work by our predecessors. >> reporter: the savings would be redirected to other city program such as education and family and social services, families hard to sit by the coronavirus. a similar move by the los angeles city council as it takes the first step to defund the lapd adopting a plan that would cut the budget by $133 million, the money saved would be reinvested in communities of color. in seattle where the city council has voted to defund its police department, barriers in the so-called choppers all were removed after murders in the area in an area occupied by the protesters, the move coming as the city's near demands the city council investigating member for leading a protest to her home, responding in a statement saying, quote, the attack on my office is an attack on the grassroots campaigns we participated in and the

progressive victories we all won together. her words are directed at me in my elected office but i don't take it personally. this is an attack on working people's movements and everything we are fighting for. those barriers in front of the abandoned east precinct have still not been removed, they are using it for grounds for continued bargaining with city officials. >> senator lindsey graham says leaders are failing the people who elected them. >> perfect storm is brewing to create real danger for the people that live in these cities. the nypd deserves better. who fills the vacuum when you cut police budgets. crooks and thugs, who suffers the most when you have us cops? for anticrime neighborhoods. what do you do if you're a working person in new york and chicago? this is dangerous.
1:05 am
it is dumb. i think most people listening to this program are scared that their country is going to lose law and order because the liberals in charge of the democratic party are going to get the cops and release everybody can't right back into the community and you will have a revolving door, bad formula for law enforcement. todd: unlike the mayor of new york city chicago merry -- mayor lori lightfoot is pushing police reform, not defunding. jillian: the department of homeland security will deploy special federal unit to protect monuments and statues this weekend with a memo exclusively obtained by fox news expect an increase in vandalism, rapid deployment teams from the protecting american communities task force will be stationed in portland, seattle and washington dc, they are trained in crowded riot control. >> donald trump briefed on intel regarding russian bounties on us

1:07 am
the democrats who attended. >> the right people to give the briefing were not in the room. we need to hear from heads up the intelligence agencies about how they assess the allegations that have been made public. >> on the campaign trail biden holding his first press conference in 89 days late into donald trump. >> the idea that somehow he didn't know or reasons being briefed is a dereliction of duty if that is the case and if he was briefed and nothing was done about this, that is a dereliction of duty. >> at the pentagon defense secretary mark esper who taught senate democrats want to testify released a statement saying although they have no corroborating evidence at this time to validate recent allegations regarding malign activity by russian personnel against us forces in afghanistan i want to assure all our service members that the department take seriously any and all potential threats against us military personnel.

week? >> one thing i heard from an employee on facebook because i didn't watch the news that day. i was too busy cleaning. i thought it was fake news at first because it was two days before we scheduled to go inside, then that lump in your through when you just want to cry just don't know how many more belows the industry can take and owners who are working so hard to get through this season. >> a lot of beach towns, you rely on the summer season, you rely on memorial day through labor day is your primary source of income. that is in towns are busy and bustling. a lot of people do make the argument that you can't necessarily wear a mask when you're indoors the restaurant eating. what would you say?
1:16 am
how are you prepared to keep all your patrons as safe as you could? what was your plan? >> we were following the protocol, we had great cleaning teams in this week, everyone has been going through the checks every morning wearing their masks things vigilant, more than we normally are which is an industry that does take sanitation really seriously to begin with. we put signage up, not allowed customers into that you don't have masks and as you said we are going into a holiday weekend, we lost quite a bit of our early system, mother's day, holidays that usually boost us. to lose the ability to have inside during the holiday, we don't have outside covers when it rains we can't bring people
1:17 am
inside to dine. we can take reservations so we're just winging it every time we open the door and it is not only hurting me and my business but it is hurting all the staff because they are confused and unsure what the day brings for them financially and it has been really stressful on everyone. >> you say you're being punished because other bar and restaurant owners did not follow the rules. why do you say that? >> i have ten eight-year-olds. when one does something wrong i don't send them both to a timeout. idea with the issue. if communication is what worries me, we strive in our business to constantly work on teaching staff how to communicate so we can help them. we are not communicating with the business community it is crippling to us. we ordered food, picked up our sanitation because even though
1:18 am
25% isn't going to save us it does make it so the customer has to be able to freely going to the venue, to use the bathroom, to use or inside space so you have to clean all of whether you are using 5%, 10% or 100% so measures that go into that, my cleaning crew hasn't been coming regularly because we haven't been inside. i brought them back, they were so excited. they haven't worked in 3 months. now i have to call them and tell them they are not working again. it is not just me. we have the same meet guy. they are affected. so many go out into the world. >> coronavirus cases and got up in new jersey, 760 according to the latest number, that is between saturday and tuesday so that's the number we are looking at of the reason for this pause in the shutdown. we will continue to follow this, thank you for joining us, keep us updated. thank you.

