days. welcome to brand-new hour of special edition of america's newsroom. i'm grace gallagher, conflicting messages out of the white house yesterday when chief of staff mark meadows said the president's condition had declined following his coronavirus diagnosis. kristin fisher live outside walter reed medical center with more. good morning, kristin. kristin: hey, trace, we definitely got more answers today than we did yesterday. overall president trump is doing well according to his doctors but we also learned today about 2 episodes of transient dropped in oxygen saturation. the first time it happened was on friday morning and coincided with high fever and doctors worried of possible progression of the virus and put him on supplemental oxygen at the white house for about an hour and the second time was yesterday here at walter reed. >> yeah, yesterday there was another episode where it dropped

thursday. i'm told more events can be added to the schedule and i'm -- >> let's bring in john decker and white house correspondent. john, a double threat. the interesting here, i'm not sure if you heard, john, mark meredith there talking about this. chuck schumer comes out and says this is a cover-up and we now know that 8 people that were at the rose garden ceremony for the nomination of amy coney barrett have now tested positive for coronavirus including two senators, chuck schumer says the whole thing is being covered up and illan omar said, gop senators have had contact with staff and other senators. the senate should quarantine without hesitation, democratic senators should not be accompliced to dangerous reckless behavior, #rosegarden

massacre which trended on twitter, your thoughts on that, john. john: well, there's no indication of any type of cover-up that senate minority leader chuck schumer was alluding to. and there's no indication at the same time that the type of contact tracing associated with that event that took place here last saturday for the nomination of judge barrett. that's the kind of thing that new jersey doing tracing fundraising thursday afternoon and the reason being is obvious. you want to make certain that everybody that took part in that fundraising event is safe and have not contracted covid-19. >> you mentioned the cdc, john, the washington post talked about this and contact tracing and i'm quoting here, the center for
10:07 am
disease control and prevention had contact-tracing team ready to go according to multiple services but had not asked to mobilize even though sean conley said that his team was working with the agency. >> so many people that were watching last saturday, there were dozens of people that were at the white house for the nomination of judge barrett to the supreme court. we've seen the video, we've seen the pictures, i was at this event. most individuals invite today this event were not wearing face coverings or masks. we know that several people that attended the event have contracted coronavirus and you want to make certain that everybody that attended that event at the white house in the rose garden last saturday is safe, that they have not contracted covid-19, that's why contact tracing is so necessary
10:08 am
here. >> you were at the event so was attorney general bill barr and he's been criticized for saying that he will not quarantine, you know, you have a long-time attorney of doj andrew wiseman, not clearly a bill barr fan, attorney general's choice to not quarantine is so fitting, even now encouragable as we said not a fan of the attorney general but what do you make of his case? >> well, that's obviously a political statement more than anything else. the important thing is that those who can do so should get tested. i've been tested 3 times, trace, since last saturday. that could essential -- i would most likely guess it's also the case with the attorney general. he gets tested on a regular basis as well. and if he over the course of the past week has tested negative,
10:09 am
honestly i'm not a medical official by any stretch of the imagination but over the course, et cetera, if you are testing after 7 consecutive days i think you are in the clear and i don't see any need for the attorney general to quarantine in any way. >> i think that's a fair assessment, but do you wonder, john, a couple of days, 3 days after the president tested positive for coronavirus, we heard from the president last night and we have been hearing mark meadows on and off, conflicting statements there, reheard from rudy giuliani on "fox & friends", are you wondering why we haven't heard more from the white house concerning all of these matters in the past couple of days? john: well, in terms of the medical condition of the president, we've had two briefings over the course of the past 2 days, mark meadows, the white house chief of staff has done a briefing with a pool that was gathered for those events, but to your point, you also want
10:10 am
to get some sort of briefing in terms of making certain that every aspect of our government is operating as efficiently as it should be given the fact that the president right now is undergoing medical treatment and in addition to that as has been pointed out, you want to make sure that all of the information that you're conveying to the public is transparent and that's an important thing when not only the american public is looking at this but also allies and, in fact, adversaries from around the world. >> fox news correspondent john decker, good insight, thank you for joining us. >> thank you, trace, have a good day. >> big show of support for president trump as he battles covid-19, now that he's off of campaign trail crowds are rallying to him outside of walter reed hospital and across the country. supporters like the ones you see in top-right in colorado, hundreds gathering in trump tower in new york city this morning to wish the president a speedy recovery.

plan for today to have him eat and drink be up out of bed and mobile and if he continues to feel and looks like today we hope to plan discharge as early as tomorrow. the reason i play that sound bite, dr. ahmed, both the cdc and the world health organization, i have it right here that dexamethasone is only to be used in most seriously-ill patients. it's steroid and these are patients not mechanically ventilated but in most serious cases. why is in your estimation is the president getting dexamethasone if he's doing so well? doctor: so let's bear in mind that these brilliant physicians that are treating not only a patient but the president of the united states. so the stakes are much higher. the treatment is likely to be more interventional and more aggressive than we had equivalent patient that was a private citizens. the drops in oxygen that the president's physician talked to
10:18 am
us about are remarkable to me. we live in the era that the media is demanding minute by minute updates. the use of dexamethasone that you heard doctor speak about, the founder of biocontainment unit of ebola and brilliant pulmonologist. they first eliminated the virus with the president's body from regeneron and remdesivir. the president's own immune system will be responding and the dexamethasone is used to coral that. there's a benefit toward immune system but benefit to in training it and helping not become overly active. i do not think and i listened to the president's press conference, sorry the press conference about the president's health very closely. this does not represent deterioration.
10:19 am
does this not in any way lead me to believe that the president will have a more difficult cause. i know exactly the language that you're referring from the w.h.o. and cdc, it's based on the paper published in july this year which shows significant 28-day survival benefit with the use of dexamethasone once we know a patient is infected and may have had an oxygen requirement. in the study the patients that were looked at more than 6400 patients were enrolled in this study, they were much more severely in need of oxygen. don't forget we are all oxygen dependent and we need 21% oxygen. the president needed tinny amounts of oxygen within normal range does not worry me at all and we have to remember that the president is not only a patient, he is a national leader. one last thing, trace, very important. the press that's hounding the

released as early as tomorrow? doctor: not in the least. he can be very closely monitored with very high-level of expertise in the white house while he works. also he's clearly tolerated all of the treatments, remember, both the treatment he's received with regeneron is compassionate use, that's being watched with intense scrutiny though it would have been 8 dose of 1 gram of iv and remdesivir, we have experienced with it over this year in the united states is also well understood, so it doesn't surprise me in the least and also reflects the priority that doctors have for our president is to restore him to the complete health and functional status as quickly and as safely as possible. they will be able to see him in the white house while he conducts his duty. and i'd like to say, we very much are supporting all americans who are very hopeful for the president. there is scientific and medical
