i.e. jobs. the winter came, the pandemic. instead of defending nuts on the street, he stored them further winter and saved our economy. >> jesse: wow, the squirrel metaphor. i haven't heard that one yet, greg. dana, i am going to let you respond to the personal attacks and then you can talk about the economic debate. >> dana: well, i wore the sweater on purpose because he said i would never wear it again and i had to prove him wrong. secondly, i just felt like today needed a little lift. the five of us working on labor day, here we are. it's good to be with you all. traditionally, the labor day holiday is the start of the campaign, when everybody in the country really starts to focus. i think people have been highly engaged in the campaign for quite a while but let's just say that that's true. if you're looking for signs of the country is returning to normal after dealing with the pandemic, you might look at the

campaign trail and say, things must be getting better because now all four candidates, the vice presidential candidates in the presidential candidates are out there, making the case for their candidacy, they are attacking one another and giving us a lot to talk about so i think in a way when i thought about that this morning, that is good news. i see that the president has a lot to talk about in terms of saying, remember how the economy was. and what i had to do, i'm telling you, i can get us back to that place. if he can convince enough people that that is true then i think he will be in a pretty strong position going into election day. there is one thing i think both parties need to focus on and it should not be a partisan issue but it's getting this legislation for an additional care is action done for people because a couple things i just want to point out, back in march when people were getting furloughed, if you made $50,000 or less, 40% of those people in america lost their jobs.

if you made $100,000 or more, only 13% of those people lost their jobs. so if you are concerned about that and we all should be, we should be focused on getting those people back, you have to find ways to work in safety, get people back to restaurants, gyms, all the other jobs that were lost to get the economy moving again regardless of the election and partisan politics, focusing on those lower income people is imperative at this point. for the good of our country and for the good of our citizens. >> jesse: yeah, but nancy is holding it up for i think checks to illegal immigrants and prisoner releases. emily compagno, i think one of the biggest gifts biden has given the president thus far is when he answered the rhetorical question about shutdowns. he said yeah, i'd shut it down and people already associated biden will shut downs because he wanted them to last throughout the summer. now they associate him with future shutdowns and the president is really dialing in

on joe though shut down candidate and i think that's going to hurt. >> emily: that's exactly right and taking back on dana's point, that's the kind of reverberation people have, they don't want to go through another shut down, we've already been through them, we know what it's like. it's not a good thing to remind them of it and to say that you would do it again. we know that the economy is the strong strongest topic the president has from a messaging standpoint and it's also what americans consistently rate him higher and have a higher trust in him over biden. if he can remind them that yes, the economy was superstrong but for covid and its rebounding fast, it's hard for biden and harris to argue against it and i think it's important that if people start to see a positive effect in their own lives, that will be huge for him. final point, i will say that when they hit trump and the economy it can sort of have the effect that it seems they are rooting against the economic recovery and so there is a warning for them and that that that can bite them and final

point, did you hear when the vice president reminded today at the maryland power cooperative, he reminded the audience there that senator harris was one of only ten senators to vote against the usmca. the reaction was palpable. it had a tremendous impact so i think we should look more to that moving forward, also. >> jesse: the democrats are doing something very tricky but i'm smarter than i look so i figured out what they're doing. it's very crafty. they don't rate a really well on the economy, they rate much better on handling the pandemic. so they don't talk about their economic policies because they are unpopular and radical. what they say is, in order to fix the economy you have to focus on fixing the pandemic. that's how they get around to talking about their economic plan, a little sleight-of-hand. i picked up on it, i'm not going to let it slide. >> geraldo: first of all, i

agree, we are in the midst of a sharp "v" recovery. a full point lower than it was anticipated and adding another million jobs. with the democrats are doing and it's so obvious to me, they can't attack the economy so what they are doing is conjuring up a story that the president called gis losers and attacked the united states marines because he didn't want to go to a ceremony, allegedly. this is a hit job, i want everyone to understand what's happening here. the president brought up the fact that the marines charged into their machine guns, can you believe the courage of these people? to say that he looked at gis as losers as a pathetic detour, a distraction from the story of

and to have people comply? >> greg: the irony is that the democrats are actually the party of antiscience, the ones that are trying to breed mistrust in any of these products, hydroxychloroquine, how they freaked out because trump was optimistic about that. trump is generally optimistic about the future, that's how he is and that makes him open to criticism. i will disagree with geraldo, though, i am optimistic about the future but i'm more optimistic about the therapeutics, not the vaccines. the things we are seeing, combinations of vitamin d and hydroxy working, the first randomized controlled study came out and had some amazing results so i think that's important. my problem with the vaccine and it's a problem that you face with every vaccine is if there's a small percentage of people who are infected that develop mild symptoms from an illness, does

the risk outweigh, the risks of the vaccine outweigh that? and that is something that will always be a debate no matter what side of the vaccine argument you're on. however, i am pro-vaccine and i think people who are of a certain age and have comorbidities really could use it but my money is on the therapeutics. >> dana: i know that there is a science reporter i listen to at one point and she said if you ask ten of your friends if they would take the vaccine you might be surprised that 5-7 of them would say no and i've been doing this survey and emily, i have to say it has been surprising to me and i think this is a huge public health communications challenge in the middle of a presidential election. >> emily: that's absolutely right and that's why the messaging is so important. especially one of cohesion and to me this is where the politicization flies in the face of common sense. of course we are rushing to find a vaccine.

>> greg: welcome back, everybody. more protest chaos running wild in american cities, multiple arrests made in portland, oregon, over the weekend as riders clash with cops there. protesters descended on outdoor diners, forcing them to flee for their safety. and in new york city, wealthy student from the upper east side of manhattan arrested as they damaged businesses during a rampage in the city last week. president trump blasting the democratic city leaders for failing to stop the violence. he was the president. >> take a look at what's happening in new york and chicago. democrat-run cities, mayors that are running and governors that are running states so badly, mayors running cities so badly, there is no retribution. if somebody is breaking the law there's got to be a form of retribution.

government may be able to figure out some sort of a case because you have our sin, where is that all coming from? but i would have to come from the federal government and i think attorney general barr is starting to look at how to do this because one of the problems is, the state prosecutors or county prosecutors are not doing anything. the president talks about retribution, one of the problems is the officers are trying to do their jobs, business owners are trying to do their jobs, customers are trying to have a meal and nobody is enforcing the law to protect, to enforce the laws that are actually on the books. you don't need additional laws. you just need to enforce the laws that are on the books. somebody needs to get a handle on it. >> geraldo: i agree with that. in rochester you have a black mayor, a black police chief, the attorney general of new york is a black woman, how does it become racial when there is

i leave my apartment, 7% of the time i get mugged. mostly safe neighborhood. come on. >> geraldo: we get it, we get it. emily, i want very briefly to ask you, how do we fix this? what we do? to get over this, where do we go? >> emily: there is an interrelated chain that requires showing up at every step of the way. arrests mean nothing without prosecution, prosecutions mean nothing without judicial discretion and actual deterrent consequences for a local leadership needs to step up with messaging that supports law enforcement and also supports law and order. that video in pittsburgh that was so hard to watch some of the despicable agitators harassing that elderly couple while eating and couldn't defend themselves, there were zero arrests that weekend. that's a local leadership failing to do the job of supporting law enforcement so every step of the way is where
