jackie is live. >> good evening shenon. vice president-elect kamala harris focused on the historic significance of this night not just for one and that people of color. harris has made a big part of her candidacy over the last year about the american dream realizing the american dream for all americans regardless of their gender regardless of their race especially after year that was marked by protests on injustice and the reckoning on race that defines this campaign. often in her speech speeches harris would say when we vote things change and you can tell she was moved by this moment and her supporters were made by this moment that she said she's thinking about her mother and indian immigrants who came to the u.s. at 19 years old and generations of women especially blacklist and native american women who came before her paving the way for this moment and for all americans to vote no matter what their race or gender. she says she's thinking about them tonight and what this means for all who come after her as

well including the possibility that now appear more within reach. >> because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities. senator harris is not just the first woman to be elected vice president and the first black person in the first woman of south asian descent in the first to graduate of hbcu school and a member of a black sorority to be entering the office. she was the first black and asian attorney general for the state in california and only the second black person for salvation to serve in the u.s. senate. she has broken another barrier tonight and the power for position does not escape those who elected her including black people in large part propelled harris and biden to this moment to the ticket and joe biden delivered those voters a seat at the table after for a long time

the president framing the argument to challenge the current vote count saying observers were not allowed in the counting room. i got 71,000. millions of mail-in ballots were sent to people and who never asked for them. the trump campaign is filing a lawsuit in arizona because he believes a number of people had their votes disenfranchised because they were not allowed to correct ballots on which there was a so-called over vote for use vote for different people for the same ticket rather than being allowed to correct the ballot. they were simply told to put their ballot through which means the vote was not counted in the nevada the trump campaign has an affidavit from an election worker whose job it was to open the mail-in and absentee ballots and this person says he thought there should have been some signature verification on a bunch of ballots and he was told just that those through also told mismatches and addresses

were not properly identified and since that person has come forward and has been made public there are other people apparently who are coming forward as well put this person swore in an affidavit to the department of justice. the attorney said the affidavit makes it clear we are not dealing with oversight sloppiness. this was intentional criminal conduct or the campaign will be filing lawsuits in pennsylvania on monday alleging hundreds of thousands of ballots granted without being properly checked through the new suit is going to be filed in nevada were that there were potential voting irregularities in the state. >> but we have to make sure happens with these results is that they can be universally accepted by the partisan on both sides and because this race is so close and because we have uncovered so many irregularities in places like clark county it's important we count every legal ballot and make sure we take every legal step to make sure

you legal ballots are not an account to the president's campaign believe they ought to the 71 people who voted for the president to take as much time as necessary to make sure every legal ballot was cast and every illegal ballot was part directed. not surprisingly democrats believe the president should concede. here's a senate minority leader. >> i think donald trump, you lost. no more games. go home. go home to florida. stop delaying, stop making up lies about the election. it was fair, there've been no irregularities found preview lost. you lost fair and square. >> there may come a point when the president does concede and i'm told by several sources close to the president that if he pursues all of these legal avenues and find that there was no path to a second term he will graciously concede to joe biden

in philadelphia but you are right the ballots are still being counted behind me at the philadelphia convention center. it's the mail-in ballots that the trump campaign in the legal team are keeping their eyes on her closely. let's give an update on where we stand as of right now. 60,000 remaining ballots and pennsylvania to be counted 14,000 in the city of philadelphia and the military overseas ballots that aren't due until tuesday plus another 12,000 mail-in ballots require review by the board of elections where they can be counted. the trump campaign and his legal team are electing widespread fraud although they haven't resented any solid evidence of that. here's a look at all the legal battles they are waging here in pennsylvania chief among them the extended mail-in ballot deadline. let's go -- all those ballots that arrived late after election

day. the other big one is the whole observer republicans saying the ballot observers inside the convention hall were not allowed post enough to be able to see the name and the postmarks on those ballots so they could verify them. they are upset about that. heather cronin is one of those vote counters inside the convention hall and she told mike colleague eric shawn there a lot of security measures and police inside the building and she doesn't believe it's possible for cheating to occur in that room. listen. >> not that i saw absolutely not. i want to stress every single person that i met in that room was there because i wanted to serve democracy but every single person wanted the votes counted. there was no partisan discussion it was about counting the votes. >> none of the legal battles mattered at all to the thousands of people gathered across downtown philadelphia today. there was dancing in the streets

shouting, we did it and you were fired. shannon it felt like they were proud of themselves and they felt like it was philadelphia that handed the victory over to now president-elect biden. shannon. >> thank you very much live in philly tonight. president trump said this election is far from over. his campaign filing lawsuits in battleground states including pennsylvania georgia michigan nevada and arizona over allegations of fraud and ballot counting in and voting and other other irregularities through georgia secretary of state announcing friday there will be a recount because of the razor thin margin. the trump team will be in pennsylvania thursday when an appellate court let observer stands 6 feet away but they requested -- that request was denied by a federal judge. joining me now to active director of the national security institute.

