the 9/11 museum and memorial held back, they were not reading the names live but a taped version of that and they said we think it is that special and important and meaningful, to read each and every name, speakers will be gathering behind me to read those names, mike pence will be attending the 9/11 museum but only speaking here at a podium behind me for the tunnels for towers event. it was a little different but i tell you, the families affected, no less special or meaningful. the men and women joining the military today were not even

born the day the towers fell. we are already a generation away but men and women stepping up to do their part. the first responders and police officers, firefighters and men and women on the planes and people who thought they were going to work and how it changed the nation. always honored to be part of what "fox and friends" does but certainly on 9/11 we look forward to hearing the reading of the names and listen to the vice president, putting politics aside for one day and just him during. carley: tunnels for sarah stepped up this year after it was said they would have the live name reading. that should you do in life ceremony. why is it so important for these traditions to continue when we're in the middle of a pandemic and people are concerned about social distancing, why is it so important for that to happen live today?

>> ashley is live with more. >> reporter: the ninth straight day of demonstrations as he celebrates his life. prude was killed in police custody in march but wasn't brought to light until september. rochester police department brief city council for the first time as chief singletary announced his retirement. he declared one of the gatherings and why. >> rocks and bottles start to be thrown at police officers and an assignment going on to do such. >> reporter: he said canines, their presence was triggering.

own community being harassed in a restaurant and this is affecting suburban voters, swing voters in a very negative way. todd: nationwide unrest started after the death of george floyd in may and the minneapolis police officers involved in that case will appear together in court for the first time. dj alexander king, derek chauvin are charged in his death. a judge ways moving the trial outside minneapolis. a judge will decide whether the former offices should be tried separately or as a group. carley: democrats block a coronavirus relief bill that includes assistance run.schools, farmers and the postal service. in a partyline vote 60 votes needed to advance the bill, continuing month-long gridlike. republican leaders say the proposal supported bipartisan ideas, democrats argue it didn't go far enough.

scene of one of the worst days if not the worst day in american history, september 11th, 2001, changed our country forever but also brought out the best in heroes, first responders who ran into the towers even as they were crumbling. christopher costa was one of the first responders at ground 0 and he joins me to share his experience from that day. thank you for being here. in your own words describe that day. >> thank you very much, thank you for having me on during such an important day in american history. that day started as a normal day. we had word one plane had hit the world trade center, my partner and i started to respond. as we were en route, three blocks away, we assisted in the

evacuation of a childcare center as the second plane hit. i was working in plainclothes capacity. we didn't have any gear that would assist in recovery efforts. as we got closer to the towers we saw the incredible response of firefighters, ems personnel and police officers who without looking back, without hesitation stormed the area surrounding the world trade center complex. as we were walking, as one point my partner and i felt a rumble. was two f-18 fighter jets that came flying down the hudson

river and banked around the lower end of manhattan. by that time i looked at my partner and we knew this was by no means any type of accident. shortly thereafter, the towers actually sell, almost imploded which was kind of shocking as everybody started to run in a different direction thinking the towers would topple over. the first thing we thought is all these first responders inside that building, the world trade center had housed, was completely overwhelming. we found ourselves around what was to be called the bucket brigade. the bucket brigade located 5 gallons homes. first it started with just bare

hands, everybody just rushed with for pile of debris, dust everywhere and pieces of paper flying in a whirlwind. when we located the buckets we stood on top of the rumble, streamed in seeking survivors. load up the buckets to try to find people. todd: it is an unreal story, thank you for sharing it with us on this special day, so important to hear stories like that so we never forget the horrific nature of that day but also the amazing acts from people like you. we will be right back.

officer, working in air defense exercise that day. i saw the plane hit the north tower, my thoughts with my younger brother, i called him come our final conversation, he told me the tragic drama that unfolded before his eyes of men and women on windows making a terrible decision whether to jump or die. told him to go home. i won't believe what i am seeing. i found out that he evacuated his office on the 80 fourth floor tower and got out,

remained to help the injured, firefighters and police were there. tower 2 was the second to be hit, first to collapse. todd: looking at pictures of him, it is clear he loves life, a great smile. were you surprised to hear about his heroism, that he stayed, where you surprised to hear that? >> i wasn't. i would much rather he had gotten home but knowing the type of guy he is he opted to stay behind. when you look at what life is about it is about helping others. there is no better way to go. jillian: usurping our great nation are a hero as well. thank you so much for your service and your brother's

carley: appropriately so. president trump and joe biden will take a break from the campaign derail today to remember the lives lost on 9/11 visiting shanksville, pennsylvania to honor the heroes of flight 93. todd: joining us now retired marine corps bomb technician joey jones. always a pleasure to have you. how vital are visits bike the vice president biden and president trump are doing on d.a.s like today? how important are they in this divisive i'm in our country? >> well, good morning. yeah, you are absolutely right. you know, it's not so much that our country is divided is that we are playing this game of team politics. you are either on this team or that team. perhaps 9/11, 2001, was the last time we were on the same team in our haters and minds. i don't think that two candidates coming together, even for this solemn reason is going to bring the country together but maybe it will remind us that we are on the same team. we have the same shared history and same shared goals. we may have differences on how we want to get there you know, the unfortunate part is politics is an industry.

there is money to be made by dividing people and everyone from politicians to consultants to everyone in the game contribute to that and the so hopefully today is the day we hit the pause button on that remember we are people and trying to get through this together. carley: tell us a little bit about your story. i know have you told us about it on air before it. is important to say it again. i know 9/11 greatly affected you and your life's path. >> 2001 i was in a weight room my sophomore year of high school. i was way too scooney for the position in football i wanted to play. i was in the weight room every morning. by the time i made it to my first class it was evident we were at war. i don't think i truly understood the gravity of it as a 16-year-old at the time. until later 2004 when i graduated high school i realized there was no way my country was going to go to war to defend itself and i wouldn't be a part of it. that's what americans do. we rise to the occasion. we sit around and whine and wish

things were better. do our west to make things better. to say for me as a 17-year-old join the marine corps and keep our country safe. that's what that flag the standards for. everything today stands for no matter what could divide us it won't. we will get together and make this country a better place. for mere it was going to war and making a safer place. i feel connected this day certainly as not as much as those who had family members in new york. even as a 16-year-old it changes the that je'kel tri of of my life now. i'm glad our country game together again and hope it doesn't take something like that to bring us back together. todd: similar heros like yourself had a similar reaction on the days and weeks that followed 9/11. you often hear people say if we could go back to 9/12 how unified our nation was on that day joey, that begs the question in light of what is going on in our society will we ever be that one nation under god indivisible

going forward? >> you know, rather than going back to 9/12. acknowledge we are 9/102001. we are the day before anything could happen. shouldn't need a 9/11 to bring us together. that's where our minds should be. we shouldn't look at the day after strategy strikes but the day before. have the motivation to be together and care for one another and love this country without needing something like that to happen. that's what i'm fighting for every day. i think that's what a lot of people are fighting for. hopefully, that's where we will find ourselves where anything like that ever happens again. carley: absolutely. i think it's sort of a natural reaction though to see what's going on today where people are burning american flags in the streets and there are part-time who, you know, have a significant issue with law enforcement and think about how far we have come from a horrible moment and a horrible tragedy but a moment that united us. weave thank you so much for your
