6:01 am
police department for failing to protect his son. police officers moved in yesterday to clear the chop zone, something anderson said should have been done weeks ago. >> they should have been doing something about this a long time ago. and i don't, you know, like i said i understand black lives matter and all that, but that was my son. i'm not with all this, whatever is going on. but i don't know anything about that. of all i know is this is my son and i love him. >> emily: christina coleman is live in los angeles with more on all this. christina, good morning. >> this father is still searching for answers and wanting to know exactly what happened to his son leading up to his death. police say horace lorenzo anderson jr. is one of two
6:02 am
victims killed in the four shootings that happened over the top zone in the last few weeks. about 100 police officers swarmed to the area reclaiming their east precinct and cleaning out the occupied zone. many cd leaders felt enough was enough. crimes including assault and vandalism rose from the 500% in the area since protesters took over that space and that there were those two deadly shootings in that area. at least 31 people have been arrested. in the meantime people who live and work in that space say they have had to tolerate all of this mess and violence. as for horace lorenzo anderson jr., he was shot in the protest on june 20th. his father said the police and seattle's mayor didn't reach out about his son's death and every day for him is hard. >> all i know is my son got killed up there and he is just a 19-year-old. that's horace lorenzo anderson, that's my son. you know, and i love him.
6:03 am
and that was my son. >> a federal lawsuit has been filed by some business owners and people who live in the area claiming the city was too lenient. they should be blamed for all of the violence. >> emily: christina coleman on that. >> trace: it's there's accusations that there were bounties paid to kill american troops in afghanistan's and he says if that actually happened he will take action. >> president trump: we never heard about it because intelligence never found it to be of that level where it would rise to that end.
6:04 am
i think it's a hoax. i think it's a hoax by the newspapers and the democrats. >> kristin fisher is live for us on the north lawn. >> that intelligence whatever it is will be front and center. this time the referrers are going to be the directors of the nsa and the cia. so the focus of this briefing is going to be on what exactly that intelligence is behind these russian bounties and u.s. troops, and members of congress also want to know who at the white house knew about this intelligence and when. secretary of state mike pompeo was asked if he knew about it yesterday by bret baier and here's what he said. >> i'm not trying to be clever. there's so much that has been reported that is not accurate.
6:05 am
and that's how they actually resolve and figure out what's going on. >> "the new york times" is out with a new report putting a price on these russian bounties, as much as $100,000 for every american soldier killed it, paper reports. seth moulton who is a former marine corps officer is now leveling some very serious accusations against president trump. >> if this isn't treason, i don't know what is. as a second lieutenant if i disregarded an intelligence report, didn't bother to read it and i got my marines killed it, i wouldn't be tweeting excuses, i would be in prison. >> it will be very interesting to watch and see how the members of the gang of eight respond as with what they learned in this very classified briefing. it's relatively rare that we even know about a gang of eight briefing meeting but, the
6:06 am
white house knows that that is what happens when classified intelligence is leaked out into the open like this. >> trace: kristin fisher live for us in the white house. thank you. >> emily: and for more on all this let's bring in senator tom cotton. he joins us now. senator cotton, great to have you here this morning and lots to get to. first i want to put up on the screen, this is top democrats unveiling this amendment to sanction putin. it includes this, asset freeze and visa ban, expanded sanctions, making restrictions across russia's defense program. but senator and unveiling this amendment, those top democrats including menendez himself said that the president has proven once again that he is incapable of protecting american troops in this country. how do you respond to that? >> sandra, i would say that once
6:07 am
again you can't trust anything "the new york times" reports about russia and a donald trump. "the new york times" revealed why it's a national laughingstock. member the story they printed that the president had been briefed on definitive intelligence of russian bounties on american troops in afghanistan? we now know that there was no definitive intelligence. there was strong dissent within the intelligence community and a career briefer at the cia chose not to highlight this to the president. and that there remains disagreement within the intelligence community. we also know that nancy pelosi, chuck schumer and adam schiff have had access to the same intelligence for months yet they haven't been taking access on it and screaming in front of the cameras until "the new york times" published the story. as far as being tough on russia president trump has been far tougher than president obama ever was.
