5:00 pm
and we will see you back here tomorrow night. and tucker carlson is coming up next. musical physical >> tucker: good evening and welcome to the "tucker carlson tonight." for more than two centuries, the u.s. senate has required support of at least 60 senators before they passed major pieces of legislation and that makes for a cumbersome system. it requires compromise and patients. it has endured through the centuries. despite leadership of the body, and that standard, of 60 votes
5:01 pm
often referred to as the filibuster rule, and it's a democracy, and so when people note, you had better be certain that a large majority of your citizens support what you are doing as a principle behind the system of government. whatever you do as a lawmaker, you better be thoughtful about it. whatever you are doing is wise and won't hurt her grandchildren in ways that you hadn't bothered to think through and that's why for 214 years we required a super majority in the senate. it's not just an arcane piece of senate procedure, i wonder if people with different attitudes took control of people in our system. what if these new people didn't care about the wisdom, what if
5:02 pm
they didn't believe in democracy? what if they consider debate and persuasion, winning people over? instead, intended to rule by force. what if all these people carried about with power? it would be an obstacle in your path to total control. they never were directed about anything. in fact they despise clear and precise english. instead they would rely on feline misdirection, they lie about everything. they themselves were committing, and if they wanted to turn the party into a one-party state, they wouldn't say that out loud. instead, anyone who oppose that goal of "partisanship, they wouldn't even smile as they said
5:03 pm
it. watch. >> when the democrats have the white house again, if mitch mcconnell tries to do what he did to president obama and put small minded partisanship ahead of solving a massive country, we should get rid of the filibuster. >> small minded partisanship. they served the u.s. senate for decades and supported the filibuster when he was there. we will cut them out of the conversation. >> they suggested that we be open to eliminating the filibuster if republicans obstruct the agenda. are you more receptive to taking a look behind that?
5:04 pm
job number one is to get the majority. the second we take control, we are getting rid of the filibuster. >> how do we justify, and on what grounds. we justify that the same way we justified tearing down ancient statues. and they wrote a piece, because apparently and, there's a lot at
5:05 pm
stake in this conversation. but the last check and balance gone, there will be no limit to the ways that the democratic party can remake the country in the first few months and the power. we don't have to guess about their plans, they told us what they have plans to do and without, that's criminals and behavior and crushes independent media voices in this channel. that past a lunatic prenew deal which does nothing for the environment and does an awful lot for the control of the country.
5:06 pm
they will call that immigration reform. their core voters are demanding they do all that. this conversation i take passes most people's attention because it contains the word filibuster. tell us why it's important to the country. >> like i said tucker without the filibuster, there is no minority voice. democrats would not ever need to approach a moderate republican,
5:07 pm
and if they have 53 or 54 senators they would need to approach christensen amount or joe manchin either. they are all democrats in their own party which would be ostracized as well. 51 voigt votes, and a very radical piece of legislation. people forget how hard obamacare was to pass. they just bury barely passed, and they could have passed socialized medicine. and that's much further than they have now, and giving citizenship to people. and there is a nancy pelosi weighing up the democratic party. and a planet with the electoral college and they are moving
5:08 pm
forward and forward and forward and these are the same hypocrites mind you that sat there for three and a half years screaming that donald trump was attacking every democratic institution in the country and that is their exact plan if they come to power. and that's a fundamental question. some democratic leaders are expressing for anyone disagrees. like anyone who doesn't have my views as in the way of progress and must be silenced, ignored and crushed. that's not how it democracy is going to work and that's not how it has worked. there are both parties i don't have a say anymore, that's a
5:09 pm
hard core activists, protest, they will get that's who they are appealing to. we are trying to make it more fair and getting more health care, but we are going to appeal to the donor class. they are going to stop the program and won't have any problem with it whatsoever. you won't see that the ever-expanding government with a solution and then, if there is another quiet chance for a republican president and republican congress, they will lose their minds about this again. this is their goal, this is their goal to sit there and radically change the country and under a year and bring us into our new dark age where there is -- you a grade with woke agenda.
5:10 pm
, if you agree to this plan, even any moderate conservative voices. it is that fundamental. if they didn't stop for a second saying orange man bad and donald trump is bad, we could have a clear, coherent conversation about how we can take this country forward to. >> that's better than i explained it. this is great, thank you. the white house press briefing exists for a reason and it's supposed to be a chance for you to be represented by the media. that is no longer what is happening and hasn't been for quite some time. now it has become an actual sideshow. al jazeera correspondent kimberly hawken at the briefing.
5:11 pm
>> there are questions about mass may not voting and i know that you don't want to hear them which is why you talk over me but i encourage you to will read the >> tucker: is so huge controversy broke out today many heard a slur, swearing >> thank you. so, did she swear the white house press secretary? we don't know, i could kind of see both sides of that. why would a white house reporter
5:12 pm
do that, because creating a moment like that almost tailor-made for social media to transform an unknown blogger into a twitter star in just a few minutes. that phenomenon explains the existence. so he got more likes on social media. meanwhile, the country is whirling, and instead, pardon me ma'am. if i may ask on the russian

