including joe biden. he's in delaware. thursday he will accept the party's nomination at the chase a center a few blocks from where i'm standing. it will be virtually all in line and we will show you the lineup with the first team, we the people. bernie sanders argued the party is making a progressive push with new york's governor andrew cuomo. one republican governor, john kasich, and rounding out the night the big stars former first lady michelle obama. neither obama or harris made appearances over the weekend. >> i encourage everyone, look, you may not fall in love with who you are voting for, but if you just look at it on a piece of paper with the issues impacting you every day, there is so much on the line in this election. reporter: dnc cochair new jersey

todd: as of now president trump and joe biden are set to face off in the first presidential debate september 29. jillian: fox news alert police officers in seattle injured after writers shoot fireworks overnight. todd: the latest in a string of dangerous anti- police demonstrations this weekend. carly joins us live with the disturbing stories. reporter: disturbing weekend of violence against police officers , not stopping overnight. in seattle police declaring a riot after several officers were hurt. of the department says summer hit by fireworks. in texas, three officers were hurt after a suspect opened fire during a hostage situation. that standoff still underway just outside austin. >> the mother called and said her son kicked in the door and was acting very aggressively. our officers responded, once they went in the house they were met with gunfire. three of our officers

received gunshot wounds from the suspect. reporter: batman still barricaded with a three family members. the officers are expected to be okay in chicago police releasing video from a violent clash this weekend. one man's being willing a skateboard as a weapon. atlas-- at least 17 officers were hurt. the mayor is praising officers for keeping demonstrators say. >> we have also seen people who embedded themselves in the seemingly peaceful protests and come for a fight, so what happened was over quickly because the police is resolved to make sure we protect peaceful protests. reporter: there's no peace in portland as to officers were hospitalized after getting hit by rocks saturday. one waited nearly 10 pounds. former nypd lieutenant joined us earlier and said local officials need to step up so officers can do their job.

should have known about this years ago. todd: his committee issued a subpoena to the fbi director. jillian: today that sec is expected to release his schedule for the 2020 college football season the conference will play 10 games. meantime ohio state university quarterback justin fields started a petition asking the big ten to reverse its decision to postpone the season. the petition so far has more than 200,000 signatures. todd: i'm excited to see trevor lawrence, but i really also want to see fields because he's a special player in his own right. jillian: i'm's curious to see how much the signatures will grow. todd: joe biden's team silent sunday.

almost like a do no harm strategy. he's anywhere from four to 10 points ahead if you believe the polls, but i think there's a level of concern that joe biden, they don't want him to step on himself and ruin the momentum he may have. he could only do that for so long because i think there is this narrative that's catching fire that he's afraid to go in front of the camera and he will have to address that. jillian: i think people genuinely want to hear from him. i think people want to see him field questions. that's my opinion. it seems like people want to see him field the questions to feel-- see his response. people want to see his responses and the time is ticking. >> yes. look, he's now going to officially be the nominee even though he's been the presumptive nominee for some time.

he will be the official nominee. he has an obligation to stand before the american people and answer tough questions and because it's such a different campaign because of the pandemic there isn't those big rallies. there isn't that kind of on the campaign trail vibe you would usually be accustomed to during a presidential election cycle, so he really has to get front of the camera to connect with people and there are these virtual rallies in these kind of press conferences we have seen may be what we may see and this is just speculation is a lot of dual interviews with both vice president biden and the vice presidential nominee kamala harris to play off one another and bring that different kind of youth enthusiasm and sparkle and that articulate way we have seen kamala harris bring

the debate stage frankly against joe biden. todd: that's a fascinating taken that seems like a smart call. speaking of the big dnc week it kicks off in a big way with former first lady michelle obama. what does this line of said about the party and its platform? there they are, all on your screen. >> i can't see any of them, but i know who is speaking and it's a very broad at lineup of the speakers. i think the intention is the democratic party is trying to make sure they are reflecting the diversity of voices from progressives to more moderate establishment center left of voices there. you are getting everyone from aoc and bernie, elizabeth warren to more established folks like bill clinton. wednesday is pretty dedicated to females of the democratic party. there's a lot of individuals of people of

