helps veterans walk with the help of an exo skeleton. >> bret: and trace adkins with an a capella version of the national anthem. mike pence quoted joe biden saying no miracles are coming and saying i have news for you, america is a nation of miracles. pointed when it came to law and order. the truth is you won't be safe in joe biden's america. >> martha: it's also interesting, he also echoed a line that bill clinton said. he said if you want a nation that falls silent when insulted, he's not your man. mike pence flipped that around. >> bret: as we did last night in the rose garden, anybody around

the president and the first lady gets tested, the covid-19 test. we assume everybody in this area did. we don't have that nailed down but we assume that's the case. we're back with our panel and we'll get final thoughts from all of us here. dana, first you. >> if you just look at the staging of this event, if you want to put on a good event for the vice president, they put one on tonight at fort mchenry. the surprise of the president and the first lady arriving for this moment. also is in stark contrast to the biden campaign. there are ways that you can do some of these things in a safe way in the middle of coronavirus. i feel like that the biden-harris team has to figure out a way to get out of delaware and get on the road and campaign. this convention will give president trump a boost. might be fleeting for both candidates after their convention. this is a key to that.
8:17 pm
the last thing i'd say is the political speeches were great tonight. i think that their focus on every day heros showed a contrast as well to the democrat's convention. every day heros will beat celebrities every time. >> martha: juan, a thought on that. the staging. kamala harris looking out at the empty room with the old placards for each state. it was an awkward moment. many ways to take advantage of an opportunity to do that in a different way. i think if you're her tonight, you're saying why didn't i get something a little more energetic. >> i think it's been a tremendously well-produced program. i don't think there's any question about it. but for me, i just find that there's such a distance between this glossy well-done reality show, if you will and what is going on in america tonight in terms of the reports of violence and kenosha and minneapolis and elsewhere. it's an unsettled reality even
8:18 pm
as we've seen many black speakers here at this convention speaking on behalf of president trump. that we have such racial tension. we heard from vice president pence tonight, an emphasize on law and order and you won't be safe in joe biden's america. biden came out and made a statement in which he said protesters are right, but violence is wrong. i thought that mike pence might have something to say about the shooting of that young man in kenosha. again, his focus was on the notion of violence. so i think that that is a key distinction of republicans and democrats. >> bret: britt? >> these conventions for many years now have been basically four-day shows. so a lot of what -- how you assess them is based on the stage craft. the stage craft tonight and it's fair to say the other nights have been sharp as others have suggested. this idea that you end up with the national anthem and old

glory over fort mchenry and the president and the first lady come out is pretty good stuff in terms of putting on a show. for the speech, the main speech, mike pence's speech, pence is a workman-like speaker. but his speech was well-written and packed with jabs at biden and attempts to defend the truck record, which this week has to be about for the republicans. it's believed they're behind. they believe they're behind. they're hoping this will give them a boost. i wouldn't be surprised if it did. >> martha: the president doing what he loves to do. taking pictures with the folks in the front row. he will hang around awhile doing that. he enjoys this part of campaigning. chris wallace, your thoughts. >> you know, people abuse the word stage craft. that's the right world. if they put this much thought and this much stage craft into the acceptance speech by the vice president, i can't even
8:20 pm
imagine what tomorrow is going to be like when donald trump delivering his acceptance speech on the south lawn of the white house. it was a well-crafted speech. he spent the first part making as strong a case as you can for the trump record. he took some liberties in the way he described the president's response to the coronavirus. that happens in political speeches. really took apart joe biden's record on foreign policy, on the economy, on his response, the fact -- we all commented on it last week, that he didn't say a word about the violence in the streets of america. they're going to hammer that. no question about it. a very effective speech. the most remarkable thing about tonight, how often have you seen donald trump at a big public event where he doesn't say a word? actually i applaud him. this is mike pence's night and he's not one-upping him. he's paying tribute to him. mike pence has been a good loyal

