one of the key moments involved climate change, take a listen. >> i don't support the green new deal. i support the biden -- i support the biden plan that i put forward. the biden plan which is different from what he calls the radical green new deal. todd: how much did he hurt himself with progressives with regard to that answer? >> this was trump's biggest success was putting biden in a corner where he had to choose going to the middle or going towards progressives. a lot of it, biden told progressives he would leave them behind but talks out of both sides of his mouth, statements with bernie sanders to get aoc behind his campaign but in this debate i don't support the green new deal, i don't support black lives matter the trump brought up.

the interesting take aways, and alienated his base, it doesn't get people excited to show up and vote and what does that have on the election? of joe biden's base decided to vote, will that be enough for joe biden when you have base for donald trump. >> a quick follow-up. this comes down to the matters in the end, do you think there are progressives that will sit out this election, look to 2024 instead because of last night's performance by joe biden? >> most people who are progressives hate the president they are going to vote but there are a lot of younger progressives along the lines of socialists and may not show up because they don't see a difference between biden and trump on issues they care about

and are waiting for somebody more radical. i do think in a lot of ways there is a lot of undecided voters who may not show up because they -- the worst presidential debate in history to watch, doesn't give people to show up and make time especially with covid-19 and make the time to vote. >> the question on twitter last night around the time it is over asking if its way them one way or another. and 99% of people, didn't change my mind at all. interesting to see how that plays out in coming days, law and order as a big conversation but let's listen to what the president had to say. >> almost every law enforcement group in the united states, you don't have any law enforcement, you can't say the word law enforcement because if you say those words you lose all your radical left supporters.

they've got you wrapped around your finger to the point you don't want to say anything about law and order. jillian: how did the president do on that messaging? >> one of the stronger points for donald trump because joe biden had to step away from his faith but joe biden, and the rioting going on, the most pointed questions, reaching out to the democratic governors, i didn't call anybody. he has phone numbers for democratic governors. moderates were undecided voters, much election to want to participate. todd: ron meyer, two segments on wednesday morning.

jillian: when it comes to progressive versus onerous, dan ongino said biden did that with his base. >> forget independents, a base election, you need to understand that, trump is an apex predator, the lion king, trump went out and did what trump does, the shark in the ocean and acted like it, lost no one from his base, no one but what did he do to biden? why do you think he brought up the predators remark? why did he bring up the green new deal? why do you think he brought up government run healthcare in the public option? he wanted biden on record saying he doesn't support that stuff. what will that do? that will alienate biden's base, biden lost everything with his base. jillian: biden was working closely with progressives

creating a unity task force with bernie sanders. >> a portland police sergeant punched in the face during a violent protests recovering after being hospitalized, rioters spraying five officers with a chemical outside the police union building, 24 people arrested, some carried makeshift shields and more heavy body armor. portland seeing 120 straight days of unrest. >> michael flynn's attorney accuses the judge to recuse himself after bias during tuesday's hearings, simi valley judge sullivan got into a heated exchange over the judge wanting to proceed with the prosecution. powell admitted she briefed the president but asked him not to pardon the former national security adviser, sullivan had skepticism over flynn's legal team on the doj's efforts to dismiss the case, it is 10 minutes after the hour, despite the coronavirus the economy remains a top issue in 2020. >> greatest economy in the history of our country and it is being built again.

>> an interesting situation to win the nomination of his party he had to move left on taxes, spending, healthcare but his pitch to voters, i am a moderate, that is the corner he has painted for himself in this election and that is trump's opportunity because what the president should be doing is telling voters where you stand, are you with the left of the party who gave you the nomination or the moderate you claim to be. that the issue biden has to answer in these debates, we never got there, we never got in substance to the point where joe biden had to explain where he stands on the economy. that is where voters see the gap between these candidates.

when it comes to wages, jobs, growth and things like manufacturing, trump has the better arguments, biden's track record isn't great, no one looks back at that and says i want to repeat that again. that is why the president's opportunity to say what are you going to do differently because americans don't want to go back to that slow recovery, as a native minnesotan donald trump headed to minnesota. my question is why, the state has gone democratic for most of recent history. what does donald trump say in minnesota that leads him to believe he can flip it this year? >> he sees it is up for grabs. it is interesting, outside the twin cities of minneapolis and st. paul minnesota is trending

appease his progressive base or be the moderate candidate he purports to be. last night he did neither and probably angered both. todd: is it possible for him to do that with a powerful force that is donald trump? whether you like him or not donald trump is a force on that stage. >> unquestionably, trump barely gave him a moment to chat. at times felt like the debate was between trump and wallace himself. don't know how biden is going to get in there. how is he going to go to the negotiating table with china or russia or north korea. they are not going to have a moderator to help, he's got to step up and show he is capable of the job. jillian: a lot of people with that viewpoint, to make sure he is speaking to the public to get his opinions heard. as you know there's been a lot of conversation about years of election integrity, are those

's website says biden believes the green new deal the crucial framework for meeting the climate challenges we face. his plan may not be as aggressive as what alexandria ocasio cortez wants to see but it is a progressive plan, $2 trillion over four years. todd: a lot of people pointing out the contrast online. i saw that posted 9 trillion times. jillian: nominees going head to head on the pandemic response.

those in the middle. this debate actually convinced some people not to even vote which is troubling for both sides. todd: i will turn that into a question for tony. your big take away, the question that follows up, are there progressives that watched the debate and said joe biden is too center for me, don't like either it won't support joe biden so i will sit out to see if the bernie sanders, aoc, people like that get on the ballot? >> that has been the conversation from the beginning that joe biden is and progressive enough and did it again last night, a massive take away from this debate and i argue the people who see these broke last night but the story

of joe biden saying he's not in favor of the green new deal but said he was, not in favor of defunding police, miserable to the progressive base but a lot of other things were joe biden didn't answer questions that you will watch them become big talking points like packing the court. this is another moment where joe biden didn't answer the question about packing the court, adding more supreme court justices, there is no number of supreme court justices in the constitution. let joe biden talk and you have a lot more ammunition you can use against him. one of the other ones the idea of the open and closed society regarding coronavirus was a clear delineation between the two and business owners in ohio, pennsylvania and florida don't want a president who will shut them down again and make them unable to support their families.