6:08 am
president trump sent antitank missiles. president trump has pulled out of obsolete treaties despite democrats responding to it. i'm always open to taking a tougher line on russia but the allegation and "the new york times" are simply false as they usually are. >> emily: so the president, it would appear that you are backing him up and calling him a hoax. after the briefing they are saying what we heard and there would not indicate that this was a hoax. then you had mike pompeo saying so much of this is not accurate, this is an incomplete picture. but he says it's getting in the way of him finding out the true details of the story. so isn't there more to learn here, senator cotton? >> what's regrettable is that someone in the intelligence
6:09 am
community or perhaps in a partner nations intelligence community decided to leak partial and incomplete intelligence. intelligence services often get that kind of partial incomplete or conflicting evidence. they don't always run to the president or the prime minister to share it with them until it's verified and corroborated and until they understand the fuller picture. again, it's clear now from what ambassador brian has said and what others in the administration and said. these are matters they would normally be talking about, but there was strong disagreement inside of our intelligence community about whether or not this intelligence was correct or not. as the president said if he was briefed on intelligence that suggested there were bounties on american soldiers then he would take action on it. that's not what happened about because of that this agreement. just look at what the democrats have done to politicize this matter. president trump authorized the killing of qassem soleimani who,
6:10 am
no question, was responsible for the deaths of thousands of americans. the democrats were saying he was going to start a war which didn't happen but they were simply using another fake story from "the new york times" for political gain. >> emily: do you support the democrats calls to further sanction putin? >> i am always worried about what russia is up to which is why i supported things like sending lethal weapons to ukraine or withdrawing from absolute cold war treaties or opposing obama era treaties that tie our hands and give china and russia lay upper hand when it comes to nuclear forces. every time china takes a tough action on russia, the democrats who beat their just so hard to come they didn't send it with the weapons to the ukraine. they always roll over in the middle east standing up for russia's allies like iran. the democrats are not the ones who are taking a tough line on
6:11 am
russia here, it's president trump. >> sandra: i want to finish off by asking you about this debate that's happening. in some cases bipartisan calls to rename some of these l terry basis tied to figures from the confederacy, chuck schumer last night on the house armed services committee passing this bill forcing the pentagon to change the names of some of these military bases within the next year. the president is threatening to veto the annual senate defense bill and it includes the renaming of some of these piec pieces. >> president trump will not veto a bill that it contains a pay raise support our troops into crucial support for our military. this is nothing but typical bluster from president trump. the nda will pass and we will scrub from our military bases the names of men who fought for the confederacy and took up arms against our country.
6:12 am
>> sandra: mitch mcconnell has spoken out against the president's threat to veto that bill. he says i hope the president really wouldn't veto the bill over that issue. do you support the president start to do so? >> sandra, chuck schumer is misleading about what the senate bill will do. we are debating this very nature, it's far more radical and far more sweeping than a handful of bases. it would require the ripping down of war memorials to dead soldiers from the confederacy in arlington national cemetery or fort bragg. and potentially other cemeteries as well. it would require removing artifacts and exhibits for military museums. it would require the removal of paintings of battle scenes from the civil war from west point and other military installations. that is a sweeping, sweeping proposal that is a little more than historical vandalism. i don't think the president will have to act on that veto threat, and i hope you won't because i want to change that legislation to ensure that we don't take
6:13 am
such radical, radical steps. >> sandra: before i let you go, where is their common grou ground? should those military bases be renamed? >> i think we should take the time in a deliberate and thorough fashion to study the question. we should get the input o of the who have served. many of them not even knowing the origin of the names. now i know that the alumni of fort benning, and they have the time to take surveys and
6:14 am
>> sandra: jack keane shares a similar sentiment and understands a call to change the names of some of these bases, and there are families that are tied to those bases as well. senator tom cotton, thank you for being here with us this morning. >> trace: protesters defacing monuments and tearing down statues of the american generals and presidents aiming to rewrite history instead of celebrating it. if they got their way, with the council the fourth of july? plus new virus hot spots shifting gears as we enter the holiday weekend. what some of the biggest states are doing to control the spread. >> people kind of thought it was over because our numbers are very low. very consistent all through may

taken down yesterday and richmond, virginia, christopher columbus is now gone from outside of city hall and in these days of widespread protest for change in social justice, dan henniker is the fox news contributor. always good to see you. you write in your op-ed that this is a very important fourth of july. it's the first time in a long time that america is in a revolutionary moment. and i'm quoting, the moment the fourth of july was celebrated by everyone in the u.s. and that liz is what we see fit.
6:21 am
>> they've taken down one statue after another, and one thing we will be able to do is eliminate the fourth of july unless we get rid of the counter itself. the fourth of july is a tradition celebrated annually by americans everywhere and there will probably be fewer fourth of july day parades because of the pandemic. but what o is this that we celebrate. what i've been recommending to people in my column is that we spend some time this fourth of july weekend actually reading the text of the declaration itself. it's less than 1500 words a long and we will see what a real revolution sounds like as opposed to one in the streets right now. people right there were working
6:22 am
with a sense of optimistic defiance. john adams, samuel adams and they were creating and building a new nation. the revolutionaries in the elites and affirmation, they were acting as sort of a defeatist attitude towards the american idea and rather than build the nation literally it has been and if you would look at the text of what the original founders wrote and were separating themselves from the united kingdom in 1776. >> trace: i think a lot of people, and they are turned on

these monuments across the country. >> yes, i am. that is why i write that we are in a revolutionary moment right now. i think the protesters themselves probably wouldn't get very far on their own. we seen that many, many interviews with them and invariably they have a very difficult time describing what it is that they want. your ideas are not well shaped, they are diffuse, and they probably peter out after a while. what has made this important is the quick ascent from all of the elites in the country and the media is all affirming that agreement with what these protesters are doing and that is why i think we are in a revolutionary moment. it's a big deal when the establishment begins to agree with people arguing in the streets with what these individuals are doing. i think people are stunned and

>> sandra: he's apparently going to talk about the economy, fixed jobs numbers coming out with 4.8 million jobs added in june. the unemployment rate dropped to 11.1%. it was maybe in the next minute or so, or 2 minutes. we will bring you that as soon as it happens live, right here.