soldier. he did a really good job tonight and tomorrow it's donald trump's turn. >> karl rove, notice there were prominent black speakers every night defending president trump and a number of different ways. three, four, five of them. do you think that they're seeing numbers maybe with black males or -- that they're moving? there's clearly an appeal here. >> i think they openly acknowledged earlier in the year that they were seeing very good numbers among black men particularly younger black men and i think the diversity that has been exemplified is a very good thing for the republicans. the best night was last night when we had one woman that stood up and said my father wore a turbine and my mother wore a sorry and a young man stand up and say my family has gone from
8:22 pm
cotton to congress in one lifetime. very strong. i want to say one thing. i agree with chris. very effective speech by the vice president. the most sustained defense of the administration's response to coronavirus of any of the speakers that i've seen thus far. the republicans have to engage on it. they may not win the issue but they have to fight and lay out their case. then he punched hard on the two issues, rebuilding the economy and then the violence and looting and rioting that we're seeing in our cities. thee were both effectively done. what will be interesting tomorrow night is if the president does what needs to be done and can be done best by him and that is to lay out his second act. no president gets re-elected by saying i've done a good job and they get re-elected by drawing a contrast between themselves and their opponent and part of that is to say i have a second act in me that you're going to like with what i'm continuing with next.
8:23 pm
>> donna brazile, your thoughts on the fact that we heard joe biden start to play catch-up on this idea of recognizing the violence in the cities. again, if anybody is taking a look at minneapolis right now, it's awful. kenosha is having another rough night. your thoughts? >> i want to agree with my colleagues. it was great pagentry tonight. the president have did what most vice presidents do. he lifted up the reigning champ who has been battered and bruised but unbowed. he really gave it to joe biden. so joe biden, come on. get ready. this is going to be a fight. he did mention kamala harris, which i thought was interesting on women's equality day. i won't blame him for that. joe biden has been speaking out. gun violence, whether it's in the streets and in the form of looting, which is lawlessness, rioting. joe biden has been lifting up the names of those murdered. i think a president that can do that, who can say no to
8:24 pm
violence, no to looting, but also no to killing unarmed people and a president that can say black lives matter is a president that will win this election. >> bret: it's been quite a night. night number 3. the big one tomorrow with president trump taking center stage. we should point out that not everyone we're told was tested in that crowd. we don't know the mix. just wanted to clarify that from saying that earlier. remember that hurricane laura is striking tonight. it was mentioned in the haven't's speech. it's going to be a part of this convention going forward. we have you covered on fox news channel. thanks for watching. i'm back tomorrow with "special report". >> i'll see you on "the story." "the ingraham angle" is next. good night from washington. >> laura: i'm laura ingraham. this is "the ingraham angle." mike pence just wrapped up a really powerful address from the beautiful fort mchenry monument

in baltimore, maryland. a spectacular evening in washington. no rain here. throughout this hour, you'll hear from a number of tonight's featured speakers, lara trump, ric grenell and kevin mccarthy and the congressional side of things. fox news contributors ari fleischer and raymond arroyo. after watching this tonight, i have to conclude that today was a bad day for the democrats. why? new polls showing the race is tightening in the battleground states which means he they haven't gotten any bounce from their convention. they finally started to realize that riots and looting is hurting them politically.. so they were forced to roll out old joe with a statement condemning the violence that has been roiling but cities for

months. tonight the republicans had more bad news. over and over, republican speakers hit themes and issues that were ignored last week at the dnc. a chinese activist warned about the dangers of the ccp. a millennial candidate for congress talked about how the gop is the party of economic opportunity only 25 years old. for the third night in a row, a line-up of eloquent african american speakers rebutted the lie that america is a racist country. iemphasised the long history of support for civil rights. in short, another night of positive upbeat messages about the promise of america. >> there is another american hero to be recognized. that is the common american. this is who president trump is fighting for. he's fighting for you. >> for decades, he's elevated

