche of our country. and that's what we are doing. so start off with small crowds, if any. but, look, we want to get it back to where it was. we want big, big stadiums loaded with people. we don't want to have 15,000 people watching alabama/lsu. where you have big things can happen very quickly. steve: you can see the president's little picture right there. the golf course is seminole golf course in juneau beach, florida a little to the north of palm beach. it was a great charity event they had yesterday. they had first of the best golfers in the world. rory m |1 cilroy, dustin justin ricky fowler and matt wolf. as golf was live they were social distancing. there were no caddies. they carried their own bags. they were in shorts. they just looked like the rest of us.
3:13 am
it looked like so much fun, ainsley. ainsley: oh my goodness. it's great to see that because it's a start. you know, it's the beginning of this. i'm sure, brian, you are such a sports fanatic you were thrilled with this. i was triei was surprised that e president didn't ask about m |1 cilroy. roy has been critical of his coronavirus response. but the president didn't go there, which i thought was great. because then it was just about sports. it was just about no politics, no putting america back to work and getting sports back in play, brian. brian: yeah. so we have got two weeks now. we have this. the ufc deserves all the credit. they led the charge. now you have nascar on break neck space pace. darlington 7:300 eastern on fox sports 1. i'm sure the ratings will be through the roof. the owners have agreed on a way to go forward with baseball. now the players have two weeks to get it done. among people who say get it done
3:14 am
alex rodriguez, mark -- retired one had hall of fame numbers we will see if they end up there. two very respected broadcasters great players. players, take the deal. 50% of your salary going forward. the players might not take it. if baseball players don't understand that will be the you hadder definition of tone deafness if players don't play because of money at a time like this. ainsley: is it just for this season? brian: 82 games. yeah. you have three weeks. and then play july 1st. and they have to make a decision within two weeks. and then we are going to see football come out with some type of schedule. one thing leads to the other. what the president's point is and great one if you want a sense of normalcy. watch sports. just get a sense we are getting back in gear. if you want to build consumer confidence. look up at the screen. i don't want to see the 1971 world series. okay? i would like the 69 mets but i
3:15 am
don't need to hear lindsey nelson. i want to actually see new games. the president does, too. that's why he called into the golf channel. steve: right. it was live and it was great and it was a great weekend. jillian joins us right now in addition to those four great golfers down at seminole in juneau beach. jillian according to her instagram account was out golfing as well. jill gizelle did i get out and socially distance and play nine holes it was fantastic. i will say that start off your headlines with this a criminal investigation is underway as to what caused an explosion in downtown l.a. sending firefighters running for their lives. >> engine 9. >> >> i have two down firefighters on the front side of the building. we need help. jillian: the company that owns the building smoke tokes reportedly makes concentrated cannabis oil. it requires butane illegal in the city. 12 firefighters were hurt. all of them will be okay.
3:16 am
a flyover honoring healthcare workers turns deadly as a jet with a canadian air force acrobatics snow birds team nose dives and crashes into a home. [explosion] >> he just crashed. >> oh my god. >> captain jennifer casey was killed. she joined the air force in 2014. the pilot managed to eject himself landing on the roof of a home. tragic story there. turning to extreme weather tropical arthur making its way close tort east coast. rain rough wind an turning streo rivers. back to back storms dropping more than 5 inches of rain, forcing the chicago river to reverse course. sending floodwaters into lake michigan. more rain is expecting this week. and this priest is now a social media sensation after blessing parishioners with a squirt gun.
3:17 am
the father holding the drive by blessings outside his detroit church all geared one a face mask face shield and rubber gloves. he came up with the idea after checking with healthcare professionals. pictures taking place during holy week but now going viral on social media. he said he needed a way to do it and social distance. ainsley: that's really cute a big day down in miami where businesses are getting back up and running the miami-dade county mayor is going to join us live on his plans for today that's coming up next. now, simparica trio simplifies protection.
3:19 am
ticks and fleas? see ya! heartworm disease? no way! simparica trio is the first chewable that delivers all this protection. and simparica trio is demonstrated safe for puppies. it's simple: go with simparica trio. this drug class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions, including seizures; use with caution in dogs with a history of these disorders. protect him with all your heart.

3:22 am
economy, restaurants and retailers and small businesses can start reopening their doors with restrictions. here with update is the mayor. good morning. >> good morning. how are you doing? ainsley: i'm great. this is a big deal. we have been reporting on most everyone opening up in southern california the southern part including your area. congratulations. how did you get to this point. >> we put together a group of 100 business owners and put them together with about a dozen, half a dozen medical experts in the field and we came up with the way to open, do it safely and we need to open the economy here in miami-dade but do it in a safe way. so i think that the way we have done it with the regulations put in place we can reopen and safe to go out and do your shopping and get a hair cut and go to a restaurant and do it safely that's what we're going to do. ainsley: janice dean was talking last week about hurricane season
3:23 am
my goodness those folks in florida dealing with pandemic people want to get back to work. how are you preparing for that because i know that starts on june 1st. one of the things that we have to do is if we have to assume that this -- the virus is still going to be with us so we now have to expand our sheltering. so we have and we have enough shelters for over 100,000 people here in miami-dade county. but the space requirements for each one of our residents will go from 20 feet to 40 square feet, how they eat, et cetera. we'll also have little kits for them to take when they come in. but, you know, we are well-prepared for hurricane if it comes down. it is just going to be a little different. ainsley: what do you remember for the families because preparedness we have learned is so important. how can they prepare this week for hurricane season? >> well, we do it every year. so we give out the same messaging. you need to have your food and water for 72 hours. then we need to shelter in place
3:24 am
unless you are in evacuation zone and it all depends on flooding and the storm surge. and that also depends on how strong the storm is. so, while there are different categories of storms, different areas get evacuated and then we ask you to go to a friend or family and if not go, to a shelter. and our shelters, like i said, will be able to handle over 100,000 people. ainsley: okay. how are you getting through this? >> i'm getting through it fine except, you know, i need a hair cut. the haircuts, the salons and our barbershops open today. so i'm looking forward to getting our hair cut. ainsley: are you going today? >> yeah. well, maybe not today. maybe on wednesday. but also taking my wife out to dinner somewhere. ainsley: that's nice. >> and also to make sure that people understand that you can do it. you can go to a restaurant. can you go outside. as long as you follow the rules you are going to be fine. ainsley: especially when we see our leaders doing it. that will be, i'm sure, a photo
3:25 am
on. you are out with your wife. thank you for your hard work. >> thank you very much. ainsley: you are welcome. still ahead, many in the press down playing stunning accusations about the russia probe. terry turchie used to work at the fbi. what does he think? we're going to ask him coming up next. adversity came to town and said, "show me what you're made of." so we showed it our people, sourcing and distributing more fresh food than anyone...