it's good to see you again tonight. >> we continue to hear the president's critics are mick and all kinds of allegations but i'm beginning to see a sworn affidavit people are doing under oath alleging things that they have seen that those will have to play out that we still have the issue sitting before the u.s. supreme court about the ballots that were supposed to be segregated in pennsylvania and order under justice alito. he said the court will take a look at it and you think they will get directly involved? >> it's hard to know. we have seen them get will be involved in the 2000 election and bush v. gore. i was a seriously thin margin. 1800 votes separating al gore and george bush and the florida supreme court that the u.s. supreme court acted. this is a different scenario but this goes to the functioning of state land we see the justices be fairly skeptical of messing

with date law when it comes to these questions. >> and the thing is we have seen that conservative justices because they have had so many cases come up with north carolina and pennsylvania. they have asked for emergency injunctions but they say listen the constitution leaves this voting measures to state legislators that a number of these challenges and the supreme court change the state law so that's not the state legislature asking we have allegations of the same thing happening in alabama and north carolina and other places buried their justices acknowledging there could be some issues here that are in violation of the constitution itself. >> that's exactly right and they referred to state legislatures. you're exactly right right to highlight that i'm remember again is a constitutional violation of the justices will get involved as they did in bush v. gore.

>> bush v. gore played out and there were several federal and state cards going on in florida. the trump campaign have a number of states and i'm told they will file a couple of things in pennsylvania and georgia monday or tuesday of next week. people may forget it was painful for everybody who live here than was covering it are fighting these legal battles back then but bush v. gore went on for 37 days before al gore conceded. you see a scenario in which we are in the same track this time around with these different court cases pending? >> there's a lot obviously going on. the problem with some of these cases for example they ask us to observers watch the vote, that is over and done with but the county i think those will fall away and we will come down to one or two in places like pennsylvania where there really is alive and in enough electoral votes to matter. this point the president at a

minimum it will be hard to make those up. made you that we no sooner rather than later because it will be hard to catch up given how will play out. that may play a role with wisconsin and georgia. said they do take time and the president says is no longer just about him. the american people deserve to have confidence in the voting that something all of us regardless your ideology or party we all agree that should be the case for the greatest country in the world and we should be elicited this right with the confidence of our citizens and voters. so voters. size good to see you, thank you. >> thanks shannon. >> georgia's still quite a nailbiter there. biden holding a razor thin lead over trump in a state that democrats haven't won since the clinton and don't forget those two senate races are headed to a runoff. they could potentially tip the balance of power in the u.s. senate. more on that, next.

we have one with the most votes ever cast in a presidential ticket and the history of the nation. 74 million. >> joe biden addressing the nation a short time ago reaching out directly to trump supporter is with that message and we will see howitzer see. meantime george heading for the recount as the biden lead in the key state remains razor thin and the balance of power in washington hangs on to runoff senate races out of georgia. correspondent steve harrigan is live in atlanta. what is the latest down there and george? >> shenon they have said there will be a recount but the first count isn't finished yet. 98% of that vote joe biden has a slim lead of roughly 7000 votes. as of this morning there were 8000 votes outstanding. there will be a recount because in georgia they are separated by half a percentage point and they

are so close they aren't anywhere near that so after the votes are certified by the state there will be a recount. there was celebration from a news of what happened but for a lot of trump supporter's there was anger many of them saying this election is far from over. >> my reaction is they think it's still premature grid sounds like there'll be multiple states with recounts and an awful lot of litigation so i'm hopeful everybody stays calm until that transpires. >> keep in mind there are two senate races that still have to be decided. both will go to runoff elections on january 5 no one able to give 50% of those two races could determine who controls the u.s. senate. shannon back to you. >> steve harrigan and atlanta life thank you steve. kamala harris making history not only is the first woman to be elected by -- vice president at the first woman of color to hold that office.

democrats. they have been called racist and all kinds of things. what's the message of reunification and kennedy don? >> the rhetoric has been heated on both sides but now it's time for healing preview of her joe biden sail along that he wants to bring this country back together and that's the message he delivered tonight. you didn't hear a single bad word about the president, no criticism about the other side accepting the democrats. let's put that behind us and recognize each other in move forward. i believe he's sincere and that and people i believe will listen to that and take it to heart. >> we are still waiting to find out what's going to happen on capitol hill are the two georgia senate races mean the balance of the power in the u.s. senate remains undecided at this point. the house republicans performed better than expected and defied expectations flipped a number of seats. the margins are tighter there and a lot of speculation about speaker of the house nancy