8:30 pm
the same old result. donald trump is not a politician. he's a leader. politicians are a dime a dozen. leaders are priceless. >> laura: here with exclusive reaction to tonight's speeches is someone who delivered a fantastic one herself. trump 2020 senior adviser, lara trump. lara, we heard from here -- heros, a chinese dissident, americans that want you to know that donald trump is fighting for them. was that missing even after four years in office? >> yeah, well, i think what you heard from so many people is really about the donald trump like you're pointing out that never gets portrayed out there. this is a man that work tirelessly for this country. i wanted in my speech to highlight the fact that this is a man that loves his family,
8:31 pm
that treated me like family from day one. who was a great person. you know, he gets characterized much differently out there oftentimes in the mainstream media. there's no doubt after watching three days of our convention that people in this country are hopeful, inspired, excited about going back to the voting booth and voting for donald trump on november 3. much different than what you saw last week laura, from the democrats which was so depressing and dark and didn't leave anybody hopeful or excited. hopefully everybody is taking that away. we worked hard to make sure this was upbeat and so great and really show-cased this president. i think in the way that so many of us see him but never gets portrayed out there in the media. >> lara, i thought it was striking and brought tears to my eyes. when i saw the disabled -- i believe most of them were veterans in the front row at
8:32 pm
fort mchenry and the president made his way, i don't think it was planned but he walked down the stairs to go interact with them, that was a beautiful moment at a time when so many are deciding not to stand for the anthem, for their own reasons. but i think america -- i think they're craving that. that is my sense. >> yeah. what a beautiful moment. these soldiers are part of a group called soldier strong. really they have these mechanisms that allow them to stand specifically for the national anthem. you're right. at a time in our country when so many take that for granted and really are doing something that these people i think feel maybe is a little insulting to them, that have fought and either given their lives or part of their body for our country. of course the president went down. he always wants to be among the people and say thank you for their sacrifice, thank you to the military, police officers. another great portrayal of
8:33 pm
donald trump and the man that so many of us know. >> laura: i want to play what i thought was the line of the evening from vice president mike pence. watch. >> our economic recovery is on the ballot. law and order are on the ballot. but so are things far more fundamental and foundational to our country. in this election, it's not so much whether america will be more conservative or more liberal, more republican or more democrat, the choice in this election is whether america remains america. >> laura: lara, that's what i'm hearing from so many folks that i come across. it's like they don't recognize what is happening in america today. >> yeah, those are such powerful words from our vice president. i mean, the reality is when you hear joe biden himself say that he wants to fundamentally transform america, he tells you
8:34 pm
right there what his plans are. people don't want this country transformed, laura. this is the greatest nation in the history of the world. we want to keep our freedoms. we are a beacon of hope for so many across the world that don't have our freedoms and opportunities. they seek out the united states as an example. they fly our american flag when they cannot fly their own. that is what america is all about. we should never forget that. we're fighting to keep america america. never has there been an election more consequential as we head to november 3. i hope people remember that. >> laura: thanks, lara. great to see you. let's bring in our political panel. ari fleischer, former white house press secretary and sarah carter host of the sarah carter podcast and raymond arroyo. all fox news contributors. ari, to you first. what was the moment for you that had the most impact on what they wanted to accomplish tonight?
8:35 pm
>> you know, the biggest and you add up for the three days is the first time in four years, people are praising donald trump. this is unheard of sound in america. people are so used to the controversy and all the fighting and all the media opposition to him. the first time, people can see groups of americans from all walks of life say good things about the president, his accomplishments and plans for the future. that is what is striking. if you reinforce something everybody knows, you don't gain ground. but if you hear something, new, that's how you gain more ground in politics. the outreach. the appeal that the president is making to the african american community. he started in his policy and the state of the union and knew here in his convention is so welcome and it's important to the president and to the party and necessary. >> laura: i don't think you saw
8:36 pm
that to that extent in any previous republican convention that i've attended. to your point. here's former nfl player jack brewer tonight if you missed him. >> before i left to come to deliver this message, my energetic 8-year-old son jackson stopped me and said dad, can you please tell everyone that all lives need to matter and that got loves everyone? we're not as divided as our politics suggest. are you going to allow the media to lie to you by falsely claiming that he said there are very fine white supremacists in charlottesville? it's a lie. >> calling out the lies of the left. >> that's what was so powerful tonight. we saw heart and emotion and a correction of a narrative. when i was in charlotte, i spoke to a lot of women. the number 1 complaint that they had about donald trump is the tweets, the language. what we read about him. charlottesville. here you had somebody attempting
8:37 pm
to correct the record and then women coming forward saying no, this is how he impacted our life. the evening couldn't have been more powerful. this is a play for the 53% of women that voted for donald trump last time. he needs to keep them in the tent. i think this evening touched them. it was powerfully moving. mothers talking about their children with downs syndrome. >> laura: we're getting to the nun in a moment. she rocked. sarah, speaking of things you didn't hear at the dnc, anybody speaking about china. so what did the rnc do? the republicans featured chen guangchen. >> the ccp is an enemy of humanity. the u.s. must use its values of freedom, democracy and the rule of law to gather a coalition to stop ccp's aggression.
8:38 pm
president trump has done this. >> laura: sarah, jaw-dropping. >> it was jaw-dropping. what i took from the rnc so far from this convention is that the trump administration, president trump, vice president pence is giving a voice to the voiceless. to those suffering under the ccp, to the unborn children, to this incredible nun, the sister that was able to fight for the unborn and stand up to women, to kayleigh mcenanythat stood up there with all of they are strength told this very personal story, to lara trump that talked about the family and to the american people. that to me is what is so essential about the rnc convention. it was so moving. for the first time our nation,
8:39 pm
you know, like you brought it up, laura, the dnc doom and groom. for the first time as americans, we can stand together and know that we're actually being heard. that we have a president that actually cares and listens to us. that's what i took from it. >> laura: the voiceless. we've heard that so often the last three years. ari, throughout the three days, we've been hearing powerful stories about donald trump's compassion. here's one of them about a mom discussing her disabled son whom she pushed against doctors orders. >> president trump shook my hand and said, wonderful job, mom. your son is amazing. unlike the doctor that told me to end samuel's life before it even began, president trump did not dismiss my son. he showed samuel that he valued him and was proud of who he accomplished. president trump gave samuel an
8:40 pm
equal seat at the table. >> laura: ari, what effect to these testimonials to life have? >> they make you think of president trump in a different light. people acknowledge that he's a tough guy. that's why he got elected. you wanted that to change washington. but he has a vulnerability. they say he's tough. they know it. but does he care? is he too tough? some of his tweets make you think he can be too offensive sometimes. so the moment to set for the president tomorrow to nail the landing. i like him to talk about covid and talk about the people that he knows that lost their lives. he's known several. they have touched him. it's affected him. he should talk about their memory, what it means to him and why he's fighting to get rid of this illness. that personal connection goes really far in america and connects to policy because this government has done a tremendous amount to fight covid.
8:41 pm
he does not get the credit for it that he should. that personal touch is very important. >> laura: show his heart tomorrow. important to do. i want your reaction to sister deidra burn, what she said tonight. >> as followers of christ, we're called to stand up for life against the politically correct or fashion of today. as a physician, i can say without hesitation, life begins at conception. donald trump is the most pro life president that this nation has ever had defending life at all stages. his belief in the sanctity of life transcends politics. >> laura: democrats showcased a left-wing nun on the bus without a habit. i like the nuns in the habit. >> you didn't have to ask. you knew it. sister burn. this is an army surgeon. then she took her vows, went to afghanistan and became a nun. she may have been the most
8:42 pm
outspoken sister speaking for life, urging catholics to vote this way. this is about the selflessness, the caring, the heart for the other. donald trump tomorrow has to convey some of that as ari was saying. i think he also has to find a way to personalize his fight, his grit. he goes to walter reed almost every week. we were with a roundtable of reporters before the state of the union. he talked about pulling troops out of afghanistan. the reason he did so is because he saw what they went through and the suffering up close. he has to tell that story to reporters in private but to the people at home, a big night for this -- >> laura: i'm sorry. a full bird colonel, a surgeon and a nun. you have to love it. no sister act. >> no sister act tonight. >> laura: great to see all of you. former actor director of national tell, ric grenell gave an amazing speech tonight. he's here next. and kevin mccarthy.