3:26 am
3:28 am
3:29 am
brian: hi, everyone. welcome back. the fbi's scrutiny over the handling of the michael flynn's case just beginning. critics saying many in the media being very quiet about it. media liberals used to denounce the fbi abuses until the bureau went after team trump until they went after president trump and they said hey this sounds good. counter-terrorism division and author of "in their own words" terry turny. have you noticed the flipping of sides so to speak? >> i sure have and something that's kimes of surprising over the years the radical element of the democratic party and the media essentially wanted the fbi to rebuild so it would be a more comfortable kind of fit for them that is what robert mueller spent many years doing. so 2 was so bad when robert
3:30 am
mueller left and james comey coming on fbi employees and i'm told hundreds of them signed a letter and essentially the letter said the fbi is being deliberately led in the wrong direction and we have some chance and time to turn it around and we hope do you that and while be committed to helping you. comey ignored the letter and kept on the same course and you saw what happened in 2015 and 2016. the fbi hit the rocks and so did the country. steve: i want to -- this is what you are talking about just to back up your thoughts how the democrats used to be very suspicious of the fbi and now they are just loving what the fbi is doing. the atlantic headlines how the fbi lies can damage society. civil society. the daily beast in 2017 the fbi's war on civil rights leaders martin luther king be spied on today? that was in 2013. that's a cnn headline. now it seems to have flipped and they don't seem to have a problem with all these
3:31 am
unmaskings. in fact, the approval rating among democrats in 2013 it was 44%. now in 2018 it's 64%. for the most part the media is just down playing the signature kansasignificance of anything wh the flynn characterization listen. >> there is no conspiracy if the allegations are true. michael flynn admitted that he did what is alleged. >> an unfair disparaging of the intelligence community process. >> he literally pleaded guilty lying to the fbi. >> but, of course, they don't tell you, brian that we changed our whole rules about guidelines and classifications after what hillary clinton got by with and how careless she was with 30,000 emails. the bottom line is the fbi used to be phi delegates, bravery and integrity was rebuilt and recast as an fbi all about diverse, equality and social distancing.
3:32 am
so it's a better fit for the people who are not going to turn around and complain about exactly what they wanted. that's a real dangerous time for us. there should be no kind of political agenda or bias inside the fbi. and yet that 5-page letter presented to director comey was all about political bias and political compromise of the fbi if should worry us all to essentially subvert a presidency over the last four years. brian: keep in mind a simple way to look at the michael film case. if you look at the case. the fbi agents didn't think he lied. there is no recording of the conversation and days later a heavy headed 302 was written up and we can't find it today. so for you just to say he lied simple tin way of looking back
3:33 am
at it. not where the facts are you have to put some time into looking into it. thank you so much. >> thank you, brian. brian: defying the state's lockdown order. pete hegseth is there to talk about it. new york city health commissioner insult the police and she gets to keep her job. former nypd officer dan bongino furious. he is on deck. (♪)
3:35 am
i came across sofi and it was the best decision of my life. we're getting a super competitive interest rate on our money. we're able to invest through the same exact platform. i got approved for a loan and it was a game-changer. truly sofi, thank you for helping me prepare for whatever the future has in store. (♪)
3:37 am
this is much more than opening our gym we truly believe we are standing up for our constitutional rights. we are going to prove to governor murphy and any of these other governors who keep us locked down that we can be responsible and we can find the middle ground between respecting the leettle legalitiality o lethality. interest is a happ there is a hm
3:38 am
to be met and we intend to showcase that for the country. steve: some gyms have reopened they have not been authorized to be reopened here in the state of new jersey where i am right now. that guy was down in belmar, new jersey. there is another gym just about three miles from where i'm sitting in pompton lakes. they are going to reopen today in defiance of governor murphy of new jersey. pete hegseth is outside of one gym there in belmar, new jersey. pete, i see people behind you. they have got signs. they are supporting the gym owner. they know he has got to reopen to stay in business. but, at the same time, in 80 minutes. there's a chance the police are going to come, in right? [cheers. [. pete: that's exactly right we are here outside of atilis ghim bellmaur. every job is essential.
3:39 am
gunnerred a lot of support for it. stay here on "fox & friends" we are going to talk to him at 7:00 at the top of next hour. we are told when the doors open at 8:00, the state police will be here. ian expects potentially to be arrested right there on the site when his doors open but you have gym members prepared to go in and work out. ian has pointed out every job is essential. why can walmart have packed stores and crowds of people in parking lots but he can't responsibly reopen his business which provides a livelihood for him and some others. taking protocols and temperatures at the front door. only mexico can go. in only 20% capacity. social distancing inside. he is saying he is a free, responsible citizen and that the measures that governor murphy have taken are draconian and a blanket over the economy here. guys, a lot of action already we're going to talk to the owner and get his perspective and be here with cameras rolling at
3:40 am
8:00. try to see what the governor does trying to shut down a small business trying to make a living. ainsley: what are they yelling? pete: yelling open new jersey now. that's what you hear from the signs. open it up. every business is essential. ultimately they feel like hey, we flattened the curve. we have done our part. and now it's time to let people be responsible individuals. ainsley: thank you so much, pete. we are going to check back in with you about 20 minutes. bring in dan bongino, former secret service agent and former nypd officer. good to see you, dan. >> good to see you. ainsley: we are hurting up here. a lot of people are ready to go back to work and go back to the gym and just have their lives back. what's your reaction to that elon musk even willing to be arrested. this guy is expecting he might be, too. >> well, my reaction is the lockdown sends and the lockdown sngedding not because of anything the government did. the lockdown is ending because america says it's ending.
