i'll let you with captain waggoner. >> shortly before 7:00 p.m. tonight two deputies from our transit services bureau were parked adjacent to 101 and east palmer in north compton. that's for the blue line. the suspect approached them from behind as the deputies were facing southbound. the suspect came from the north. walked along the passenger side of the car. he acted like he was going to walk past the car and he made a

left turn directly toward the car and raised the pistol, firing self rounds into the car striking both deputies. the suspect fled on foot northbound from the shooting scene and out of view. the deputies radioed for help. assistance respond and transported the deputies to st. francis medical center where they are being treated. i have 14 homicide detectives on scene. forensic identification specialists from the cripple lab, crime analysts. people from our high-tech task force to canvas and dissect any video that might be recovered. there are members of crimes against police officers section from the l.a. district attorney's office on scene. this is all very fresh for us. i did a 10-minute walk before i