6:30 am
>> president trump>> sandra: ind like the june job report and it smashed expectations. that's the second straight month of jobs added since they lost a record of 20 and a half million jobs. a triple digit game here on the opening bell, almost 400 points to the upside. this was another shocker. >> it shows that the economy started to bounce back in may and that bounce back accelerated in a big way in the month of june. going through those numbers, those are record numbers and of course we've never lost jobs the way we did in march and april but to gain them back a at this pace did surprise a lot of people. 4.8 million is a huge number and
6:31 am
the unemployment rate which is up about 13% comes back to just above 11%. so that should drive stocks higher from here. remember the nasdaq and all the tech stocks and already coming in, we will see how much further we can keep going. the jobs numbers are terrific right now and there is the sustainability question at the virus outbreak that we've been reporting on, texas, florida, arizona and others have because the governor and no cool officials to pause the reopens and also some individual companies. apple is a good example, it's close 77 stores that have reopened and we close them if you well. so let's watch these numbers but they were much, much better-than-expected and it does show that the american economy was raring to go and ready to bounce back. now let's see if we can keep going. >> sandra: what are you hearing about the stock market?
6:32 am
the comeback from what we have seen, the lows during the pandemic and we were talking about this with the neil cavuto yesterday. the dow is back about 26,000 in these major averages are back within arms reach of record highs again. >> it's been a whirlwind. it's crazy to think, it doesn't seem -- then to come all the way back to 18 and a change to your point, the speed of the movement i think throughout this entire time, from the pandemic and other bounce back from that has been different, even from people that have been in the market and in the investing world for many years, they've never seen movement this fast. days when they move a thousand points or 2,000 points. then obviously preceding that, you had some of the worst times. at the speed of movement is something like we haven't seen.
6:33 am
there are questions about some of the individual stocks and as i mentioned the tech stocks earlier have risen to new highs and maybe they are getting ahead of themselves, we will see. the market has a way of correcting itself, but what's driving it right now is the federal reserve, number one, and all the liquid to see and that the fed has put into the system, and also the virus. so now we reopen that there is but as we said earlier as other states become concerned, there is a question of sustainability. so if that question is out there for the sustainability, it's also out there for the stock market. we have been driven in large part by how the states to over the next few weeks. >> sandra: and of course you just have the president sending out a tweet saying he is going to be giving this press briefing live from the white house. except for 9:30 a.m., and we will go live with begins. it's tough to find much to
6:34 am
criticize in this report, but i am just now getting a statement from chuck schumer's team and he says today's jobs report may just be a slight peak in a much larger valley. unless president trump demonstrates world leadership in fighting this health crisis, and obviously if the pandemic has a resurgence or we have a second wave of this he's calling on the president to lead us through this. i guess you could make the case, and wall street analysts are making a similar case that we don't get a vaccine, we can't fully recover and obviously there's a possibility of a second wave. but obviously that's a way that chuck schumer is looking at this report this morning. >> we've been talking about that and that's exactly what we were mentioning a moment ago. you can take the numbers and put whatever spin you want to on it but all of that is essentially, the virus comes back, and that
6:35 am
will slow down an economic recovery. i think it's interesting what we heard even from some of the wall street firms in recent days, that governors and businesses will be reluctant to have the type of lockdown that we've had in the past which is why you had goldman sachs. the message is if we do the right thing and protect ourselves and protect others, and we won't have to lock down the economy of the way we had. today's news is good. >> okay. we are looking live at the white house press briefing room, we received a two-minute warning so we should be seeing the president a short time from now. i see the president walking out. we will take a quick pause here for a moment as we get this jobs report for june, smashing
6:36 am
expectations. we are going to take a quick pause to let our other fox stations join us from across the country as we await the president. president trump live at the white house, fox news coverage begins now. let's listen. speak to the united states economy added almost 5 million jobs in the month of june shattering expectations. i was watching this morning and the expectations were much lower than that. the stock market is doing extremely well which means jobs. the largest monthly jobs gained in the history of our country. the unemployment rate fell by 12 percentage points down to just about 11%. we are down to the 11% number and we started at a number very much higher than that.