>> joe biden asked intelligence officials to uncover the hidden information on the president's national security adviser. that's the democrats. they never want the american people to know who is actually calling the shots. but with donald trump, you always know exactly who is in charge. because the answer is you. >> laura: loved that line. it's your government. they work for you. former acting director of intelligence, ric grenell. he joins us now. ambassador grenell, love the speech. you mentioned tonight that trump always has america's interests at heart when he's in the negotiating room, when he's there trying to cut a deal. what would biden and his negotiating style mean? >> look, i spent eight years
8:49 pm
inside the u.n. security council. there's this philosophy that you must have consensus in order to move forward on foreign policy issues at the u.n. that's exactly what you're going to get with joe biden. consensus with the europeans, consensus with a whole bunch of other allies. what consensus is really about is the lowest common denominator of an agreement. it sounds like it's a really good idea, consensus, that world sounds like we're going to get along. but consensus for americans means that others get to veto our policies. so i have to tell you, i spent eight years at the u.n. every country thinks about themselves first. they make decisions about their people. there's one country in the entire world gets in trouble when they focus on themselves.
8:50 pm
the united states. i tried to make the case that america first just means that we think about americans security first. that's prosperity, national security, all of the things that make us a great country. we will no longer be a great country if we have to have a worldwide consensus of a policy, which means lowest common denominator. >> laura: if biden is president, europe gets whatever europe wants. china gets whatever china wants for the most part and a bunch of never trumpers still worried about russia. china has the largest standing army in the world. that's how i see it. >> yeah. it's exactly the case. look no further than during the obama-biden administration. they had a policy that the europeans should pay more at nato but they never made it an issue. they certainly never told the germans that you had to make this an issue.
8:51 pm
donald trump has given nato $41 billion in new money just simply by telling the europeans and nato members that you have to pay more, this is something that they've been saying to us, we hear you but we really don't want to do it. a joe biden administration, you'll have the europeans and others at the u.n. vetoing the u.s. policy if they don't like something. >> laura: i want to play what general keith kellogg said tonight that raised eyebrows. >> over the past 3 1/2 years, i witnessed every major foreign policy and national security decision by the president. i have been in the room where it happened. i saw only one agenda. one guiding question when tough calls had to be made. is this decision right for america? >> well, the room where it happened is just lyrics from hamilton. it's a title of john bolton's
8:52 pm
book. was that a swipe at bolton? >> no. i think what the general was trying to say, he's there and he knows that president trump is focused on the american people. you know, laura, i've seen it over and over. you know, big wealthy people come in and they complain about energy prices, gas prices. i have seen president trump say, you know, i think that it's cheaper gas for the american people. he really does think about these issues in terms of what is good for everyday americans. i love it. i love watching him negotiate. >> laura: i know. i have never seen a president and i've had a chance to meet a lot, many presidents, talk about how much stuff costs. you how much it costs to have the troops there? he cares about how much we're spending on stuff that might not be delivering the returns to the american people that we need. i'm so glad you brought that up. fantastic speech tonight. ambassador grenell, thanks so much. speaking of powerful speeches,

