brian: i don't know how they do that i can't even get a bottle rocket to go in the air. this is pretty amazing. took the back drop and put the crowd there critics say why weren't they wearing masks and social distanced? that's fine. that's a criticism, perhaps. but it was real. if you compare the two conventions in terms of production and in terms of content and in terms of the disparity in guests, i just think the republicans just knocked it out of the park. and if you don't believe this thing has tightened up, steve, joe biden says he is actually going to start campaigning after labor day. he didn't plan on doing that i am sure unless this thing is tightening up. he has got to actually try to earn this now. steve: joe biden is not waiting. because, obviously, we had heard that the polling. brian: he says he is waiting until after labor day. steve: to leave the place. yesterday for the first time suddenly out of nowhere joe biden does two interviews. anderson cooper and andrea mitchell.

the president of the united states, this essentially summarizes it, keep me in this house. trump says i kept my promises. biden will lead to chaos. that's what essentially he said in his 70-minute long speech. joe biden was less than half that length. griff jenkins has been there during both the conventions and joins us with the highlights of the finale to last night's big show on the south lawn. griff? griff: boy, it sure was, steve, ainsley and brian. those fireworks brian you mentioned how did they do it? america's first family of fireworks they call themselves the grucci family did that. they had a permit to do so. worthy of a fourth of july celebration. they did it as the president accepted that nomination. he promises the best is yet to come. warning of a future under joe biden. watch. >> biden is a trojan horse for socialism. no one will be safe in biden's america. my administration will always stand with the men and women of law enforcement.

a box. steve: see that police officer right there in the front, is he holding a bike del up. so that he can protect rand paul but somebody pushes into the cop and into the bicycle and next thing you know. >> look at his wife right there. i'm sure they are terrified. this is what it is amounting to. our politicians are getting bombarded by protesters. he actually feared for his life because of he tweeted out thank you to the officers for saving my life. literally saving my life. is he going to be on our show at 8:15 this morning, brian. brian: rand paul gets attacked by his neighbor and can't even walk down the street at work. ainsley: unbelievable. broken ribs. brian: if you are looking for big celebrities that are starring in sitcoms look for another convention. instead you get people who were freed from prison. parents saying they appreciate the support that they got, even though their daughter was unable to be reclaimed from isis but the support he has gotten, real life stories. real accomplishments and even people who got a chance to know

him like herschel walker and dana white is the guy we need. guy not up for the job according to michelle obama, had a list of accomplishments and supporters and diverse average every day americans who were trumpeting his cause. here is the president. this is the most important elections in the hills industry of our country. [cheers and applause] at no time before have voters faced a clearer choice between two parties, two visions. two philosophies or two agendas. this election will decide whether we save the american dream or whether we allow a socialist agenda to demolished our cherished destiny. this election will decide whether we will defend the american way of life or whether we will allow a radical movement to completely dismantle and

destroy it. brian: so as the president wrapped up his speech last night, it went a little bit longer than many people thought and great for them to go into the musical during the recap show where bret baier, brit hume and company. weave had a lot of opera in the background. most opera that i have heard sings episodes of the odd couple. two things ran out how dynamic the family is ivanka, don jr. and how under utilized melania has been. her speech was fantastic. captured the coronavirus. ainsley: and the american dream. brian: in terms of president being proud cause and see them as eloquent as they were throughout the four days is pretty impressive even though we got a chance to really meet them over the last four years. bring in hogan gidley. national press secretary in the trump campaign. seeing him in the white house close and personal. hogan, despite the critic who said don't use the white house,

it's a violation of the hatch act, not only did the president use the white house, he use offed the whole lawn, put a live audience in. had the washington monument as a back drop and off go to the fireworks. what do you think the message is? >> what an incredible exclamation point put at the end of a wonderful week outlining the greatness of america. it is the land of opportunity. it is the land of promise. it is most certainly the land of heroes and it was on full gla display for all the world to see last night. what a different message we had as republicans as republicans and behind the leadership of this president versus the democrats and what they had. the democrats spent four days telling everyone that america is inherently evil, that it is the cause of the world's problems and that is a flat out lie. this country is the greatest idea ever realize you had, a bee con of hope of compassion of strength of freedom around the world.

