jillian: fresh eyes describes you because you are in the studio for the first time in four months, i can see you from a distance. todd: for fans of the two second delay i am sorry, it feels great to be back with all of you. you are watching fox entrance first on thursday morning. jillian: thank you for starting the day with us, a lot of news to get to. breaking overnight portland mayor ted wheeler tear gassed at a protest as the city faces its 50 sixth straight night of unrest. todd: donald trump announces the deployment of more federal agents to several us cities as the violence surges across our country. griff jenkins live in washington as democrat mayors leaders speak out over efforts to combat the violence. >> 56 straight nights, nearly two month of unrest every night in portland and this time a new face in the crowd, mayor

wheeler, getting caught in the chaos. he started in the night trying to rally demonstrators to oppose the president's deployment of federal offices to protect the federal courthouse under siege there. then things escalated. mayor wheeler got teargas trying to stand with the protesters, he called what the president has done in constitutional, and occupation of the city. earlier in the day the president was at the white house holding a press conference to announce the expansion of this program. operation legend is named after a 4-year-old boy who was shot and killed while he slept on june 20 ninth in kansas city,

missouri. it is at the request of missouri state leaders, donald trump says he will take you to places like chicago, new york and albuquerque, new mexico where violence is spiraling out of control. >> the effort to shut down policing in their own communities has led to a shocking explosion the shootings, killings, murders, crimes, violence, this. should must end, this budget will end. >> local leaders not on board, chicago mayor lori lightfoot is one of the most outspoken critics blasting the president's efforts. >> that's not democracy we saw unfolding on the streets of portland as a result of this federal action. that is what we call tear any and dictatorship and we are not having it in chicago. >> reporter: mayor tim keller says operation legend is not real crime fighting but politics standing in the way of constitutional police work. it makes us less safe. the president was joined by

william barr and chad wolf to explain the difference, objectives in portland versus crime spike in places like chicago, more details in the numbers where he will send them but it was clear that while in portland they are trying to protect the courthouse, that is legally protected under 40 us code 1315, what they want to do in places like chicago and new york city and albuquerque is assist the local law enforcement with resources to try to get this under control because it is out of control right now but we can expect court challenges as well. todd: what do local leaders think of the move. raymond lopez is calling out the mayor of the city saying security should never be a partisan issue. shannon: he joins us from chicago with his message.

thank you for being here. what is your message to the mayor? >> my message is clear that residents should not be a partisan issue, should not be a twitter campaign to take shots at the president who you may or may not agree with, there are things i don't agree with that this president does but i'm not willing to put that partisanship above the safety and security of the residents of the city of chicago. >> 51% rise in murders, 47% rise in shootings year-over-year, 2019-2020. if we had a democrat president would cities like chicago be as opposed to federal intervention or if we had a president that wasn't donald trump? >> i think a lot of this stems from the fact that it is donald trump because chicago had no problem accepting $1 billion in federal assistance to fight

covid-19 but now that we are trying to fight the anarchists trying to subvert our city all of a sudden we have a problem with it. my community on the southwest side of chicago always worked well with law enforcement and federal partners to try to break up the things, we had great success until recently and we focus on the fact that government and all its agencies at all it's level should be working to protect the residents that govern. >> i don't know if you were watching the operation legend event, tugging at my heartstrings, when we heard the mother of a 4-year-old killed in kansas city. >> my one and only child who fought through open-heart surgery or four months is gone due to senseless gun violence, children are supposed to be our

future and our 4-year-old son did not make it. >> another family should not have to say those words ever again in this country, should not have to deal with that. do you think with what is going on with operation legend, getting that assistance, some argue is needed and some argue it isn't are we on the right step moving forward? >> anything that protect the lives of our children is a step in the right direction and the city of chicago, a dozen killed this year alone, less than a mile from where i'm sitting, one-year-old -- that is an unacceptable headline for any city, least of all the most american of american cities, chicago. >> unbelievable what is going on and you see the mayor in portland the really getting tear gassed, unbelievable, the kids are the ones that are suffering, we certainly hope something changes. we appreciate your time this morning, thank you.

shannon: donald trump will take the coronavirus vaccine when it comes out as he defends the white house response to the pandemic. >> the task force warns states of the challenges ahead. good morning. >> the president wouldn't mind trying it first, this is hours after announcing a massive deal that will deliver 100 million doses of vaccine to the us, the president says he is supposed to getting the vaccine himself in an exclusive interview he said he won't when either way. >> if i'm the first one they will say he is so selfish he wanted to get the vaccine first and other people would say that is a brave thing to do. if they wanted me to and thought it was right i would take it first or i would take it last. >> the president praised his task force and the handling of the pandemic, specifically doctor birx with what challenges are still to come especially in states like california where

cases are soaring. california more than 421,000, new york sits at 409,000. >> this is a different epidemic that we had in march and april and it will require additional tests. we know how important it is for everybody to know immediately whether they are positive or not so they can be isolated and prevent further transmission. >> in washington gop senators are set to release their appropriations plan today, the plan would give federal agencies and departments a dollar amount for ppe, testing in schools, $105 billion in covid-198 and $16 billion for testing. as of wednesday the global number of cases surpassed 15 million.