my next guest will be addressing the rnc tomorrow night and lay out what is at stakes if democrats are allow to take full control of congress. joining me now, house minority leader, kevin mccarthy. what could nancy pelosi possibly be thinking after watching this series of testimonials about our love for this country and the respect for house the president has put americans interests firsts in every decision. >> she has two fears. she wonders why she wasted the majority and now she's wondering why she wasted the democrat convention. ours is hope versus despair. helping versus defunding. we're talking about cures instead of shutting down the country. no greater contrast. >> we have marine one landing behind us. i'll shout over that for a bit.
8:54 pm
the president coming back from fort mchenry after an incredible night. congressman mccarthy, a lot of folks and we talked about this earlier, women especially, i would say, tone and emotion, matters to everybody. but women, it matters. how you come across to people. what do you say tonight to the people watching about what you've seen from the president behind closed doors repeatedly in your interactions with him? the toughness, yes. but what else? >> i've watched places that people have not seen. i watched where we were flying one day saying i'm cutting this rally short because we're going to dover because two americans were killed. when we went out to dover, i watched this man stand in the rain with no umbrella, nothing. when he sat and talked to the families, the empathy that he showed, the caringness that he showed. i watched and got back on air force one.
8:55 pm
that's all he talked about, the life that was lost and why it was lost. i watched them when there was shooting victims and a family in the back. these are things that nobody sees. i hope through tonight our through this convention, you can see the i'm pa -- empathy that he's given. it wasn't hollywood stars. it's real american stars. it's about president trump. he's listening to a voice nobody would hear before. he's the one that is putting them first instead of hollywood. that is something that i want america to see. >> laura: there was a moment on another network tonight where they tried to kind of dismiss the republicans' concerns or the way they discussed the riots. watch. >> the caricature of your city, the democrat-run cities. is that -- the whole country is at risk of falling into anarchy
8:56 pm
and chaos. does have it a material effect on your ability to govern? >> it did have an impact on the summer on some things because the president and fox news were so insistent on driving that message, that people started to come there to make the reality real. >> laura: of course, another blue state mayor blaming now president trump for i guess heightening the violence in the pacific northwest. congressman? >> every single night in portland, this is going on. seattle, chicago. you know, the other difference? this president engaged for wisconsin and was going to send more troops. it was the governor that did not take the full number that he needed of why we have more problems in wisconsin, this is what the real discussion is about. you were right when you spoke earlier about the powerful words of the vice president. this is not a battle of republican versus democrat. this is really coming down to
8:57 pm
socialism versus freedom. we had barack obama saying there's no difference between joe biden and bernie sanders. bernie sanders is a registered socialist. that's what we're competing against today. that's why we need to move forward, not backwards. >> laura: congressman, thank you so much for joining us tonight. we appreciate it. we're also tracking hurricane laura. the massive storm hours from making landfall in louisiana as a dangerous kat timpf -- category four storm. we're keeping our eyes on it. we have a live report later on in the hour. but coming up, a night of violence and rage in kenosha left two people dead. we'll speak with a reporter on the scene when the shooting broke out last night. breaking news on the investigation into the police shooting that set this all off. stay there. ♪

