todd: a wild next two hours. a wild night as we are 18 days from the election. >> reporter: a very different look at trump townhall in miami versus biden's in philly. they were supposed to be on the same stage in a debate but trump backed out after it was announced the debate would virtual. trump was grilled and interrupted the first 20 minutes while biden got softball questions, the townhall moderated by nbc's guthrie, the president was trashed on the pandemic, q and on and white supremacy, here's the exchange. >> i denounced white supremacy. i denounced white supremacy for years. you always start with a question. you didn't ask joe biden if he denounced antifa. asking questions like biden was a child.

the author of the liberal invasion kristin tate, and robert pattillo. >> i want to bounce off of something, the conversation about court packing. joe biden denied answering this, you are going to hear my answer before election day. the problem in my mind, millions of people have already voted. don't they deserve to know that? >> republicans packing the courts, mitch mcconnell, hundreds of federal judges, merrick garland was held up by the republican senate and mitch mcconnell and even lindsey graham said you can hold my words against me in 2020 if we try to fill a seat.
1:06 am
republicans have been packing the courts against the will of the american people. the discussion on this, whether or not we referred to constitutional norms and towards a solution to the crisis in our judiciary. todd: i have to correct you. i get fired up about one thing. sports, filling a vacancy is not poor -- court packing good. >> when mitch mcconnell refuses to allow hundreds of judges to even come up for a vote during barack obama and -- todd: that is playing politics. >> that is court packing, changing the nomenclature around it. when you steal judges from a democratically elected president, you are court packing
1:07 am
plain and simple. you can change the words around it but the same result, donald trump having more pics than he would enter any other administration. rob: we are debating each other. >> they are voting. that is the bottom line. let's talk about the economy, your take aways about tax cuts. what did you think? >> we are in the middle of the pandemic and the resulting economic bump and joe biden is open that he wants to raise taxes on working americans by $4 trillion, opposing the zone into economic lockdown to kill jobs and small business owners, democrats just don't get it. they think the answer to every problem is higher taxes and bigger government. the american people know how to spend their hard-earned money better than the federal government does.
1:08 am
people want to live out their american dream, they want to have tried and provide for their family, the biggest threat to all of that is bigger government and that is what joe biden is clear about wanting to put in place. todd: do you think biden made the case, even though he's going to raise taxes on, the numbers say almost everybody if not everybody, did he make the case that there was valid enough reason to vote for him and not vote for trump. >> one of the powerful points, joe biden wants to raise taxes on people like donald trump, $750, not 750,000, jeff bezos, $0 in taxes. on musk, $0 with socialization of the american people, millionaire and billionaire class, it is antithetical to the
1:09 am
entirety of the government. billionaires and millionaires should be paying their fair share so we could have things like childcare, roads and bridges and infrastructure and this idea that requiring millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share is not what the american people voted for. todd: got to jump in because we are running out of time and i know kristen wants to respond to this. >> every single analysis has shown joe biden's plan would raise taxes on all-americans, middle-class americans, you cannot pay for trillion dollar boondoggles like the green new deal, universal healthcare, free college without freezing taxes drastically on everybody. during the pandemic when people are struggling to make ends meet and we have high unemployment rate if you want to spur economic growth way to do it is not by taking more money out of
1:10 am
people's pocket and joe biden and kamala harris are being opened that that is what they are going to do. the tax hike will be more than the $4 trillion they are openly saying they are going to impose. it is disingenuous for robert or any of these other democrats, the millionaire and billionaire class taking the burden of these trillion dollar programs. >> all four of us are fired up. thank you for joining us. >> during biden's townhall, the overseas business dealings. jillian: fox news obtaining business deals showing the former vice president's son got millions from the chinese firm. griff jenkins live in washington. >> after two days on the front

page of the new york post, i guess not last night. they obtain several of these emails. some are between hunter and the top executive and burisma detailing an alleged meeting with his father and at the time, these new ones raising questions about hunter's dealings with china, remuneration packages would include payment for 6 people with a business deal that would include one for the big guy and another deal, $10 million that would, quote, be interesting for me and my family, donald trump hammered the news on the campaign trail in north carolina. >> joe biden blatantly lying about his involvement in his son's corrupt business dealings. joe biden is a corrupt
1:12 am
politician and he has been corrupt for many years and everybody in washington knew it. >> hunter biden's attorney took a shot at rudy giuliani, saying, quote, we had no idea where this came from and cannot credit anything rudy giuliani provided the new york post but what i know for certain is this reported meeting never happened. joe biden who was not asked about this, we have 19 days left, everything but the kitchen sink at me. here's where the story is headed. senate homeland security committee led by ron johnson is investigating the validity of these emails, house republicans sent a letter to fbi director christopher ray, wondering why the american people were not made aware of this. there are no questions being asked from townhall, certainly

more information will be coming later today. >> twitter revises hacked materials following backlash over the hunter biden story, claiming it will no longer remove hacked content unless it is directly shared by hackers. todd: it will label questionable cheats -- treats -- tweets instead of locking them. 13 after the hour. senate republicans want to subpoena twitter's ceo, alex hoyer reacts to the email controversy next. >> the judge for amy coney barrett, the testimony from a blind student. >> judge barrett leaned forward and looked at me intently, laura, she said, this is no longer your problem, it is my problem.