jillian: doctor, is there enough testing right now or studies on it i should say to know if it's as accurate as the nasal swab? >> so far it's been shown to have good sensitivity. they tested it on many of the nba players, both the nasal swab and also the saliva test at the same time to make sure the results we were getting were similar in so far they were promising results and matched up for the most part. that's very reassuring to we tend to lose some sensitivity, but overall found to be very useful, beneficial and accurate and hopefully we can use that not just in sports and schools, but other people that want to get back to work. it only takes about three hours, no more than a day usually, but we want to get to the point of a rapid point with results in about 15 minutes. jillian: before we let you go, there's a community college in ohio that has had no covid-19

cases in the three months after safely reopening. how are they doing this? i mean, this is an example of how it can be done. >> exactly. basically, they followed the cdc guidelines and before they reopened they may chose there were as low prevalence of the virus in the community and then prioritized which students needed to be on campus, which students could study from home online. the limited the number of students on campus and limited staff and teachers and follow the basic rules. everyone was required to wear a mask. they did temperature checks which were not even that cdc requirement. they enforced social distancing, limited class sizes from 10 to 12 people and nature they cleaned and disinfected the classroom after every use and that little things like hand sanitizer, making sure you stay home if you're sick, pointing students

todd: chicago leaders pasting scrutiny over an emergency hospital for covid-19 patients. it was set up in the early days of the pandemic. jillian: we are breaking down those numbers. reporter: good morning. chicago taxpayers spent

$66 million to set up a covid emergency hospital that only took in 38 patients. if you do the math its $1.7 million per patient local officials are defending the move with one even saying it's something i'm incredibly proud of. of the money was not spent in the vein. the hospital only 3000 that an equipment is now in storage, but so far they say that it was an emergency measure and were suspending all that money. i'm not sure chicago taxpayers are on board with that. todd: we have a pepperoni problem and i'm not happy about it. reporter: i learned today that julian is a vegetarian. jillian: you just learn to that? reporter: i did not know. it's disturbing news with pizza places across the country say pepperoni supplies are tight and now they are paying sometimes double.

keeping circuits off the airway head up today's convention and the presumptive nominee staying out of the spotlight, so how much longer can this strategy work? beverly hallberg joins me now to weigh in. beverly, thank you for being here. when do you see biden hit in the airway and the trails? >> like you said, for this convention it will be virtual so we won't see any authentic moments we normally see during a convention, but the question is with a 77 days until the election will the committee-- the media continue to give joe biden a pass. i think what americans want is not only to know his position especially since he has moved left, but also if he has the cognitive ability to answer questions, while so the convention will give us everything we typically get, people are looking for him to answer questions and i'm looking forward to the

debate next month. i think that's when people want to make a decision seeing how joe biden does on the stage. todd: new jersey governor is part of the biden campaign and he's defending biden over his lack of interviews. >> i'm sure the vice president between now and election day will be up to his eyeballs in interviews and debate. balancing public health with democracy is something we have to get right and i believe he has gotten it right so far. todd: is murphy right? i mean, will we be up to our eyeballs in biden all joking aside in front of our tvs, on our radius and it print between now and november 3? >> i hope so. it seems the strategy since the coronavirus hit has been to hide him at his home in delaware and the time he's come out and spoken, it has not gone well so in many ways the strategy of the biting campaign which is

to do as little press as possible has worked out well for them. the pandemic has given them that cover, but i'm not sure the american people will stand for this much longer. biden will have to be more than that candidate that is not trump and that means answering tough questions. jillian: over the next two weeks is a tale of two very different conventions with president trump said to participate every single day of the rnc and everyone but biden will participate every day at the dnc. biden participating at the end. does the biden run the risk of hiding behind covid or are the american people ultimately going to reward the strategy because they are also scared of covid and aren't going to reward the president for being there all four days? >> people are concerned about covid, but at the same time we see a country opening back up.
