the role of the living first responder, the first responders defined by getting there first. they get their first so you don't have to and when they get there, they never know what they are going to get whether it's a terror attack or a bank robbery, or a domestic of use called. they could end up dead, they can end up heroes, and a vilified by mistake. in the short time, it saddens me that we have gone 19 years from reverence and respect to demonization and maybe that's just what happens with time. but we said that we would not forget but we have. if we something really important and it's tragic. >> dana: jesse, i have always thought about the passengers on the flight is something that so american and not only taking the fight to the enemy and come before they rushed they took a

vote. they gave everybody a chance to have their say. and then they called loved ones before they try to rush and you know, their intentions were try to basically get the hostage takers out of the cockpit and try to land the plane and of course we know that's not what happened. but their intention was trying to live that day and they voted to try to basically take over the plane and had a very little chance of them succeeding. >> jesse: let's roll, i think those were the words and we heard them all the time whether it's in sports, parent telling somebody to get in the car, police on a raid about going in and serving a warrant. those are beautiful words and i think we will always remember them and i try not to think a lot about the pain and the suffering that people felt on 9/11, the people jumping out of the towers to avoid suffocating or to avoid burning up. i try to think about the positive moments and i really thought i saw a positive moment

today with mike pence and joe biden. touching elbows like that's when they were there and i think always about george bush's first pitch at yankee stadium and i watch that twice when i woke up this morning and you think about w and the rubble standing there warning abou everybody what whao come. we think about we did in afghanistan, but years later barack obama and the seals took him out. let's a great moment of unity for the country and i remember being a producer during the iraq war and watching the video of the iraqis topple the statue of saddam hussein. the feeling that we saw when the rope was wrapped around saddam hussein's neck before he was hung. those are very powerful moments a lot of the time and you guys have already mentioned people trying to politicize that you hear about the comparison between covid and the 9/11 death

count. i dismissed that. i don't think about that. i try to cherish the fleeting moments we have is a country the weeks are moments after 9/11 and the month after covid hit hard in late march and early april. the moments when there's a natural disaster in the hurricane in texas when people comes together. those are the few and far between but as you cherish the moments and think about the heroes, i think that is enough for us to sustain that fire within us. that lights the beacon on the hill. >> dana: i'm thinking today about how there's also economic adevastation and new york pulled back from that as well. think about what's happening today and not to make a comparison and i'm not necessarily, but my point is to say that you have seen it several times that the americans pulled together in the crisis

and is that including our entrepreneurs, the small business people, the banks pulling it together to try to keep this thing afloat. >> dagen: i've never seen anything like our country coming together and not just all 50 states, but certainly in new york city i would care that they and what greg said, the feeling of terror, horror, shock, coming flooding back at this time every year much quicker than i would think. in fact, because all the people of the u.s. came together, we came out of a recession in november of that year because we collectively lifted up not just one another and the nation, but the economy as well. i think today, of course, about the families grieve deeply and daily and i think about the survivors. a colleague of ours told us this morning that a close friend of his survived the collapse of the

towers, but lost all of her colleagues. and she came back to new york city today, today, for the first time in 19 years to hear the names being read out loud. i also look around me in the streets of new york city even here and all of fox news and think about just the brave among us, people are capable, regular folks of extraordinary acts of bravery encourage and heroism and true selflessness. i read those stories today. >> dana: juan williams, may be reflect on washington, d.c., and we talked about chick-fil-a new york city and of course there is the plane that hit the pentagon we should take a moment to reflect on d.c. and how it's doing again today. >> juan: 19 years, dana, in some cases that's a long time

and memories can fade but for me as a kid who grew up in new york city, love the city and now lived in washington. the memory does not fade and in fact i feel very real to me on this 19th year and you can't separate it in my mind from the fact that we are going through very difficult waters right now in america and terms of the pandemic. in terms of the economic upheaval and tried to come to terms with the racial tensions in the society. so i think -- we are very vulnerable right now and i think the memory of that tragedy today is just searing and it feels real and it's very real at this moment, very close. you talk about washington, and that was so scary, you know, where are your kids in that moment, cell phones went down and are the kids okay and can you get them from school? all that, your spouse, your friends, and you just feel like what is going on? are we goin okay?

the state attack, the capital is next, more planes are coming in the bravery that we learned about in terms of its is pretty amazing. i too was touched by the attack of so many politicians today getting out and going to those places. i was surprised that the president didn't go to his hometown, the lifelong new yorker, didn't go there today and i was just surprised. >> dana: i think it's a good place to be as well and here's the thing, we are okay and we will be okay. we have shown we can do it over and over again. up next, the latest on the race to the white house. ♪ ♪

critical. but it's tough for joe because the opponent is now nominated twice for a nobel peace prize. first for israel uae, and serbia, and what's next? trump is handing out peace plans like pancakes at a firehouse breakfast. who knew? manufacturing jobs. the trump administration prepandemic -- juan i have it right here from the brain room. if you want to do a question mark >> juan: i had it right here from fact-check.org. >> jesse: ready, january to march 2020, plus 200,000 manufacturing jobs. i don't know about that, but these are statistics from the bureau of labor. >> juan: jessie, jessie, you're mistaking is that there were also hemorrhaging the manufacturing jobs and the total, the total as i said 270,000 jobs, manufacturing jobs lost since trump. let's not bore the audience. >> jesse: tell me what trump, i'm fired up, you're talking about the facts. all right. i see the manufacturing jobs were lost after the pandemic, but i said prepandemic they added 400,000, okay?