pelosi and how she's going to manage the docket with progressive members who are agitating for different wishlist for different wishlist and main street modern democrats or printout as she managed that with a tighter margin for republicans? >> in the democratic party we have always had people with different persuasions and i don't think that's going to change. never underestimate nancy pelosi. she knows how to count the votes and how to bring people together like the covid recovery package and remember we were in a number of states that donald trump had 14 years ago that we took back in 2018 and we kept most of those. we lost a few but they kept most of them so it's still going to be a strong majority in she will have a president and administration to work with. >> where are we on covid relief? there have been a number tells put out by democrats and republicans and the senate in

the house of considered different things for them in plenty of votes against moving forward on something or at least getting to the table on how much to spend some economists say there's unspent money in previous packages that could be doled out. what should come next? there a small business is hanging out by a thread many of them reaching out to say we need something. >> you are absolutely right. i voted twice for the heroes act and i'd like to see that pass. i have the highest unemployment in my district in the heart of las vegas. many small family owned businesses that are ancillary so the sooner we can get recovery money to them whether it's unemployment or business loans the better. i'd like to see us do it in a lame-duck session. mcconnell says we won't do it until the first of your that maybe the election results will have impact on him and he will be more willing to negotiate.

people wearing masks. these are large gatherings and we have seen them criticizing various ways of the last few months. what doom make of what we are seeing around the white house quakes that they are gathering and i have been out up there myself. a lot of people outside after now president-elect joe biden and vice president-elect kamala harris gave their marks. before that there were probably more people out there in the crowd seemed to be thinning a bit after those remarks. it was just an air of jubilation in washington d.c. tonight. worth noting for context d.c. is a democratic city so lots of supporters for biden in the city and fewer for president trump but definitely a manifestation of that joy. as far as safety you mention you saw a lot of masks and there were a lot of mass but they were big groups and that is not recommended now by the cdc but they were outside expressing

their happiness. >> i should have looked before i came in tonight but most of the last few elections presidential elections in d.c. go something like 93% to 7% as you mentioned. this is very much a democratic stronghold. these are live pictures outside the white house and i heard heard from a number of people downtown today who saw trump supporter's out rallying around the washington monument in other places as well to see them showing up at state capitols and planning rallies. on monday. doesn't sound like those supporters are crowds are ready to go away quite yet either. >> at think of spot on and the campaign manager for president trump has encouraged those demonstrators to come out but i think we'll be seeing that in the coming days for sure and that will offset some of the optimistic showings of pleasure from the joe biden supporters. >> well at elections in vocal

ballots are to be counted that are received after tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. and yet there's a large number of ballots that were seen at 3:00 p.m. on tuesday in fact the supreme court last night issued another edict to the secretary of state to make sure to keep those separate. they are serious about that. we haven't seen a number of states arizona as an example in georgia will have a recount or check schumer doesn't want their votes to be counted and by the way white heaven north carolina alaska band called for donald trump as well as the senate races? kind of curious there when they are both strong trump states that aren't even included in these totals. as a lot of the game was to be played here but look at al gore and george bush. it wasn't decided until the second week of december at here we are in early november so they could go and spiked the football in new york. in those swing states there is a

lot of issues that are raised by the trump campaign that have to be resolved. >> also from chuck schumer today the senator said essentially there are two george runoff races held by incumbents. they want to hold onto control the senate which should be the one thing that would divide the house and the white house working in different ways and for different goals. senator schumer said today we are going to go when george and change the country. how concerned are u.s. the republican leader about those two senate races in georgia at? >> when chuck schumer says he wants to change this country everybody in the state of georgia had better pay attention to what that means. when new york liberal says they want to change america and they are counting on georgia to help them do it i don't think the georgia values and chuck schumer's new york values are the same and that will be on full display in a thing to talk about court-packing adding d.c. is a state importer recut the

green new deal. all of those things they have talked about or shied away from those are all going to be very front and center in the campaign in georgia for those two senate races that will happen in early january. >> i feel there's going to be a lot of money pouring in for both sides because everything is at stake in the senate with those two races. do you anticipate the president would go down there and hold rallies or be there to advocate on behalf of senator elect perdue? >> i wouldn't be surprised if president trump went down there. he has tremendous energy and support but when you see him go to the rallies in the last few weeks the energy on the ground and i went to a lot of those swing states, it was up the to charge for president trump a people were excited to see him and you are going to need to have high turnout for those races. there'll be unlimited money but there are diminishing returns. we saw michael bloomberg $130 million tried to flip the

texas and florida legislature to democrats and increase their public and margin in both of those states. you've got to have enough money to get your message out but at some point hundreds of millions of dollars going into georgia people will start tuning it out and they will talk to their friends and neighbors were than listening to chuck schumer. >> you mentioned a couple of things. good news for the gop. i see farmer congressman darryl isaias headed back and having been declared the winner in and has raised a number of state legislatures were held increased her flip to republicans. you have new >> to work with in the coming years. we'll see you back there in washington. >> we are excited about darryl and those other republicans, great republicans class of freshmen very diverse group for 2021. >> we certainly defy the expectations there. thank you sir. >> tank shannon. appreciate it.