3:41 am
i don't know where politicians forgot this country is run by consent of the governed. it's a constitutional republic. it's not a monarchy or oligarchy. this is not the soviet union. i have to tell you i remember my history teacher in high school. he was a good man. he said to me the reason you don't see more organized action in the country, civil disobedience stuff all the time is because there is a middle class. being that there is a middle class there is things to lose. whether you have to feed your kids and no paycheck coming in two months and auto whole lot is lost you will see a whole lot more civil disobedience. don't forget this the lockdown is over. the lockdown is over because america said it is over. pretty soon these politicians are going to figure this out. brian: yeah, dan. a couple things. a lot of them aren't waiting. in michigan the republicans are suing. in illinois they have made it official. if you open up as an owner of a restaurant or a bar or a gym,
3:42 am
you could face a class a misdemeanor. but the real face of the pushing back campaign has been eli musk who said i'm going to open up my plant and by the way i might leave anyway, california and go to a place that actually wants me and that's texas. he tweeted this out: take the red pill ivanka trump came back and said take him what we need is lawrence morphous. >> i took the red pill coming out of college when i took my first paycheck and figured 30% was going to the government. 30% of the time have my garbage picked up. i love my military and our court system but i don't use 30% of anything. no less the government. that seems insane. now, elon musk is figure this one truth everyone should remember. i'm a conservative and i'm
3:43 am
willing to tell you republicans are not the solution to all of your problems. they are not. but i can tell you this for a fact. all of your problems are definitely being caused by the democrats. i'm not saying that republicans have all the answers but your problems are definitely being caused by the democrats. and elon musk is figuring it out right quick as they say down south. right quick. steve: you used to be a new york city police officer. i want you to hear what the new york city health commissioner reportedly said when the new york city police department asked for half a million masks for personal protection in march. she said i don't give two rats and then we have abbreviated that about your cops. i need them for others. well, mayor bill de blasio is actually now defending the health commissioner who said that watch. >> i chose her, she is the health commissioner that i chose to put in place working
3:44 am
constantly with her during this crisis. i have a lot of respect for commissioner bar bow. i have a lot of respect for the health department. it's important that we have a conversation to clear air on some of the recent issues and i think we had a good and productive conversation and we are going to move forward together. steve: of course she said she wanted them for others and that can the healthcare workers and people at hospitals they are on the front lines but so are the cops. >> they are on the front lines without any benefits of a controlled hospital atmosphere, positive pressure systems and things like that where they can actually contain it. they are out in the street with people deliberately sometimes coughing in their faces to not get arrested. but why is any of this surprising. bill de blasio has been on the wrong side of the cops from the beginning. he views them with contempt. he sees them as part of some adversarial relationship on the opposite side of him. you have to remember and one more thing about this the new york city cops, remember, i get it there is a lot of friction
3:45 am
right now with police and the social distancing rules around the country. i understand it. i have seen the videos. don't forget this the new york city pba, the union that represents the cops came out against having cops enforce social distancing and have been on the right side of freedom and history. they are the thin crust on the volcano as local his one said keeping sizzlesifltion intack. bill de blasio is on the wrong side of that always on the wrong side of cops. is he a disgrace. brian: wrong side of the people, too. symptom from you staying outside too long and fence you from the beaches when every health expert says being in the open air with the right distance is actually better than sitting in your house. meanwhile, you did something interesting. you actually listened to my interview before because i only thought you listened to steve and ainsley. and talking to terry turchie of the fbi. you said you wanted to expand on something we were discussing. every. >> you asked terry turchie if
3:46 am

>> more than anything, this pandemic has finally torn back the curtain on the idea that some of the folks in charge know what they are doing. a lot of them are not even pretending to be in charge. you will have to grow up faster than some generations. this pandemic has shaken up the status quo and laid bare a lot of our country's deep seeded problems. it's also pulled the curtain back on another hard truth. all those adults that you used to think were in charge and knew
4:42 am
what they were doing, turns out they don't have all the answers. a lot of them aren't even asking the right questions. >> let's bring in newt gingrich fox news contributor former speaker of the house and author of trump vs. china facing america's greatest threat. good morning to you, mr. speaker. that was former president obama as you know he was using that opportunity during the virtual commencement speeches to slam the president. slam his administration it sounds like. and president trump fired back and called him grossly incompetent. do you think that was a direct hit at president trump or do you think that's just many of the leaders overall because democrats in charge of some of these states getting criticized, too. >> i fully expect from now until the election that president obama will be unendingly left wing democratic campaigner. and i suspect he is also motivated a little bit by fear because these recent reports about the fbi and others in the
4:43 am
oval office with him during the period of spying on president trump and the transition. for the first time really implicate president obama himself. so i think there is a certain amount of -- being a little anxiety ridden in what you are seeing obama do. brian: so the president fired back and called it an incompetent administration. president obama is going out of his way to diminish president trump and is he going to do that as soon as things get somewhat back to normal. so i think that president obama is going to really run this campaign and nancy pelosi will effectively be president. let's switch gears really to the theme of your book and look at what australia did. they stood up to china and said we want an investigation of what happened here with this virus. china came back and said hey maybe we are going to stop trading with you. maybe we will start putting tariffs on some of your goods and they didn't back down. they have added over 100 nations
4:44 am
have gotten behind australia and said we also want an investigation. here is peter navarro on this. >> the chinese behind the shield of the world health organization for two months hid the virus from the world and then sent hundreds of thousands of chinese on aircraft to milan, new york, and around the world. that's why i say the chinese did that to americans. and they are responsible. now they signed a trade deal on january 15th s and they promised not to steal our incident electric 2w58 property. the fbi has now issued warnings that the chinese government is hacking the intellectual properties so that they can steal vaccines for the world. and use that vaccine to profiteer and hold the world hostage so, yes, i do blamed chinese. brian: he is right to do so isn't he, newt? >> sure, i mean, look, the reality is that the chinese took steps allied to the entire plant as peter navarro said.
