tv   The Ingraham Angle  FOX News  August 24, 2020 11:00pm-12:00am PDT

11:00 pm
many more nights to come from the white house closing up on thursday night. we will be back tomorrow at 6:0. >> we will see you back here:0 with the story. "the ingraham angle" is next. >> i'm laura ingraham and this is ingraham angle from washington tonight. the first night of the rnc and what a contrast from last week's very dour affair. tonight made me and i know made so many of you out there proud to be an american. in moments we will show you exactly how before can't miss reaction from molly having way, and dan patrick, plus were going to hear, and i can't wait, two of tonight's most memorable speakers. my heart is beating.'s herschel walker, parkland father
11:01 pm
andrew pollack, two of who stole the show tonight. the site of donald trump that the media don't want any of you just a see. we're going to show it to you. ramin is on the ground inte charlotte tonight where he's focused on the delegates that just renominated the president. what he found out. first come with, the greatest country on earth, that is the focus of tonight angle. the rnc kicked off tonight. it stood in sharp contrast with the doom and gloom america racist nightmare that the dnc portrayed last week.nc i hope you felt this way, it was like a breath of fresh air or may be more accurately, it felt like millions of patriotic hard-working americans were exhaling is sigh of relief after a very difficult last six months. america isn't a country that it was described does last week.
11:02 pm
no way. and tonight, we were reminded that donald trump as a man who cares deeply about the present and future of americans of all races, all backgrounds, all creeds. >> we need a president who believes in the american dream like president donald trump. >> at the white house, my family and i sat with the president in the oval office and tell him about meadow. he is a good man and a great gistener. >> he built the most inclusive economy ever with record low unemployment for african-americans and record high participation in the workforce. >> growing up in the deep south i've seen racism and i know what it is. it isn't donald trump. >> that was just a few moments ago, andrew pollack and herschel walker will be here later in the hour. on this first night of the public and national convention, i think it's important to ask a
11:03 pm
simple question, as donald trump and the republican party done enough to justify being rehired in november? the democrats spent all last week during their disaster of a virtual convention making the place that the trump administration has failed the american people. >> 5 million americans infected by covid 19. the worst performance of any nation on earth. more than 50 million people have filed for unemployment this year. >> it's chaos. >> donald trump is destroying our country. >> the future of our democracy is at stake bread. >> the future of our democracy is at stake. that's what it stake, our democracy. >> the democrats were full of food it was short on facts and policy recommendation, and the reason is simple.
11:04 pm
when you look at the facts, it's obvious that none of our g-7 beers is doing as well as the united states today. it's also clear that america would do even better if the democrats who controlledhe somef the bigger cities in the larger states with the spend less time complaining about trump and more time learning from him. >> we will build monuments to heroes, not burn down cities. gig at the response to the chaos, defund the police, defund border patrol, and defund our military. >> the democrats are o controlld this part of baltimore's erie for over 50 years. they've run this beautiful place into the ground. abandoned buildings, local. >> i thereunder result from shutdowns, riots, and now facing thee terrifying prospect of joe biden coming after everything we've built. >> we have been hearing from
11:05 pm
democrats about how our friends in canada and western europe are doing better than we are. again, the facts say otherwise. rwlet's just look at what's happening for a moment with covid. if you're in the number of covid infections just hit a two month will. have you heard that lately on the other networks. and you're eight missing an explosion of new cases in germany, spain, and elsewhere prayed they would also have you believe that the deft handling of covid somehow made americans much worse off than our friends in europe. >> too many hard-working families have been caught in an economic treadmill. >> unemployment is the highest rate since the great depression. >> in 2016 when trump asked what do you have to lose? now we know, our healthcare, our jobs,. >> what they're not telling you is how lucky we are that trump didn't follow europe's lead.
