saying they shouldn't be because they are pro-life, the majority of americans are going to look, it is a horrible thing, pence is a devout christian and kamala harris has a questionable record when it comes to going after people of faith, specifically catholics because of their strong positions on abortion, people fight against that. jillian: since the death of george lloyd there's been a lot of conversation about police reform, where both parties and candidates stand on this. let's listen to what they have to say. >> we got to re-examine will be or do with american taxpayer dollars, creating healthy and safe communities.

look at the economy, look at where we were, we will be able to rebound and get back on track. >> that is what pence needs to highlight. we don't have enough people to fill available jobs, record low unemployment for hispanic americans, black americans, records were being broken for women in the workplace, the trump administration has a lot to brag about and a lot of the economic slump is due to unending lockdowns in states run by democrat mayors so pence needs to highlight that as well. carley: a new poll so strong voter enthusiasm for the 2020 election ahead of levels from 2012-2016. if you look at this, and 8 million votes have been cast compared to the 75 million at this time in 2016, on one hand it shows people are excited to

♪ carley: everyone is talking about the vice presidential showdown now just hours away. so what can we expect from senator kamala harris and vice president mike pence. jillian: trump campaign senior adviser steve cortes very familiar with debate prep and he joins us now. good to see you. i don't think anyone has said he isn't ready for this but what has he been doing to prep? what can you tell us? >> right. obviously i'm not at liberty to divulge any of the tactics that he might be deploying. jillian: oh, come on, you can. >> just between us? is it just between us? listen, of course he is very well prepared for this debate. by the way the main preparation of course is being vice president of a united states. being a governor and legislator

on capitol hill. his life has been largely preparation for this. this will be a fascinating debate and i say this even if i can for a moment take off my campaign hat just as an american as somebody who is interested in policy. you are going to have in mike pence from for instance his ledges layive career he earned 99% american union score out of 100. meaning he is one of the most conservative members of congress when he was on the hill. on the other hand, kamala harris, according to gov track which is an independent organization that does statistical modeling of legislators according to them 2019 she was the most liberal member of the united states senate. she was to the left of elizabeth warren and even bernie sanders. so you have a stark contrast here. you have a wide catch ideologically between these two folks and i think that will make for a compelling policy debate and hopefully great tv on top of it. >> yeah. no doubt that's going to come up during the debate. something for sure to come up, kamala harris is going to try to say that the trump administration did a bad job in handling the coronavirus with

over 200,000 people dead. how is the vice president going to respond to that criticism as the leader of the coronavirus task force? >> sure. well, and because of that leadership role, of course, she has incredible commands of the actual facts regarding how the administration handled coronavirus. i believe what he will primarily focus on is the fact that the government took thing trump administration took this virus incredibly early before other people did. instituting the travel ban first against china and later against europe. both of which were extremely unpopular at the time they were attacked by biden as xenophobia. they were the right moves to makes a verified by health officials including dr. fauci. he will also talk about in detail, vice president pence will, about the program of the federal government that the largest government mandate you had manufacturing campaign since world war ii. and what i mean by that specifically is the production on a mass scale with incredible swiftness of ppe, therapeutics,

testing capability as well as overflow hospital capacity. so the federal government responded massively and skillfully to manage this virus. now, obviously there is far too much death in this country and in this world but that is not remotely the fault of vice president pence or any american for that matter. it's only the fault of the chinese communist party. jillian: two part question here how is the president doing this morning and also does his messaging change about coronavirus as we go forward in these debates and as we approach the election now that he has experienced it firsthand? >> >> well, i think in terms of messaging, first of all he is doing great and that was evidenced by his tweets if you noticed he is back to being his same old pugnaciousself fighting for the american people he showed his spirit in overcoming his virus not overcoming but recouping as strong as he had. as far as his messaging a new thawntd when he speaks to essential workers out there.