4:45 am
they manipulated the world health organization to get it to be their partner in lying to the world. as a result, probably the estimate is that maybe as many as 90 or 95% of the people who are dying from this would not have been dying if the chinese had invited the world n december of last year when they first began to realize they had a problem. so, if you take several hundred thousand dead people. take trlings of dollars of economic and realize it all came from china. at some point they have to be held accountable. they ought to be required to pay reparations for every country to which they exported the virus and they also ought to be held accountable for being so stunningly and consistently dishonest. but, remember, they are a totalitarian dictatorship. xi jinping has no relationship to a western leader. his primary the chinese
4:46 am
communist party. they operate out of fear. they run a police state. they have literally been disappearing people who said the wrong thing throughout the virus. i think the number is now several hundred have been disappeared which is a chinese term for literally taking them off the street. you don't tell your family. you don't tell the lawyers. you are just gone. so we need to understand this is not a nice country. it is not a part of the modern world. it is trying to reestablish a world in which the china becomes the center of everything. steve: well, newt, let's talk about something that's going on in this country just about 15 minutes from right now in new jersey. a gym owner is going to reopen his business. now, here's the thing. governor murphy, as we look at live pictures. these are people who are lined up outside of his gym there in

a dictator and we have seen this all across the country. people who chose the governor of minnesota protected planned parenthood but closed churches. well, pretty hard to argue that planned parenthood is more important than a church or a synagogue. but, you are seeing all these kind of political games by politicians. and i think they ought to back off. and recognize americans are adults. americans can make rational decisions and, you know, ought to engage in social spacing. but, if they do that what's the beef? ainsley: newt, thank you so much for being on with us. glad things are opening up for y'all in italy. >> thank you. ainsley: you are welcome. wasn't too long ago the country music star john rich was giving us a tour of nashville and today his redneck riviera bar is back up and running after the shutdown there john rich is going to join us with the big update coming up next. uly trans.

atelis gym in belmar, new jersey as this reopening defies the state's lockdown order. pete hegseth has been there all morning long and he joins us with the very latest because pete during last week during a news conference governor murphy in new jersey said he's aware of the gym and that if they open up they be out of compliance and the question is, what happens next, because i understand there's a police presence and the worry is the owner will be arrested. pete: that's right. it is 8:00 right now which is what they said they would open the doors, and the crowd is only gathered here, drawn stronger and adimate that all business is essential including this one, and the state of new jersey should have the right to open up just like any other business. i'll tell you there's been a drone flying uphead, they've got vehicles flocking to the entrance of the parking lot so people are walking in not able to drive in, modest police presence here right now but i did see video of a swat team just up the road so what that means we don't know, but i can
5:01 am
tell you talking to ian smith the owner of this gym and his co -owner frank, they are prepared when those doors open which should just be momentarily from now, to be arrested, to be confronted by the state police, but as of right now, at this moment we're not seeing it. will they allow customers to come in one at a time as ian said he would do it. we had a chance to talk to ian and frank earlier on the program right outside the door they popped out for a second to talk to us. here is a portion of why they said they are conducting this civil disobedience today at their gym. listen. >> here we are, month three, no help, watching the middle class struggle. not just small businesses, but individuals all over the country in these states that are staying locked down, beyond the curve being flattened. >> we had to come up with our own plan. there is no guidelines anywhere and that's the reason that we know that he's not ready to open
5:02 am
up. >> you don't have to come to our gym or go to any other small business if you want to get your hair cut you as the american should have the right to do that and we're sick and tired of having our rights trampled on. pete: you know what they understand guys and acknowledge that right now this is a cause much bigger than them. they didn't call for people to come outside their gym this morning. they simply want to open it up and said they will continue to every day. this crowd has grown and grown as people have heard about what the stand they are taking because they feel like it's very representative of their own businesses. people pointing out time and time again, the big box stores, the walmart, the target are open yet businesses like this which are smaller and can arguably more responsibly social distance are closed so you're hearing singing of "god bless america", the national anthem, pledge of allegiance, patriots who want to support them and we're looking at the entrance when and will the state police arrive remains to be seen, we've got horns honk
5:03 am
ing, coming on in so we'll keep you apprized as we get more information of when it could go down but i'm looking back the door is not yet open but there is a line. there are x's on the sidewalk for gym members because there's a mix of protesters and gym members here, who are waiting six feet apart to go inside the gym. remember everybody going in will be checked with their temperature. they reformatted the entire gym so that equipment is six feet apart. they have to fill out a health questionnaire upon coming in and they've also pointed out business is closed to the public are closed although this business, you'll see them right here, there is ian smith coming out. he has opened the doors to his business. >> [applause] pete: and the doors are open and what he is pointed out is only members are allowed in. their temperature will be checked, masks will be worn. no one is allowed to be in there
5:04 am
for more than an hour and 15 minutes. you're not using shower facilit ies, ultimately there's no group classes, so it is the people are swarming around this gym owner whose making a statement, an act of civil disobedience to say i can be free and responsible at the same time. people here feel like governor murphy who famously said the bill of rights was above his pay grade has really overstepped what he's allowed to do, everyone has been willing to be responsible to flatten the curve which people did for weeks and now this gym owner, ian smith who represents many says i'm in my third month. i have to open up and guys, he has said i'll open up today if they close me down, i'll open again tomorrow, and the next day and the next day, making him a champion for a lot of the people out here in this parking lot, again awaiting to see what officials will do and because governor murphy has said he's out of compliance with the order ainsley? ainsley: has the governor said
5:05 am
he's planning on sending law enforcement in there? has he heard he is going to be arrested and what be the reaction of the crowd? pete: here is the thing. this is a very pro-law enforcement crowd, when you talk to people they feel like the police here don't want to be a part of shutting a business like this down, and so that will be an interesting moment if they do have to come in here ultimately ian said he's hoping they won't enforce the order but he will comply with whatever they are required to do in that moment, but again hopeful that they ultimately allow him to open up. and they respect law enforcement they really do and they emphasized that in the signage outside their business. we're going to social distance and wear a mask. we respect law enforcement, but again it's not the local police that are enforcing this. it's the state police who answer directly to the governor and ainsley to your first part of your question, is very much aware, governor murphy was asked about this at a press conference on thursday, at which point, he
5:06 am
said he's out of compliance and because he's out of compliance he will be held accountable so it's a showdown between the governor and ian smith and this gym, atilis gym which has now opened up defying the lockdown orders in new jersey, we'll see what will happen next here. brian: so pete, he knew when he put attention to himself that most likely he's going to get shutdown, did he think about doing it quietly where you just open up the back door, you tape off every other treadmill, every other elliptic, spread out the weights a little bit and just do it? pete: in what i've heard him say , he's seen other businesses do that. if you look outside the windows i don't know if we can pan in there, they're covered with, you know, paper on the side so you can't see in, and what he said to us is a few of his early employees when he first was doing that they were working out before taking pictures through trying to say you're out of compliance so they've covered it
5:07 am
up and sanitized the whole thing and socially distanced it and he felt like the only way toughie ably reopen was to be public about it and share the fact he's doing it and also he talks about how this is much deeper than just his business. this is a constitutional issue. he has a right as a free citizen to reopen his business and can do so responsibly so at this point, yes, it's about his business, yes it's about his livelihood, but it's about all of the other businesses in new jersey and across the country who the governor can say the state is closed but if we the people say the state is open , then ultimately there's not a lot you could do if every business steps out and i think ian is taking one of those first steps to say my business will be open. i will be public about it yet i will be respectful of law enforcement again that's pretty much the definition of responsible, civil disobedience so again just in my periphery i'm seeing flashing lights of law enforcement. there's a drone flying right above us and they certainly know what's going on.