that's what we talked about and we didn't use the hollywood elites. we used the heartland to tell everyone this is how amazing our country is. it was real people who not only praised this country for the opportunities they have been afforded here. they couldn't get anywhere else. they also praised the president's policies and pointed out how he has positively impacted their lives. it was incredible week. i was so blessed to be a part of it. steve: when you contrast the two conventions, it was very clear and the republicans reminded everybody of this, during the dnc, you know, joe biden really never denounced the violence that has been sweeping our nation, which continues to this day. i want your reaction to mr. biden but, first, before that, you know, you are talking about the everyday heroes who were featured at the rnc. an every day hero nobody knew about was david dorn, he was a retired police captain who was

killed during some of the protests in st. louis. his wife spoke out about what is happening in the country. there is mr. done right there. captain done. here is his wife. listen to her and then your reaction to what's going on in the streets. >> as i slept, looters were ransacking the shop. they shot and killed david in cold blood. i learned of all of this around 4:00 a.m. when our doorbell rang. the chief of police was standing outside. i wondered why dave had not answered the door. i let in the chief and fighting back tears he uttered the words every officer's spouse dreads. i relive that horror in my mind every single day. my hope is that having you relive it with me now will help shake this country from this nightmare we are witnessing in

our cities. steve: so heart felt and so awful what that family has gone through. the president last night said we have to give law enforcement our police back their power they are afraid to act lose their job. they can't do their job. the people who suffered most are the people they so desperately want to protect. joe biden said yesterday in one of the couple of interviews he did that donald trump is rooting for more violence. he said he is pouring gasoline on the fire. mr. biden said i condemn violence in any form whether it's looting or whatever it is. we didn't hear that message last week. why is mr. biden speaking out now? >> it's very interesting. i do want to comment on mrs. done we watched that obviously in the campaign headquarters there wasn't a dry eye in the entire building. it was very heart felt emotional moment. but to hear joe biden talk about condemning this time of violence number that took the life of mrs. done's husband is too little, too late. this has been going on now close to 90 days and the only time we

have heard from joe biden was to defund the police which is absolutely ridiculous notion. people want more police. not less. but also the response comes at a time when so many of these cities are way past a breaking point. steve: what changed, hogan, why is joe biden speaking out now? >> sadly you heard it on other networks it is not helping him politically. is he doing it for purely political reasons. the democrats now have basically admitted. this some of these other tv hosts as i mentioned even said the quiet part out loud that it's hurting joe biden politically, it is helping donald trump. so he needs to come out and address it. don't come out and address it because people's businesses have been destroyed. don't come out and address it because churches have been burned, people have lost their lives, no. only do it for politics. that shows you where the democrat mentality is i have to

say these cities that are burning are absolutely controlled by democrats. the president pointed that out last night. but we didn't hear anything about these democrat controlled cities being destroyed at the democrat convention. how do you not mention what is gripping this nation right now with this lawlessness, this criminal behavior, this death and destruction. they completely ignored it. and there's a reasonable why all of these police unions that used to support joe biden are now coming out and supporting donald trump because they know he will also have their back. ainsley: when you look at the dohrn family the reasonable she is speaking out now because the issue for her family is law and order. her husband died as a result of it. our country is so divided right now. some people are progressives, the other side wants law and order and doesn't want to see our country going in the wrong direction. there are a lot of democrats who speak out saying reasons why they either voted for president trump before or why they are

changing their minds and they're going to vote for him this time. and the republican party or the administration put together this montage of democrats that are now voting for trump. watch this. >> but liberalism has changed, and i don't fit there anymore. i'm a democrat, my parents are democrats. i was a huge usama bin laden supporter. >> in the 2016 primary i voted for bernie sanders. you i mean i was a socialist. >> it feels like democrats sort of get people hooked on this drug of free money where they basically say, you know, if you want your fix you have to keep voting for us. >> his entire campaign works for all americans, that was a turning point for me. >> i want people to hear my story and want people to know that you can go from being a democratic socialist to being a trump supporter. >> i hope that trump wins and we can continue with the progress he has made and the policyst he has put into place. ainsley: you know, brian and steve, it's interesting because that is what people are talking about. i know here in this city and new york, i have had friends saying

they are worried about even going to sit outside because you can't sit inside restaurants because they are worried somebody will come up to their table or rob them or they're there won't be a police officer around or call 911 get a recording saying we are backlog and we can't come and help you. scary times. brian: absolutely. big story in the "the washington post" today people have got to calm down right and left. it's politics, country, same thing we are all in this together. you might have different beliefs, but there is no reason to harms people because they want to go to dinner or they want to get in their car. i think everyone has got to realize that. there is no winners there. in fact, initial who is for the biden cause and was aggravated about biden you see the way arranged paul was treated and lose your argument entirely. other thing to keep in mind donald trump is going full bore going to new hampshire and over to texas and louisiana over the weekend. and joe biden is going to have to go into situations where there is going to be no script. and that's what donald trump wants. and if he starts dropping the