1:24 am
because she didn't want to upset the activist base of seattle which means far to the left. mayor durkin is up for reelection, she wanted to make sure this base wouldn't feel empowered to back someone further to the left of her but now she has to get off pretty much every single person because quite a few of is reasonable folks in seattle say this is untenable, it needs to change. todd: let's talk about what the chop people want, the new demands, they want to remove qualified immunity, officers tried by an independent international tribunal on counts of war crimes, release amnesty for all protesters, community service requirements for officers and they want to change the name to de-escalation officers.
1:25 am
now the mob wants more. what message does this send to leaders, governors and mayors and the rest of the country? >> it tells folks who are dealing with this you can't just give into the fringe. there's nothing wrong with peaceful protesters, nothing wrong with having meaningful, rational conversations with members of the community including activists but there are fringe folks who cannot the reasons with. the demand list is not in the purview of the city of seattle, the city of seattle can't end qualified immunity for police officers, that would have to happen in the states. a lot of times they are putting a bunch of different things against the wall hoping something will stick but meanwhile early monday morning we had a second murder, a second
1:26 am
black teenager killed, 60-year-old killed dr. nicole saphier-year-old killed the cause of gunshot wounds suffered at chop. at some point the city has to be the adult, have to step up and that is all across the country. we see where this is going. >> in the 30 seconds remaining another layer to this onion, the mayor of seattle wants an investigation into a protest outside her house, the councilman who led the charge, let's read the mayor's full-screen, policy disagreements do not justify a councilmember who uses their position in violation of law or undermines the safety of others for political theater. this looks to me like an example of protests are all well and good unless they impact me. >> the mayor says chop was a block party, summer of love. when they come outside your home
1:27 am
the issue was completely peaceful, it shows the hypocrisy of this mayor. >> this is a situation we are going to follow for weeks and months to come. we appreciate your insight. jillian, over to you. jillian: a st. louis man defend his actions after confronting protesters in st. louis. >> i was literally afraid and within seconds they would surmount the wall, come into the house, kill us, burn the house down and everything i worked for. >> the attorney general causes the city violent assault, the latest in the criminal probe. >> donald trump failed us. it seems our wartime presidents surrendered, waived the white flag. >> a biden's wait for the president and his first press conference in 89 days, donald trump still has an edge, she joins us live. they line up by the thousands.

pausing were business reopening for 30 days. >> after nearly three months without a press conference the presumptive democrat nominee joe biden uses a rare appearance in front of reporters to take aim at the president. >> other leaders and other countries took necessary steps to get the virus under control donald trump failed us and seems like our wartime presidents surrendered, waived the white flag. >> good to see you this morning, thanks for joining us. what did you think of the speech? >> the speech was a snooze fest, the first time joe biden stepped out of his basement to speak with the press in months and there wasn't anything he said that got his base energized was he criticized the president a
1:33 am
lot for his response to coronavirus, there's plenty of criticism to go around but he said if he becomes president he will ask doctor anthony fauci to stay on, this is the man who is leading and advising the president on his approach to coronavirus. what changed? he would have more of a top-down approach to reopening the economy meaning when new york city has a massive outbreak, small towns and counties have to wait for them to get new york to get their spread out of control. it wasn't surprising, he attacked the president regarding mostly his coronavirus response but didn't say anything about the way new york and his fellow democrats have handled cases in their state so it really wasn't energizing or inspiring.
1:34 am
todd: limited appearances, friendly press corps, attack the president especially when polls show him with commanding leads even in those battleground states. >> reporter: this is donald trump's election to lose. biden certainly is going up in the polls. what does that tell you about his campaign? it tells you there is nothing inspiring or energetic he can say to get people excited about a biden presidency. this is why he did in his basement for so long, refused to engage the press because when he does we often see a lot of gaffes. we are reminded of his age. a lot of us to the day he steps on the debate stage with donald trump and goes head to head and
1:35 am
answers a lot of questions the few times he does go in front of the media they are not asking tough questions a lot of americans want to hear an answer to. jillian: biden had a lot to say on a number of topics, reveals plans to release supreme court nominees in the great diverse group of women, listen to what he has to say. >> we are putting together a list of a group of african-american women who are qualified and have experienced to be in the courts. i'm not going to release that until we go forward down the line. >> your response? >> we are all for more diversity and more women on the supreme court at every level of government but the increasing
1:36 am
role identity politics is playing on the left is dangerous. i don't think anyone wants to be nominated to the supreme court or to land any sort of job-based on super official characteristics like their race or gender? we need to ensure that americans have equal opportunities, not equal outcomes. that means having a larger conversation about policies such as school choice that will enable every american to compete with the types of jobs like a sitting justice on the supreme court so they don't have to depend on rely on superficial characteristics like race or skin, but their qualifications and merit. jillian: have a good day. a lawyer defending actions after he and his wife gave national attention to protecting their