11:06 pm
they did hurt our economy but other g-7 competitors ended up much worse off. look at the data, the gdp in 2020. we were already significant riveter before the. our per capita gdp was $20,000 higher in germany, almost double that. and now were managing the fallout of the crisis better than almost all of them. so the gap between us is likely to grow. what democrats also aren't telling you is that our recovery is going way better than other western nations. today the s&p 500 and nasdaq hit all-time record highs. in other words, these indices are worth more today than they were before the virus. this is great for your 4o1k and you're ira, but more importantly, the markets are one of the best ways to gauge investor optimism. they aren't just some whole of experts or economy, these are
11:07 pm
real tough people betting real money and they are betting on the united states. >> in spite of this unbelievable opposition, this president has had done what he said he wouldo. do. taxes cuts, regulations reduce, lewiston employment in 50 years. who better to lead us out of these times on the president to gve the best economy we have seen bread. >> that's what president trump promised and that's what he delivered. >> investors like what they see live trump. after they've laid out their disastrous designs for the economy last week, who could blame them. >> in child childcare, in canceling student loan debt. ax joe will rollback the tax cut they got so weak and fun things are whole country needs. we should for aliens into private businesses. there should be ten failed investments.sh >> we say i would chide it down?
11:08 pm
>> i would chide it down, i would listen to the scientist. >> he said that after the dnc. so now you see why the democrats were afraid to really get into the nitty-gritty of policy. for four years, but republicans have proven that their policies are better than anything the crowds have to offer. in the rule of law works better than the chaos we see tonight in certain blue cities. we will get to wisconsin in a bit. the democrats didn't talk about policies last week, not really. they don't have any ideas that will make life better for the average american. it is just rhetoric, rhetoric, and more rhetoric. it would be a terrible error for the american people to change course. to emulate the disasters that
11:09 pm
are causing so much trouble in new york and elsewhere. let's keep on the path that is working. let's vote for trump and the republicans, keep america great, how about make america even better year after year after year. and that means an america that is free, so we can all pursue our own happiness, and that is the angle. molly hemingway senior editor at the federalist. also cofounder and realplayer politics and molly, what we heard tonight, from these speakers was in most cases just the polar opposite of what the democrats laid out last week. it's not all that surprising, but it seemed to me like the country was really hungry, thirsty, whatever image you want to use, for a celebration of america, not a constant condemnation of her.
11:10 pm
>> i thought last week that a lot of the problems the democrats had with their convention related to how it was a convertible convention and the republicans would have several problems. their was no comparison between the rnc tonight in the democratic convention the first night last week. at think it's all about the substance. people have been praising professional politicians, i agree that tim scott gave a great speech, but for me what was really striking is all the stories from average americans talking about the philosophy that led them to support the republican party and they brought up all different ways and just the frustration with the leftist mob, the media, and these we're coming from normal people, not celebrities. celebrities are great, but they only count for one vote. when you look at all these average and americans they represent so many people across the country who are very upset with what is happening in democratic runs cities and they
11:11 pm
didn't get anybody speaking to them last week about that. they sure got a lot tonight. >> dan patrick, i'm going to go do you. ordinary americans, and incredible american success story. maxwell alvarez, we are going to play some of it for the viewers out there to really take it in. >> the guy running for president is not only concerned about power, he has come a power for them, power for the benefit of all americans, it's the idea before. and i am here to tell you, i'm not letting them take over our country. i can still hear the sounds of those broken promises it is the sound of waves in the ocean. families with children who are willing to risk everything to
11:12 pm
reach this blessed land. it is the tears hitting the paper of an application to become an american citizen. i choose president trump because i choose america. i choose freedom. i still hear my dad, there is no other place to go. >> dan, i wrecked my makeup, which is fine. i found that to be so inspiring. the story of love, it was a love affair former america he was describing. >> you know, laura, what i heard tonight from the speakers then i just got back from charlotte, but what i heard was people's hearts. and what i heard last week was just hate for america, and i heard biden and hear us talking at people. i heard people at this
11:13 pm
convention including the president talking to people. youu know, eve known the president a long time. teflon known him the last four or five years. people ask me what he is like. and we are now seeing what he's like because people thought that he was going to lose these bigoi rallies and that was going to her temperate course when you're talking 20,000 people have to amp it up to reach them, but now were seeing it. i think it's a blessing in disguise because now donald trump is talking to the people like he's talked to you in p years. he truly loves people, he is funny, he's witty, and he's just saying here, this is who i am, this is what i believe.s he's talking to us like he's our next-door neighbor and joe biden is talking at us. i think not having the big rallies and seeing the donald trump ili have talked to so many times and knowing him and how he truly cares for people, black,