5:08 am
the question is do they eventually make their way to the front door of this gym moments from now. steve: you know, pete one of the ways that we have seen elected officials complain about protests like this , civil disobedience is they will say well people weren't in compliance of social distancing suggestions, and in new jersey when you're out and about you're supposed to be wearing a mask and be six feet away i don't think that's happening there but i'm looking at cbs 3 in philly and it says that apparently, the owners of the gym posted a warning from the camden county prosecutor's office that anyone who patronize s a business in violation of an executive order could face a disorderly person's charge which carries a fine of up to $1,000 and six months in jail. pete: yeah, i don't know how they would ultimately end up
5:09 am
enforcing that and you see people come out of the crowd , you have some people distancing some wearing masks, folks closer to the building and you've got media there but what he's said is i own a private business. i am going to open it responsibly. people are going to wait outside based on time and membership, and ultimately, the people here have decided to gravitate to him he didn't ask for the crowd. they're here because they want to support him, support the idea of liberty, so again it's a free country, and in this community people are here and they feel like its gone on long enough and they can make the choice to be here or the choice not to be here. certainly a testament to america and civil disobedience here, guys. ainsley: so far so good. i'm glad it's not dangerous right now so that's great. pete: we'll keep you posted really. we've got flashing lights everywhere we'll see what happens, thank you. ainsley: sounds good. we'll continue to monitor that
5:10 am
situation, and i think guys we'll talk about what's going on with elon musk. elon musk as you know, he is the billionaire out in california. he said i'm opening up my plant and i'm going to build new cars even though i'm not supposed to and he said if you arrest anyone arrest me. well then he tweeted over the weekend, he tweeted take the red pill, and then ivanka, the president's daughter, she tweeted, retweeted it and then said take him and that has come from the movie the matrix where you can take the blue pill if you wanted to go back home or the story to end take the red pill if you wanted to continue on in wonderland, and its been for people abandoning their liberal values for conservativism so many are asking this morning is this his way of saying i'm a conservative now? we asked dan bongino about it. >> i took the red pill coming out of college when i got my first paycheck and figured out about 30% of it was going to the government and i thought to myself my gosh i'm working 30% of the time to have my garbage
5:11 am
picked up? elon musk is figuring this one truth everyone should remember. listen i'm a conservative and i'm willing to tell you republicans are not the solution to all of your problems. they're not but i can tell you this for a fact. all of your problems are definitely being caused by the democrats. i'm not saying republicans have all the answers but your problems are definitely being caused by the democrats and elon musk is figuring that out right quick. ainsley: now brian and steve, he has 34 million followers, elon musk so a lot of people saw that and were wondering what that meant if they didn't know what it meant and were looking it up. if you look at the latest gallop polls the ratings for this current administration has surpassed the predecessors. president trump at this point during his presidency 49%, president obama 47% and president bush 46%. so he's doing better than his predecessors at this point at least, brian. brian: right, but in california , elon musk is probably standing up because he's got the only car plant in
5:12 am
california. we know that they're opening up the detroit, michigan and around the country today manufacturing is. california alone is facing a dozen lawsuits and includes ones that claim the state is unjustly closed down gun shops, religious services and various other buildings. i imagine, like gold's gym which is now i believe filed for bankruptcy, you know, jc penney filed for bankruptcy, nieman marcus filed for bankruptcy. we know that this is not our fault. we know that it's almost impossible to stop, but why are you making the pain worse by not allowing people to at least fight back? we shelter at home and wash the businesses and guys like elon musk who has the power and the microphone to say excuse me, not me and he's doing a lot of the hard work for other businesses who don't have this type of power and money. steve: well he's a very big business but we've got that small business down there in bel mawr, new jersey where we're watching defying governor murphy's order he
5:13 am
opened the doors 12 minutes ago so if anything happens there we will take you back immediately. in the meantime, immediately, we go to our world headquarters and jillian joins us with the headlines. jillian: good morning today president trump is set to meet with top restaurant executives unsafely getting back to business. then will hold a video conference with state governors over the covid-19 response. it comes as 15 states rollback more restrictions today. gyms are able to operate at partial capacity in florida, kansas, south carolina, texas, and west virginia. while restaurants in florida, maine, new hampshire and rhode island can expand their dining options. >> a criminal investigation is underway into what caused an explosion at a building in downtown los angeles spending firefighters running for their lives. >> i have two down firefighters on the front side of the building we need help. jillian: the company that owns the building reportedly makes
5:14 am
concentrated cannabis oil. the process requires butane which is illegal in the city. 12 firefighters were hurt with two still in the icu with severe burns. all are expected though to be okay. >> turning now to extreme weather overnight a suspected tornado touches down in louisiana leaving one dead and injuring several others. a line of powerful storms passing through the state, rip ping off roofs and uprooting trees. meanwhile tropical storm arthur is inching closer to the east coast. high winds, rain and rough seas all expected to hit north carolina today and i know janice is keeping a close eye on all of that. i'll send it back to you. ainsley: thank you, jillian. well speaker nancy pelosi is urging senate republicans to take up the democrats $3 trillion relief bill, house minority leader kevin mccarthy says it's not happening and he calls it an out of touch liberal wish list he's on deck. the extraordinary people

5:20 am
>> no i'm not crazy about democrats are not crazy about it democrats talked about this bill going nowhere. it's really sickening that the democrats are using this opportunity to enforce their socialism. remember what is the bill they just passed on friday? well it's about pot, prisoners, about politicizing election law, prioritizing illegal immigrants and pensions. these are all things that are socialist wish lists that they've been trying to pass long before covid came to this land and that's exactly what they are trying to do knowing that it will not go anywhere. they are just using this as an opportunity to restructure government and i'm not just saying that that's what democrats say. joe biden said it the other day. their whip said it. it goes beyond aoc is now throughout the entire democrat socialist base of what they want to utilize this opportunity to, because when we wanted to help small businesses with their loan , nancy pelosi went to the freezer to stop it.