>> made it deal with a wealthy chinese business magnet for $10 million a year for introductions only. if biden is elected the united states will be owned by china. >> reporter: donald trump sounding the alarm after new alleged hunter biden emails reveal business in china one day after the new york post claimed he introduced his then vp to a ukrainian this executive. todd: will joe biden's credibility suffer in the entire days of the election. yesterday we focused on the show a lot on the ukraine situation. let's focus on china. here's part of the alleged email in question from hunter biden to the chinese energy firm dated august 2nd, 2017. it states my understanding is the original agreement was for consulting fees based on
1:18 am
introductions alone, a rate of $10 million per year. the chairman changed the deal after we met in miami, much more long-lasting and lucrative arrangement. what is your main take away from that? >> legally if the emails are authentic, it could prevent some pay to play presidential corruption issues. from a political standpoint we heard joe biden say he never discussed business with his son hunter. obviously if the email is authentic that shows that is not true so he could lose some could ability with voters. >> reporter: of authentic what are the repercussions here? >> the feds will have to see where these emails came from. that the issue twitter tried to argue if these are real.
1:19 am
if they are they couldn't have potential corruption charges, federal bribery we could look at. also there is legit national security concerns. a lot of issues raised by democrats the trump campaign had colluded with russia the president put national security at stake, the same argument can be made here with joe biden. >> it is mind-boggling that this year the scotus confirmation hearing is the third-highest story in a rundown but that is where we are in 2020, yesterday witnesses testifying making a case for and against the nomination of judge amy coney barrett. take a listen. >> access to abortion should not depend on our gpa, the color a skin, it should not depend who you're governor is or who is sitting on the supreme court. should you confirm amy barrett the country will receive something far greater than an
1:20 am
unparalleled legal mind. it will gain the service of one of the kindest individuals i have ever known. >> reporter: what was your reaction to what you heard? >> the witnesses the republicans brought in to defend amy coney barrett did very well, they spoke personally having known her. with democratic witnesses you definitely have speculation about how she could potentially rule. there was a character witness on her behalf, a retired judges that i've seen her separate personal beliefs from her ruling so it was the question about whether roe v wade should be overturned. what you saw continuously, they don't have a way to stop this confirmation, republicans have the majority, change the rules. the could bolster healthcare and argue republicans are taking that. they think three weeks out it could help.
1:21 am
jillian: thank you very much. leland: todd: a trump townhall moment has social media going wild. jillian: carley shimkus with the story next. >> they say you have a great smile. so handsome when you smile. look here, it's your very own all-in-one

>> why did you send - >> a read we, an opinion of somebody that was a retweet. i put it out there, people can decide. >> like someone's crazy uncle -- >> anna guthrie present donald trump on spreading conspiracy
1:25 am
theories on twitter. >> carley shimkus with serious xm 115 with more on this interesting townhall. carley: on a retweet from savannah guthrie was questioning donald trump, why he would retweet a conspiracy theory that claimed usama bin laden is still alive and joe biden and president obama had members of seal team 6 kills to cover it up. the president says he uses twitter to avoid the mainstream media spin and throws things out there, the majority opinion polls show the majority of americans don't totally approve of the president's behavior on twitter at times, the debate was hostile in the beginning with savanna guthrie and donald from going head to head on a number of issues. here's mike huckabee on that front. >> what happened tonight was shameful and it was a reminder
1:26 am
she was not a moderator, she was a participator. if she wants to debate donald trump let her get her name on the ballot. that's what i'm sick of, the winner has been picked before it starts. >> reporter: the debate started pretty contentious, the president appeared more at ease and more relaxed in the townhall portion where he was speaking directly to voters probably because there were moments like this from undecided voter policy day. watch. >> good evening, mister president. you have a great smile. >> got you. he does. you are handsome when you smile. >> reporter: blushing over here. you rarely see the president caught off guard but i don't think he was expecting that. of funny moment. >> reporter: donald from joe biden making a case that townhall's. todd: ron meyer and democratic strategists join us next.