11:14 pm
white, and brown, he wants to lift of the bore and the minorities then the democrats ever thought about. >> i want to play these powerful remark from sean parnell tonight. >> if you're a traditional democrat he's been disillusioned with our route then stand with us, you are most welcome. america needs all of her patriots to rush to her defense. my fellow americans, i promise you this, in our tent, you are free. >> again, another incredible line, i don't care who you are, where you come from, to me that is powerful, tom. is that approach that the republicans need to take in part to reach out to those people who might not like trump's tone, but still love this country and what she stands for at base, our liberty, our freedom. >> i think so. in particular if you look at the
11:15 pm
african-american herschel walker was fantastic.. a great testimonial for trump, and just got at the end with his sort of optimistic his story, in the line from i think the signature line of the night, and spoke to the promise of the american dream and for people of color, but for everyone in america. i think that is the message that came through tonight. that is the message that will reach beyond trump space and into moderates and independents and into suburban voters. >> molly, there was another moment, so many and i want to play so many of them tonight, but this wasm vernon jones who also spoke about his own experience as a black man, but also again, the america he knows and loves in the candidate he is supporting. >> peace officers are our fellow
11:16 pm
citizens. they live in our country, they have families to, they live in our communities, unfortunately, democrats have turned their backs on our brave police officers. they call it defunding, and it's a danger to our cities, our neighborhoods, and our children. isn't it ironic that democrat politicians of personal security to protect them? he said why don't they give it up and just basically go for the social workers like the rest of us are supposed to do. does that approach work? especially with women who care about safety and security. >> that was another very compelling speech and i'm glad you're showing it because he talked about violence in the cities and the problems he had to defund the police movement. this was something not mentioned in the democratic convention for it he was also speaking and
11:17 pm
endorsing donald trump. at the democratic convention they had republicans who were endorsing biden. they were like lobbyist and inside the beltway type folks or from our partners at lehman brothers. not exactly the average type of american so putting forth the type of voters the republicans are hoping to get which is a black
11:18 pm
11:19 pm
11:20 pm
. >> this is the future of the republican party. a lot of future stars of the
11:21 pm
party tonight no doubt about it. nikki haley is an establishment rpublican to a lot of people. she represents the bush era of republicans. donald trump needs to be elected, she's he's kind of where the juices on the party, the is with the populist conservative philosophy, that is just where it is. >> nikki haley is a very smart politician and she does understand that if the republican party as to have success in the future it needs to be populist and conservative. it is interesting how or any republicans are enthusiastic behind donald trump when four years ago it was not that situation within the republican party there was a lot of worry about whether he could govern as a conservative a lot of people in the establishment are trying to paint this picture that there is unrest in the republican
11:22 pm
party. a lot of people who positioned themselves as extremely anti- trump are not relevant. they are working their hardest and the democratic party. the division is really between people who understand the need to embrace the populist conservatism and the people still resisting that unlikely the success will be had with the people they get that the success of the party as resting around this way of having policies that inpealed to average americans, not again those really elite people that used to be part of the republican party. >> speaking of real specifics on policy people think policy isn't, but i think there was a moment where a specific policy which a lot of people might not know a lot about was brought up and that is the right to try medications and medicines that are pushing the boundaries of the science today, and there was a testimonial about that a speaking of the personal stories tom said we're so powerful. watch this moment.
11:23 pm
>> the chemotherapies on the market, nobody wanted me in their clinical trials. i make them look bad. they didn't give me the right to try experimental treatments, you did.ve you have used your strength to make america strong again. sacrifice the life you built to makeo america proud again. and you risked everything to make america safe again. >> another young woman, another storyer did it connect? >> absolutely. i thought that when bill clinton used people when he was giving a speech, they were just props,, but these are people that the president cares about. whenem the president it disses n issue he is a doer. joe biden has done nothing for 40 or 50 years. the president cares and it came across tonight. it will continue to come across. >> it seemed like every person
11:24 pm
who spoke tonight believed that they knew it was all on the line. coming up, that he delivered the most powerful speech of the night, nfl legend herschel walkerer here in moments and we have ramen riemann on deck. yum! king's hawaiian. feeling heavy? probioslim promotes healthy digestion and helps you lose weight. patented probiotics ease constipation, gas, and bloating, while powerful egcg burns fat and calories. unleash your potential with probioslim, the #1 probiotic fat burner at walmart.

