character is on the ballot. compassion is on the ballot. decency, science, democracy, they're all on the ballot. we would get control of the virus that has ruined so many lives. our current president failed in his most basic duty to the nation. he has failed to protect us, he has failed to protect america, and my fellow americans, that is unforgivable. >> president trump firing back today disputing the doom and gloom depiction of america. >> the democrats held the darkest, angriest, gloomiest convention in american history. they spent four straight days as racist and a horrible country that must be redeemed where joe
2:02 am
biden sees american darkness i see american greatness. >> i think the reviews are in, this is being compared to the martin luther king i have a dream speech, tear down this walt mister gorbachev speech, but even better than anything barack obama himself delivered. i think donald trump might have to concede now. >> this is the problem with exceedingly low expectations is every now and again your opponent meets them and when the expectation is you won't remember your name, where you are, or what office you're running for, by that measure, we exceeded expectations. i do think republicans are better off not arguing about his lucidity, but he's been in politics since martha and i were in elementary school. since we were in elementary
2:03 am
school, joe biden has been in politics. whatever great ideas he has, why hasn't he done that yet? he was in the u.s. senate, whatever your great ideas, joe, you had half a century to do it. >> i don't know about you, martha, you were there. there were some people in the crowd, what was it like? >> there were. they were careful about the crowd that they brought in for security reasons, but i think it was a pretty imaginative way to pull off an event like that during covid. it's still strange to everybody to watch other candidates go out there with their masks on, and last night if anybody had shown you that picture a year ago, you
2:04 am
would have wondered what is going on? why are they all wearing masks. we've all sorts of gotten past that. i think this speech was very capable. i agree with trey that the bar has been lowered dramatically by joe biden competition. the president has talked endlessly about how incapable he is an owl and 50 is to hold the office. so aof modicum of a decent good speech, which is cally what we saw, it was a capable well delivered speech, i don't think it was something you're going to find in a book of the top 50 speeches in history, but it was a solid speech and a good moment for joe biden. this is the easiest night, it gets harder from here. he's preaching to the choir, he gives his speech, everybody surrounding him is just all full of wild and light and not darkness. after this, the bar gets higher. a gets more difficult.
2:05 am
he was holding his breath during the entire speech, let's react and you can. >> it was an extraordinary speech. we were prepared for it furby terrible speech and as long as he didn't bear them some self we were embrace it. >> i guess some people around here might have egg on their face for questioning his lucidity, i think clearly this man spoke with power and emotion and for democrats, clearly came across as someone who will be able to put up the fight and withstand what we expect will be an onslaught from the trump campaign. you know, it was that climactic moment of the democratic convention, jesse, and he really scored big. the election is now a referendum
2:06 am
on trump, and that is what he wanted to frame it as prayed the speech was very clear in saying joe biden is the antithesis of trump. think about it, he is order versus chaos, kindness versus cruelty, unity versus division, he says he will protect america and trump has failed to protect america specifically from the virus, so too me, that is the purpose of the speech, and he did it. he conveyed that to america and played up the person he is as opposed to trump, appearing caring person with empathy with an understanding of what it feels like in this time to feel alone or feel like the light has gone out and understand the importance of jobs and family and school. those are just terrific points for him to hit and he has hit them all big. i just think it's about bringing
2:07 am
america back two normal. joe biden sent a clear message. you have a binary choice, trump, or back two normal. >> would you agree with that assessment? >> absolutely, if i were high. their was nothing unifying in that speech my bar for him was low, and he plunked it. i have a lot of funny jokes i could tell about joe, but this isn't funny. this is a very fragile unstable time. we had the twin dimmick, we have a pandemic that is creating so much anxiety in this world, we have a george floyd reese riots and crime wave which is creating much anxiety which is being denied by people like juan. so do you think providing a three -year-old incentive into huntsville in order to push a lie that helps your divisive race baiting narrative is healthy for america at this point? this country could erupt again any time in this feeble happily
2:08 am
flicks that match on a mountain of dry tinder with his fine people helps and let me remind you the fine people hope help has been the amount by everybody including even yes, cnn. there are transcripts and there are videos that showed that trump he was talking about the debates regarding the monument. yet biden pushes this relentlessly. i'm not sure if he believes it or if he's just stupid or mean-spirited, but this kind of deception is camping up the odds for racial conflict in the future. what are people are playing of is congeniality, but he's lovable, this is a lie they can cleave a country, and it grosses me out that nobody is talking about it. the media won't talk about it. its grotesque that it could just fly by, even on our network.