>> the president was informed how dangerous this virus was. americans don't panic, he panicked. >> 2,200,000. >> you are asked point blank to denounce white supremacy and two days later -- >> i've denounced white supremacy for years. you didn't ask joe biden if he did not antifa. >> they say automatically by 2030 we will be carbon free, not possible. >> are you for against? >> my deal is a crucial framework but not the new green deal. neil: the two townhall's, joe biden in philadelphia, donald trump in miami for simultaneous primetime events and we have expert analysis starting with the president's performance. ron meyer joins us now, some of this. >> the president came off better
1:31 am
in the townhall than in the first debate. he was at ease, more fluid with his answers, cleared up some misunderstandings or errors from the first debate when it comes to white supremacy and other positions that were not communicated well in the first debate. if you're a swing voter and watched the townhall you came out with a better view the president than when you started. my question is how many people were watching it? no soundbites have arisen from it. it was a better performance leading into the last debate. the most interesting thing was the moderator or the questioner really get into it with trump quite a bit and i would not criticize her like some half but it made for a lively discussion. he focused more on his personal sort of issues rather than policy issues, if you look at
1:32 am
what joe biden faced he had softball pretty much the entire debate, without a lot of back and forth from george stephanopoulos. todd: i have a soundbite for you, one of the key exchanges on obamacare. >> your administration is looking to throw out the rest of obamacare which includes protection for preexisting conditions. >> to replace it with a much better healthcare at a much lower price. >> those preexisting conditions - >> i agree with a lot of points you made how this might was more effective for the president and the president looked a lot better and came off better but on this point, healthcare which is been in the news all week did the president get his point across to the american people so those undecided will say i feel okay to vote for him? >> he answered the preexisting condition question fairly well, didn't lay out his plan that will.
1:33 am
he presented in generalities, better healthcare at lower cost, everybody wants that but what are you going to do to make that happen. he does have a plan, pretty widely distributed but he doesn't do a very good job articulating specific ways to make healthcare better or lower cost and he didn't have a great rollout with a healthcare plan. he needs to focus more on that but when it comes to his overall record of success in his first term he did not do a good job laying out specific accomplishments he had from the trade deals to the peace deal to the specific things in the economy that were so much better. it is a good job with generalities but he needs to nail down specifics as to what is happening and why the economy improved and what he can do in the next four years. >> ron meyer, thank you. for more on the biden townhall.
1:34 am
shannon: democratic strategists on joe biden's townhall you heard about this different line of questioning and you heard ron say joe biden was given a lot of softball. what is your opinion of the joe biden townhall? >> joe biden was presidential. he had command of the facts, the issues facing americans, talked about his record and how they see the world, they respond to joe biden, he 16 points ahead in the polls, it is time for change and donald trump is about to walk into the american board room and is going to be fired. jillian: we will see, time will tell but people have questions they want answered from joe biden. listen to this on the green new deal. >> my deal is a crucial framework but not the new green
1:35 am
deal, the new green deal calls for elimination of all nonrenewable energy by 2030. we need to transition. >> the green deal is a crucial framework for meeting the challenges we face. a little inconsistency as far as his stance. >> reporter: he talks about the new green deal, a framework most people, some of the benchmarks should be more doable in a short time. the fires in the west, the hurricanes in the east, americans know something needs to be done about climate change, and they are clear. there is consensus around the nation we need to step forward in a way we recognize we need fossil fuels in the short run but need to go in a different direction. >> when he said last night is a
1:36 am
crucial framework, talk specifically about you believe in the green new deal, that is an inconsistent message if you ask me. one of the other things people want an answer to, and yet again, when asked about this, he does say people will here before election day but the problem is people, already voted, when will people get the answer they deserve? >> trying to put a supreme court nominee running through the process of the united states senate, has not voted on a issue to provide relief for americans, trying to push through confirmation, people are actually voting. shouldn't people vote, select the president and then that president elect the supreme court justice?