>> the obama administration administration said it was doing everything the trump accommodation is. if donald trump had been president when kayla was captured she would be here today. brian: i don't know how that parents were able to get through that describing their daughter who was just a super star and what she went through and her last moments alive go beyond logical thoughts the parents of kayla mueller speaking out at the rnc arguing their daughter might still be alive if the obama administration took a tougher stance to rescue their daughter. kayla mueller was killed in 2015 after being captured and tortured by isis for two years.

joey jones, what do you think about the parents coming out and saying what they said? >> you know, listening to them speak last night is reminded me why i joined the marine corps when i did in 2005. when evil like that exists in our world, the least our president can do is send our warriors to that evil, to send their souls straight back to hell where they came from. that's a pretty easy decision. i'm glad president trump has a pretty long list of victories when it comes to making that tough decision i understand there is political capital involved there that many presidents or candidates wouldn't take. joe biden is a perfect example of that at least president obama was willing to kill bin laden because joe biden wasn't willing to do it. i appreciate president trump the way he acted decisively even if the risk was being a failure or unpopular. brian: joey, the problem is, most of all you know you can't reward hostage-taking because it will end up being more hostages taken. they felt as though they weren't

steve: yesterday, at this time laura was a hurricane a cat 3 as it tore into the coast. now it has been downgraded as a tropical depression moving through arkansas triggers flash floods and perhaps even a tornado. the storm struck louisiana and

texas a 4 initially killing at least six people. jeff flog is live in louisiana with a look at the damage. jeff, as the sun came up yesterday you were able to seat devastation and it was shocking and through the day it just got worse. >> you are dead on right, steve. and, in fact, you know, now we lighten it up but it is shocking. i mean, you look at the kind of devastation here. 150 mile-per-hour winds. that's what it will get you. everywhere you go in this town it's a huge swath of destruction and damage. i mean, you know, jewels pieces of concrete and brick everywhere, glass everywhere the power lines down. i think last count almost 1 million people in three states without power and will be without power for a long time. also no water in places like lake charles. and this isn't where the storm, as i said came ashore. we did get a direct hit here, but it was in a town called

cammeron which is down the bayou down on the coast that is where they got the surge. we didn't get surge here we just got tremendous wind and destruction and rain. they got the surge down there washing homes literally away. the good news if there is any good news and it's not all good but, you know, we have got four dead in louisiana as a result trees falling on home only two other deaths. six total deaths at this point as far as we know. to me, with this kind of destruction we are seeing here, that's almost an amazing number. so, trying to be positive in a town where not too much positive can be said, steve. steve: jeff, thank you very much for joining us on this friday just awful. all right. anxiously. ainsley: thank you, steve. the 2020 republican national convention has officially wrapped up. how did the president's message and that of other featured speakers resonate with the american people? here with the dials partner and president of maslansky and

partners lee carter. hey. lee. >> good to see you this morning. steve: start with a soundbite for the president. yellow line independents. red obviously republicans and blue is democrat. this is the president slamming the democratic agenda saying that their party is extreme. watch the dials. >> at the democrat convention you barely heard a word about their agenda. but that's not because they don't have one, it's because their agenda is the most extreme set of proposals ever put forward by a major party nominee. joe biden may claim he is an ally of the light, but when it comes to his agenda, biden wants to keep us completely in the dark. ainsley: lee? >> you can see the republicans gave this an a minus. independents a b minus and democrats an f. last night's speemps were not quite as popular as the other nights. i think that the president was much more subdued than he has

ordinarily been. we have seen those dials go right off the chart. that said, this message did resonate with both republicans and independents. when you listen to both sides, they are casting the other side of as the one that is eel or the one that is -- if you vote for them the country is going to be over. the question really is which one of those arguments is going to stick? right now it does look like independents are aligning with republicans but it still remains to be seen. ainsley: rudy giuliani was talking about law and order which was a big theme last night and he cleaned up new york years ago and now new york is going in a different directions and we are all concerned about it. here is he talking about democrats enabling all the violence. >> now today my city is in shock. murders, shootings, and violent crime are increasing at percentages unheard of in the past. new yorkers wonder how did we get overwhelmed by crime so quickly and decline so fast? don't let democrats do to

