killed in minneapolis? there should be people in the streets until we get it right. black men need to shut down the black community until we get it right. >> jesse: in minneapolis, a shooting spree left one dead and 11 people injured. in new york city, gun violence is up a staggering 358% this time last year. protesters, slowing down. police responding to a shooting. >> please move away. all we are trying to do is get to the victims. >> jesse: but don't worry. it's all trump's fault. "the president bears responsibility for the violence." all right, we've been talking about this for weeks and weeks.

it's starting to happen, unfortunately. i don't know if anybody is going to hit anybody on the back, because our people are dying. this is what happens when cops pull back. >> dana: yeah, it's not a great time to be saying i told you so, but there are certainly people who are raising the alarm. now, sometimes you see violence have an uptick in the summer. this summer, and possibly increasingly so because you have an economic situation where there are a lot of jobs lost. you have no schools, very few camps. you have people who are worried about their health and social distancing. on top of that, you have the george floyd murder, the protests, some of which turned into riots and looting. the police in some cases, there are reports that they are pulling back a little bit. or in a community like you saw

in whatever they are calling it now, blocking the police from actually helping people and then being blamed for that as well. so, yes, it seems like lawlessness all across the board. something is going to happen this week and it's going to happen on wednesday. there will be a vote on senator tim because scott bill to reform police. the democrats look like they are going to defeat this bill. they would not let it go on for consideration. now, they have been working on this for years. there is an opportunity here to at least get it to the next phase for discussion. i feel like the democrats are setting themselves up for a big fail here. because if you look like you want the issue to campaign on rather than you want the issue to be solved, people will hold you accountable for that, and it will be a real shame, because this is an opportunity where you have a president willing to sign a bill, congress in a bipartisan

way, hopefully willing to do something. and the big concern and i will shut up after this, the democrats are upset that the bill doesn't have a mandatory band on certain types of policing like choke holds. now, what it does say is that there will be incentives to make sure that local police departments ban choke holds. that is similar to what happened when you have the seat belt laws or you change the drinking age from 18 to 21. used incentives from the federal government and almost always you have the states fall in line. we still do have a republic and that's what this bill would still allow, but it would make sure that police departments are actually performing so that they don't lose funding from the federal government. >> jesse: hopefully they don't use this as a campaign issue, but it would not be the first time. we have heard for days upon days from the media that this is a

safe place. it's just a bunch of people having a block party. and now it's a block party and people are getting shot and killed. >> katie: yet, people who are of african-american descent. black people who are americans are being shot and killed in these places where the police have held back by the demand of the city council members and the mayors. police are being vilified and painted with this broad brush and being accused of racism and not be entrusted. they are the ones dealing with these types of people. for example in chicago, they are the people who are dealing with criminals who are willing to go around in their own communities and killed 3-year-olds in the back of cars for whatever reason that they say fit. they do not want criminals to be

running rampant. when it comes to what democrats have been pushing so far, i think every single one of them pushes for defunding in police in this country. they need to be asked if they are okay with what happened over the weekend, whether it is ins seattle or chicago. they need to be held responsible for it. we haven't seen those questions being asked. >> jesse: juan, she brings up chicago, father's day weekend. horrible tragedy. he said something brilliant, which i have to give him credit for this. you can react to that. he says the media is very concerned about gun violence and the media is also concerned about black victims of violence. but they don't seem to be so concerned with black victims of gun violence. how would you explain that in

chicago? >> juan: i'm a little puzzled. i think people are concerned about victims of gun violence. i'm just trying to make sense of it in my mind. i think part of it, jesse is that what you are seeing is something that dana hinted about, which is that we have all-time lows in terms of crime in the country right now and we are especially during the lockdown over the coronavirus, we saw a crime even go lower. and now, it's summertime and people come a lot of people are out of work. a lot of people out of school. people are hitting the streets. so, everybody who has been involved with every firm from everything from drugs to partyio getting out of the house, they are out there now and i think you are going to see it, as is normal, bump in criminal activity. in terms of stopping this spreading of fear, i think it's important to understand that historically we are at a low point in terms of crime in this

country, and that we have to try to keep it that way. so, to me, it's an important distinction to be made. when people call for police reform, they are not saying, oh, let people go shoot each other. not at all. that to me is a huge distortion of the argument. i think what you are really talking about, and i certainly hope you are not implying that cops aren't doing their jobs, not upholding their oath. i think that what they are dealing with here -- >> jesse: not implying that. before you have people who are not attacking strangers. they are attacking each other. they are not for defunding the police. they are for police reform. the american people are for police reform so we can avoid the kind of brutality we saw with george floyd or the kind of abuse that many black people charge the police with on a regular basis.