if you go back and look at the factories lost as by then champion the china trade deal, 63,000 less american factories since he champions of that. you know how many manufacturing jobs we have lost since biden backed nafta? 4.8 million manufacturing jobs since biden backed nafta out. under obama and biden, the u.s. offshore to 1.3 million manufacturing jobs. we can go toe-to-toe on manufacturing and factory all day, i'm not here to talk about that. he was right when he said that the usmca is better than nafta. nafta, the textile industry got shredded it, though low automobile manufacturing jobs wiped out. the supply chains scrambled and trump came in and re-condensed the supply chain here in america and more high-end industrial jobs here now.

because of the usmca, electronics, heavy machinery come up consolidated here in the united states. good of joe to acknowledge that. >> juan: okay, so, part of the appeal i guess from the president to the manufacturing workers in the midwest to say gdp has gone off but he promised the gdp 4-6% and never come close and i think it's about two and a half and what obama did at the end. what do you say to that? how does he appeal to the workers and say give me another four years if the past four years didn't deliver on the promise? >> dagen: american workers aren't paying attention to the gdb as much as i'm a numbers nerd, they care about money in their pockets and the safety and security and that's why joe biden is directly lifting all of those messages from donald trump. people care about the fact that wages for the lowest skill workers before the pandemic, rather than the fastest pace in

20 years, rank-and-file workers making more money in the wages going up faster than their bosses closing the income and the inequality gap something that didn't happen under obama. i just want to know, the democrats literally because orange man bad, trump bad, everything he was saying even one year ago, they would do the exact opposite. illegal immigration, cracked down on it at the democrats said we had need to have government health care for all of them. now why all of us on it and strolled on and saying, yeah, usmca is better than nafta. why is -- at this of "the wall street journal" front page and biden's new china policy looks a lot like trump's. that's because the swing voters and the people who have jobs in this country were not to gobbling up the garbage that the biden campaign that has been dished out last several months. >> juan: dana, part of the the

presidents economic pitch to voters coming back to that tax cuts, but at the moment and hasn't had much impact for people who are, you know, struggling with the facts, the economic effects of the pandemic in terms of the lost wages, economic turmoil, food lines as we have shown here on "the fiv "the five." how does he say you know what the tax cut was good. >> dana: i don't have the fact-check.org or the brain room information about the tax cut with me, but i do know that a lot of people say that the middle class benefited but it's interesting that schumer and pelosi want to alleviate taxes on the rich. that's interesting conundrum. u.s. ca, there's a ticket splitting here between biden and kamala harris because she actually voted against usmca and so they're not on the same page on that which is fine. but it makes people wonder if

you have biden as the president and she's the vice presidents, and her policies -- with a completely different than his? something to keep in mind. the last point, isn't it great to have a feeling that there's a campaign? they're doing interviews, out on the road. i feel like we should all be pretty happy on this friday that we are 53 days away from the campaign and it finally feels like it. >> juan: all right. i had on "the five," the biden campaign causing controversy after refusing to see if there candidate uses a teleprompter to answer some questions from reporters. that's next for you on "the five." ♪

something and push it back. at one point in the interview he says to bret baier i will send you the fact-check. okay, that's something we could do on the panel show but if you're the press secretary you are the fact-check. that's your job. you don't have to send the interviewer a fact-check. >> jesse: juan williams, joe using teleprompter become a bigger story because the flak went on fox and made a huge bust over? >> juan: i think it's a bigger story on the conservative side but what we really -- what's really going on is the trump campaign and being anxious about the upcoming debate. i think that they have thought biden would come across as the caricature of the doddering old man, demented like they have been pushing for so long and instead of what they saw the convention was a very good speech performance by joe biden. >> greg: have you seen the

i think that if we want to put pressure on anybody to make a difference, that is where the pressure should be. the governor's office. >> dagen: pointing out there's a "wall street journal" that came out that government who overrode the mayor on the shutdown and cause the problems in the city, the governor. it didn't fall on the mayor. >> jesse: juan says i was boring everybody with facts earlier in the show so how about colorful antidotes? backing me up yesterday, leaving fox and i saw somebody on fox. if somebody on the building. i have been here for 20 years working o for the company but there is a homeless woman who set up an encampment across the street from fox. you guys who am talking about, she lives across their period of times square smells like a men's
