buller. good to see you this morning. what do you think of what she had to say? >> well, she was unfortunately correct in her criticism of cancel culture. it absolutely is a danger to society. it is toxic. conservatives are often warning against it as barry weiss pointed out, it ultimately leads to violence because in american society if we can't figure out our differences through debate and constructive criticism, ultimately we're going to see more and more of these violent riots happening in the street. that said, conservatives such as myself warning my fellow americans about it isn't going to accomplish much. what really needs to happen is we need to hear voices from the moderate and really the far left coming out to speak about how toxic and dangerous cancel culture is to american society.

i am glad to hear bill mahr agrees with her in many ways. i would like to hear more voices on the left come out and have a real conversation about why cancel culture is dangerous for our society. jillian: it was interesting to hear her point about it being not about criticism but about punishment because when you think about it, even back to when we were kids and you make a mistake or say something wrong, you're supposed to learn from that, right? like if you're just punished without understanding why and learning from it then we can't grow as humans. across the board, that's political party aside. >> i couldn't agree more. forgiveness is a fundamental aspect of american society. and what cancel culture does is try to get people fired. i actually have reported on cases like this myself and it's not always for doing something that's extremely problematic.
1:43 am
sometimes it's simply just for supporting policies like president trump and other cases what barry weiss is warning about is cancel culture is having a impact in newsrooms. she used to work in the new york times and felt she couldn't publish any sort of moderate of right-leaning opinions because the new york times was bowing to twitter mobs and we know twitter is not representative of the american public and so when news organizations such as the new york times are getting their editorial direction from these far left activists who support cancel culture, it's not representing the american public or even what they think about cancel culture. i think a lot of us, whether you're right or on the left, have reservations about the path americans are going down. jillian: let res take a look at this headline from a new york post op-ed from over the weekend, a conservative author, and this says, quote, what the world needs now is love and a hell of a lot more defamation
