president trump: i came here, wasn't feeling so well. we are working hard to get me back. i have to be back because we have to make america great again. we have done an awfully good job of that. but we still have steps to go and we have to finish that job. i think i will be back soon. reporter: the latest update reads in part quote president trump continues to do well having made substantial progress since his diagnosis. he completed his second dose of remdesivir without complications. he has an oxygen level between 96 and 98 percent all day. despite dr. conley's press conference saturday, there are indications the president's battle is more dire than

with cough, fever, nasal congestion and fatigue. his cough is said to be improving and he has been fever free for 24 hours. the doctors updated his condition this morning. >> the president has been fever-free for over 24 hours. he's doing so well. but with the known course of the illness. day 7-10 we get concerned about the inflammatory phase, phase two. given we provided advance therapies early in the course. it's hard to tell where he is on that course. so every day we are evaluating. he's in exceptionlely good spirits. as we were completing our multidisciplinary rounds, he said i feel like i can walk out of here today. jesse: the president is take a five-day course of remdesivir

and an experimental cocktail of regeneron. as welling famotidine, and aspirin. no hard date has been set for when the president will leave walter reed medical center. but the race is on to trace trump's recent contact as members of his inner circle have also been infected including campaign manager bill stepien, hope hicks, and most recently chris christie who has checked into the hospital as an important precautionary measure. why is continue is at the walter reed medical center. >> the campaign trail has come to president trump here at walter reed. there are dozen and dozens of his supporters lining the street right outside walter reed where

the president has been for 24 hours, a little over 24 hours. they are waving flags, honking horns. and their message is clear. they are trying to get president trump the support he needs to fight through the coronavirus. that video that president trump recorded inside walter reed that was posted about an hour ago was welcome news for every american because it shows he at least sounded healthy. it was important because it came at the ends of a very confusing day. it started with the president's doctors delivering that press conference saying that he was doing very well. but right after that press conference was over a senior administration official reported to be chief of staff mark meadows, he said there were some very troubling signs yesterday when president trump was first brought to walter reed. he made it sounds like it was

where they have the resources available and gave him the iv medications they have been giving him. this infection runs in phases. it starts out where the viral load builds in your body and your immune response kicks in. a lot of the damage down the road is related to the inflammatory in the body. but if you can use these drugs like the monoclonal remdesivir and remdesivir, you can fight the inflammatory. jesse: the regeneron, the cocktail. it looks like it was very successful over in england. it was used on mice. and it has shown i think to basically tamp down by 50% the

intervened very quickly. what are your thoughts on how the treatment is going so far. >> i like how he's improving it's disturbing to hear he had problems friday, but it's very encouraging on the other hand. i can't make a strong clinical observation in the video. but he's speaking slowly, doesn't seem to be having shortness of breath. we heard from dr. conley that he isn't on ox gin and had normal oxygen levels. he looked like someone that is ill, but he looked like he was quite stable from the video. and was clearly comfortable when he was speaking. i thought that was encouraging. jesse: it was night and day in my personal opinion between the video he put out yesterday where he was standing in the white house and the video he put out

there. there was a lot of controversy today as to whether he was administered oxygen at the white house friday. tell us your thoughts about oxygen in this situation. >> oxygen is given pretty early in this situation just for comfort. if you are at the white house and you feel short of breath they will give you oxygen. but what's interesting is the saturation from what we are hearing from walter reed this morning is normal. what i'm looking at, the issue of the fact that this virus can cause inflammation in the lungs. right now that doesn't seem to be occurring. we can't tell for sure. you would have to have a ct scan to know that for sure. if this oxygen saturation is that good and he's speaking comfortably, it's a good sign he doesn't have major lung be

issues right now. jesse: he doesn't have a fever. he's been walking around. we talked to a few people who spoke to him on the phone and he sounds like he wants to storm back on to the campaign trail. he seems like he might escape in scrubs from this hospital and get out there to a rally. how long do you think they can keep him at the hospital if he's feeling better? >> i think they will have to keep him until they finish the remdesivir. which is five days. but the point you are making is so true. even in a weakened condition president trump is stronger than a lot of other people. my experience of 30 years of taking care of patients, when they get rambunctious and say get me out of here, that's a good sign they are on the road to recovery. jesse: thank you very much for your expertise.

the sympathy for the president. this humanizes him, and it's an opportunity for a reset on covid. this is a chance for the white house to counter one of the biden campaign's main talking points to that the president hasn't been transparent when it comes to the virus. this is a chance to be a model of transparency and openness about his covid diagnosis and how this happened. the president was great in the video today. but there was a controversy over whether and when he had oxygen. why is there a controversy about when he had oxygen. the doctor when he gave miss briefing, he said he's not on it today. twice. there is nothing wrong with being on oxygen when you have covid.

you had the white house chief of staff saying things were more serious than the doctor was saying. jesse: the more the media puts trump 6 feet under, he can come back from this and look like the strongest guy alive and create a comeback narrative that no one could have scripted before. we hope that's the case. we hope he recovers. the fate of this presidency is how he handles the next week, week and a half. i am sure he's got best doctors in the world making sure he can do that safely. thank you for your insight. we appreciate it. the media and the left quick to launch attacks on president trump after he tests positive.