5:21 am
steve: what about the fact that while she has her list and it's now apparently going to be negotiated between the parties, the stakeholders in this particular piece of legislation it's very clear republicans would like liability protection for employers and businesses against frivolous lawsuits as it was described, but the president would also like to see a payroll tax cut which there are a lot of republicans who don't really think that this is the time to do that. >> that would help and keep more money in individual's pockets, it would help business. what we've been able to do as republicans look what we've been able do with the small businesses save more than 30 million jobs even though the speaker every single time we went to move a bill had held it up because she held it up for always the same time. changing election law, doing something about pensions and prisoners and others and that's not dealing with covid.
5:22 am
we should focus on covid, have the ability to open up safely. she's not even opening up the congress. the senate is open. starbucks is open, but not the house. we are essential and the founder s believed we should assemble. they'd be ashamed of what's happening right now and now she wants to change how congress works itself, and it's more than opening up a campus. it's bringing the voice of the american public back. steve: uh-huh. leader mccarthy we've been cover ing this morning a new jersey gym that governor phil murphy here in new jersey has already said they can't open, but they are going to defy the governor's order because and you can appreciate this as a former small business owner, you know, if they stay closed which is what the state of new jersey is telling them to do they are just going to go bankrupt forever. there will not be any reopenings because they simply will not
5:23 am
have the money. their dreams dashed. can you appreciate what this guy and other people in other small businesses are facing right now? >> i could understand when i was 20 i opened my first business. you put everything on your credit card. you were the first to work. you were the last to leave and you were the last to be paid. you want to make sure you're able to do it in a safe manner and that's why i believe we should look to the local communities to start making these decisions. i've watched the california governor where we are four states among ourselves and it's different to each location but he wants to make one blanket answer for all and that does not work. let's work through the locals to have the ability to do it at a safe manner, to be able to have business again and i believe we can do that. we might have have a adapt, we might have to change a few items but we can open up safely that individuals can start producing again, so we have an economy to come back to. steve: yeah, and for people who are watching right now, you know , they hear that the
5:24 am
republicans are against this new bill that would provide them unemployment for a number of months past the current legislation plus they might also get another stimulus check. republicans are going to try to help the people that were hurting right now it sounds like what you're saying if it is not coronavirus-related forget it. >> yeah, what i'm finding is all the things that the democrat s advocated for , the reasons why speaker pelosi held up the cares bill that dealt with unemployment, gave the small businesses the loans, was able to give the state and the hospitals money, she held it up because she wanted to change election law. she wanted to focus on cannabis. she wanted to focus on pension. well we were able to keep that out. yes she got more money for the kennedy center but now when the democrats crafted their own bill the focus was on those items, those socialism items they wanted to ink before up nothing about covid. that is a waste of money, $3 trillion that never went through one committee. this was only written in pelosi 's offer and they knew it
5:25 am
wasn't going anywhere. you talk to democrats they didn't like it, they didn't want it, and it's the only reason she brought us back and changed the election law on how the house will work because the house is essential. we should be working. you have businesses across america that want to open again and she keeps it closed to keep her, to give her more power. steve: all right, we appreciate you, even though the house is not open. you showed up for our interview. kevin mccarthy of california, thank you, sir for joining us live. >> thank you. steve: all right, 8:25 now here in the east. just talked about this we're going to check back in with pete hegseth from that new jersey gym reopening moments ago, defying the state's lockdown orders. what's going to happen next? plus we're off to the races, kevin harvick winning darlington in nascar's big return yesterday we have a live report from pit reporter matt yocum, he was there and going to join us live, next. when you're confident

now here to break down the major moments matt yocum. matt what was his like? how was this unlike anything you've covered before? >> well brian great to be with you and i think if you look at sunday, ainsley's home state of south carolina, the darlington raceway, it had everything, a mix of emotion, unity, excitement all wrapped up in one on the grid when you're seeing drivers for the first time in 71 days walk to their race cars, carrying their helmets for safety precaution, crew members in ppe but you also have normalcy, you had darius rucker singing the national anthem and one of the touchy parts is when we had the true heros, the medical folks but seven time champ jimmie johnson said it best at the beginning of our fox broadcast when he said the beginning of any journey is always the most important and in all i, globally, the entire world of sport, we're focused on nascar, the teams, and my teammates at fox sports to pull off the first live major

sporting event since the pandemic and i think you can check every box that was hit out of the park. brian: matt how was it different with the engines so loud and the play-by-play in color it would seem typical but you didn't hear any audience. we don't really hear much of the crowd at home. how much was it different for you or was it just when they handed out the trophy that it was the only big difference? >> well it was the big mix of normalcy and then an entirely new chapter in nascar racing, because once the cars rolled off and we could see our director, he had great aerial shots from the donald you could see yes, there wasn't a single person in the stands but when the green flag dropped, it was like watching any other race. you were focused on the intense competition and none of the guys behind the wheel, because remember its been almost 70 days since they've turned that steer ing wheel going into the corner, but look at the athletes that went over wall to the service those cars and like
5:32 am
any top athlete, even though they weren't at the shop or a racetrack they were at home doing agility drills and training to make sure all their muscle memory was sharp when they got back and i felt like really at days end it was almost like any other nascar race but then yes you'd throw in if there wasn't a crowd and yes in victory lane there wasn't 100 photographers, there was only two. brian: matt, real quick. and now it's back to work. you're going to be darlington 500 will be wednesday at 7:30 on fox sports one so you're going to try to make up for lost time, right? >> yup. seven races in 11 days, i felt like there's so many great story lines, brian, that we're going to see carryover from sunday to wednesday at 7:30 on fs 1 and if you're going to write your next sports book i think jimmie johnson could be one of those guys. hasn't won a race in three years , i watched him leading last sunday and i'm thinking to myself this is why, you know, the golden bear jack nicholas,