it was repugnant. sorry. brian: i think she could have written that before he spoke. meanwhile harsh words for president trump's rnc address from many in the media. how does that coverage compare to when joe biden took center stage last week? steve: let's bring in our our old buddy from the hill joe concha from my hometown: joe, how are? >> happy friday. steve: indeed. what a scary y. vision those analysts had watching donald trump. when you listen to the media in general talking about joe biden's speech, the week before, quite a contrast. watch this. >> it was all hopeful, upbeat, optimistic. >> it was deeply optimistic speech. hopeful. >> it embraced the light who spoke against the darkness. >> so hopeful. it's so so positive. >> i think it was important for him tonight to make people feel that hope. >> it was ultimately a message

of unity to the country. steve: okay. so, that's their opinion. explain what we just witnessed. >> okay. i know you guys probably saved the tapes on this show so before the rnc began i joined "fox & friends" and i said that dark was going to be the word they would use the most during this week and sure enough, not that that was such a bold prediction. dark or darkness won by secretary trit proportions describing not only the president's speech but speeches throughout the week. you compare that to joe biden. van jones gave away the whole game last week. i like van jones. you can agree or disagree with his opinion. at least is he honest with predictions. he said we were prepared for it being a terrible speech speaking about biden as long as he didn't embarrass himself we were going to come out here and praise it. in other words, it's a predetermined analysis that was given with biden. it was with trump as well.

but this rnc, guys, walls very effective in terms of we heard from very few politicians. instead we heard from regular people telling their inspiring stories while supporting the president. and the rnc production had an energy and a pop to it whether it's the vice president fort mchenry just yesterday or the president at the south lawn last night in front of live audiences outside. it certainly resonated. and you compare that to the dnc, hillary clinton joined from her living room in new york. michelle obama joined from her living room in march that's vineyard. joe biden, the nominee, couldn't even leave delaware to go to wisconsin because apparent liver going to wisconsin if you are a democratic candidate isn't a thing anymore. steve: parking lot. >> he joined as well from delaware. so comparing it to the zoom meetings that we saw last week, i'm telling you, the biden campaign saw no bounce in their polling after their convention. i have never seen that before. usually you get 5, 6 points points, zero points for biden. we have lived a full decade now

for america and the future. he went completely scorched earth on joe biden and the democrats. it was rousing, bare knuckled. he was talking about how the vision of america going forward could not be clearer. you can either go his way or the way that joe biden is suggesting, ainsley, which he said we have made a lot of progress in the last four years and if joe biden is elected poof it's all going to disappear. ainsley: some speakers throughout the week telling stories of real americans. people who have blue collar jobs and have talked about the economy, helping their business they stood on stage together holding hands and it was difficult for them to get through it, you could tell. they were talking about their daughter, their precious daughter kayla was in her 20's and most 20-year-olds are out with heir friends or going to college and having fun, not thinking about saving the world.

and she was a humanitarian and she wanted to help out individuals in other parts of the world that were less fortunate. she went to help doctors without borders in syria and aleppo. she crossed the border with a friend. and her boyfriend. and they were taken by isis. and allegedly abducted by isis and al-baghdadi held her, cepghtd her captive 18 months and repeatedly did the unthinkable things that a father would have ever have to talk about on stage to his daughter every day. and then killed her. they still don't have her body. she died in 2015. and this is a clip of the parents on stage last night. >> the obama administration said it was doing everything it could the trump administration is. let me just say this. kayla should be here. if donald trump had been president when kayla was captured, she would be here today. ainsley: they said they weren't even supposed to have a second

and then you look at joe biden joe biden has a 47 year history of being in washington. do you know when joe biden first went to the senate. he served with people who was born in the 1800s? now, i don't know how you are going to become the leader of the free world if you will not leave delaware. he wouldn't even leave during the convention. you cannot listen to people. you cannot lead the free world by thinking can you put a few movie stars on the stage. that's the difference what i saw in these conventions. that we had the real heroes of america. the average americans that struggle every single day and what they would say regardless of republican or democrat that they found in donald trump that he listened to the forgotten person. that voice that others would not. that's what he promised and that's what he kept for the last four years. ainsley: yeah, like the alice marie johns of the world. she was supposed to spend the rest of her life behind prison and dnc even have a record other than this one mistake that she

