to get a flu shot to make sure that stays true. but there was a very mild flu season in australia in the southern hemisphere this year, very mild. and we always follow them by about six months. it may have been mild because they were being very cautious about covid and covid spreads much more easily than the flu. so of if you're distancing and you're masking in appropriate areas and you're not having large gatherings already you're going to slow the spread of the flu. that may be one of the reasons. so far, it's too early to tell here in the united states for flu but we've seen very few cases. we need to keep it that way. jillian: yeah. someone had said to me in conversation, one of my friends, saying i haven't even gotten a cold this year and she was like because probably we're wearing masks and we're doing all these things. so it's going to definitely be interesting to follow that. let's take a look at some of the states, nine states reporting the highest covid-19 daily increases since friday, you can see them on your screen, including ohio, tennessee, north carolina, alabama to name a few of them. dr. siegel, everyone talked about -- you've talked about it with us, this potential second

wave in the fall. do you think we are equipped with the information we have at hand, as opposed to six months ago, are we equipped now to handle this? >> first of all, i'm very concerned that this is happening. as you said, over 80,000 new cases the other day, yesterday. reason is, partly, that the weather's changing and as the weather changes and gets colder, people are indoors more and they huddle together more. so there's more need for precautions and the second reason is that actually the virus itself may be becoming more transmissible, we're finding that. and we don't know if all the precautions are being taken that should be. having said that, we have a lot of information now, jillian, that we didn't used to have. we actually can test the virus for how transmissible it is and how likely you are to get a severe case. that's information that we didn't even have available to us a few weeks ago. that helps a lot. and we have a lot of early treatments that we offer now, we diagnose it earlier, when a patient is hospitalized we know more what to do, we're using