1:37 am
a lot of stuff was put forward by mitch mcconnell, donald trump himself said that and now we are going to do that again. jillian: there is a vacancy. >> an awful precedent to set, mitch mcconnell and the president should be ashamed of themselves. >> when there is a vacancy to fill it is up to the administrative to do so. >> that wasn't the case with merrick garland when president obama appointed him and tried to bring that to the united states supreme court. almost a year before the election. jillian: situations are different depending who is in the senate. i know everyone tries to make that argument but it is running dry at this point. thank you for joining us and sharing your opinion, appreciate it. todd: joe biden testing negative for coronavirus, who was later diagnosed with covid-19. the unidentified person works for the company the charters
1:38 am
biden's plan, the diagnosis was discovered through contact tracing, kamala harris's team, the measure was put in place after harris's communications director and nonstaff like remember tested positive for the virus, suspended in person events until monday to quarantine of caution. jillian: a man arrested for setting a patrol car on fire with an officer inside. police responded to a call a man waving us claiming piece of wood in seattle, the suspect launched it inside an officer's cruiser torching the vehicle yesterday afternoon. the injured officer is being treated for burns. is expected to survive. 38 after the hour, no mention of hunter biden's emails that an abc townhall. >> robert mueller laid out possible obstruction of justice by donald trump. what would you do with that evidence? >> make the judgments. shannon: joe biden asked about potential prosecution of donald trump. todd: that is chilling, he's coming up.
1:39 am

1:42 am
>> good morning and welcome back, donald trump and joe biden facing off on how to handle coronavirus. we are asking our panel, let's go to these ladies here. i will start with you. what message hit home with you last night? who is equipped to handle the coronavirus? >> i heard nothing different from joe biden as far as operational protocol. i think he mentions wear a mask, socially distant. what he has been doing. >> everything we have been doing with donald trump seems to be working, we wear masks, we socially distance ourselves, we tried to keep life moving
1:43 am
forward as fast as possible but i did not hear anything. there is nothing new the joe offered to help us to better than we are doing now. >> she was channel surfing between the two. we heard a voice while you were talking. let's go back to this. so many people say the dueling townhall format didn't work because you couldn't hear everyone's answers to every topic if you wanted to on coronavirus. did you hear a message from both and was resonated with you? >> i play the game too and it is ridiculous this is something we as a country had to do. this is one of the biggest decisions we have to make in just a matter of days and for us not to get direct answers from either candidate concerns me. i'm a mom with two small children, i have older parents
1:44 am
and i have a family member who passed because of coronavirus. this is very very serious. i would love to know that there are serious contingency plans in place, that it is not considered a preexisting condition for folks later on, i want to make sure everyone, i hope everyone has safe access to healthcare that our president is, and everyone else hire up in government or business. jillian: sorry for your loss. let's take a listen to both messages from last night. >> we missed enormous opportunities, he kept saying things that aren't true. it depends on the nature of the vaccine. the body of scientists say this is ready to be done, yes, i would take it. >> the travel ban, joe biden and others said this is ridiculous. anthony fauci said i save thousands and thousands of lives, billions of dollars to the hospitals.
