american philosophy, the american culture and american history. and then you address each one how each are being undermine and eviscerated as a matter of fact. what you see going on in this country today what you've seen going on, the looting, arson black lives matter, and antifa, the democrat party pretty much embracing this and embracing bernie sanders agenda. immediate that is utterly corrupt gives voice to this and is really in so many respects propaganda machine. you kind of saw this coming, didn't you isn't that the point of the book? >> yeah it really is, and when i wrote the book back in december, january, i figured that it would be relevant before election and covid happened i thought irrelevant before the election and last eight weeks have happened the break down and mental break down of the country and i realize how relevant the book was and fact is what we've seen over last several weeks is full flowering of ideology of this integrationism for

university through major cultural institutions, for years and just sort of broke out into the open over the last couple of months. that really two conflicting visions been at war one is vision of america and american history is a story of america's beautiful and wonderful internally true founding ideal and america failing stumbling fumbling and succeeding and america that is founded on basic notions in the declaration of independence to bring about unprecedented prosperity and freedom for not just millions of people in america but billions of people over time and around the world. and american philosophy that is beautiful in its essence all about freedom and culture that values rights and in which all of our debates take place on this moral basis that rights preexist government that was the original vision of america. that is what i call the juneist vision of america that holds us together and any country that holds together has to share a history they have to share a culture and they have to share a philosophy and then there's a second strain this is what is running through our politics right now. a strain i call integrationism

the idea that america has never any tide that binds us and up with group with another over the head and american philosophy is a pasteboard mask and really what sses covering up for is hierarchy of power brutal dynamic and culture of rights is a i lean a rights ought to be thrown out in favor of an orthodoxy that rules about and tells you how you ought to think and comes from fruition to 1619 project. i really didn't think it would burst like a overriped cantaloupe but that's exactly what's happened. mark: why do you think it has burst into the open so suddenly. is it organizations kind of poised to leap should the occasion arise, or what do you think the reason is for that? >> i think a lot of it does have to do with the fact that president trump exists. that i think that he provides point of commonality in which no matter how radically left you go you find alleys in the old -- fumbling apart liberal school who will side with you just to

get rid of trump. i think what the real story of what's happening here, is not even right versus left but radical left versus everybody else and you see this in the harper weekly letter published d with 153 essential left academic say you're going too far and cancel curlture is really ugly you're seeing battle that's breaking out inside the democratic party between nancy pelosi who is now quote unquote moderate who is radically left and people like omar and you're seeing who is winning that battle. and that movement has been moving along for quite a while there was a kind of old idea i think from the -- from the quote unquote moderate levels that passion and the ideologically top down stuff you were seeing on college campuses microaggression cancel culture all of that could go away once leftist reach hall of tower turns out they were there and when they entered halls of power they decide to just uproot all of the systems and and take it over this is the french revolution in real time without the actual physical deity. >> you say that the president sort of has a focus the

attention of the radical left and so many of these movements, and he so deeply hated you know i think he's so deeply hated he was deeply hated the moment he announce he was going to run for president before he did a single thing. and then he defeats hillary clinton. aren't they furious because they thought they were going to get a third term of obama well on their way to this counterrevolution isn't that in part while since day one they've sought to undermine candidacy. you've got all of the russia collusion stuff. you have, you have a failed impeachment effort you have criminal investigations they come up empty, empty, empty, empty, and they're still at it because he stands in their way. no? >> that's exactly right. what people on the left fail to recognize the reason so many people on right support trump isn't because of that but they see trump as literally only dam that is holding back the encroaching tide. and i think that, you know, they understand that too actually on a deeper level.

i think that the kind of obama left never going to lose again there was a new coalition forged a new coalition of dispossess to mobilize against america systems. of oppression, and then trump kind of steps in and he beats hillary clinton who was designated the successor and suddenly they realize that wait a minute, maybe we don't have the overwhelming majority we thought we did. and they've reacted with viciousness they've reacted with -- with cruelty. with malice and the fact that president trump campaign on the basic idea of make america again encounter from left was not that president trump wasn't capable of making america great again or anything. they're counter was america was never great that was divide in essence happening back in 2016 just that nobody really recognized i think on the traditionally liberal left recognized that when they said, america was never great that was going to become the mainstream slogan of the democratic party that america was never great not only that but america doesn't have capacity to be great because america systems are inherently shot through with evil and america wasn't found in

and federalism and so forth. but into firewalls have been breached by the courts and been breached by the academia this force out there. this statism, do we the people who love this country revere its founding embrace it do we need toll come up with new ways to battle these enemy i suppose we do don't we? >> i don't think there's any question about it. i think that great flaw of the political right is that we see that culture and we focus in on the politics. so the right is actually very good at winning elections with several republican president ncial the lifetime dominated congress from 1994 to 2006 and again from 2010 to 2018. and it didn't matter. left continued to shift the very nature of the deck. it is not about winning elections. it is about winning the culture and right did not engage in education system and sort of let it go. we didn't engage in culture making and hollywood. we just kind of let it go. we set up alternative media structures outside the mainstream media that's been the

most successful part of what the right has done. but now that the left is trying in fashion to shut down all possibility of social media even districting those messages. so the right has to understand that this is indeed more a culture war than it is a political war. it is why of the three elements i talk about philosophy history and culture i think most important is a sense that we share a cultural i don't mean we watch same football game or patronize same store but we have to have the same moral conversation about rightsening that's where americans still be heard. that i think even the movements from left has been most wildly successful couched many times dishonestly in terms of rights but i think the political right in the country does have a monopoly on vision of what rights constitute. ting that's a great vision and appealing one. whnch we come back ben shapiro i want to the ask you this, if you people embrace liberty is a puzzle that humanity has faced that liberty also gives the opportunity for evil to exist