6:37 am
as you know we broke the record last month and broke it again this month in an even bigger way. this news comes on top of may's extraordinary jobs report which was revised upwards by the way to 2.7 million jobs. it was 2.5 last month and that was a record setter but it actually got a little bit better. we revised it and it was revised upward to 2.7 million jobs. for a combined total of 7.5 million jobs created in the last two months and that's a record by many millions of jobs. that 7.5 million jobs created in the last seven months alone. it today's announcement proves that our economy is roaring back, we have some areas where we are putting out the flames of the fires and that's working out very well. i think it's working out very well. i think you'll see that shortly.
6:38 am
in a june we added 2.1 million leisure jobs, and 568,000 education and health care jobs. 357,000 service jobs, these are all historic numbers, and 356,000 manufacturing jobs. manufacturing looks like it's really ready to take off at a level it's never done before. we are bringing manufacturing back to our country and these take a long time to get going and they are now going. so these are historic numbers and i'm really happy when i see 356,000 manufacturing jobs and that's a small number compared to what it will be soon. african-american workers really happily for me with 440,000 jobs
6:39 am
added last month alone which is a record. and the second largest jump will be last month, and what you have if you add the two months together would be 700,000 jobs were african-american workers. and in the last two months, that's a record by a lot. that's a 1.5 million jobs, a record by a lot. 3 million more women were employed in the month of june. for the record and never had a number like that. workers with a high school education or the last me the biggest rise of all. people who have a high school education or have less than a high school education, that dropped 3.3 percentage points
6:40 am
which is the largest drop in recorded history. and we think we are going to have some very good numbers in the coming months and especially as we put the flameout. new business applications have doubled since late march which is a number that is not even thinkable to achieve. this early into a pandemic. the latest ism rate manufacturing report rose ten percentage points with new orders jumping are a remarkable 25 percentage points. consumer confidence, which is great, that's a great number to me because that means competence is really good. it's like a life, if you don't have confidence you are not going to do very well.
6:41 am
that's an all-time high, and much of it is totally fake news. we have consumer confidence that has risen 12 points since april. retail sales surge an astonishing 18%. that's the largest increase in the history of our country and that is a tremendous number. 18%, and what it means to me is jobs.
6:42 am
fewer workers will be dropping out of the labor force and the greatest is being handled. something to think about, china was way early and they are getting under control just now. and they are getting under control. we follow them with this terrible china virus. and we are likewise getting under control some areas that were very hard hit and are now doing very well. some were doing very well and we thought they may be gone and would flare up and we are putting out the fires. but other places were long before us and they are now -- it's got a life. and we are putting out that life because it's a bad life that we are talking about.
6:43 am
all of this suggested that workers are confident about finding a new job. the stock market is soaring with the best gains in over 20 years. in the second quarter of the dow jones increased 18%. if these are not numbers that people have heard about, it's the best in 33 years. the s&p 500 increased by almost 30%, and, a phenomenal number and if you look since the election, the dow went up close to 45%.
6:44 am
and the nasdaq composite we are not getting close 200%. and they want to raise taxes no all of this incredible news is the result of historic actions , they could have stopped it. through the paycheck protection program we have extended over
6:45 am
$520 billion in loans to 5 million small businesses, saving and supporting the jobs of tens of millions of american workers which has been a tremendous success. levels that no one has seen before and some of them will be large businesses. we also rushed urgently needed relief to hardworking taxpayers. and you talk about more money being infused, and, they are

vanquishing and killing the virus and protecting americans at the highest risk which allows those at lower risk to return safely to work, and that is what is happening. our health experts continue to address the temporary hot spots in certain cities and counties and we are working very hard on that, for the relationship of the governors is very good and we made a call, mike pence made a call just yesterday and said, what do you need to, not one governor needed anything, they don't need anything. they have all the medical equipment they can have. thank you u.s. government. they have all the ventilators they have, we are giving many ventilators and selling them in some cases and giving when needed, but we are the ventilator king. we are now producing thousands of ventilators. thousands of ventilators a week. and we are helping other countries and other countries are desperately in need of
6:47 am
ventilators because this is now at 189 countries. it changes all the time, that number. our last count was 18 189 counts and many of them don't have money and almost all of them don't have the capacity to build a ventilator which is hard to build, and we have assembly lines building ventilators. that includes base covering, and it's certainly egregious. we got a great ruling from the

and in fact, it was an amazing 283 black americans to get jobs but more of them came into the labor force which skewed that unemployment number. and that's the most, and i was looking at this before we came on. she we are asking about the jobless claims, and it ticked up a little bit. these numbers go up and down in the focus is never going to be in these press conferences on the pluses which is a shame because what this country needs right now more than anything else is to appreciate that we are heading in the right direction. every single american needs to have a glimmer of hope, a glimmer of hope that they can