11:27 pm
11:28 pm
11:29 pm
>> no margin treat security guards and janitors the same way you would treat a vip committee made them spell special. he understands that they are the people who make this country run he told me, make an effort to get to know people. remember their names, that stuck with me. it hurt my soul to hear the tailorable names that people called donald, the worst one is racist. i take it as an insult that people would think i had a 37 year friendship with a racist. i pray every night that god gives him more time. give him four more years, he is my president and i am blessed to call him friend. >> the man that delivered one of the most powerful immerman bulls beaches of the night and it didn't surprise me one bit, herschel walker joins me now. now, why was it important for you to deliver that message
11:30 pm
about donald trump's heart to the american people tonight?o >> because i don't think people really know donald trump. i think they look at donald trump for a tweet or they look at what he said, and they're not looking at what he does. donald trump is done more in three years then most presidents have done in eight. what is so special about him as he cares about people. i've had a personal friendship with donald trump for 37 years. during all this time he's neverk asked me to speak for him after they called him all types ofes names and i know donald trump, i've been with him and special moments and i've never seen that in him. >> when you think of so many of the proactively today and i had a chance to talk to some off the record, if they disagree with the prevailing wisdom in the
11:31 pm
professional athlete class today, they feel like they can't speak, they feel like it will ruin their careers, they won't start the next game, their teammates won't protect them, how prevalent could that be out there were it's just an undercurrent in society that is afraid and they will speak on election day. >> that's what happens. the reason we are the greatest country we have this freedom to speak like that, but we've becomeom a society that we frighten people in that's the reason i think politics should not be in sports. give those athletes a chance to speak. people are afraid to speak their mind and that is sad. i think people should stand up for america. i believe in the national anthem, i believe in the lord jesus, i believe in law & order and that what was said to me.
quote
11:32 pm
the democratic party today is not telling anyone where they stand on anything direct that's the honest truth. they want you to go to a booting booth and make an emotional decision. >> georgia democrat vernon jones spoke tonight as well. he said that when he was asked to speak, he decided to speak in order of the resident. he discovered how his own party treated him. >> i was threatened, called anas embarrassment, and asked to resign by my own party. unfortunately, that is consistent with the democratic party, and how they view independent thinking black men and women. >> wasn't that biden that said
11:33 pm
that any african-american that doesn't support him isn't really an african-american? >> that's exactly right, and i'm not going to call him let even his vice president called him during the debate, he has some racist tendencies, even senator bookers booker said the same thing. what isat so amazing is where ty telling the truth or were they doing it today. i'm not saying he's a racist, i have no idea but during the debate you said some terrible terrible things about him without him admitting that i'm sorry. i said listen, i'm not even going to go to the democrats i'm going to go to the republicans. what this president has done for america needs to be known. and i think it's not been known. people don't want to mention the things he's done in three years normally you don't do what you say, and this president here has
11:34 pm
done almost everything he said he was going to do, and that counts. >> herschel, two young black boys and girls, who might see this online tomorrow, but if they get to see you speaking tonight or sawyer speech, what do you say to them directly given what they're hearing and seeing with more unrest tonight in wisconsin after the shooting of a black man by the police. we saw portland, seattle, the stories go on and on. what do you say two young african-american boys and girls tonight?g to get one of the things i would say as to educate yourself. don't jump to conclusions, don't jump to anything right off the spots spot. i think because of youtube, because of videos, you see a lot of things. don't come to a conclusion just off the video. another thing i would say to them is i didn't know any
11:35 pm
better. what strange isny it doesn't fit what i believe in. first of all, i believe in god, i believe in family, i believe in the american flag, i believe in the national anthem, i believe in law and order. the democratic party has not said they believe in any of those things. in admixed everything up. a beautiful beautiful incredible country bird that's what we are. first, we give them an opportunity to figure out what's really going on. >> herschel, thank you foron coming on with us tonight. unbelievably inspiring speech
11:36 pm
tonight, i personally want toor tell you how important it was amr my family, and i know for the larger american family. thank you so much. >> thank you. >> coming up, on the road. we were in charlotte for day one of the rnc, what in the world t did he find there? we find out in a moment.