statement, and if he reveals the cosmopolitan bias to a shocking degree >> that is one of the most outrageous, insulting, ignorant and foolish things we have ever said to. >> tucker: brit hume spent many years of the microphone in his hand asking tough questions of politicians, covered many administrations and we are happy to have a montagnais. thanks so much for coming on. i guess what i'm struck by is not just a partnership, but the lack of useful information coming out of those. and, reporters did not ask the experts on hand questions about the disease, and where and when
5:15 pm
it was spreading and what could be done about it and what the data were showing on someone? some of those experts, and i thought about all kinds of questions i would like to ask but none of them did. i remember thinking at the time, i don't know what story these reporters think they are covering but it isn't the current virus outbreak that they have been covering. what they are covering his donald trump and donald trump, to them, as some when i think is reasonably clear. most reporters do not respect or admire and i think they hold him in contempt. despite the years and years of aggressive behavior in the white house briefing room, we have seen things with this president who go far beyond th that.
5:16 pm
and, and we didn't contradict and you didn't argue. she was not held in high esteem. >> nor by me, i can say. i think it's fair to have contempt for -- i have contempt for most politicians but, if you are talking to one, don't you have an obligation, and trying to get them something meaningful from the exchange. >> it's not just a gotcha game.
5:17 pm
it's to extract information. and remember sam donaldson who was as aggressive as any correspondent who ever cover the white house, he preceded me there for "abc news" and was there for 12 years. and they rarely interrupted or argued. even though the white house briefing room was nowhere near as cozy as the press briefing that you would have on capitol hill where they bordered on the buddy buddy, i remember when i first went down to the white house i was struck by what a different atmosphere at once. even then it was nothing like today but what brought this on was watergate. and a couple of guys are working on the city desk of "the washington post."
5:18 pm
and the atmosphere got very aggressive but it never got like this. >> tucker: what happens during the next administration, whatever that is? does this continue, it doesn't revert to what it was? >> while my guess is if the democrats get the white house and joe biden becomes president, he will be treated vastly differently than this president has been because most reporters will, whether they admit it or not, be sympathetic to him and hope that he succeeds. so the atmosphere will be different. it certainly was different under obama, still relatively aggressive and reporters have asked pointed questions of president obama but it was nothing like what we saw today. and i suspect it will revert back if the democrat wings. if president trump wins, heaven knows. is it worth having the briefings
5:19 pm
at this point. and they don't have any real sources of getting the calls return and it was also a chance to give these reporters the way to question the white house. and get their questions answered. if i had a story that i was working on, the last thing in the world that i would do would be to raise it in the briefing room and thereby inform all of my competitors of what i was doing so, i never did that which is why, you know, you go to the
5:20 pm
briefing just to see what the white house was saying and see what they were putting out. i never thought they were worth a lot and when they weren't happening for a long period of time come there before kayleigh mcenany came in, i didn't really miss him. >> tucker: brit hume, thank you so much. a new jersey gym owner is battling with the state to keep his business open and unfortunately, it doesn't run an abortion clinic, so they are trying to shut him down and they are here next. plus remarkable chilling video of this chinese government floating mask and bound ethnic minorities onto a train. let's next.

5:28 pm
>> so what is the governor threatening to do to your gem? >> of police force was threatening us with citation after citation, then as the court system, the court system enforce the shutdown and lock our doors on us and we finally got them removed. wwe had workouts outside for a couple of weeks and it was absurd. we were dragging half of the gym outside, close to 30,000 pounds of equipment every single day and on july 4th we resumed another court is being weaponized against us. we were held in contempt of court and we narrowly escaped that last night. again, it's just a weaponization of these public organizations and offices that are meant to serve and protect the people and they are clearly being used to punish us. >> tucker: and a certain kind of people. if you are an abortion clinic,

he would have no problem. do you think it's odd that they are persecuting you? >> i think it points to the very clear fact that this is not about public health. first of all, public health is not a one-dimensional issue, it does not start and finish with covid. there are other things we have to consider, mental health being one of them. everything that seems to be unhealthy for you, or at least sort of average is allowed, but you can't go work out. the studies all around the world coming out of norway, while the science points to the fact that if you allow people to work out regularly, they provided no data to show that gyms are of no danger to anybody.

the situation worse, when they may be encouraging some of these activities to happen, they let these groups occupy american territory and when they allow it to fester and grow and grow, that's where the average american citizen has no resort left but to stick up for themselves and defend themselves and the government comes after those people and not the violent mob. we have no choice. i hope the wake-up call for people here is that you are responsible for yourself and your family safety. and if you haven't gotten a firearm yet, if you thought about what you needed to do to take care of yourself, we are behind the times. >> i don't think most people are aware of that but a coordinated effort to strip people of the right of self-defense.