2:09 am
its horrible. in my view, he has disqualified himself from being in the public square forever. >> in the history of saying things like that you know what he said about mitt romney wanting to put black people back in jane's. >> exactly. >> that's a wrap for the democratic national convention now it is donald trump stern. the president giving a preview of what to expect next on the five. we made usaa insurance for veterans like liz and mike. when their growing family meant growing expenses, our agents helped make saving on insurance easy usaa. what you're made of, we're made for. usaa i may not be able to tell time, but i know what time it is. the smoldering ruins in he's spent the last half-century in washington selling out our country and ripping off our jobs our opponents prevail, no one will be safe in our country. no one will be spared. >> martha, let me begin with you since you were there last night. you know, the democrats in some way they key to expectations in the midst of this virtual convention format, the bar has been set pretty high, so what do you expect next week from president turner trump in terms of themes for his convention? >> this was a really warm and fuzzy convention, that the democrats put on i'm not that's what everybody is looking for. a lot of emotion, a lot of all of that. i would expect you to see a different tone. the president has said since he ran in 2016 you don't like my
2:16 am
tone. he goes on to list the things he cares about. i think that the attacks that were leveled against him during the democratic national convention were really nothing new that we didn't hear in the last round when he around. all of these things are baked in the cake i think. people either love president trump or they don't. keep in mind a few things, the polls are now tied in minnesota and in pennsylvania. this is narrowing. we are going to see alice johnson, she will take the stage and talk about prison reform, she's going to talk about real things that happened over the last four years they changed her life and change the lives of many others. you're also going to hear from nikki haley and these are going to be important speeches when it comes to speaking to suburban women across this nation. my guess as they're going to make a forceful defense of president trump in terms of
2:17 am
things that matter in their opinion to women and the things they see as accomplishments he's made. i would look for it to be a little more on the substantive side which you would expect because you have a presidency with record and you've got things to point to rather than things that are aspirational which tends to fall in the more sort of emotion of yield. >> jessie, do you think that in fact the republicans might start putting out the word? trump is better when he's just off-the-cuff, he is not so great at doing scripted presentations. is that going to be a way to lower the bar for a drum? >> i would like to take issue with the fact that you set high expectations with the dnc. were you watching the same convention? it looked like the high school a/v team put that together. the bar is pretty low and i think the president will exceed those expectations. ended earlier, i need my beauty

2:19 am
grow. they have to aerate. i would put a nice montage together and see who you're really running against. you not just running against biden and that makes the trump voter believe that they are underdogs. that is a good way to fight. joe i think needs to be defined and has been defined effectively after the last month, this is a lifelong, washington, politician that has retained e*trade the country, all talk and no action, left this country open for china and illegal aliens to prey upon it. he will be a puppet for the radical left and has no clue what is going on. more importantly,. >> i think one of the presidents traits is he is the showman and we saw that in the last date of the union. , on down and here's my guest
2:20 am
and all those kinds of things. what do you think about what kind of joke and the president put on? is it all going to be about grievance and the minorities will come in dear suburbs, we're going to do? i put it into this question thinking i'm going to let it slide, but i'm not, i'm going to call you out on that lie. do you notice when trump talks about. >> you go look at it. >> juan, let me finish. when trump talks about foreign adversaries like china and iran, it's a same weight democrats talk about american citizens. trump is suspicious of external threats is a reflex to protect the citizens here. they need to preserve their power, so he needs to remind america that the left is no solutions, only destruction. they want to defund the police
2:21 am
during a crime wave, they want to keep travel open is the pandemic started, they have no compassion for workers who want to get back to work. they want more chaos and they will deliver that, who is the autocrat running for president? trump will let fêtes decide when to open up in phases or joe who keeps pushing mask mandates. he finally needs to make a distinction between real unity and false unity. the dems are pitting race against race, trump or from the start was about uniting american citizens. >> okay, so if you were there producer for the upcoming republican national convention, what would you do? >> i would acknowledge the fact that republicans six out of the last seven so if that is your track record, you might want to consider changing something. you can't run the electoral college gauntlet every time.
2:22 am
i would have the speakers that lead up to president trump count his successes in contrast him with biden. there is a reason why we have introduced as there is a reason that humility is a virtue i would tell the president to let other people tout your successes, you need to set the tone for the next four years. people are fearful and apprehensive, you have a unique once in a historical lifetime opportunity to be the commander-in-chief in the leader of the free world. tell them what you want to do in the future but out let other people tout your successes and let other people rely on joe biden. >> that was good advice. ahead, democrats claiming trump is trying to steal the election. how the president is responding. that is next for you on the five. as a caricature artist, i appreciate what makes each person unique.