11:37 pm
11:38 pm
11:39 pm
11:40 pm
11:41 pm
>> our own rieman went down to charlotte for day one of the convention where delegates from all across the country gathered. what pray tell did you see? >> laura, don't let the lights behind me full you. there is nary a trace of the republican national convention here in charlotte prayed this streets are basically empty, but the delegates inside told me they were energized by the experience and they found out that all of their communities have the same concerns going
11:42 pm
into the selection. watch. >> our new york's democratic leadership, people want to be orable to get back to living thr life. what is holding them down? high taxes. not being able to know whether or not they will have there jobs, especially in mid covid. >> people want to get back to living. they want to get back to school and they want a level of socialization. >> and mask mandate is nonsense, we wear it out of support for the most vulnerable, but a mask mandate is not at all the direction we need to go. our people are suffering and now we have been posed into this impossible quarantine requirement. >> i don't think anybody will appreciate joe biden and his aoc protéges rolling into iowa and basically overwhelming and trying to negate what our governor has already done right. >> i think people are looking for a balanced approach, taking
11:43 pm
account of economic cost and the science. >> they want to hear safety, are our children going to be kept safe. they don't want to hear defund police, they want to here defend the police prayed. >> as originally planned 50,000 delegates weren't supposed to do it than this and for the convention, but as you can see, that didn't quite turn out as expected, 336 delegates are here in this trunking convention this week, but that did nothing did dampen the delegates enthusiasm for their party or theirei candidates, president trump. >> it was so awesome in enthusiasm with support for the president. >> this is a convention where we got down to business. our job is to get out the last 71 days and when. >> excited and motivated. today's event which was aat convention event, people were pumped. >> when you have a presidentd like donald trump is outlined a, b, c, nd, and has done that,
11:44 pm
people tend to believe that if he's going to say i'm going to do e, f, g, we believe he will do it. >> it was amazing to listen to these people, they really were energized having the president come here earlier today it made their week, but these delegates were out of here so quickly, but they concerns they raised about police, i just saw literally a black lives matter protest walk by our location here just moments ago. cops were hurt in a struggle earlier this evening, so the reality of it hits home right here in charlotte. >> i also think of the businesses in charlotte, that definitely need business, and they were just left with nothing basically. a lot of dz and a lot of virginia, a lot of maryland where we are, really quick, froe
11:45 pm
pistol for packing folks who were kind of put down by the man so to speak. >> what you saw happen to us could've easily happen to any of you that are watching from quiet neighborhoods around our country. >> these were not content with want to walk the halls of congress, they want to take over a. they want power. this is joe biden's private party, these are the people that would be in charge of the your future in the future of your children. >> they were really trying to take that, did it work? >> i think it resonates with a lot of people. i heard dana bash on another network criticizing the president wasn't socially distance from the people he was congratulating, first responders prayed this whole convention it seems to me is socially intouch it's a stark contrast to what we saw last week, this is the anti- social distancing convention. it may just be what america
11:46 pm
needs to see.mo >> you felt more connected to the content into the speakers and the president, they also did the covid test, but that was a stupid criticism, but we have the criticism just for fun, let's play it.t. >> we are broadcasting this by choice, but it's our responsibility to not unquestioningly broadcast potentially dangerous misinformation, especially of the medical variety. >> the present your reaction? can give first of all, wolf, they weren't socially distance,. >> where is the hall monitor? vr the party of home monitors now. they are the snitch party, the hall monitor party. >> any time you enter the white house, ear subjected to a covid test. before you can even enter the facility, e so this is in empty
11:47 pm
criticism so i hope they fact check everybody last week as well. they suffered greatly and suffered racism, who suffered a personal loss like andrew pollick, and they told their stories of donald trump that this other media refused to tell because it doesn't work with their endgame, which is got to defeat trump at all cost. trump might be rough around the edges, but i can tell you the personal narratives about him,en they weren't sugarcoating it, they were telling the exact way he has affected their personal lives and i think it came across as believable. and know him personally, so i know he's like that, but real quick. >> the emotional power that we saw tonight, and it was in emotional power, something rob. it was immediate and i think the american people will respond, it
11:48 pm
is in stark contrast to what we saw last week. >> raymond, thank you for the reporting from north carolina. there will be more convention to come. the untold story of trump's compassion. andrew pollack gave one of the best speeches of the night. stay tuned.