>> jesse: all right come a day now i will you respond to juan's point. >> dan: he does this thing. i find a lot of liberals do this. they love to start the story in the middle. we are really low levels of crime historically. yeah, juan, the first6 chapters. how we got there is because of aggressive broken windows policing. i don't mean aggressive, by the way, by referring in any way to the horror show on what happened to mr. floyd. there is universal agreement that that was just grotesque to the highest order. but broken windows, aggressive policing, juan, is why we are at where we are right now. if you are suggesting that that's good, which i think most sane people would come a low-level's of crime are a good thing, i assume you are on "the five" right now supporting policing. checking them for warrants. so, i applaud you for doing

joe biden is the helpless puppet of the radical left. when you do testing to that extent, you are going to find more people, you are going to find more cases. so i said to my people, "slow the testing down, please." >> dana: a smaller than expected crowd size. katie, i think one of the things that was happening with the overpromising, under delivering on the crowd size is that in the trump campaign, they are looking for a metric to show that they are better than joe biden. so, the fund-raising, the biden campaign does it a little bit better. the poll numbers, they do it a little better. but we know that the enthusiasm gap been between trump and biden is quite large. they are very enthusiastic about doing so.

i know arizona is your hometown. what did they learn from the taltulsa experience? >> katie: i would say to verify the numbers of ticket sales of who is going to show up. the joe biden campaign and the trump campaign and the riff on the trump campaign that somehow is a failure because folks only 6,000 people showed up to the first rally in months during the end of a pandemic and in the aftermath of these riots and protests. i think it's a pretty solid argument to make, especially considering that joe biden had a town hall meeting where people were handpicked. there were 20 people there and there wasn't any enthusiasm. moving forward, i'm sure that you noted, it will not be overpromising who exactly is going to show up. you just don't know who is going

to show up. but the history of these rallies is that there are overflowing crowds. i know people who waited in line for hours to get in and never did in places like arizona. so i think that they will be just fine when it comes to getting these rallies back on the road. the majority of life is showing up. well, trump is showing up and biden is not. >> dana: juan, the trump white house explained that he was clearly joking. the white house reiterated that today, the biden campaign decided to take the ball and run with it and they are going to use that even though the president was joking. what you think about that? >> juan: well, let's just take the president's word, dana. if he thinks that's funny. i didn't find it funny. i don't think many people found it funny. the virus is pretty serious. even in places like oklahoma and arizona where he is going next,

we have seen a spike and continuation of the problem. i think this was an epic embarrassment for president trump, who has made a big, big deal out of crowd sizes. and the idea that his own campaign said it was going to be a million plus and built the stage out to have a second speech for the overflow. all of that came to not. it just didn't happen. at some point, you have to take some responsibility. that's not the media, that's the trump campaign. the other point you have to say here is that the polls were right, picking up on what katie was saying, if people were worried about the virus, it's not just democrats or the media or i don't know who, but in a deep red state like oklahoma, maybe people are worried about the virus. maybe that's one of the reasons people do not come out in the numbers that had been forecast. but overall, i would say on the merits of it, and this gets to

they are having a hard time pinning him down and defining him partly because he's not out there that much. he's kind of hard to pin down. you heard it in the president's speech in tulsa. he was talking about joe biden being the vehicle for the far left progressive, that he is just going to pull this country so far to the left. i think that is what they are zeroing in on. i would also say this. the media was all sorts of upset that hillary clinton didn't give them much access. but they don't seem to give biden a hard time about that. i would also say that sometimes doing local press is even harder. that means you really have to understand the issues. for example, in arizona, one of the most important issues is the issue of school choice and charter schools. so, you can just go there and talk about big national policy stuff if you don't have your ducks in a row as to what is

tearing down statues. french is scott key, who i need an explanation of what is going on here. they are tearing down statues of baldwin, who was an abolitionist. does that make any sense to you? >> juan: i don't know about that one. let me just speak to the teddy roosevelt one, dan. i don't think the museum or the city of new york thinks that teddy roosevelt should be somehow put out and never, ever honored for all he did for our national park, our national wildlife refuge. he's a hero. but i do think, and i would ask you, look, they have a statue of teddy roosevelt on a horse with an african man and a native american behind him, and

the museum has said it's inappropriate. teddy roosevelt's great-grandson says that's not the way he sees his great grandfather's legacy. the museum is going to name a hall for teddy roosevelt. so, to me, this is not a matter of g, where does this stop? it's where do we start? how do we to start taking down monuments, confederates who were traders of this country? how do we get nascar to celebrate taking away the confederate flag? how do we get those confederate generals and their statues all of the capital? i think that's what we've got to do. >> dan: to answer your question, i think we have to view statues for when they were made, not through the lens we have now. what is this really about? they are pulling down statues of gandhi. what is that about?

who are pulling down statues. they even took down a statue of miguel's amonte, who rode don quixote. i'm still trying to figure out that one. there are not that many historians in the mob. they are also not people who actually care about "law & order." there are ways that you can get things done. they are going to do this in a peaceful way and they are going to find a different place. maybe they will replace the teddy roosevelt statue was something else. to jesse's point, why don't we add more statues and art in our country. i think that we could use that. we could make it a part of a big cultural revolution rather than a cultural and moral, which is what we are seeing right now. >> katie: i would say that the quest for racial equality has been hijacked by a group of people. if it's about racial equality, you don't vandalize the lincoln memorial.
