how you do. shannon: good morning, you are watching "fox and friends first" on tuesday morning. >> we begin with extreme weather alerts. isaias downgraded to a tropical storm as it continues inland after making landfall as a category one hurricane overnight in the carolinas. >> the power is out. jillian: heavy wind and rain knocking power out hundreds of thousands, the storm sparking a series of house fires in north carolina. todd: it is long past you now. >> reporter: it is long past and always surprising the nice weather, usually surprising the nice weather on the backside of

the hurricane, a breeze blowing from the south while isaias's menacing the coast just north of here. the storm just after 11:00 last night as a category one hurricane, winds clocking in at 85 miles per hour bringing plenty of rain, plenty of floodwaters. the eye of the hurricane made landfall at 11:00 so 2 hours after high tide but what happens oftentimes as the tide what is trying to receive the wind plasma hurricane will blow the water back so you get plenty of floodwaters. here in myrtle beach, the floodwaters were two to three 3 feet deep, cars were inundated by floodwaters. a rather surprising effect is it caused a number of structure fires. the fire department reported they had a number of structure fires during the storm last

night. as the sun comes up an hour and a half from now we will have a better idea how much damage was done but the storm has been downgraded to a tropical storm, still to be taken seriously and has potential to whip up tornadoes, plenty of rain and water. donald trump saying that people further north need to take it seriously, government agencies need to remain on alert as well as local governments, federal government and the public needs to remain vigilant. everybody remembers sandy which didn't have the title hurricane but did plenty of damage. back to you in new york. >> isaias did significant damage to parts of the carolinas. >> north carolina congressman dan bishop, thanks for coming on. sounds like flooding and fires were two big problems we saw. >> it came ashore is expected. this area immediately west of the coastal area is robison county, it has taken a series of

out of the car and getting the baby out of the car, we needed to get to the hospital fast. we see children with trauma but this severe we don't usually see that day today. we decided to put her in our car. we knew she needed to get there. we put her in our car and started to drive and then we noticed there was an ambulance that was close so immediately stopped when we got to the ambulance and we need to go. this is it. jillian: i know that baby is still in critical condition at a local hospital. once that was done i know you broke down into tears. tell me about that emotion for you. >> the emotion as police officers - once i got her to the

hospital my job was done, now it is in the hand of doctors so now it is time to be human. even thinking about it i am still tearing up. you have to be human at that point and i have two daughters myself and to see this little girl the emotion is overwhelming. jillian: in the final seconds there's a lot going on in this country right now with anti-police sentiment. what is your message to america to those who are watching? >> everybody watching just remember even me as a black police officer it is not about race. i put on the uniform every single day, same with my partners and we continues to our job even as things are a little bit strange but we will get through this together.

flooding will be a big concern, power outages and trees down as well. in some cases the strongest winds the northeast has experienced since sandy. this will be significant, the storm is 70 mile-per-hour sustained winds downgraded from a hurricane making landfall at 85 miles per hour. tornado watch is in effect with carolina to the pink, those pink polygons are tornado warnings. with landfalling tropical systems, potential for week tornadoes causing structural damage and that will be ongoing throughout the northeast this afternoon and tonight. we will say goodbye to the system overnight into wednesday as it moves into canada but no joke we are dealing with at least tropical storm force windss to the northeast with heavy rainfall threat, some storm surge and power outages. as it moves to the northeast people need to be on alert.