1:45 am
jillian: what did you think of the messages? >> we have heard more of the same but one thing to me is very important as a mom, as a business owner, what is going to happen to our economy? that is a key differentiator we hear from donald trump out and clear he wants to bring us back to growth and reopen and keep taxes low and regulations low, that to me is unclear with joe biden and what the economic plan looks like which at the end of the day is leading the voters these days. jillian: looking at the notes you sent in you said something interesting, the president wants to open the country backup which we should but without a plan in place, are you hearing a plan from either not just about what they are going to do with the pandemic and how they will
1:46 am
handle vaccines and treatments going forward, are you hearing enough about the plan to reopen to get kids back to school to make sure safety is appropriately handled? >> we are hearing from the president and there are safe ways to allow children to go back to school and learn, that is where they should be and we should offer businesses an opportunity to demonstrate they can open their doors and take care of customers. i think it is possible. i see is living with this virus for the next 6, possibly 12 longer months. we have to be able to move on with our life. we see the president, first family got this virus. it is bad. i don't want to get it. but they survived. it is not an automatic death sentence. i had people in my extended family get it, older and some younger and it is not fun but they survived and that is the message we need to keep our economy moving, we need to keep our lives moving forward. jillian: what do you make of
1:47 am
that? >> we can't stop the world obviously but we do need to have steps in place, precautions in place to keep everybody as safe as possible. people who are older or more susceptible. i want my kids to socialize, i want to have people, i used to travel for living, i want to get back on the plane and not have to worry about anything. i just want to make sure that whoever gets elected is taking the bull by the horns and saying this is what we need to do is a country, not take people's rights away because that is very critical but we need to figure out a way to get people to have a protocol we can all safely follow so we can move on with our lives. >> reporter: final word before we run out of time. do you think there is one thing in particular either candidate could bring home as far as messaging goes in the next few weeks before election day that
1:48 am
perhaps would swing undecided voters? >> people continue to wonder how we get back to the so-called new normal? anything with clarity no more of the same or talking points for db but this is what i will do for your family, for your kids to get back to school, small businesses, to not go bankrupt like new york. focusing on it is key, we will make decisions ultimately based on kitchen table issues. jillian: thank you for joining us, appreciate you being here, have a good day and we will be right back. they don't have time to go to the post office they have businesses to grow customers to care for lives to get home to they use stamps.com print discounted postage for any letter any package any time right from your computer all the amazing services of the post office only cheaper

>> test all the time. there are 2,200,000 -- >> if you literally -- the 2 million figure, if you did absolutely nothing. >> i wouldn't be able to get the word out. todd: a stark contrast between donald trump and joe biden's dueling townhall's, critics dubbing trump's db with savannah guthrie. media moderator joe, did we get a second debate after all? >> we did and savannah guthrie when she takes office in january will be a great female president. that is not the role of a townhall moderator. that person is supposed to be more of a traffic cop in terms of taking questions from the people, from the audience and keeping things on time, maybe throwing in a follow-up question
1:53 am
to clarify things. instead this was savannah guthrie versus donald trump lincoln douglas style because savannah guthrie was under enormous pressure internally from in dc. what did we have? everyone from rachel maddow, the top-rated primetime host a cast of this is us demanding the townhall not even happen because it was taking away from joe biden so nbc figured we better make sure our debate moderator turn this into a nightmare for donald trump but i thought the president handled himself well. what bothered me was so many questions not about things that matter to people that will a vote like the economy, immigration, law and order. instead you heard questions to grab headlines for savannah guthrie and nbc and nothing to do with the issues that matter most. julie: people are talking about but didn't seem to matter to our friends at abc, stephanopoulos
1:54 am
george asking joe biden how his doj would handle trump's russia probe but not asking about hunter biden's emails. >> robert mueller laid out a lot of evidence, possible obstruction of justice by donald trump. what would a biden justice department do with that evidence? >> with the biden justice department would do is let the department of justice be the department of justice, the then make the judgments of who should be prosecuted. todd: you were on twitter and other forms of social media. you saw the left of the mainstream media often one and the same, don't think this is a story. they are adamant that this is not a story. how concerning is it the mainstream media doesn't think this is a story? >> mainstream media and social media which is part of the mainstream media, half of american adults get their news from facebook, 47%. many get their news from twitter not by reading stories that
1:55 am
scrolling through headlines and both those platforms wouldn't allow for the hunter biden new york post story to be retweeted. kayleigh mcenany had her account blocked. the trump campaign had their accounts blocked for sharing that story. george orwell watched this stuff and says that is extreme even for what i thought 1984 would look like. as far as george stephanopoulos who worked for the clinton presidency in his campaign didn't expect relevant questions either to my point in terms, if donald trump is s four times to denounce white supremacy which he has done in the past then you have to ask joe biden do you denounce antifa? do you denounce black lives matter in terms of the violence in these cities? instead again this is why no one trusts the system and people see steve scully in terms of admitting he lied about being act, supposed to be the second debate moderator. they don't trust townhall's, the
1:56 am
debate, anything at this point in terms of media and that is a shame because that is supposed to be the watchdog, the fourth estate that speaks to power instead of providing coverage or cover to people like joe biden and attacking donald trump. todd: you anticipated my third question and answered my third question without my having to ask the third question, we got to run, nice job, appreciate your time. >> i got to run as well literally, it is shopping day, friday. todd: and hot yoga day. jillian: with a silent j? todd: you should know that. jillian: coming up on "fox and friends first," dan bondgino joins us on hunter biden's emails, all live, we are coming right back.
