from 2006. the suspect gets away. he's on the run for three months. and the end three troopers were shot, one was killed and this is one of the largest manhunt in state history, tell me how someone who's not trained in law enforcement could handle something like this. i covered this is a news anchor and it was horrifying. >> this is one of the most absurd things coming out of berkeley and plenty of absurdity has come out of berkeley in the past. i love the councilman's description, a landmark public safety effort. this is insanity. i went over some of the statistics they are quoting as far how dangerous they are and they are misinforming the public. they referred -- it is not dangerous to stop cars was only 6 cops were killed last year.

that is a lie. 12 police officers died during traffic stops last year and they said only two officers were assaulted. it is mind-boggling that they give misinformation on something as important as this was they talk about traffic stops. let's talk about one of the biggest mass murders in united states history, the bombing of oklahoma city. do you remember how timothy mcveigh was arrested? a routine traffic stop for a minor violation. to put civilian workers in position to approach cars where they don't know if the suspect is a wanted criminal, is armed, under the influence, makes no sense whatsoever and is only going to lead to more tragedy.

rob: right outside san francisco, one of the most liberal places in the country, unarmed employees responding to traffic stops, not armed police officers, unarmed safety collision responding for homeless outreach paid for by cutting the police budget by 54%. they are saying de-escalation is the point. cops not with guns, situations don't turn as violent as they could. tell me why they are wrong. >> it is absurd. this is the berkeley bubble. they live in some weird utopian world where facts don't make a difference to them. officers being injured in the line of duty, being shot in the line of duty during these traffic stops. the number is legion, as far as

2006 this has been one of the most deadly aspects of being a police officer so that reality is very real. i get contacted by police officers who have been seriously injured in the line of duty. we work with these officers. i know firsthand how dangerous it is besides 34 years i spent as a cop and had armed encounters on multiple occasions with offenders for simple traffic stops and this is one of the major tools law enforcement uses to solve crimes. berkeley doesn't want crimes being solved because this is one of the major tools that officers use. how is this going to take place? i don't know how they will do it. jillian: thank you for joining

>> we have new information, lawmakers demanding answers, senator holly's letter revealed some vulnerabilities that indicate everything we saw there might be more to it than that. he talked about how the database could have been compromised the 130 accounts were targeted, not just the most prominent ones, the idea of compromise direct messages were revealed, most incriminating ideas twitter said they are investigating other malicious activity and pieces of information so there may be more to this than meets the eye and information is coming out usually from twitter sources itself but we need to keep an eye on that. there might be more to it. jillian: there are 130 targeted by the attackers. a lot of people are not on

social media especially older generation, how big is this? why should they care? why should everyone care about this? >> this has implications for election security. the idea of the united states and democracy is having trust in institutions and things that purvey information people trust. if there's an undermining of trust where people don't believe the information they are getting. if you look what happened, they try to mitigate the attack by shutting down national weather service information during a tornado warning or severe weather, people look at us for real-time information and trusting the sources of information and can't make sure they are getting it from verified people then there will be a question in their head about what they are seeing at all times.

it doesn't help when cyber criminals, for profit criminals are on the forums purveying information that isn't this, senator roger wicker said it cannot be overstated and how troubling this incident is. many who follow notable figures on twitter believe the posts they see from these figures are legitimate. that trust has been violated for monetary gain of the hacker. how bad does this hurt twitter and what should it do now? >> the thing twitter can do is be open and transparent with the american public. that is the greatest constituency, trust is what matters and will keep people coming back to these platforms. we've seen a shift and a lot of conservatives going to parlors, people will seek their own sources of information if they can't trust twitter with their data security and privacy. what stands out to be his this
