closer to an eventual vaccine, pfizer has applied for emergency approval from the fda if it does get the green light, health officials say doses could be shipped out within 24 hours with essential workers first in line to receive the vaccine. the u.s. reported within 177,000 new covid infections from john hopkins university. more than 12.1 million americans have so far been infected with the virus and sadly the death toll continues to climb upwards, 256,000 of the fellow americans have died, estimates say the number could double in about three months. life team fox news coverage, live at los angeles international airport and holiday travel. let's begin charles watson in atlanta at the headquarters for the cdc. reporter: good evening, an average of 200,000 new infections a day as the u.s.

at airports across the country. with larger crowds in the terminals, major airlines like united are seeing an increase in cancellations. christina coleman is live at lax, los angeles international airport with more. reporter: there have been so many people on the fence on whether they should travel or not, this thanksgiving. there has been a lot of cancellations pre-however, on friday at least 1 million people pastor airports across the country. the last time the tsa screened at least 1 million passengers in one day before this weekend was on october 18. the cdc strongly recommends that people who are not traveling or if they do travel to try to be careful, they're telling people not to travel at all. that's at the cdc is recommending. they want to make sure people lessen their chance of getting or spreading covid, chicago's busy o'hare airport saul busy

last year end considering how fast this is spreading public health officials say being careful this holiday is key. >> if you are going to travel to someone else's home for thanksgiving, if possible you should spend as much time outdoors when you are together in some places that may be possible with the weather, we should keep meals short and spend more time with masks on and the smaller the gatherings, the better. in general i recommend against it. reporter: aaa adds that 95% of the people traveling this thanksgiving will do so by car, if you are hitting the road, keep in mind that health experts recommend that you keep your stops to a minimum. arthel: good point christina coleman. thank you. eric: of fox news alerts, good news the incoming white house chief of staff ron klain for the

senate race, republican senator kelli mockler tested negative for the coronavirus today, she did test positive on friday, yesterday was inconclusive, because of the confusion and the conflicting test we are told that the senator will continue to quarantine until she comes up with several more negative tests, one of the indications of the test when you test negative, she is one of the two republican incumbents that face runoffs in january, those runoffs will decide the u.s. senate. jonathan siri live in atlanta with her condition in the race. reporter: kelly loeffler is experiencing no symptoms and clearly this negative test result is good news for kelly loeffler's campaign, the senator will continue to self isolate until she hopefully receives

decision. arthel: pfizer plans to distribute 50 million doses of vaccine to the end of this year which is like in the next five weeks and 1.3 billion doses next year. might we be in the most vulnerable. while we wait for the vaccine to make it to market? >> we can see light at the end of the tunnel but we're certainly not at the end of the tunnel yet, we have quite a ways to go. the american public may not appreciate this, to date there have been 770 drug development programs embarked on starting to fight covid, over 191 covid vaccines are in development, 12 are in the last stage of phase three, two that we've heard about in the last couple of weeks, moderna vaccine and pfizer vaccine seem close to finishing. it will take close to several different vaccine candidates at her disposal to vaccinate at the level that will be needed.

we still have a little ways to go, we do not have an approved vaccine sitting here today but it's looking very optimistic that we will shortly have one or two vaccines ready for emergency use authorization. arthel: once pfizer or my moderna get fda approval and americans get vaccinated, does this mean life will return to normal by next summer? >> we all hope so, that is going to be incredibly dependent on whether or not the american public steps forward and agrees to be vaccinated, a vaccine can do absolutely no good if people are not willing to take it, everyone should have confidence that there have been so much thought and science put into this vaccine did development program that we will have amazing vaccine at our disposal. ask your physician how they feel about it, go forward and call,

charlie baker is a republican, is that a potential block to elizabeth warren besides other consideration. >> it has to be for this president-elect, he absolutely does not want to risk losing support in the senate, that said he no doubt want support from senator warren and she ended up being a key supporter of his after the primaries. just the fact that she is in discussion and senator sanders is in discussion for potential cabinet post makes sense. but for sure that hiccup of what might happen to her seat is one that is probably much more than a hiccup in their considerations. eric: speaking of senator sanders, it's talk about him being labor secretary, what kind of influence do you think he has, does aoc have in the press enter progressive wing on spring clean the cabinet with a leftward progressives? >> i think former vice president biden, now president-elect biden

knows he needs to have something for everyone in this cabinet, that will certainly include having something for the progressive wing whether that means putting somebody like senator sanders into the cabinet is something we will have to watch and see. he will need something like that because if not you can tell from the criticism or the lobbying going on from the outside of the party that he will face criticism and he needs to have support from his party as he tries to govern in the coming months and years particularly because what seems like a likely republican-controlled senate he won't have a whole lot of margins to maneuver. eric: we will have to see and we will get back next weekend on the names and ye who is yet to come. white house correspondent, always good to see you. always glad to have you with us on sunday. arthel: president trump's legal team hit with two major setbacks

brett, how do you see this, will president biden once he takes office, will he have to do relationship repairing out the gate, if so where should he begin and where does he proceed without being apologetic. >> absolutely, i have to say one way joe biden is markedly different from barack obama, that he invest in those relationships. obama was notoriously distant with world leaders and it was a frustration for some of us who worked on the national security council but joe biden knows these leaders, he knows these issues and he knows how to force the trust and after four years of the trump bulldozing on the world stage, i think that will be a welcome change and i think he'll get the benefit of the doubt what he can do with that, that's still an open question.

arthel: you're right having been the chair of the senate foreign relations committee twice, mr. biden is very experienced in foreign policy. what can we expect from his foreign-policy as potus. >> the first thing, we are already seeing it, the list of experts that he is bringing in, i have to say is a recovering diplomat myself, i am heartened to see a number of former career diplomats, not just political types on the list of the landing team for the state department and other security agencies, i think it's important for joe biden to focus on coalition building, we've got to repair the alliances, he's going to need them because the united states has lost an awful lot of credibility and influence, we will need to focus on repairing the international institutions and biden has said on the first day he is rejoining the world health organization, that will help a lot in the battle against covid because we don't get out of this on our own. arthel: with the eye on global