into place. ainsley: was a socialist. enough to she is voting for president trump. why do you think this is happening? >> because the president personally touched them. the thing with the president is he puts america first. he doesn't put. and to be able to move those many people. if you spent a few days watching this convention, i know you had every emotion from a cheering to a crying to the empathy to the empowerment of this country. that's just such a great contrast to the democrats i felt emptiness when i left there i knew they hated the president. i knew they want to raise taxes. i know they want to defund the police. but tell me what are you going to do for the average american to make this place better? brian: people should understand what's at stake if the democrats win the white house and most likely going to win the senate. that means they will blow up the filibuster. so whatever joe biden want and bernie sanders wanted that's what the country is going to get nothing will be there to stop them if you can't find a way to win the house. then you look at places like

democrats. they are allowing this to go forward. for individuals to be out there to harass another individual simply because they came to the white house. they are not harassing. they are almost to the point of violence. you don't have to wait for a speech in the white house. can you just go to a restaurant in washington, d.c. and you are going to get intimidated. you are going to get harassed. brian: have you never seen this before? kevin, have you not seen this before? >> i have seen it many times. brian: have you seen it before president trump took the white house? have you seen this level of anger? >> no. and the sadness is what i watched the day after he was inaugurated i remember driving from the hotel what the streets were filled with it started from day one to never give him an opportunity, which is so sad. because the history of this country, regardless of who wins the white house, there is usually a honeymoon. this poor man has never had that moment to govern. but, in you a of that all of thr stopped fighting. think what he was able to achieve. the tax cuts.

putting more people to work. bringing jobs back from overseas. raising everybody up regardless of color of skin or gender. think about how much more we could do if this president had a congress and a senate that would work for them. that's why we could actually retire nancy pelosi if people would go to take the house.com. because it's more than just the presidency. this is the nation and the next century. is it going to be america? are we going to guarantee that tomorrow will be better than today? because what i watched for the four days of the democrats and four days of the republicans it's not hard to make a decision now. and it's not hard to go out and make the case. it doesn't matter if you are republican, independent, or democrat, it's a clear choice here. joe biden is not the same as he was before. barack obama has even said that there is no difference between joe biden and bernie sanders. bernie sanders is a registered socialist so either we are going to go forward in prosperity or go backwards in poverty. we are either going to go forward in freedom or backward

in socialism. it's a very clear choice. steve: well, you would like nancy pelosi to be retired because then you would probably take over but that's a different story for another time. one of the things that has been made clear over the last four nights of the rnc is we're talking about something that nobody talked about last week and that was the lawlessness, the chaos in america's streets. it started with the killing of george floyd. and there were protests. but then, unfortunately, it turned into things like looting and vandalism and all sorts of arson and stuff like that. joe biden who did not mention it last week but has since, he suggested yesterday that the president is actually rooting for more violence. he said, joe did, he is pouring gasoline on the fire. but finally he said twice this week i condemn the violence in any form whether it's looting or whatever it is. why is he talking about it this

could hear somebody with an air horn about a block away through the whole thing. what did everybody think? >> you can see the republicans gave this a b plus, independents a c plus and democrats an f. this isn't bad. it just wasn't quite as exciting and enthusiastic support that we see for donald trump. when we see the enthusiasm for him we canthe chart. it wasn't the case last night. it was a play it safe speech. he read off the prompter he wasn't ad-libbing. it was a fine speech. the big take away folks had is this. donald trump is a president who is going to fight for me and if we do not elect him the american dream could die. i think that message did get across. the question is it going to last? is it going to resonate and is it going to be enough? that remains to be seen. steve: a fine speech very long speech 70 minutes. does that impact people? >> yeah. it absolutely does. it was late and it was long. and it wasn't as exciting as many of his speeches are.

beneficiaries of the terms of the first step act. kim kardashian played a role in her prison release. do you think you're being prop ped up by this campaign? >> no, ainsley. what amazes me about the things that are being said is that another form of prisoner spoke at the dnc last week, and she was not called a prop for choosing to speak there. i don't have the choice to speak where i want to. i'm a person who was very honor ed to be there last night, so i just don't know this double standard. ainsley: i know tim scott people are questioning his blackness, because he's a black republican. how do you respond to that? >> well, both tim scott and i were both born black and we're going to die black, and we are exercising our choice, and our right and our freedom to use our