5:33 am
81 masters and a guy at the end of his career but yet answers the bell, back back to had the chance to win and i think you'll see johnson win this year , race 84 and 85 on his racing reggie regimen. brian: i can see you've got the passion ready to go and you looked like a caged lion for 12 weeks but now you're back in action and the whole fox crew, men while coming up straight ahead we move ahead. got a new jersey gym reopening this morning. why is that a big deal? it's defying the states lockdown order, pete hegseth has been covering it and we'll continue to find out what's going to take place. we understand the police might be on the outside and president obama slamming the white house's pandemic response during a commencement speech. >> all those adults that used to think were in charge and knew what they were doing, turns out they don't have all the answers. brian: karl rove to give us his

ainsley: welcome back. we're going to check back in with pete hegseth at that gym in belmawr, new jersey how is it going, what's the latest? pete: hey guys the crowd continues to grow. there's really three layers to this right now. you've got the crowd that's growing in solidarity for the gym owner holding up signs saying every job is essential, open up new jersey so the crowd that sees him as the center piece of a growing movement and then ian smith at a tilig gym who just opened their gym for about 30 minutes now and if you watch what they are doing on the sidewalk they are following every protocol. everyone walking in is six feet apart they are taking temperatures they have to be members of the gym, everything
5:39 am
is sanitized all of the equipment is six feet apart so he's saying i should have a lawful right to open my business and do so responsibly just like the chiropractor business that's right next to him and the third layer are the new jersey police, which are now blocking off the roads coming into the parking lot, there's a drone flying over. we've got reports and have seen video that there's a swat unit just up the road from here, potentially waiting for the gym to be full before they come in and shut un and the business down. we don't have that confirmed but that's what we've heard from multiple sources here, so it feels like a looming confrontation between a business owner whose defying the lockdown orders no doubt about it, this is civil disobedience but he believes he can do so responsibly in a free country, and now a governor, governor murphy who said he's out of compliance and he will shut him down so far the police have not yet moved in but the roads are blocked and a swat team, we're
5:40 am
told, is at the ready so the crowd here observing this situation, and when we have any updates we will certainly let you know but it's a brewing situation. brian: all right, pete that crowd is getting bigger and bigger thanks so much. we'll check back with you again before we go. pete hegseth, thanks. meanwhile, let's talk politics. let's bring in karl rove fox news contributor serves as senior advisor and deputy chief of staff for george w. bush, so karl, it's a bit surprising to see president obama for me anyway take a shot at president trump in a virtual commencement address about his pandemic coverage. i thought he's supposed to be inspiring nextgen regulation of graduates i don't know if that fits in but it must sound familiar because isn't, didn't president obama take countless shots at you and the bush administration? >> well, yeah, but you put your finger on it. it is so unseemly for a former president to take the virtual
5:41 am
commencement ceremony for a series of historically black colleges and universities and turn it into a political drive- by shooting. this is a moment where these young graduates that could be inspired to a life of service, to recognize that life is going to bring challenges in how we handle the challenges it's going to demonstrate our character, there are lots of positive messages that the former president could have delivered but the news that we have out of this speech, out of this appearance is he says, "the pandemic has finally fully torn back the curtain that so many of the folks in charge know what they're doing, don't know what they're doing. lots of them aren't even pretend ing to be in charge." i mean, think about that. he has slandered, you know, not just the president whose his political target and he made it clear a week ago he was going to go after him but he's taking a slap at the vice president who has been an extraordinarily effective job as the head of the coronavirus task force, dr. fauci, dr. birx, secretary
5:42 am
azar, director collins , all of the army that put up that hospital in the javits center, the navy that sent its ships to los angeles and new york, all of these people in charge of responding to this , he's now finally said they don't know what they're doing, so you know, we're getting lectured by a guy whose administration depleted the national strategic stockpile of n-95 masks after a previous smaller pandemic and didn't replenish it and he's sitting here lecturing the current president by just in a blanket condemnation of everybody whose been involved in this. these people don't know what they're doing they aren't even pretending to be in charge. really amazing. steve: man oh, man you know, karl , when we started this segment with you, we checked in with pete hegseth down in bellmawr, new jersey where that gym owner opened 42 minutes ago and it's kind of
5:43 am
what you're talking about where one-size-fits-all kind of legislation, it doesn't necessarily work across-the-board and so this guy , obviously, knows that unless he opens, responsibly, he's going to go out of business forever. is this going to become a political thing where people are saying look, i've got to just essentially take matters into my own hands because the people in my state are not backing my best interest? >> yeah, look, my wall street colleague wrote a wonderful column a couple of weeks ago forecasting that we would see these kind of tensions between people who want to reopen their businesses and understand their responsibility to do it in a way that helps continue to contain this virus, but nonetheless are back in business, and he said this tension is going to continue to grow. thank goodness we are a country of federalism so that some of
5:44 am
these decisions about things like this could be made at the state and local level and not all one answer from washington. i know that there was some criticism of the administration by them saying that this is up to the governors, we're going to give them guidelines to help them think through this process of moving to open the economy, but this is going to be a decision that they have to make. i believe in that, i think that is a better way for our country to go but nonetheless we're still going to have moments where there's a tension between private owners and businesses who want to get back to work and dictates from the government. i'm so glad that he's put the owner of this gym has put such an emphasis on being a responsible person, six feet apart, lining up outside, six feet apart inside, everybody wears a mask, these are essential to containing the virus and we got to have more of this but he's right. at some point we've got to let people begin to take responsibility for their lives but they also have to act
