ask the schools, the teachers and principals , what is your safety plan? what would we do if we have a student or teacher who tests positive? what about ventilation and filtration? are they going to have limited group sizes? limited space in the rooms? whether be desk, are they going to wear a mask? what you do if a teacher comes in contact with somebody who test positive? what will you do to protect high risk students? a study showed african-american hispanic and black where the highest risk of contracting this disease and are having complications so these are some of the things we need to look at. >> there's less of a chance to transmit the younger you are. there's controversy this week about that.er the key would be money allowing money going to the schools to have an option to be at home. if you want to be at home, maybe you have a parent who's compromised and you don't have a

chance to bring it home, have a camera in the classroom. you can do that these days, correct? >> sure. especially with those who are older, above age ten. middle schoolers and high scores. it's more difficult for children who are in elementary school but the older students can benefit from sitting at home, having interaction with their classmates and teachers and is safer. data shows us under the age of ten, even though you can still transmit, you're less likely tos transmit to classmates and teachers. it does the above the age of ten so having that data, we can decide elementary school can go to class, maybe use hybrid schedules versus middle schoolers and high school. >> the kids wear a mask, you're a good teacher, you will get it implemented. next,d progress on a vaccine.

we are getting closer and closer. the president thinks we will get something this fall. how close are we on a vaccine? >> we are really close and thanks to our presidents operation warp speed and his funding of over $1 billion, we now have several vaccines that are in human trials, we are months away. potentially months away. are serving 100 million by the end of the year. this is what we need to fight this infection, herd immunity and not having to wear a mask for the rest of our lives and we can reopen without fear and anxiety. >> i could not believe a poll that says 42% of americans said they plan to get vaccinated you see how lives have been disrupted and careers destroyed. that number is too low for people, for me to get my head around. >> it is. we need to get the numbers up. vaccines are a global threat but

we need to understand this is a deadly disease. we just had a young, healthy 28-year-old undergo a double lung transplant because of coronavirus. pneumatic your age, it can affect you and your loved ones. i am a strong believer in vaccines, i know there are thousands of vaccine preventable deaths every single year. i've never seen serious complications but the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks and we know for years and years vaccines help prevent diseases, measles, polio, hepatitis. it can help save lives, it's something we need to tackle and educate and promote safety so we can get people going again. >> i didn't know people want to take it more in the spring and summer. what celebrities will have an impact on whether you took the vaccine? 10% more likely if oprah took it. upon james, 8% of the public will take you. tom brady, 7%. if he takes the vaccine, 7% more will take it.

celebrities with him. >> stressed out after that. i didn't want him to freak out and get upset and pulled the pin we got to witness something most don't get to see. it's an experience you can talk about for the rest of your life. [laughter] >> he doesn't have that much to talk about besides this. he lost two limbs in 2009 he's educating the public on shark and how vital they are to the ecosystem. shark week post, he joins us now. thank you so much. first off, how did you pick your celebrities to participate in your shark week extravaganza? >> when someone offers you an opportunity to work, will smith and now mike, you count your blessings because these people are champions for a reason. i'll take any opportunity i can

get to work with them and learn from their experiences teach them about some of my. >> what happened in the military when you came face-to-face a few minutes and with the shark in 2009? >> it decided to eat me for breakfast before i had even eaten breakfast which i thought was rude. ripped off my hamstring and my hand in one bite, nearly killed me. i swam back to my boat, through a pool of my own blood. unfortunately, my teammates came me alive until the paramedics got there. the paramedics got me alive until i got to surgery. the 300 people donated blood at the blood bank kept me alive as well so it was like the perfect storm of great outcomes to keep me alive. >> allows you to live, you didn't think you were going to end your here. your message is counterintuitive. don't be afraid of sharks?

>> they are not worthy of fear, they are worthy of respect. they are a dangerous animal in their own environment. i think if you look at the numbers, they have little more to fear of us and we do of them. worldwide, maybe seven or eight died from shark attacks i know it hurts but when you look at how many sharks we kill over 100 million a year, who is the bad guy in this equation? >> understood. you're going into their domain, it's not vice a versa. you say this year, there's a lot of publicity on it. if you look at the stats, we are below last year's pace in terms of shark attacks, correct? >> i have not looked at the numbers. h i know australia had quite a few, unfortunately but this is a wild place and we have to take precautions when we entered the sharks from. you look ation drownings, sharks get all the newspaper attention.

350,000 people died from drowning last year and no one is freaking out about drowning. it can be dangerous, we've got the wealth of the world's knowledge, we can google where there are shark sightings. is it really worth the risk going into the ocean? maybe i will go to the pool instead. >> so why do you keep going and? >> i love it last back.