11:49 pm
11:50 pm
11:51 pm
11:52 pm
11:53 pm
years ago andrew pollack receive the loss their loss worse news of his life is loving daughter was shot and killed by edge arranged mass murder at her high school. from that day forward he dedicated his life to making sure no other parent has to suffer through what he did. it was on this journey that he got to meet president trump ncs site of him that americans really get to see. >> at the white house my family and i sat with the president in the oval office and told him about meadow. i told him what we knew, i told
11:54 pm
him that his administration needed to take a closer look at what went wrong and why. i got to see who president trump really is. he's a good man and a great listener and he cuts through the bs. then the president did what he said he would do. he took action. i truly believe the safety of our kids depends on whether this man is reelected. i hope you will join me in hoping to make that happen. andrew pollack is with us tonight why doesn't the media show or talk about, just for the heck of it, every once in a while, the other side of president trump's personality, he's tough, everybody knows that, but he has a big heart. i know you sought. >> first, i would like to tell everyone it's so emotional and raining when i give a speech like that because when i give a
11:55 pm
speech, i mean it. it comes from the heart and i do it for my daughter, to honor her. it was very draining into tell you the truth, i always i didn't always despise democrats as i do now. the day that my daughter was murdered i had a trump 2020 shirt on, and they started attacking me if you can believe it. the democrat started saying i deserved it, that my daughter was shot because i i had a 2020 shirt on. then, before my daughter was even. , the left started attacking the second amendment blaming the second amendment i wanted to look into what happened. when i looked into what happened, it made me angry. who was there to help me?
11:56 pm
one person, senator scott came and help me, a republican and that's what i said in my speech also, president trump called me to the white house where we sat down and we discussed what went wrong, the policies in place, and i never knew he was going to follow through on everything, but he did, he opened the federal school safety commission rate he listen to me and did everything he said he was going to do and he really it meant a lot to me and to the other parkland families. kids are safer without those biden, obama policies. >> in case the audience doesn't believe you, andrew, about this narrative that's out there about the president, here it is. >> it is pretty clear there is a profound empathy and gap between president trump and joe biden. >> we have seen him act cruel, we have seen his lack of
11:57 pm
empathy. >> republican and democrat, they have all been capable of great empathy. >> this president is wholly incapable and uninterested in doing. >> andrew, your reaction? >> it's laughable, iea know the guy personally, he sends me personal messages every so often, just last week at a press conference, you mentioned her name. the world is on his shoulders, he's getting attacked day in and day out and he mentions my daughter's name out of the blue in a press conference. you means well, he puts the country first. he did everything he could to make our children safe in that federal school commission. i respect him and i will do anything for him to get reelected. you know what else democrats, the problem with democrats is, they are even looking to remove school resource officers they don't look to back the police,
11:58 pm
they are looking to defend them in these times, we need to help the police officers. >> that's a really good point, and i have not focused on that come, this school safety officersn. >> can you imagine? >> it was bad enough at parkland, it's somebody that didn't go into the building, but the idea of not having anyone there, and then defunding the police. >> laura, we did so much research, and then governor scott did what he always does, he did the right thing, he opened a commission and he put a commission in place in the state of florida to look into all the failures that happened. what makes florida different than other states, we made it a lot, we passed a bill in the state of florida, that is mandatory to have police officers in schools. so any of these liberal counties where you've got these people
11:59 pm