>> get down, get down, get down! >> laura: chaos in kenosha last night left hurco people dead. the footage you just saw allegedly shows 17-year-old kyle rittenhouse opening fire and hitting two rioters. shortly after that incident, he surrendered to police and has since been charged with first-degree murder. we are still learning about all of those details, and what went down, but the important point here is this all happened after wisconsin's democratic governor, tony evers, refused the additional help when the white house initially offered it. joining me now is a reporter who was on the ground during last night's shooting, jorge ventura with the daily caller. jorge, it took a night of bloodshed for evers to change his mind, i guess 200 agents and marshals from the fbi, atf, u.s. ms, the marshall service set by doj earlier today, but my

goodness, one of your colleagues was robbed at gunpoint tonight? is that right? >> yes, laura, it's been chaotic all over. we had a reporter robbed by gunpoint tonight for his bulletproof vest and a backpack in minneapolis, it seems the looting has happened, and here in kenosha, things have been chaotic. i got here on monday night, it seems the mob was focusing on the county courthouse once the national guard dispersed the crowd from the county courthouse, that's when the mob focused their attention on the city and the town. we've seen it over ten businesses, structure fires looted, ransacked. it's been a very chaotic scene. business owners are very distraught of what's going down here in kenosha. >> laura: now, jorge, from the initial reporting, the daily caller and others, independent journalists on the ground, a lot of the major networks aren't capturing this video. people -- a lot of people don't
9:05 pm
even know the extent of the violence. is that what you are seeing? >> yeah, laura, like i said, it's been very chaotic. on monday night according to the fire department in -- between monday and sunday, 30 businesses have been damaged or looted, we see the department of corrections burned to the ground, i spoke with one local who spoke to me come on monday night, he witnessed a 7-year-old -- a 7-year-old man trying to defend his business and was assaulted by a mob and attacked by multiple people, unsuccessfully, and unfortunately, he was not able to defend his business, it was burned to the ground, and today, laura, i was speaking to some locals who are wary they don't have enough wood to protect their homes, businesses, i mean, if you just walk around kenosha right now, it seems almost like a war zone, and no one would ever kind of imagine this to be going down in the middle of america, in a small town in wisconsin. >> laura: jorge, please stay safe and thank you for doing the reporting that the mainstream media will not. we will check back with you