1:39 am
significance but was proposed by benjamin netanyahu and as things are shaping up today it appears now annexation is going to take place right now. according to the foreign minister of israel he assumes it is not going to happen today. the jordan valley and west bank in the distance, that is the jordan valley. and certain plans this could be annexed by israel but that group of buildings you see is an israeli settlement. there is a group of buildings closer to where we are standing, palestinian village. if the annexation moves forward you could see the israelis connecting that city in the distance to the lands just behind us and this would make it more difficult for palestinians to move in the area. for palestinian factions inside gaza and politicians in the west bank trying to push back from these plans. we know the right now there are rallies taking place in gaza,
1:40 am
calling for now annexation. additionally last week we saw the palestinian political party in the west bank holding a rally in the city of jericho. all this as benjamin and yahoo is working with the americans in terms of holding meetings with the man who worked alongside jared kushner and the trump administration to hand out what the administration looks like, donald trump already moved the embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem recognizing jerusalem as the capital of israel, both of these moves maybe deal of the century peace plan dead on arrival according to palestinians that spoke to folks in the west bank and gaza as things are shaping up today, now annexation is going to take place but we will see that resistance, hamas, the group the control gaza has called annexation a declaration of war.

>> we are having 40 plus thousand new cases a day. i would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around. the drug remdesivir diminishes the time it takes to get to recovery. >> a huge spike in covid-19 cases if we can't get things under control as the fda clears a new drug that is clinically
1:45 am
proven to shorten coronavirus recovery times. todd: the new drug comes at the perfect time, he joins us now. what is the latest remdesivir news? >> good morning. it is a good thing, a positive step. the drug remdesivir decreased the length of time of the illness for recovery by four days if you're in the hospital which is very significant if you are severely ill, health and human services has requisitioned 500,000 courses of this drug from the manufacturer, gilead sciences manufacturing. that means enough to provide for anybody in the hospital and sick for sure. $3,200 but that money will be
1:46 am
covered by insurance. medicare will cover it and private insurance will cover it. this is a way of making sure we have a treatment available and it will be useful and divide the hospitals by the states and services. jillian: aside from finding more therapeutics and a vaccine, what else does it mean to get a grip on this, a handle on this virus? i have a friend in another state in washington dc who was around a group of people, thought he was potentially infected, tried to get a test and was told you can't unless you have symptoms. that is a perfect example how someone can a symptomatically spread this new the community. do we need more testing? don't know what we meet but what will it take to get a grip on this? >> we need more testing and a kind of test that works very rapidly and nasal swab is a more modern up-to-date way to do
1:47 am
that. we need that ramped up into production so you can test everybody in an area where there is a positive case, that is one way to get a grip on this. another way to get a grip on it is when we reopen everyone understandably felt so restrained they jumped over the restraints and started doing things that put health at risk. that is why bars have to close, why we can't have indoor restaurants the way we were moving in the direction of movie theaters. a lot of indoor activities people were taking advantage, especially young people and young adults taking advantage. a lot of spread has been occurring in bars, elevators and indoor places. as the summer comes we have to say wait a minute, maybe reopening happen too soon in certain ways. i call it a surgical treatment for the reopening, but cut down on activities where there's a lot of spread going on.

>> it was obviously covid-19, then murder hornets and now doctor anthony fauci says keep an eye on the latest strain of swine flu. >> chinese in the last week and a half have identified a virus, you always have the possibility of might have another swine flu type outbreak as we head into thousand 9, something to keep an eye on. todd: we haven't had enough given to us by 2020, how worried should we be by the latest swine flu? >> you think we don't have enough to worry about, here comes another pandemic. let me reassure you. i've been studying flu for my entire career and most of the time the vast majority of the time it never makes the final species jump. this swine flu is a cousin to
1:49 am
the h1 in one 2009 swine flu pandemic that affected 60 million people but is only a cousin and currently infected swine workers in china about 10% of them getting some antibodies to it showing they are exposed but are not getting that second it is not getting to the point it is spreading easily human to human. the vast majority of these never make that mutation, never make that jump. to answer the question you have on this it is covered partly in the flu shot, the current flu shot it is partly covered. i don't expect it to get there. it is worth keeping an eye on. it is not worth being afraid of. we have enough to be afraid of right now. jillian: we have questions in the commercial break. thank you for that information. >> my question. jillian: we will be right back. and honest bidding site. an ipad worth $505, was sold for less than $24; a playstation 4 for less than $16; and a schultz 4k