5:45 am
responsible and there wasn't a lot of social distancing by the protesters out in front, and not a lot of masks in evidence, but i'm glad to see the owner was very specific about what he was going to do in order to open his business in responsible fashion. ainsley: you know, they are following protocol inside the gym, because the owner says he's going to make sure that happens but what do you make when you look at the pictures of the protesters outside and they're not doing that? >> well you know, again, we're wearing masks not necessarily just to protect ourselves. it's to protect other people from us if we're asymptomatic that mask will keep us from putting into the air things that will make other people sick, so you know i understand people have a right to act in the way that they want, but this worries me some. brian: karl rove always great to see you thanks so much for your insight, appreciate it. ainsley: thank you. >> you bet thanks for having me all the best. brian: as texas starts to reopen and they did hit a little bit of turbulence meanwhile
5:46 am
neighbors helping neighbors the new online tool connecting people offering up their skills to those struggling during the pandemic. how great is that? two people share their success story and the ceo behind the idea will join us next but first i want to check in with ed henry and see what he and sandra smith have in-store. ed: brian you should be offering the world your skills which are awesome by the way. brian: if i had any. ed: you've got a lot of skills good morning friends breaking this morning the head of the world health organization just claimed moments ago his organization "sounded the alarm early and often" and we'll fact check that claim with republican andy biggs he's fired up about that group giving into china's lies and we'll talk to president trump's health secretary alex az ar is here and washington is poised for a very strong opening as a majority of the state economies get reopen money man charles payne breaks down what it means plus business owner advisor warning his supporters are not warning joe biden and donna brazile on that join sandra and me 9:00-12:00.

5:51 am
during this time. it's how two of our next guests met joining us now with their story is richard nielsen and ani la jack rodriguez along with the ceo of earn-in and his name is ron poloneapin, i hope i got that right good morning to everyone. >> good morning. ainsley: i'll start with you since you started the company tell us about it. can you hear me? okay, well, richard i'll go to you then because richard you're a plumber, right? >> that's correct. ainsley: tell us about this company and how you got involved. >> well earnin did a facebook page and i was on that page and somebody had helped with some groceries when i was in need and the one thing that i could offer was my plumbing skills, so i
5:52 am
offered up plumbing to people that were in need and a lot of people have needs, and i offered my skills for free plumbing to people out there that need it and i had a good response. ainsley: it's so nice of you to do that. it's a way to just pay it forwards. anila, were you the one that he went out to help? >> so i actually saw somebody else in the group had posted he went to help them and so i saw his post after that, and i took a chance and reached out to him, so i had an issue with my dishwasher, that was backflowing into it and after a few days it would overflow on to the floor, and dealing with that when you're stuck at home with your kids is not the best situation,
5:53 am
so i reached out to him and he was able to come within the next day or two and he came and fixed it for me and i also had a bathroom sink leaking and after a few days he came back and replaced the part for me as well ainsley: that is so nice and understand you were furloughed because of this , so that really helped your family out, right? >> yeah, it really helped a lot and i also have a small 10- year-old son, so now we're both in the house 24/7 so without a functioning sink it was really difficult to get through the days so it was amazing somebody came and helped especially at a time when i really couldn't afford to fix it ainsley: richard that was very kind of you. okay, ram, i think we've got you back, can you hear me? >> i can hear you can you hear me? ainsley: i can hear you yes so it sounds like a wonderful company. tell us about it and how other people can find out about it if they're in need and not getting paid right now? >> yeah, sure. so with the app you can track your earnings and then transfer it to your bank account whenever
5:54 am
you need it, you wait two weeks to get paid and the original pay cycle makes no sense so you use the app to track your earnings and transfer it and you can download it from the app store both on ios and android and the other thing that's interesting with the app which plays into helping communities work is that we don't have any fees. never understood why fees are so high or even allowed but what we do have is people pay whatever they can spare for the service, and it turned out that it created this really great community within the earn in app where people started helping each other and paying it forward and we have over 25 million thank you messages exchanged between members on the app and its been great to see that same behavior transfer from the earnin app on facebook. ainsley: i understand you had really good ratings and reviewed richard because people who used your plumbing services before could write little comments so actually even though you're doing this out of the goodness of your own heart i bet you'll
5:55 am
get more business because those folks that are in need will eventually get their jobs back and start using you every time they need a plumber, right? >> well that be good. definitely. i even drove out to georgia to help a woman who had a leak under her floor and i couldn't let that go even though she was 500 miles away. ainsley: that's very very generous of you. anila, what has this meant to you? >> i mean, its been amazing. its changed our day-to-day, it was making it so difficult for us to be able to cook and in a situation where i can't really afford to order out or anything , being able to use my sings and my water facilities, they were really necessary and it was great that i was able to find somebody come out and help me without having to dig into like my limited resources to do that. ainsley: rom, how about you what
5:56 am
are some of the reaction because if you just hear these stories and we're hearing countless stories of americans helping other americans. >> its been amazing to see people helping each other. we're all in this together, and the way we get through this crisis is by helping each other out. ainsley: okay, well thank you so much, all three of you for being here for a list of covid-19 resources in your area, you can check out earnin.com. thank you to all three of you. more inspiring stories like this visit our website foxnews .com/americatogether. we have more fox & friends coming up.