soon. here to react to the violence in kenosha, rachel campos duffy, host of the fox nation shown "mom" at a wisconsin resident. also lara logan, host of "letter logan has no agenda." is a resident of beautiful wisconsin, what is the reaction from your fellow wisconsinites about the lack of leadership from the state, the governor, and the violence we are seeing again tonight? >> it's astounding, and people have to understand, this is not an inner city, this is a little kenosha, a small city of 100,000 people, a blue-collar town where people put on their boots and go to work. they can't believe that governor evers didn't do anything until he started -- he and biden starting to seep poll numbers go down. they were willing to sacrifice the city to all these outside agitators in the name of ideology, political cowardice,
9:07 pm
whatever. it's unbelievable, and i'm going to tell you what, laura, i think when this election is over, you are going to see that kenosha is an inflection point in the selection, because wisconsin is crucial, and everybody knows that the election and the victory run through little towns like this, blue-collar workers who voted for trump that biden needed to win over, and they are seeing the cowardice and the apathy towards them, and only a reaction when they saw the political fortunes were on the line. >> laura: yeah, and lay her out, where reporters? where are the mainstream media reporters? >> that's a very good question, laura, because in portland, for example, the violence went on for weeks and weeks and was barely covered by anyone except, you know, a lot of independent young reporters who were there on the ground. they had very little backing, very little resources, and they really are putting themselves at great risk. they get antifa, they get outed
9:08 pm
come have to be very, very careful, and i'm talking about, there are reporters like drew hernandez, kyle clewiston, julio ventura who you mentioned, julio rosoff, elijah shea thought, a whole bunch of them, if it weren't for them being on the ground, we wouldn't know the truth of what is happening there. i think some analysts say, well, what concerns the most is if you zoom out from the riots and you look at what is being said on a political level about how the election results won't come for sometimes because of mailing ballots, hillary clinton saying biden mustn't concede, they worry this is a rehearsal for what will come if the election results are disputed or contested in any way. >> laura: perhaps days or weeks of civil unrest, that seems to be what they are threatening. i think they are going to turn a lot of voters away, perhaps, from the democrats, if that happens. it's a bad strategy, and of

course, illegal. ladies, thank you so much tonight. and hurricane laura is set to make landfall on the gold coast any moment now. we have a live report from leland vittert, who is right in the path of the storm. plus, night three, well, speaker burgess owens is here to explain why the fight to save football is a perfect allegory on what the two parties are proposing and whether voters might be changing their minds. coming up. . - i'm szasz. ♪ >> laura: hurricane laura smashing into the gulf coast tonight, and the storm is bringing life-threatening wind, storm surge, and flooding louisiana and texas. our thoughts and our deep prayers go out to everyone in harm's way. fox's leland vittert is on the ground in lake charles, with the latest update. leland, my goodness. >> laura, save some of those thoughts and prayers for the first responders and rescuers who will head out at first light. it will be a long and dangerous night here in louisiana. we are still about two hours from landfall, probably another three or four hours until the eye reaches where we are, and still getting wins of 60 miles an hour. the story here is not going to be the wins, all the 150 miles an hour sounds impressive, it is the storm surge, and that is

what will be unsurvivable. you can see the water that has been rising over the last couple of hours, will end up being about this tall by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. that means entire towns are going to be underwater, an area roughly the size of rhode island will be underwater come daybreak tomorrow, about 500,000 people have been under mandatory evacuations, and officials were saying there was not enough people who heeded the warnings, and does laura continue to strengthen over the last 24 hours, a number of people were not able to get out. the coast guard is already planning search and rescue missions for first light, though they have to wait until the winds died down to about 45 miles an hour until they are able to safely make their way into these neighborhoods. that will be submerged, probably, laura, with a number of houses washed away. >> laura: leland, thank you so much. please stay safe out there. >> this november, we stand at a
