i was in the bush administration bob woodward wrote 5 books. on one you would not cooperate. turned out bad. next one cooperate and it turned out bad. you tried to figure out a way to handle. it the first woodard book got a lot of negative press for president bush. that was all anonymous sources. so this time why not have the president himself talk to bob woodward. here's the thing. the fact he does it on tape and you hear the president saying that, that will be used a lot by his opponents. if you love president trump you will have a charitable view of what was said on this tape. of course he was trying to do that. the biden people at the democratic national convention their mainline of attack on the coronavirus was it didn't have to be this bad. can you imagine they will take that line and marry it with this audio from the woodard book.

third point, what is their best defense? it's somebody they had an on and off again relationship with dr. fauci. dr. fauci said from the beginning that the president was listening to him even when the white house tried in a couple of different ways to distance dr. fauci. he has incredible credibility with the american people. the first thing today when this came out dr. fauci is on our air and says, no, that's not my recollection. that's not how i saw it. you have the president trying to explain it. for this particular leak out of the woodard book they are handling it the best they can. they have to know that the biden team will use this and marry it with the line of attack they used in the convention. sorry i took so long. >> no, you were insightful. jesse, i want to pick on this

from the woodruff book. -- woodard book. the president was told in late january this was a serious threat to the homeland and people could die. if that's the case, should he have acted decisively in february to shut things down and tell people to wear masks and wash their hands? would that have saved thousands of lives? >> dr. fauci and birx told him to shut it down this march and within 24 hours he shut it down. different presidents prepare the country differently for crisis. the bush administration had warnings there would be a huge financial crisis. they were mature about it and didn't create a run on the banks where people with drew savings into cash. jfk panics the country during the nuclear standoff with the soviets and had kids hiding under desks in the classroom.