how do we deal with this? >> i think one of the things that is happened is that i guess mark you and i we're all lucky we live in first generation of truly good people. we live in a generation of people who have a free floating morality they've come up with just out of the sunlight, and if you plop them down in 18 50 and they were from alabama they, obviously, would have been antislavery everyone qowld have been antislavery. they would have been in favor of gay marriage in 1772 these are people who have a morality that is constructed out of their own heads and so beautiful. they fail to recognize, of course, that every single moral value they hold is indicative of moral systems that came before them that they actually stand on should percent of giants instead they claim to be citizen of the world. and their own moral creators, and not only that they are the saints in their own moral paradigm that means everybody sells sinner or heretic and recognizing you have gifts from people who live in the past living life and came from a culture that is very different

humanity more broadly when man puts on the moon it is achievement of humanity when america participates in slavery historically that is not a cruelty in savagery that is universal across time and space until basically the end of the 18th century. that is -- that is instead unique evil to america. and when people are that dishonest you have to assume they have another agenda which, of course, they do and that is to tear down the system entirely. i mean, row really see this mostly in the how to be antiracist kind of philosophy that you see from robyn deangelo and kennedy their suggestion is race ismg must be redefine race schism no longer. you believe in inferiority based on a group characterize. you are complicit in any system that produces inequality which is a marxist premise because premise is that the true goodness would be a system that produces equal results regardless of personal choice. and any system that does not, produce that is, obviously, not

mark: welcome back i'm here with ben shapiro, and great new book how to destroy america and three easy steps. we're working our way through what's going on today which is covered in a very interintaying embracing way in this book. so ben my question about the democrat party, the democrat party through its history has been more let me put this this way. last proamericanism than anti-americanism. am i right about that? >> historically speaking that's certainly the case and you can see it probably most not even in the civil war period when the democratic party was part of the confederacy that's strong stuff and modern iteration that begins with leaders of the democratic party like woodrow announcing declaration of independence saying you know those were old definitions of liberty. those were old definitions of rights we need new definition of right and liberty things that come from the government things that we can give to you and

anything that stands in the waif that checks and balances, and powers all of that has to go in pursuit of something more glorious and better. all you have to do is give me power we'll give you back something that you'll absolutely love entitlement that's been the movement of the dmrt party overt course of the last century or more. and it is difficult i think to connect all aspects of the democrat party over time, obviously, but i think one thread that runs through at least modern history of the democratic party is desire for more power at the expense of founding principle that is right preexist government, that government was instituted to protect those rights, and that a government deviolate rights is not worthy of being upheld. >> wilson out of closet racist that was well known. >> nation in the white house -- >> resegregated the federal government. and when you look at the black lives matter movement, it is openly anti-semitic support the bds movement part of the mission statement has it not?

>> yag one of the great semantic tricks played right now is the overloading the term black lives matter so they say black lives matter you say okay. and then they say also we have this whole agenda. they say i don't agree with that so saying black lives don't matter that is ridiculous trick. mark: i'm concerned what about i see happening in the country crystallized in the democratic party nancy pelosi speak of the house announced in the democrat primary in minneapolis. running against somebody who specifically challenger and others want her semitism nancy pelosi brings resolution of the floor waters it down even same with omar and persistent anti-semitic statements and anti-american statements too. the democrat party as an institution has not been speaking out against saingt semitism or riots or anything of this sort. you see this as a growing

problem in the democrat party and hence a growing problem in america? >> it is a massive problem inside the democratic party and reason anti-semitism is allowed because it fits overall broader vision of the democrat party at this point that all of america is higher of power and only people qhor victims in america are people who are part of marginalize groups not people who are members of historically marginalize groups and victims of anti-semitism because jews don't count as group because they are too sufficient and advance too well educated they don't count as minority as asians not discriminated against in harvard not allowed in no longer a minority and done ugly trick where they basically say that you're only perceived as victim if you're a member of a group not only historically marginalized less successful than other groups and this leads to the bizarre situation where it you are a member of one of those victim groups, and you

target another member of a historically marginalized group that's not a problem those are people in power and as soon as the intersectionalty olympics begins and people who are perceived as part of the successful in the united states are attack doesn't matter what group identity is they're part of the successful and fair game. mark: you have true bigots and anti-semimites in the democrat party from my perspective you have talib somethings she's said omar there are others. republican party, they rejected david duke. or they vote down steve king. democrat writes letters to the prime minister of israel and threatens the prime minister of israel if they have right to return in some of the sovereign parts of ancient israel. they don't write letters to the palestinians they don't write letters to abbas, hamas and perfectly happy with a campaign on this. whereas republicans wrote a letter to the prime minister endorsing its position.

we seeing a realignment in this country and based in part on the base of the democrat party moving harder and harder to the marxist left which is anti-semitic? >> absolutely. absolutely. real ace linement has happened i think it has been in play since certainly since obama era beyond it is just begin kind of busting into full flowering right now and large part of that is because trump is so overtly proisrael this is driven left to embrace anything that trump dislikes. so the left will now embrace rioting and looting they'll embrace open hatred for israel he's the catalyst for all polarization in the country not through his own fault in cases like but but left despises the man so much. >> how to destroy america in three easy steps get a copy of it. it is important that people read this and understand it and act on it. good luck take care. we'll be right back.