shannon: congressman ted. joins us with his reaction. thank you for being here, we appreciate it. it is important to see more of this video, people don't understand what is going on, this is video from overnight, the 50 sixth straight night of unrest in portland, mayor ted wheeler was tear gassed at a protest, you look at this video, you hear what is going on, see it every day, what is your response to this this morning. >> this is absolute and i can't we can't have this in this country. we see the problems here, what it is doing to those in the city of portland, seattle has a $300 million shortfall as a result of this, this is crazy but it's more than just the money. this is not the law and order citizens expect in this country and if portland and the city council and the mayor can't do this then they need federal backup and that is what the president is going to do. >> let's take a look at operation legend, named after that beautiful little boy who

was gunned down, talking about how the little boy recovered and then was killed. a horrible tragedy over 70 cities including kansas city, we have that on the screen, 100 federal agents being since there, chicago 200 federal agents, albuquerque 35, portland, 100 plus. i've heard a lot of pundits say the president is taking a political risk by intervening in various areas because he's making get his problem now. do you agree with that? >> this is happening in a few cities, once he doing this is too much. the president is right on this. we need more cops, more police grants, we need to get behind law enforcement because folks back home, folks in north carolina are worried this will come to their town, is this going to come to their city so we need to intervene now, the president is right on this, we're never going to defend our police, we will stand behind

them, support them, give them the support they need. >> delay about the letter to the white house budget office that you and 18 other republicans draft and you say federal taxpayers should not foot the bill for protest cleanup. >> exactly right. there is $88 billion that goes to our most populous cities in our country, federal taxpayer dollars like my small town in north carolina where i am from, we are paying for the biggest cities in the us and if they are not going to support law enforcement and going to allow it to be destroyed like we've seen in seattle and i mentioned $300 million shortfall earlier like we are going to see in portland as a result of this chaos i don't believe taxpayers across the us should have to pay for it. it is a complete waste of money and the president is right to go in and stop this and if they can't manage their own city then we will help them do it. shannon: with these mayors and

governors be acting differently if they knew they would have no chance of being bailed out by the feds? >> i think they would. it's going to depends, there doesn't -- doesn't seem to have a lot of logic, these mayors are defying logic. we saw in portland they wanted to go in and talk to the crowd and that didn't work too well. it is mob rule, we can't let this spread. obviously they need federal help or they just need different leadership. >> it is unbelievable, they want the fed help when it comes to money after the fact but before the fact they don't want the help. we appreciate your insight this morning. >> 18 after the hour, a pickup truck barrels into diners at an outdoor restaurant. amazingly no one was seriously hurt but the whole thing caught on camera. >> as cancel culture gone too far, a new poll shows half of americans think so. joe says he wants to meet the people who don't think it is out of control, he joins us next. 49... 50!

shannon: welcome back. donald trump called cancel culture and american and nearly half of americans agree. 46% of voters believe cancel culture has gone too far. good to see you this morning. i don't know about you but i've had conversations with a lot of friends out there as of late especially cancel culture at a peak right now. part of the problem is if you make a mistake you are supposed to learn from it and go forward and be better, not just be fired

from your job or whatever the case may be and have nothing left, what do you say? >> i have a 6, and number-year-old and teach every day, you will make mistakes every day of your life. even daddy at the thick age of 39 -- perhaps i'm a bit older -- makes mistakes every day but people that are best in this world are the ones that learn from it and get better. great point on your part. we need to cancel cancel culture. i can't believe 46% of people think it has gone too far. i would like to meet the other people who think it is about right. i saw another pole at 662% of voters say today's political climate prevention saying what they believe. i have a feeling people responded to this paul were afraid to say cancel culture has gone too far because they're afraid of what may happen. think about what we have seen the last couple weeks. of sacramento sportscaster. all he wrote on twitter in response to a fan who says what do you think of black lives matter in the nba, he said i think i'll lives matter, he got

this? making us more aware? >> perhaps. i don't know. if you agree the first amendment is under siege and should be and people should be silenced -- i don't see how it has much positive affect when you simply can't express something you may believe. something extreme or hateful you should be called out on it, you should be shamed depending on what you said but to cancel all these things now and i go to a media point on this, new york times runs an op-ed by tom cotton, republican senator saying the military should be used when you have violent protests in the police are overwhelmed, polls showed a majority of americans agree with that. the editor who ran that opera got fired, you can't even express an opinion the majority of americans agree with because the mob of the new york times it was a bad thing. i say do what the goya ceo did,

wouldn't the feds be better suited to take the guns away from the criminals as opposed to creating more gun reform laws because in my experience criminals with guns aren't going to see a law on the books and say we need to turn in our weapons because there is a law and we criminals love to follow the law. >> that's the nature of a criminal, they are not going to follow the law. the fact of the matter is a few years ago i was on the anti-gun side until i realized there is an insanity cycle where they think the anti-can democrats believe that if they can continue to compound and compound more gun control law that something is going to change and it has not changed. if anything is going to change in chicago they must start up allowing law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and they are not able to do so because of the

not take responsibility for anything. it is very telling for them to just come out and complain about everything with donald trump and americans are seeing through this. americans live through eight years with obama and joe biden with high taxes and regulations, high unemployment. we are seeing a different dynamic with donald trump. we had record low unemployment prior to this pandemic, more jobs than people to fill in, people seeing wage increases in their paychecks, more disposable income. this was not the case under the obama biden administration and if joe biden gets elected we will see even worse in terms of the economy, with jobs and what

excuse. a student at the university of georgia was taking an online test, she was also eating a meatball sub at the time, meatball rolled out of the sandwich, hit her computer screen, accidentally exits the test so she didn't finish, she was going to get a failing grade, she wrote her professor saying something hit my computer and caused it to submit the test when i had less than half the questions answered. by something i mean a meatball that had tragically fallen onto my keyboard as i was taking the exams over teachers said the situation was so crazy that she didn't think anybody could make it up so she let her take the test again. see also said maybe you should take the test before or after dinner. >> eat something with a fork. that is what i do.
