the precinct could explode, riots raging across the city for the third night over the death of george floyd. todd: city leaders have no control over the situation, matt flynn is live in the streets of minneapolis as national guard troops are stepping in. how is it going? >> we are not far from minneapolis, the police precinct building that had to be evacuated. let's show the extensive damage, there is an ongoing fire not far from us, one of many fires we've seen across this area, thick smoke in the air and in this particular location the national guard is doing their best to maintain peace but in a couple locations i could tell you looters and rioters, using bats to smash into banks, we heard

gunshots throughout the night. a liquor store was looted, the windows smashed and in this area a lot of extensive damage, windows smashed, glass everywhere. the mayor of indianapolis explained they had to abandon the police precinct building because there was too much of a threat to life inside the building. >> if it is clear there were imminent threats to officers and public. >> the decision was made to evacuate the third precinct. >> we have activated 500 soldiers to st. paul, minneapolis, and surrounding communities to protect life, preserve property and the right

to peacefully demonstrate. a key objective is to ensure fire departments are able to respond to calls, we are witnessing the national guard facilitate the fire department and it is clear the fire department across the state will have their hands full. we've seen many fires, cars on fire and something not far in the distance causing a lot of flames and thick black smoke to kick up into the air. jillian: those people in this area is this contained a few blocks around the precinct or is this more widespread. >> my producer and i feel there are half a dozen locations where there are fires where there is a severe danger. there are a lot of people in and out of the shadows with bats, you heard gunshots allowed explosions, people setting up fireworks, a jolt to neighbors.

we need a solution that keeps what happened to our country, all the corruption we are finding out from happening, so we are not just protecting politicals, the president said over and over, he said if they can do this to me they can do it to you. what we don't want is a solution that says can't do it to politicians but they can still do it to the american people. we need to protect everyone. jillian: congressional caucus leader said they would oppose it. we have concerns is legislation does not protect people from warrantless surveillance was we can't in good conscience vote for legislation that violates americans fundamental right to privacy. what needs to be done to have the support it needs? >> we have to find a way to protect the american people. i don't think national security and our rights to privacy are antithetical.

algorithm, they picked the wrong battle, poking the bear, this is the american people that are the bear. i'm wary when you get to government and free speech, companies rights to do what they want but they should review twitter at this point and see where they stand on communications decency act, liability protections. this is a ridiculous example, twitter has no way of saying this is violence, i received worse direct threats from this on twitter and they never flagged those people. those have been from public figures who make more outrageous statements. we see this every day. the president is right to call for publicly and privately. -- >> it is not political. the president called out.

out there this morning. how will they control this? how are we going to mend a broken relationship between civilians and law enforcement? >> it isn't the first step. don't know what the mayor or leadership are thinking. we've seen this before, alleged mayor jenkins told people let them that during one of the rights they had in new york and the episode with stephanie blake, the mayor in baltimore, a similar scenario. this won't do anything to do that. the way to do it is to have community meetings in political leadership with members of the faith community, civic leaders in the community and i don't want to forget justice for the family, spoken out loudly about the incident. having a full scope of the video and what we have seen it is
